Thank you sir. My own life is just simple. I don't want to be tooooo rich, neither do I want to be toooo poor. With the impact I have on these students I'm teaching, their parents calling me to thank me, students looking forward to seeing me the next day at school, either for flogging or advise, etc (I sabi flog wella but after clogging, I will go and pet and play with them later). All these makes me happy. Although I still get some other small jobs wey I dey pursue. Above all, we give glory to God cos to be a teacher no easy o, especially in a village setting.

I'm a teacher(econs, govt ND civic) and ss2 form teacher. Wen I was their ss1 form master, a girl was placed under my custody. This girl can write but cannot read. I started with the basics. I told her mum to get her QUEEN PRIMER books, Ralia the sugar girl, and several other interesting books. During break, I will call her to read a chapter of those books. She was reluctant at first, but later she adapted. Now she's In ss2. She can read well now, and her spoken English has improved. Wen I was with them from ss1, I banned them from speaking pidgin in the class. Anyone caught speaking vernacular has the option of paying 200 naira as fine or risk collecting 20strokes. Nobody wan collect cane. As a result of that, their spoken English improved. This is just a summary.

Now back to your niece, get all these interesting books for her to be reading. Books like EZE GOES TO SCHOOL, CHIKE AND THE RIVER, ADVENTURE OF SOUZA, amongst others. Let her be reading them to you when u re chanced.

Engage her in letter writing. Tell her to write a letter about anything that comes to your head. U read it through and correct where she misspelt or made blunders in her presence.

Above all, get her a scrabble board. I hope u urself fit play scrabble. That scrabble helps Kids a lot. I suggested to some parents (even taught some of the kids how to play it).

Lastly, get her a dictionary and an exercise book. Tell her she MUST learn at least 10 new words and their meanings and write them down. Once in a while, u check dem out and Mark.

All these are steps and methods I used on my students and I can say, 90% of them improved.
