I wish I could dash you 10,000 likes for this post. cool May you live long. I once applied for a UN agency job, with my personal e-mail address which does not contain my name at all, o! Guess what? I was called up for an interview in their Abuja office, while I was still living in Lagos. I explained the difficulties of getting to Abuja via a short e-mail to them, and they offered to reschedule the interview.

Amen. God bless you too.

See this is one of the problems with all these small Nigerian companies. They think they are gods and they treat people anyhow. I pray the OP gets a job in my organisation or one similar. They will clear your doubt anf if he continues like this, he will lose his job cos he will be reported.

Imagine the OP saying he didnt give a candidate clearance because the person did not acknowledge properly.

Such myopic behaviour.

Sir, the word there is Disabled, that can as well be included in my list. You're not permitted to discriminate on physiological framework of a person especially if it can be proven that the lack of mobility in a part of the body doesn't hinder the person from performing at the role. That applies in some country not all.
Show me a specific example limited to the scope of what we are discussing here, the email username. I maintain go anywhere in the world, you will never win a case against a bias for denial of privilege except it can be related to race, sex, colour, gender, religion and/or disability.

Instead of arguing with you, i would suggest you google anf read up on conscious and unconscious bias in recruitment, selection, interviews etc. You will find alot of examples on it/ cases where the legal system was involved. As i said earlier, i did my research dissertation on it and it is published in academia. You can learn one or two things and no i will not give you a specific link. Please do your research and educate yourself.

So denying an applicant job for breaking our standards is bias?

Ok, they should go to court, we would gladly meet them there.

Such response already sums up who you are/ the kind of organisation you work with. Its a shame that people like you are in the HR practice.

I'm sure you will agree with me that nowhere in this world will such 'bias' earn anyone at that any sanction(s). It is not a gender, race, sex, religion, colour, age issue.

This where you are wrong. The fact that it is not the case in your country does not mean it does not apply else where.

I did a masters in international HRM in uk (emphasis on international) and i can tell you for a fact that companies have been sactioned for being bias towards candidates. One of my temp lecturers who happened to be a police commissioner in uk was sanctioned just because they did not want to employ someone who was disabled. They cited security reasons as why the person could not be hired. Guess what, the candidate sued and it was ruled in her favour. I have many examples of where companies are sued for bias (both conscious and unconscious) i know this cos my dissertation was on it.

Use A Professional Email Address

I don't about other Recruiters, but for me, a stupid email address will never earn an invite from me.

What the heck are, Chizzybaby@gmail.com, Zainab4luv@yahoo.com? Seriously, these ain't email anyone seriously looking for job should be associating with.

Personally, I prefer emails with the applicants' full name or first name.

Try as much as possible not to use numbers in your email address, only when necessary.

Something like this is manageable, LekanAzeez86@gmail.com but Lekan86@gmail.com is unacceptable to me.

Officiallekan@gmail.com, IamLekan@gmail.com, LekanOfficial@gmail.com are all acceptable to me.

I am a HR officer for one of the Top 100 companies to work for in Nigeria (jobberman ranking) and i can say for a fact that alot of your excuses are just crap (excuse my language).

This email of a thing is not important and i have come across alot of funny emails and they eventually get the job. Its not a requirement.

As for acknowledgement, what else are you looking for? You want the person write an epistle to confirm attendance? Oh please. One time someone had an issue with distance and would be able to make it. Guess what, i scheduled a skype interview and another time, i told the person to visit one of our branches and i scheduled a Tele-presence (video call) interview.

Furthermore, i have on different occasions had candidates who are running late. Guess what, i call them to ask if they will be able to make it or they want to reschedule.

This is how HR is practiced and not the unnecessary bias you preach

It is people like you that give HR practioners a bad name. You need to check yourself

Kpansia is in the heart of the town, so the high rent is understandable. But if you have your way, Agudama, Akenpai, Edepie is way cheaper between 200 - 300k for room & parlour.

Security wise, yenagoa as a whole is volatile, but kpansia area is manageable. Don't know about flooding, but the topography of kpansia is better to than other flood-prone areas.

Thank you so much. You have been very helpful

Yenagoa is relatively cheap or expensive. Depends largely on your income. If you earn within 70 - 100, you should be able to fair quite well. There are new fresh apartments around Agudama, Akenfa, Akenpai, Edepie, Opolo by expressway, Azikoro. 150 - 200k should get you a clean 1-bedroom (room an parlour apartment in Agudama or Akenfa. Please avoid Ekeki, Obele junction, Ovom - these are flood-prone areas and cult-relate criminal activities are on the high side in those areas. Raw food sturvs could be expensive sometimes. Transportation is also expensive, but less traffic jams.

Social and night life is just there - hotels, few bars and car wash restaurants here and there. Most of the ladies are raz and sometimes dirty, which makes them cheap. Cleans ones hardly come by, except visitors and non-residents.

Generally, Bayelsa are very welcoming to strangers. They love easy-life.

Thanks alot. I have been informed that i will be living in kpansia. I heard the room and parlour is 500k while a self con is 300. Do you know if that is that a good area? security and flood wise

The 5D guards are very good and a worthwhile investment. I think it's advisable charging this beast with a powerbank or in car charger. The excessive and erratic power voltage supply can cause havoc.

For protection, I use the Samsung clear view original case, it works well with the proximity sensor & AOD ....

hmm will the 5D guard work well with the curved screen? also will it stay if i have a hard case on? cos i had a similar issue with my old phone. i had to use the regular guards seeing that the "glass" guard does not stay if a hard case is on.
