For me,Basic is 15th and the rest is 25th..Depends on if you want your basic to be paid on the 15th or you want all to be paid on the 25th..If the pay day falls on the a Saturday,you will get it on the 24th but if it falls on a Sunday then it will have to be the next day being Monday.

I like the fact that you are concerned about studying Engineering. Well as for me, I studied Computer/Electronics engineering and if I am to chose a course to study in my next life I will still go for Engineering. I have about 18 years of telecommunications experience as an Engineer here in Nigeria. I am currently doing my 14th year in the biggest Telecommunications operator in Nigeria.
My advice for you is to always research while studying engineering. Most of the things you they will teach you in school is theory. During your holidays go and apply for some unpaid jobs where you can work without pay. It helps a lot and gives you an edge over others. Meet some practicing engineer and tell them you want to learn from them.. They will be glad to teach you when they see how determined and smart you are. There is this young chap preparing to go for his youth service who walked up to me and asked me to teach him some stuff in telecoms. I quizzed him and realized he has been studying some telecommunications docs. Teaching him has been fun and I use real life simulation tools to teach him. Bet you me, the chap will be way above his peer by the time he starts looking for jobs. There are Engineering jobs out here. What most recruiters want her young chaps that they would not want to waste their money to train.If you have the experience already and with age on your side, the sky is your limit.

Very funny country. Mine happened in 2006 or there about. I had an invite for an interview with Zain(Now Airtel) for Customer care service in Delta state. The interview happened in Zain office at Oghara. I performed so well that the HR person confessed to me that I exceeded their expectation, considering the fact that I came from an engineering background. They promised to call for my employment letter. I still dey wait for the letter though, lol. After about two weeks i called the same HR lady that was impressed with my performance to know if the letter was ready. 'lo and behold' employment letters were sent a week after the interview and i was not sent a letter. I called a friend who worked with Zain back then and he informed me that The governor (Ibori) instructed that only Oghara citizens should be employed.

After then I carried on with my life. About two months later I got a job as an engineer in huawei technologies. Did two years with them,left for Alkatel Luccent (Now Nokia) and finally doing my 13th years with the biggest Network provider in Nigeria as an Engineer(Senior specialist)
I thank God they rejected me.

Most disappointment come with blessings if you have faith and believe in yourself.

Brother,Being depressed is not an easy thing..Was depressed some time ago after I signed a shorty of about 8million naira for a lady(family friend).She Got d money from a micro finance bank and absconded to the US.The Micro finance bank sent a letter via a police officer to head of securities in my place of work but the luck I had then was that the guy happens to be a good friend that we hang out regularly.He quickly alerted me and informed me to call the police officer that brought the letter to my office.I had to strike a deal with the micofinace bank and was paying dem 250k every pa day of the month coupled with the fact that I was running a personal bank loan which was engolfing not less tha n 300k from me..When ever pay day was coming close I would be more depressed because I might not have enough money to take care of my family needs..I was so depressed and even sold my cars,but having my wonderful family and friends helped me get by..There was even a time that my mum had to pay my rent of about 1.2m and even paid my kids school fees..I always made sure I hung out with my good friends and share my problems with them.Am done paying the debt and am back on track.Please discuss your issues with close friends and Families..A problem shared is half solved.

You are quite right. I studied Engineering back then in school and currently working for a telecom company with over 12 years experience . I do every other thing the expatriates do except for the bigger pay they get. If you find yourself in a telecommunications company here in Nigeria, you can compete with any other person all around the world because as new technology emerges you get yourself updated. Some of us are lucky to always attend trainings abroad and locally just to meet up with the trends. Curtesy of where we work. I once told a friend of mine who lectures telecoms in a University East in the Easter part of Nigeria to invite me and some of my colleagues who happen to be his course mate as well as mefor a three days workshop with his students. We intended simulating the Call flow process(What goes on when calls are made) and also use real time data and real life scenario to teach them About the GSM Architecture and its evolution. I did not hear from him after wards. I guess he approached his department and they could not afford to fly us down and accommodate us. Suffix to say that the departments should not wait on the Heads of institutions but try to think out of the box. Look for a way to Generate funds and give these students Real life trainings from time to time. It will prepare them for the future.

It actually depends on your relationship with your boss.I remember about 9 yrs ago when my present company (A multinational firm) invited me for a written test;I told my line manager of four months (That i joined the firm) and he gave me his blessings.On getting to the text venue,i met him sitting to write the same test. Fortunately for me i made it and he he did not.
He helped me all through my exit and ensured i did not sign my confirmation letter of which i was due for confirmation,else i would be forfeiting 2 months salary.We are still very close up till tomorrow.
So bro there is really nothing wrong about that.If God says the job belongs to you,no body will take it from you.

This analysis is so wrong.

My best friend has been working with MTN for almost 10 years.Contract specialists are even paid more than the permanent considering the fact

that they are employed as experienced staff.This is so because other benefits(Leave allowance,13th months salary) are factored into their

salaries.Some even prefer to remain in Contract. Also note that there is always a salary increment on yearly basis for the permanent staff.


A permanent staff that has worked for over 1 year would definitely earn more than a new specialist in the Network division.
