Hello to all the investors in house, I really want to know the best investment to involve into between stanbic mutual funds, fgn bonds and tbill, really want to make some cool money since business right now is not stable due to the economic. Lastly what I don't understand about fgn bonds, if I apply for the five years bond,it mean I will be paid instanct interest of the five years or yearly interest paid to me, or I have to choose how I can get my interest either monthly, quarterly, or yearly.?

If you read from the first page you will find this information there

Most firms would allow you access to Dollars at the interbank rates for purchase of Eurobonds. Typically $200k but some would allow you buy into a pool alongside other investors.

Illiquid if you do not have a full $200k investment because of complexities trying to pull out your share of the pool.

Good to hedge against FX movement if you have future foreign outlay planned for education etc.etc.

Most people make the blunder of hedging FX rate and do not see the fact that most banks and nigeria as a whole does not only have the problem of rate but often the problem of liquidity. You may hedge your rates with a bank say AAA bank for 360 for a period of a year but when the time comes to activate your policy they tell you they do not have liquid dollar to effect the transaction. Why do you think CBN has been enforcing banks to sell FX to the customers and walk in? Artificial scarcity.

To my own understanding, he wont get 10M he will get 9M.

Reason:
U used 9m to buy 100,000 units while another person had bought the same 100,000 units for 10m.
Now assuming both of u have 10m , u dt bought at 9m is at an advantage cos u still av 1m to use for urself but u will get back ur 9m at maturity.
Its just that both of u have 100k units which have different naira values.

If there is any other opinion contrary to this abeg tell me o, we are here to learn

He gets the the face value of the bond at maturity regardless of what he paid for it . In the instance above , the investor bought the bond at a discount hence he will still get the face value of the bond which is 10m. Which increases his yield. Take for instance On Monday i sold at T-bill of face value of 47m at a discounted price of 45m+ plus does that mean the buyer will not get 47m at maturity of the Tbill?

there cannot reinvest your interest as its less than 100k. your interest is 8783.65 after the first transaction. but if you had a larger capital, you can use the formula to calc the true yield
INTEREST
TRUE YIELD = CAPITAL – INTEREST = P

= P X 100
Initial interst = t
capital - t =T
TY = t/T * 100
ie interest divided by capital minus interst all multiplied by 100 then you use the new rate to calc your interest
example, if am investing 25m for 1yr at 12%
true yield is 300000000/22000000
=13.64%
now using simple interest with your new rate PRT
S.I. =3410000 INSTEAD OF THE 3M EARLIER. I PRAY YOU UNDERSTAND. WELCOME

Bros this your financial mathematics na die ! grin

I didn't argue about the price of the FGN BOND. My post Wash n response to the person who said bonds are "Bonds are units in 1000". That's obviously not always true.

The guy who made the first reference to the price too. He thinks the fact that some bonds trade at 1000, changes anything. That's not the case.

The snapshot below shows FGN bonds are in 1000 but the state and other bonds are in 100.

We shouldn't always be quick to argue on things we're yet to make findings on. I say again that there are several bonds with a 100 face value per unit.

Nice one, thanks for the knowledge sharing

All these bonds have unit prices of 100

Euro bonds are priced at 100 while FGN are priced 1000.

It is pivotal to state this difference because EURO BOND is governed by global laws FGN bonds too but they have this peculiarity to Nigeria's. Most often you will see bonds quoted based on % premium or discount.

The idea is to learn here, no aggression no antagonism.

These banks put a limit to the principal they take for bonds due to the longtivity of the asset. They try to avoid traders buying the instrument rather than investors. If you want to purchase the FGN bonds you may approach a house to buy from the secondary market for you if you do not meet the criteria of your commercial bank. Bonds are traded daily and sometimes you may get investors willing to share part of their bonds which may match the principal which you intend to invest. The beauty of bond is the steady stream of inflow quarterly or bi-annually which can be further invested in other assets T-bills or equities.
Download the form from DMO and take it to your commercial bank. It is best you emphasized it is FGN BONDS and not FGN SAVINGS BONDS these are two different instruments

Good pm my sabi/gurus in the House. Please I have come again, thanks for the swift responses I got 91days ago.lolz...

Back to my question, am a Frist timer on TB,I did 1.1M ,around feb dis year and I got 11.75 thereabout,FBN,primary market and I was given around 35k interest.Today should be the end of d tenure, wen I checked my balance online I was credited #583 ,,,,,now my confusion is that it seems I mistaken ticked rollover(or they did),now I don't know what rate that I was given,
2.....pls can I go to another first bank branch to make confirmation....(because presently am not in the state I did d last TB transaction)
3......if the rate is small ,can I terminate d TB...
Pls I need answers fast...

Please gurus, I was having 1.1M, plus the 35k that 1.135k,now it was reinvented, and #583 was dropped into my account,,pls at wat rate do u think it ,at 91 days.pls urgent answer is needed...
Plenty thanks

Most banks will roll over your investment if they do not get a mandate from you 24-48hrs before maturity and I guess they gave you the available rate. But it is best you call your account officer to confirm the status of yourTB or you contact the bank through the various channels available. Whichever way it virtually impossible to get N583 as a yield from a coupon on TB at a discount rate of 1.1M. Policy for Termination of investment varies from bank to bank.

With the next MPC meeting around the corner, no one can be sure of the outcome but it is likely there will be a hold on the MPR, nonetheless foreign investors are exiting hence the government needs to start making this bills attractive. Coupons may rise about 100-300 basis point in coming months. My sincere position is lock into shorter tenors if you have low liquidity so you do not miss out on better rates going forward or sell at a discount.

Due diligence is advised

You may be right, but also remember that***this current Government doesn't follow the inflation/Deflation principle.....
CBN is only exploiting on the Oversubscription and excess demand on T.B**that's why the rates are dropping drastically.
Let's see what happens this coming Wednesday..

there are many reasons the rates are sliding, you cannot level it down just to the aforementioned, but yea you are right and they are not hiding that fact because the minister as often said FGN debt is largely going to be sourced from the external environment.
