gantic: Most people make the blunder of hedging FX rate and do not see the fact that most banks and nigeria as a whole does not only have the problem of rate but often the problem of liquidity. You may hedge your rates with a bank say AAA bank for 360 for a period of a year but when the time comes to activate your policy they tell you they do not have liquid dollar to effect the transaction. Why do you think CBN has been enforcing banks to sell FX to the customers and walk in? Artificial scarcity. 1 Like |

opomulero: He gets the the face value of the bond at maturity regardless of what he paid for it . In the instance above , the investor bought the bond at a discount hence he will still get the face value of the bond which is 10m. Which increases his yield. Take for instance On Monday i sold at T-bill of face value of 47m at a discounted price of 45m+ plus does that mean the buyer will not get 47m at maturity of the Tbill? 2 Likes |

Fimidaraire: sorry for your loss, it is either you sold this TV to this my bros, or you are yet to collect your money or you guyz have some sort of collision because if not you will know that people choose to either hang their TV or make use of the base and when they do not like a base they go for an alternative if they can. whether you bought a TV without base is your malaria and if i want one with a base that is not flat is my malaria. But you wouldn't know that will you ? |

awesomeJ: Euro bonds are priced at 100 while FGN are priced 1000. It is pivotal to state this difference because EURO BOND is governed by global laws FGN bonds too but they have this peculiarity to Nigeria's. Most often you will see bonds quoted based on % premium or discount. The idea is to learn here, no aggression no antagonism. 2 Likes |

These banks put a limit to the principal they take for bonds due to the longtivity of the asset. They try to avoid traders buying the instrument rather than investors. If you want to purchase the FGN bonds you may approach a house to buy from the secondary market for you if you do not meet the criteria of your commercial bank. Bonds are traded daily and sometimes you may get investors willing to share part of their bonds which may match the principal which you intend to invest. The beauty of bond is the steady stream of inflow quarterly or bi-annually which can be further invested in other assets T-bills or equities. Download the form from DMO and take it to your commercial bank. It is best you emphasized it is FGN BONDS and not FGN SAVINGS BONDS these are two different instruments |

Sammybabelious: Most banks will roll over your investment if they do not get a mandate from you 24-48hrs before maturity and I guess they gave you the available rate. But it is best you call your account officer to confirm the status of yourTB or you contact the bank through the various channels available. Whichever way it virtually impossible to get N583 as a yield from a coupon on TB at a discount rate of 1.1M. Policy for Termination of investment varies from bank to bank. |

With the next MPC meeting around the corner, no one can be sure of the outcome but it is likely there will be a hold on the MPR, nonetheless foreign investors are exiting hence the government needs to start making this bills attractive. Coupons may rise about 100-300 basis point in coming months. My sincere position is lock into shorter tenors if you have low liquidity so you do not miss out on better rates going forward or sell at a discount. Due diligence is advised 1 Like |

Gavrelino123: there are many reasons the rates are sliding, you cannot level it down just to the aforementioned, but yea you are right and they are not hiding that fact because the minister as often said FGN debt is largely going to be sourced from the external environment. |
