You see, that's the result of greed.
I guess he didn't know just like me too that the capital Base is N20m.

Moreover, they have not and will never tell him that they won't pay. They keep telling him that they have constraints and that they will pay.

Maybe he too has suddenly realised that he shouldn't have placed such huge amount in a N20m capital based bank.

He was rolling over and collecting interest for about 3yrs and at about 25%.

The last he told me was that he would approach them to keep paying his interests so that with time, he would be able to recoup his principal. I hope they will even be in a position to pay interest now.

I guess maybe there's nothing the CBN can do to help him out especially since you say that their capital base is N20m. If a bank is distressed and as a result, can't even pay you the amount you desire even in a savings account, is there anything CBN can do to force them to pay what they don't have?

It has been repeated here times without numbers that "the higher the interest, the higher the risks" but people who are greedy would not listen until they witness it.

I simply laughed when someone said Skye wants to pay 13% for Fixed deposit. Yes, they can pay what Stambic, First, Zenith, GT and other 1st tier banks can't pay because they are standing just on one leg and they know that should they fall, they will fall with their customers and nothing will happen other than the NDIC paying everyone same paltry amount that is guaranteed by law.

I doubt if any 1st tier an can pay 10%

well sadly, there is a lesson to learn here. Most fund managers know too well to diversify, since we are our own fund manager we should learn to diversify. It is key in cushioning risk.

Be on the good side of the market

With the Fixed deposit issue , the credit risk of the bank matters on the rate you will get. You can not compare the credit risk of a GTB to that of a Skye or unity. The higher the risk the higher the rate of return and the lower the risk the lower the rate of return.

Between investing in T-Bills and FG Bonds, which is a better offer?
Can someone kindly advise.

Okay these two government securities are typically of two different classes, the T-Bills is a money market instrument while bonds are capital market. The major difference is the tenor, the TBills go for shorter tenor than the Bonds that are for longer tenor. In Nigeria's economy the longest tenor for a TBill is 364 Days while the shortest for the Bond is 2 years in the case of the FGN savings bond.

Bottom line

Regardless of the yield your investment strategy matters, do you want to go long with your asset or you are holding a short position.

Could be a long process depending on the circumstances surrounding the relative's death. If the death is Intestate (death without a will), then you have to go through the Probate courts.

Well, you can approach the registrars for more information of what is required not what was held by the deceived relative though. They are not permitted by law to give you any info concerning the deceased holdings until you a letter of administration from the courts.

Your broker can also guide you through the process, probably for a fee.

Many thanks

Banks are trying to take advantage of the slope of the rates to increase their placement. If you prefer that option you can check various banks, i heard skye is offering as high as 14-16% on 2-10 million. Please this is only for information purpose.

Please this reduced rates of TB, is there any hope of it coming back to normal soon?

Primary market rate should settle around 11-12% rate by q3'18 but those days of jumbo 16-20% are gone for now .
