[quote author=Correctgist post=71748286]On the 1st of October, the senior pastor of the Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor William Kumuyi and his wife, Esther, paid President Buhari a visit at the state house Abuja. In a post he shared on his Facebook page this afternoon, former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, expressed his displeasure at the clergyman's visit to President Buhari. FFK says he is ashamed and outraged by the visit. Read what he wrote below My paternal great grandfather (my grandfather's father), Rev. Emmanuel Adelabi Kayode, was an Anglican priest. He was educated by the Christian missionaries and the Anglican Church and he studied theology at Fourah Bay College in Freetown, Sierra Leonne which was at that time a satellite campus of the United Kingdom's Universty of Durham. In 1892 he graduated with honors with a Master of Arts degree in theology. He was the first Anglican priest to introduce Christianity to the ancient town of Ile-Ife in the Osun province of the western region of the old Southern Protectorate of Nigeria and he was the first to build and Pastor a Church there. He pastored the Church in Ile-Ife for many years before he was later transferred to Ondo province to head another branch of the Anglican Church for a further 16 years. After that he was posted to Ijebu province where he headed the local branch of the Anglican Church until he went into retirement in the old Lagos colony. He was a deeply courageous man who loved the Lord passionately, who was totally dedicated and committed to the spreading of the gospel, who served the Church all his life and who was a great, powerful and fiery orator and preacher. My second paternal great grandfather was Rev. Joseph Suberu Fanimokun. He was my grandmother's father. He was also educated by the Anglican Church and he also graduated with honors in 1892 from Fourah Bay College in Freetown, Sierra Leonne. He was also later ordained as an Anglican priest. He was appointed Principal of the famous Christian Mission Society (CMS) Grammar School in the Lagos colony in 1896 and he remained principal until 1914. CMS Grammar School is the first and oldest secondry school in Nigeria. These facts, coupled with the fact that I am a devout and practising Evangelical/Pentecostal Christian, are a pointer to my rich Christian heritage and I am very proud of that. It is precisely because of that heritage that I have profound respect for the Body of Christ and that I revere all genuine men and women of God. I have the deepest affection for each of them even where and when I do not totally agree with all their views, actions and submissions. Yet despite that once in a while that affection is put to the test and my patience and good faith is exhausted. The picture below provides a good example of this. Frankly it is difficult for me to fathom or fully comprehend what is going on there. I see the much-loved and highly respected Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi of Deeper Life (one of the greatest Churches on the African continent and a pioneer Church within the Pentecostal denomination in Nigeria) and his wife felicitating with a man under whose watch more innocent and defenceless Nigerians, and particularly Christians, have been slaughtered than any other in the history of our country. So much innocent blood has flowed under Buhari yet Pastor Kumuyi is still comfortable with smiling and shaking hands with him and neither has he said one word publicly about Leah Sharibu. I and many others are saddened by this. This is all the more so because I happen to love Pastor Kumuyi and the Deeper Life Church. I always have and I always will. Yet sadly I also feel a deep sense of shame and outrage about this outing. For how long must a few of our clerics embarass the Body of Christ and Christendom by bowing before our oppressors and encouraging them to continously torment, afflict and terrorise our people. Pastor Kumuyi's photoshoot with Buhari reminds me of the famous picture of Pope Pius X11 shaking hands with and commending Adolf Hitler during the course of World War 11. The Catholic Church never lived it down and was compelled to tender a public apology for this grave error almost 50 years later. Let us hope that one day every man and woman of God, whether he or she be a Pastor, Bishop, General Overseer or Archbishop, that has in any way supported, encouraged, applauded or colluded with the evil tyrant that has afflicted, scourged and plagued our land and our people over the last 3 years and six months will find the decency and courage to apologise for it. Let us hope that more of our clerics can find the courage of the late Bishop Ajayi Crowther, the late Apostle Ayo Babalola, the late Archbishop Benson Idahosa, the late Rev. Musa Asake, Rev. Ayo Oritsejafor, Bishop Emmanuel Bolanle Gbonigi, Bishop David Oyedepo, Pastor David Ibiyomi, Dr. Paul Eneche, Prophet T.B. Joshua, CAN President Rev. Samson Ayokunle, Pastor Paul Adefarasin. Bishop El Buba, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, Apostle Samson Suleiman, Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere, Pastor Rhoda Awiliki and so many others. They and countless other leaders of the clergy from all over the country that have remained true to their calling, stood firm in the face of tyranny, refused to bow to evil, spoken truth to power and stood up against the manifest injustice that has gripped the land are our pride and joy. Speaker Yakubu Dogara confirms that the PDP nomination form for the House of Representatives was bought by his constituents – Dogara says he was planning to leave the House of Representatives having served there for 12 years – The speaker reveals that he is yet to sign the PDP nomination form since he is still consulting Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has reacted to his alleged defection from the All Progressives Party (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and he has even obtained a nomination form. There had been reports that Dogara got the PDP nomination form to return to the House of Representatives even though he had yet to formally announce his defection from the ruling APC. READ ALSO: 2019: Tinubu reportedly seals Ambode’s fate “Earlier today, I was presented with the PDP @HouseNGR nomination form by my constituents. They urged me to relinquish membership of the ruling APC & stated reasons such as the blatant injustice and outright disregard for democratic principles being perpetrated within the party. “I feel deeply honoured by this kind gesture; however, I will not fill this form until I have consulted with those supporters who remain in APC. I thank my people for their unwavering support so far, and remain unshaken in my belief that all power belongs to God,” he said in his tweets. “I had even considered stepping aside as I’ve held this position for close to 12 years but as my constituents have asked that I seek re-election, then I must heed their call. “Representing my people has been an honour and no one should have to suffer the indignity of begging before being allowed to exercise a constitutional right,” he said. http://nowvideo.today/2018/09/17/current-news/bassey/breaking-dogara-rejects-pdp-nomination-form/77914/ |
ANKELI EMMANUEL in this report writes on moves by both the APC and PDP in Sokoto State to ensure that Governor Aminu Tambuwal does not return to office if he fails to emerge as presidential candidate of the PDP Current political development in Sokoto State no doubt potents great danger and a looming implosion for both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2019 general elections, if not well managed. Whereas there are other political parties eagerly waiting and praying for such implosion, there is the natural tendency that they will woo defectors with free tickets should that happen. However, a deeper anatomy of the other parties aside APC and PDP show that they are only but appendages of the two. The impending implosion, no doubt, might have diverse reasons peculiar to each party depending on the degree, magnitude and influence of those involved. For clarity sake, therefore, the analysis will scrutinize both the PDP and APC as the hide and seek games continue. Sokoto PDP in the eyes of the storm The political terrain in Sokoto State has continued to be undulating since governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal dumped the ruling APC for PDP. Those who have commenced Tambuwal’s defection say the governor has simply excercised fairness, justice and strict adherence to the tenets of his conviction and religion. For those in this school of thought, many other politicians who are still defending mediocrity by not calling a spade a spade like Tambuwal did are but enemies of the country. In their opinion, if most politicians and electorate went up in flames criticising immediate past government of Goodluck Jonathan because of insecurity, corruption and misgovernance, then they should now remove the spec from their eyes and see the log of wood in the present government’s route. Notable amongst those holding such notion is Alhaji Suleiman Muhammed Maikasuwa, who said if they failed to criticize President Muhammadu Buhari for the glaring failure to address all those things Jonathan was accused of, then they are hypocrites. According to him, it is no longer news that there was massive looting and insecurity under the then Jonathan-led administration, the cost of living for the ordinary Nigerian was relatively fair which signifies economic stability. He lamented further that Nigerains are disappointed now that after three years into the Change government, the status quo never remained but has continued to get worse by the day. Seeing the deterioration of things in Nigeria as a glossy selling manifesto for the opposition PDP, Maikasuwa however wondered if gladiators of Sokoto PDP and that of other states are genuinely ready to take advantage of that. Giving his reasons for such contemplation, Maikasuwa querried what he described as a glaring display of impunity by the PDP and APC as well. According to him, it makes no sense for Tambuwal to have logically imposed his former commissioner for local government, Alhaji Manir Dan’Iya on PDP as a consensus gubernatorial candidate. Dissecting the scenario that played out leading to Manir Dan’Iya’s endorsement, a source from within the party who prefers anonymity said majority of the party faithful are still in shock over the development. He however added that, it was a fractured arrangement whose aim was simply to allow for a comeback should Tambuwal miss the presidential ticket. “Though, we are very optimistic that Tambuwal is going to emerge as PDP’s presidential flag-bearer at the end of the day, however, picking Manir Dan’Iya as Sokoto PDP gubernatorial consensus candidate is like making him a caretaker waiting for the arrival of the landlord. “Some members of the PDP are not comfortable with the arrangement. However, Bafarawa was said to be at ease with the resolution so long as his conditions will be met. “We gathered that the grand design was to make Bafarawa’s son the deputy governor under PDP. “But I can assure you that some political big shots of the party are not in any way happy with the development. Therefore, people should expect defection from the PDP back to APC and vis-vasa or to any other party soon”. Sokoto APC and the looming danger Though, APC in Sokoto seems to be at ease despite not being in power because of Senator, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko and President Muhammadu Buhari. Wamakko, whose political whirlwind is characterized by the SAI ALU lexicon, has a better grip of the electorate than any other politician in the state. Expectedly, this therefore bestowed on him the singular privilege to choose who gets what political position in the state. Wamakko manifested this when in 2015 he single handeldy picked Tambuwal as his successor. And that was it as no other opposition or discordance voices from within could withstand that choice because of the SAI ALU movement. Prior to Wamakko’s endorsement of Tambuwal, all eyes were on his commissioner Of Finance, Faruk Malami Yabo who hails from the same Senatorial District with Tambuwal. Before then, their Senatorial District was the only one that was yet to govern the state since the return to democracy in 1999. Senator Wamakko in his wisdom having picked Tambuwal from that region went ahead to pick a deputy from Sokoto South to help balance the equation. It could be recall that all eyes were hitherto on honourable Yabo to succeed Wamakko before the sudden turn of events. It is equally an open secret that Faruk Malami Yabo had before then showed interest in succeeding Wamakko. A decision which allegedly was said to have been endorsed by Wamakko before he later asked Faruk to step aside for Tambuwal in 2015. Though most electorate felt upset with the decision and pressed it on Yabo to defect to another party so as to pursue his political interest, Yabo however showed statesmanship, stayed back and supported Tambuwal. Now that another election is by the corner, most pundits in Sokoto felt it was very apt to consider a consensus ticket for Yabo as the APC gubernatorial flag-bearer. But alas, that was not to be as a hidden battle of wit seems to be gradually playing out. A reliable source from APC had divulged earlier that there was a grand design to deny Yabo’s Senatorial District the chance of governing the state come 2019 as a punishment for Tambuwal’s defection. It’s on record that Sokoto has a gentleman’s agreement which allows for each Senatorial District to govern the state for two terms. In compliance with that agreement, Bafarawa from Sokoto East, served two terms of four years each between 1999 to 2007. Wamakko, from Sokoto North served as governor for two terms of four years each between 2007 to 2015. Tambuwal from Sokoto South Senatorial District is currently serving his first tenure of four years and is expected to have another four years, all things being equall. However, as the day progresses, it is glaringly manifesting that the powers that be in the APC are bent on denying Sokoto South Senatorial District a second chance hence the prefrence for other candidates aside Yabo. Speaking on the two scenarios and what political messages electorate were to deduce from them, a source from the APC who spoke on condition of anonymity captured it thus: “Like the PDP where Tambuwal was said to have planted his stooge as the consensus gubernatorial candidate, the powers that be in the APC are also trying to do same. “They have openly supported other aspirants against Faruk Malami Yabo. And that is going to be the genesis of another implosion in the party. “We have gathered reliably that the state deputy governor, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto who is from the same Senatorial District with immediate past govenror and now Senator, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko is the preferred candidate. “We equally gathered that, former Minister for Transport, Alhahi Yusuf Suleiman who is from Sokoto East Senatorial District is going to deputize Ahmed Aliyu”. The source said. If the position of the source is anything to go by, then, APC in the state is still waxing in the sea of uncertainty as 12 of the State Serving House of Assembly Members who refused to defect with Tambuwal jointly purchased gubernatorial form for Faruk Malami Yabo. The lawmakers, irked by the unfolding scenario, felt Yabo should be compensated as the party’s consensus candidate for his loyalty to the party and their leader, Senator, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko. Presenting the Guber form to Yabo in his residence in presence of all the 12 lawmakers, the Minority Whip, Abdullahi Sidi Gwadabawa noted that Faruk Yabo posses all the qualities of a good leader hence he has been tested and trusted having served in diverse dimensions in the state. Gwadabawa added that the state lawmakers bought the form for Yabo in appreciation of his patience and obidience to the party and it’s leader, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko. He recalled with nostalgia how Wamakko preveiled on Yabo to step down for Tambuwal in the build up to 2015, saying such sacrifices deserved to be reciprocated by all. Much as many see the state lawmakers gesture of purchasing guber form for an aspirant as a healthy one, the decision however does not seem to go down well with the party executives in the state. This was more so that only very few of the party’s chairmen from across the 23 local government areas of the state were present during the presentation. They were however said to be handy when the deputy governor, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto picked his form to contest the state governorship come 2019. As the development stands, there seems to a bitterly hidden cold war between members of the APC in the state as supporters of either camp are making use of any available opportunity to explain why his co-contestant cannot become the governor. “As things stands today, if the state APC is to avoid the looming implosion, then they have to do the needful by featuring one candidate before things gets out of hand. “And if it continues this way, I am sure you can see the handwriting on the wall already because the state lawmakers have taken their stand. And the party decision making body seems not to be at ease with that. “What we are foreseeing therefore is that, if the state party leaders do not thread with caution by ensuring that the gentleman agreement of each Senatorial District serve two terms as governor is upheld,, then the tendency for a major crack in the APC is eminent”. https://leadership.ng/2018/09/17/sokoto-gang-up-against-tambuwals-plot-to-return-through-back-door/amp/

The last may not have been heard of the controversies trailing the second term bid of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State as Asiwaju Bola Tinubu reportedly told the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christians Church of God, Pastor Adeboye, that he (Tinubu), will not prevail on any of the aspirants to step down. This was as one of the aspirants and former Commissioner for Works and Infrastructural Development, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat confirmed Tinubu’s stance on the September 26 primary, saying the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has no anointed candidate among the contenders. Saturday Telegraph authoratively gathered that Pastor Adeboye’s intervention is one of the latest moves by Ambode to persuade Tinubu to support his second term bid just like he did in 2015.It was learnt that the revered Christian leader had inquired through telephone conversation with Tinubu to know how the issue of the APC primary could be resolved. But the former governor insisted on direct primaries in the interest of fairness and justice for those who had obtained the APC forms for governorship primary in the party. Although the telephone conversation, which had been converted into a text was silent on what Pastor Adeboye said, Tinubu was quoted to have maintained his posture that all contenders should go to the field and test their popularity before the people they want to govern. The APC leader said he had been accused of imposition in the past and would not want to be seen as imposing any aspirant on the people in line with what democracy entails. Tinubu in the text message which was going viral on twitter told Pastor Adeboye that: “Sir, people have been accusing me of imposition. They say I imposed candidates at will. That’s why I said all aspirants including the governor to get to the field and test their popularity among the people in an open contest of direct primaries. “Sir, my hands are tied on his matter, I cannot ask those who have picked the expression of interest and nomination forms to withdraw or not contest. That will be greatly unfair. We will ensure a level-playing ground for all the governorship aspirants including the incumbent governor.” A source close to Tinubu, who chose to be anonymous because he was not authorised to speak on the matter, confirmed that there was a conversation between the APC leader and Pastor Adeboye on Ambode’s second term. He said: “It’s true that baba (Pastor Adeboye) had intervened and Asiwaju also responded. It is not in doubt that Asiwaju has a tremendous respect for the man of God and this is clear from his response. I will leave you to interpret his response and decide whether Asiwaju will ask one aspirant to step down for another.” Meanwhile, Hamzat has said politicians will tell all forms of lies to create impressions that they have been anointed by the party’s national leader, saying that the former governor had promised to ensure a level playing field among them. Hamzat said: “That was exactly what he (Tinubu) told me too. That was exactly what I am saying. He has said it publicly, so behind him, people can say anything. You will see all sorts of thing flying in the newspapers and social media that are not true. That is what we know. He has said it repeatedly to everyone. He said it to me personally that he has no chosen candidate. Everybody should go and contest, should go and meet the people and talk to them and that is what I will do.” Asked if he was not worried by the claim of the supporters of Babjide Sanwo- Olu that he has the blessing of Tinubu, Hamzat said: “Well I can only speak base on what I know. I met the national leader one-on-one and what he told me was what he said publicly. He also said it at a stakeholders’ meeting that he doesn’t have a candidate. So, everybody can say whatever they like but you know, all the candidates will say they have his backing.” https://newtelegraphonline.com/2018/09/tinubu-to-adeboye-my-hands-are-tied-on-ambodes-2nd-term/ |

Former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has reacted to a book by former APC National Publicity Secretary, Mr Bolaji Abdullahi, which he wrote against the PDP government of former President Goodluck Jonathan before dumping the APC. The book, titled ‘On A Platter of Gold: How Jonathan Won and Lost Nigeria’, had portrayed Jonathan as a week leader. Reacting to the references made to him in the book, especially regarding the role he played as Jonathan Campaign Organisation’s media director in 2015, Fani-Kayode concurred with Adullahi’s claim that he allegedly carried out an “ethno-religious campaign” against the then presidential aspirant and current president, Muhammadu Buhari. Fani-Kayode wrote in a Facebook post: “I just read the references that my friend and brother Bolaji Abdullahi made to me in his book titled “On A Platter Of Gold”. “He accused me of carrying out an ethno-religious campaign in 2015 when I was Director of Publicity in President Goodluck Jonathan’s “Presidential Campaign Organisation and of labelling Buhari and the APC as Muslim fundamentalists. “He was right because that is precisely what Buhari and APC was then and still is. The rise in power of the Fulani militias and terrorists and the slaugter of thousands of Christians in the Middle Belt and the south by Buhari’s kinsmen and allies over the last three years bears an eloquent testimony to that. “I spoke the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth during the campaign and I am proud of the fact that the Lord opened my eyes and gave me such foresight and insight. Advertisement “I stand by my 2015 characteristation and categorisation of the APC and Buhari and I am glad that Bolaji himself, together with Saraki, Kwankwaso, Atiku and all the others that stood with Buhari in 2015 have now reconsidered their position, seen the light, done a you turn and returned to our ranks. “I have been vindicated and nothing feels better than that. If only they had listened to me in 2015 and not been fooled by Buhari our country would not be as dangerously divided as it is today and many Christian lives would not have been wasted. “We would have not experienced the genocide, ethnic cleansing and mass murder that we have witnessed in the last three years. “I did my bit then and spoke truth to power and I have been doing the same ever since regardless of the dangers this portends. It is now left for Bolaji and the others to make up for their grievious error of judgement and to do their bit to stop Buhari before he plunges our nation into a full scale civil war. “Together we shall fight the dark forces that Buhari represents and bring our country back to the path of moderation, unity, love and peaceful cohabitation. “The problem with core northern leaders generally is that they love leaders that speak for the core north but they hate leaders that speak for the south and the Middle Belt. “We must have a balance of the two if we want to live in peace and we must be ready to stand together and collectively condemn that which is evil,” said the former minister. |
