kokaneprodigy: He has his weaknesses which I have stated clearly that are not good enough for a 4-3-3. But it’s ridiculous the number of things he’s been blamed for on this thread, Xhaka is the reason for the terrible midfield under Emery, he’s the one responsible for Guendouzi’s subpar performance, he’s to blame for the slow growth of the young midfielders, he’s to blame for 3-4-3 that was switched to by Arteta due to lack of an AM. If u can’t impregnate ur wife it’s Xhaka’s fault. Lol His weakness is defending but he can pass and build up attacks. Some managers prefer the later if they must choose one. |

kodded: Our midfield currently cannot contain a third player, because it's so porous that we have to pack a double pivot tight to a back 3 simply to create the impression of defensive solidity.
Look what happened when we tried Xhaka-Ceballos in front of a back 4 against an already-relegated Watford.
from reddit Why don't you give us the full line up instead of picking out just two players |

jamalnation: Personally i feel xhaka/cellabos combination is very balance. flexiblity & steel with the help of willams & saka drifting into the middle of the park to make up numbers when we are not on the ball it will be like a 5-4-1 and as for creativity saka & willams will create the chances needed we also have cellabos too. there is tierney & bellerin who would weep those killer croses. most of our goals comes from the flank Great analysis. |

Like everyone will be stupid enough like Emery that will rely on Willock or Guen to play a 10 role But they won't remember to praise him for the success of the 3-4-3 formation. |

mostob: I think 3-4-3 is still the best if we want Auba and Pepe to score more goals this season. With 4 at the back, they will be playing as a winger... a bit far from the opponent box. With 3 at the back, they automatically become the WFs. Not really, it depends. If you have someone like Ozil or Willian playing AM and can easily switch to wing it can allow Aubameyang to move central. |

kodded: the only reason xhaka is 'so good' is because of the extra CB in the defence, remove that extra man and watch xhaka getting exposed
Xhaka is not a DM and he never was, when wenger and emery used him in that role, we all saw how open our midfield was. That is the main reason arteta is going all out for partey, with partey we can switch from 3-4-3 to a more advanced 4-3-3.
Signing a world class DM like partey for £45million is an opportunity we shouldn't miss if we are to continue our rebuilding process because signing a young prospect DM might either take us forward or backward, we tried it with torriera and it failed so we should go all out to get partey or else it will be bye bye top 4 for another 3 years You are right that Xhaka isn't a DM, I have been saying that here. Xhaka has good passing ability and passing range which some managers like Arteta, Emery value more than tackling. If he does that more than Partey, he will surely be preferred over him. The exception to this is if Partey can provide both passing and tackling. |

iamoyindamola: Nah he won't, xhaka is slow, can't pass, panicked on the ball and can't guide himself. Once he's exposed wahala Dan start You need to follow Xhaka's recent performances under Arteta. I am not saying he is better, but Xhaka has the capacity to improve to a point he can be better than Partey. |

iamoyindamola: Lol...where did ceballos played when he led Spain to u20 championship Xhaka is error, they should get parrtey. He played CM. Partey can compete with Xhaka, but I think he is too expensive at 27. There are other options. By the way, you may be surprised that Xhaka may bench him in Artetaball. |

Kbs468: I think if Partey joins, then we would switch back to the 4 3 3 formation thus giving more room for the Left backs to operate upfront supporting the attack line We will need an AM. I don't think Ceballos can handle that role as well as he handles the CM. Unless Ceballos will be our Thiago Alcantara that will start and finish attack moves while the other DM (Xhaka) will switch to make shift LB, LB (Tierney) to winger, winger (Auba) to CF. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Spy360(m): 6:52am On Sep 02, 2020 |
iamoyindamola: That mean Tierney will play his preferred position which may be one of the reasons AMN will go. People don't get that AMN is just a tactical manoeuvre by Arteta. AMN neither plays FB or WB, he actually plays in midfield he only switches positions when we are defending and building from the back. He even pushes up to winger position to allow Aubameyang go central. Such is the tactical genius in Arteta- to give players unique roles that confuses the opposition. That's why AMN is winning MOTM awards, he is tactically flexible and astute. We will lose a real talent if he leaves, and I believe the Arsenal board have realised this and ended speculations about him leaving. |

Roland17: Does Gab's signing mean we will go back to a back 4?
I am thinking Arteta favors the 3-4-3 because of our fragile midfield. I think he is forced to play 3-4-3 due to the lack of an AM in the team. With a proper AM he will switch to a 4-3-3 which I believe will make us more lethal and also give him a lot of tactical tweaks. Meanwhile, if Ceballos signs we may as well forget about Partey. Though I feel we could get some other decent DM for good fee. Partey is becoming a distraction. |

ndidibabe: But truth be said, Auba has limitations. He can score but he is not a threat when there is no space for him to hit a goal. He doesn't dribble, he is not aggressive and doesn't make good use of his pace. For me, he is just an average player but a good striker. Will he make the first eleven in teams like Mancity, Barcelona, Madrid, PSG, Liverpool or Bayern? Definitely No!. These teams play aggressive football and he won't fit in. This is appalling to say the least. Disappointing thoughts. |

Jodera: Oh wow! I think I read , was it Roland or Iamonyindamola that said Nelson (maybe from their view) and since the official MOTM is Niles. Then that's great. It means both of them gave at least a 7 rating performance. Niles really have improved very well, starting from the fa cup s/f wen it was evident. Locking down salah(as you opined) is really a great feat, and he's consistently growing in that wing back position of his and making it his own. If he continues like this, I don't mind us keeping him.
I want to hear your views, would you still want him sold especially as he's locking down that wingback role excellently?

Ibe never seen Salah that silent in a game, I think camera only focused on Salah twice in the game ; one when he was trying to push attack and the other time when the penalties were being played. I hope we have a buy back clause cos I have a funny feeling this kid will turn out good. The same point I am making with AMN. These kids are full of potentials, some may not shine now but will definitely shine. A buy back or sell on clause should be inserted in their deals if we do not want to say 'had I known' |
