Jodera: I fit pity nelson, but you see willock. Na straight to crystal palace him suppose dey go Just as we have been discussing, right now these players are not producing anything, then very soon their contracts will remain one year and they would begin to itch for more playing time . The best thing is to 1. Loan them to a weaker PL side (like Crystal Palace as you mentioned) 2. Sell them to a weaker PL side with a buy back clause anytime he wants to move 3. Add a sell-on clause, in case he blows but not to our required standard We do not have to suffer after investing and tolerating so much bullshiit only for the player to now turn Hotkid immediately after leaving us. |

Jodera: I think this is the issue of our back and forth.. So lemme ask. 1.. If you acknowledge that there's an opportunity cost and he turns out good like debruyne, what will you do?
2..Also, what would you do the mitigate the negative effect of the opportunity cost you're acknowledging.
If you can answer this two, I would love to hear your view Thanks for asking. 1. Like all opportunity costs, you rue your losses. 2. Restrategise in case of future occurrence. Such as including buy back clauses, or bonus payments for future deals if the player moves to a higher club. A club like RB Leipzig has affiliates in other countries where their prospects can move to. We can decide to be feeding a club in Germany, Holland, France or Spain. NB: As you can see the argument is to just acknowledge that you missed something. |

iamoyindamola: Especially when the player have one good season, he will request for transfer immediately na that player club suppose loyal to? Rvp transfer still they pain me because the idiot had just one good season before he requested for transfer and wengay have been nursing his injuries since forever This is not about ready made stars like RVP or stubborn players like Ozil. It's about players who are young unearthed raw talents. I mentioned Andy Cole. Do you know that Cole played for Arsenal before Newcastle who then sold him United? The story holds that the coach then, George Graham chose Kevin Campbell ahead of him. It's like Wenger choosing to sign Walcott instead of Bale. Even when Southampton asked him to collect Bale instead. Imagine if we got Bale, this your stupid Walcott is better than CR7 would not have come up. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Spy360(m): 4:28pm On Aug 27, 2020 |
Jodera: Nobody says he's passed his peak. We just said he can't see him as a upcoming potential again to hold down a spot. So why not sell him and get someone who can do that job greatly. That's the point. Iwobi is another example, he's good but he has so many flaws, best biz is we sell him and buy and top player that can give us more than iwobi. If iwobi shines elsewhere, then fine, it comes with the business, but we shouldn't brood over something that is past(except if the trend keeps repeating and we're getting worse off).
Likewise, if we can sell Niles and reinvest the money properly, nothing will concern us if Niles is shining elsewhere (except he turn messi) as long as our own players are shining. Simple. Gnabry just shine well this season oo, if we're playing like man city or Liverpool, do you think you'll give a fvck about gnabry? Simple. Good enough. Everything you said here meets my point. We are good. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Spy360(m): 4:24pm On Aug 27, 2020 |
Jodera: No, it's good you restricted it to arsenal, cos as iamoyindamola says, arsenal have one of the average youth academy products. So he challenged you to bring players who went and become superstars like gnabry is for Bayern. Even me sef I'm finding it hard to find any.. Lol.
See, there'll always be opportunity cost, in every business, there'll always be losses, it's just ensuring your profit exceeds your loss or as Blueray said about risk mgt, you count the cost of one for a potential big profit. I remember us having Sanchez the duration gnabry left us, would you think I would want gnabry over Sanchez then? Since gnabry wants a transfer, we sold him and get our profit while Sanchez is giving us the results. The reward is greater than the risk and that's what blueray is trying to tell you since. Niles is at best a squad player for arsenal for the past how many years, we should sell him if there's bid and use it to get a good top player. If he succeeds in another club fine, if not, good luck to him. I'm tired of Wenger philosophy to be honest, no more time.. You can't find any? I listed 6 bro And I said apart from Kane others won CL. He even talked about Diarra as if he's shiit. The guy was a major player for Real Madrid. What of Sylvinho? He was a major player for Barcelona. All of them had the same effect on fans as Gnabry. I am not saying we should be crying. I am saying no one knows tomorrow. We can sell AMN because we think he is average, but that doesn't mean he cannot find his stars. I will sell AMN for a good price, but I must also acknowledge that there may be an opportunity cost. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Spy360(m): 3:56pm On Aug 27, 2020 |
Jodera: it's not necessarily true. Lukaku is shining at inter, but looking deeply, you won't say man u lost. He doesn't fit to their style of play so it's a win win for both parties. There's high tendency that even if gnabry had stayed with us, he wouldn't reach such height he's having now. That you sell a player and he turns out good elsewhere doesn't mean you lost....
But for the rest, I think we understand ourselves then Different reasons could make a club release a player like in the case of Lukaku, playing style. If Ozil leaves and turns to Messi 2.0 else where we will understand. But and but, we lost something. Yes we may have gained somehow, but we lost something. AMN brought up the argument, releasing him as a surplus may turn out in two opposite ways, but if he blows we lose the buying club gains. It becomes an opportunity cost to us. If he flops it's our gain. It could go either way. For someone to conclude that AMN has passed his peak is being short sighted and ignorant. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Spy360(m): 3:44pm On Aug 27, 2020 |
@ Jodera
I restricted it to Arsenal so that iamoyindamola will not think it's only other clubs that make mistakes and every player Arsenal released must be useless.
For Madrid, who told you they exchanged Scnieder and Robben for Ronaldo? Even if that was the case, there was still an opportunity cost as both players went on to peak further especially Robben and could have saved Madrid in those few years of mediocrity. The luck they have is that they have enough money to replace missed alternatives/opportunities.
But like I said, these things are normal. It's a game of win and lose. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Spy360(m): 3:28pm On Aug 27, 2020 |
Jodera: Lol... This your clap back to Sod09, you no try for here at all In fact eh, I don't want to break down your list one by one, cos either all the players are sub players or bench warmers. And don't even call me Kane sef. Plenty things to say sha, but if I start typing, I fit type epistles. Funnily, you didn't even drop valid players sef (like kdb for Chelsea)
But one thing is certain, blueray and Sod are very correct. For every Gnabry you'll call, there are 10 wilshere which we would have sold long ago. For every gnabry we might regret selling, there are thousand of diabys we would have sold since. We need to be ruthless. R.Madrid did away with sneijder and robben, but they brought Ronaldo. No Madrid fan will regret such move.
It's even surprising that it's only you that's clamouring over gnabry. From most opinions here, nobody send am. So let's chill, it's not as if Niles is world class. As long as they reinvest the money into better signings, it's a win win for us. I think you miss my point. I am totally in for all you posted here. No arguments at all. Players come and go. Some do well some flop. Some are early risers some are late bloomers. My point is that releasing a young prospect has an opportunity cost. It sounds familiar, but we need to acknowledge it in our discuss. Some clubs go back to get those players, some move on. Which ever the case, there is always an acknowledgement that whenever a released player finds his stars, the club lost. |

Having secured two defenders. We now have the big need for at least two midfielders. A defensive and an attacking. The later is especially if we are not sure of keeping /using Ozil.
The fact is that with this new drive for quality, we are in dire need of midfielders. |

Let's keep our differences aside and discuss Saturday's Community Shield with Liverpool. For me, it's good it's coming in the middle of transfers so that we can easily assess our squad strength and depth. My first 11, which I think Arteta should make a mix of experience, youth, new players and fringe players, Saka .......... Lacazette .......... Pepe ................. Smith-Rowe................ .. .... Xhaka.......... ............... AMN...... Tierney... Luiz.......... Saliba.. Soares ........................ Leno ........................ Subs Aubameyang (in case things go south ) Nketiah Willian Nelson Ozil Elneny Holding Martinez |

Saying Sylvinho went for right price makes me question your thinking. Why not browse first. The point is not even letting them go, but to acknowledge that we can make a mistake. Blueraydick saying we cannot regret selling AMN that he has past his best is despicable and totally insensitive having no atom of regard for the player. |

iamoyindamola: How many of them have blown? Only gnarby and we won't hear word, that's how wengay kept wheelchair till he became useless. Now West ham are blaming themselves for buying, bar gnarby tell me another of arsenal youths that have blow If a player will be good you will surely know from his youth days, arsenal youths are the most useless abeg if you remove nketiah and saka. Smith rowe have mad potential but the boy is lazy other club youth players are already stamping place in the squad arsenal own will be doing 'i want to play in my preferred position' So Gnabry is not enough excuse to be cautious? The difference money wise for missing a player that blows can sponsor the academy for 3years. One player can sponsor the academy for 3years.
