Jodera: lol... I wanted spy to answer it. After all, Vieira didn't do any 2nd coming. And he left even at his peak, same situation as henry (tho he was eased off cos of fabregas) Vieira gave the best part of his career to us, same as Lampard to Chelsea. Can you say same of Fabregas? In fact Fabregas made two attempts to leave before he succeeded. He had never hidden his connection for Barça. Arsenal was forced to insert a but back clause to his deal. This itself failed to materialise after his failure with his Barça dream. |

BlueRayDick: Don't mind spy. That was a gaffe on his part; saying Henry coming back cemented his lgedary status.
Like say Lampard was not already hero at Chelsea even when heater played for man city. I have explained that the circumstances in which Henry left COULD have affected his relationship with the club. It did for me. I wanted to hate him after that UCL finals. My love for him was rekindled when he returned and actually scored that Henrysiqued goal Vs Leeds in the FA cup. That game ended 1-0. |

BlueRayDick: Bros this is your post which I objected to:
"Henry left for Barca under similar circumstances but found a way to return to the club even scoring goals again and retiring here. That's what has qualified him as a legend"
U specifically said it was about his return. That was why I entred the discussion. That was the only reason I quoted u to disagree with that and let u know Henry was arguably our best player in modern day football. Nobody comes close to him based on what he achieved in his time at the club b4 joining barca.
I don't know why u are changing mouth.....maybe cos u agree Ur initial assertion maybe far from the truth sha. No wàhálà Scroll up for more details. |

Jodera: If I get you right... Are you saying Ashley Cole is a legend, but doesn't have legendary status? Lol... Please, what's the difference between being a legend and having a legendary status? Lol, even me nor know. Well, a statutory legend as it implies is one who is officially recognised by the club. Eg Tony Adams, Denis Bergkamp, Charlie Nicholas, David Seaman. I hope you know people are inducted into our Hall of Fame. Ordinary legend in this context are those who just make up the record books. |

Jodera: lol..what drift? Nobody says fab is a legend, or should be crowned one. What we said was, all those his speech he gave concerning his transfer away from arsenal are valid and true. Most arsenal fans who are logical won't hold it against him. I have stated before that I don't hold it against him. My point was why he raised the issue, if he wasn't considering fan's acceptance of him as a club legend? He left. That matter is dead and buried. We have move on just as Roland17 opined. |

BlueRayDick: You are talking a rubbish. You are talking a nonesense my friend!
Which one be statutory legend Na statutory Hennessy vsop u go see.
Ashley Cole left arsenal in a controversial circumstance, nobody will ever regard him a legend.
Ronaldo is in no way a legend to man utd like he is to Madrid. Everybody knows this. His achievement at Madrid has overshadowed whatever he had achieved with man utd
Just accept Henry is Arsenal's All time highest goal scorer, he won the Golden shoe 4 Times, lifted the epl twice and the FA cup twice. That is what qualifies him to be a legend.
Not some mumbo jumbo about his return to the club on a six montb loan spell as an old man. Easy. It's not about his return. If you consider the circumstances in which he left, a lot of fans were already against him. His missed chances against Barça in the finals, plus the customised jersey Puyol gave him after the match. Fans easily could have forgotten all the achievements. He could still have gotten his name in our record books but believe me, he would never have gotten that statue in front of Emirates Stadium. Back to the point of argument, should Fabregas receive the same treatment as Henry? |

Jodera: True...he didn't act crazy at first when he scored the first goal against us. I'm not talking about his celebration against us wen he scored, I'm talking about how he left us wen we needed him most, wen we stood at him at his critical time. Nobody is against his personal ambition, what most are angry for is the loyalty he destroyed when we needed him. He just gave arsenal 1 season. If he had stayed put at least till the 2nd full injury-free season, I'm sure no one will have hated him the way we do.
That's just my take, not necessarily the goal celebration he did against us. You are having double views o. How is RVP different from Fabregas? Both left at their peaks. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Spy360(m): 4:05pm On Mar 27, 2020 |
Jodera: Henry would have still been a legend whether he did the 2nd coming to arsenal or not. He's already paid his legendary dues before he left for barca. Coming back the 2nd time doesn't confirm anything. Just like drogba, his 2nd coming to Chelsea have no impact on his legendary status. He was already a legend before he left Chelsea.
Tell me any elite player that stuck to a club during the trophyless years , when the said player is not a local boy to that club growing up. Is it Gerrard that's a lifelong Liverpool fan wen he was young, grew up at Merseyside and Liverpool run through his veins, or totti(same situation at AS Roma). That's why I named wilshere as someone who would have stayed at arsenal for long, no matter how underachieving we were if not for injuries, cos he's really a local boy, and he dearly loved arsenal (just like arsenal blood were running through his veins).
Now to the bolded. Name me at least, 2 top players that stayed at a particular club during their barren spells when that said top player isn't a local boy, let's see (at least, from year 2000 upwards). Forgive me if my opinion doesn't tally with yours, just understand me. Drogba gave the best part of his career to Chelsea. Coming back to finish there is a huge bonus. Rooney gave his best part for United, he doesn't need to finish there, he has legendary status. Fabregas left at his peak, he failed in his attempt to return back when he could still do things. He shouldn't expect us to rename London Colney after him. Look at Arteta, came from Everton, gave us his peak career, left, came back to manage us in this trying times. He only needs a title to have his name besides Emirates. Welcome to the Arteta Emirates Stadium |

BlueRayDick:

How did u come about the bold part of Ur post?
Henry has been a legend b4 coming back and scoring goals na. His coming back was not what qualified him a legend o; it was what he achieved at the club that made him one Jare. One thing is to be a legend, another is to have legendary status. Henry became a statutory legend because he finished with us. Same cannot be said of someone like Ashley Cole for example. Ronaldo can be a United legend, but he won't have the official status. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Spy360(m): 7:26pm On Mar 26, 2020 |
Jodera: A club that isn't successful will have very few legend especially wen the environment is not set for him to thrive on. Henry that we all shout that he is a legend, is really a legend cos the environment then was set for him to thrive then. When the weak mentality entered the team (post veira and bergkamp time), he flee from us and went to barca. He even shortchanged arsenal sef. You think if he came during the era of fabregas, he wouldn't have ran away from arsenal like fabregas?... Lol Saying it's lame and insensitive is not fair on fabregas. Even as a fan, I knew how many times I was angry wen we know we needed a position filled just to become a title challenger and Wenger bottles it. And he repeats the cycle, year in year out. It's only someone unambitious and let's say a local boy(like wilshere) that will stay put. As long as you're not in this 2 categories and you're an elite footballer, it's a fact that you must run away from a club if you're not successful. All fab says there is the truth and anybody that thinks otherwise then have blind love for Wenger. I am not blaming them or anybody for leaving. What I am saying is that leaving is a choice, and when you leave you don't become a legend, no matter the reason. There are players who stuck to their clubs despite years of trophylessness and obscurity. Their clubs now regard them as legends. If you may recall, Fabregas had always wanted to join Barcelona. He said so himself, but he thought Barca would have any regards for him, unfortunately, it wasn't so, and then he wanted to come back to Arsenal but Wenger opted him to go to Chelsea for some cash, and then the story ends. Henry left for Barca under similar circumstances but found a way to return to the club even scoring goals again and retiring here. That's what has qualified him as a legend. |

Jodera: It's not bullcrap... It's the truth. Wenger really drained most ambitious players, and killed the winning mentality of the players They left. That's why they can't be our legends. Simple. Using Wenger's errors as excuse is lame, childish and insensitive. |

iamoyindamola: Cesc revealed why he left in 2011, he was mentally, emotionally and physically drained he thought the club was going to invest and get better players to complement him. Same reason every top players we had left, wengay was the culprit fvcking old stingy man. I will never forgive that man That's the bullscrap they stay to justify why they want fans to make them legends. |

Fkhalifa: And that's the problem, its not by fielding the big names but what works.. Remember France played Mbappe,Griezman and Dembele in their first game in the world cup, those 3 upfront looked dangerous on paper, but always struggle to break teams down, and the moment the Average Giroud was introduced, everything clicked..
Remember Spain hardly play David Villa and Torres. For me, Sanchez,Rosciky,Nasri and Arshavin ahead of Auba on the wings. You can play two strikers. He doesn't have to be on the wings. |

Also, I know coquelin might be debatable, but what he did that sole season trumps what most 4 did during the duration. It's so sad Wenger head touch and he just switched him away from his best position. Coq- Caz was really the best pairing we had at the base post 8-2 man u thrashing era You think Mertesacker should be there? Respect. |

Jodera: Adrian is part of the team, agreed, but he cost the team. There was no reason to hurriedly pass that ball....not like Liverpool was trailing sef. Salah and Mane missed chances, they created chances and they tried their best. All was undone by just a stupid moment of Adrian. The attack was perfect, oblak was just too great. Yes they crossed, but that's what is expected wen it team parks d bus. But even at that, salah and chamberlain was still doing damages, in terms of breaking 18 and outside the ball shot. Everything was under control until Adrian happened Adrian made Karius look like Allison. Saw this one on YouTube |
