Let Wenger head no touch go dat side o.... The only reasonable player we can get from Bayern in exchange for Sanchez and cash is Muller. Lewandosky would have been prefered but Bayern won't let him go. Ibra? Ala Okija forbid. |

Without going into too much complexity, the fact remains that James McClean refused to recognise a symbol of British National Pride due to perceived injustices

This Messi/Ronaldo argument is hugely misunderstood.
In terms of impact, I think as at now Ronaldo has the edge.
But in terms of talent, that is about what a human can do with the ball, it has got to be Messi.
So if you wanna argue, let there be some kind of terms of reference. |

Spot the difference You cannot class improvements simply based on points or positions. Any improvement should be based on trophys. What wonder is it that Pep is under scrutiny? That we are arguing about whether he did well or not is an indicator that performed below par, that he failed. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Spy360(m): 12:41am On Jun 03, 2017 |
Eruditor: Nah, your own question is irresponsible. So why do you consider Poch's season a success even when he did not win anything?
LOL @ objectivity. Is there any difference between Xhaka of August and the one of April/May? Care to tell me what that difference is if it exists? Based on expectations, one cannot say Poch was a failure. No body expected Tottenham to win the league. Based on expectations, Pep's season was a failure. Everybody (or didn't you?) thought Pep would win a treble (or at least win something). |

raumdeuter: No improvement?
What was the position and point total under Pellegrini vs under Guardiola
League cup? The tournament others use reserve team for? The worst trophy and waste of time Honestly I don't see how City improved from last season. Points? Arsenal won more points this season than last season. You call that improvement? Well we finished second last season. Now compare. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Spy360(m): 12:50pm On Jun 02, 2017 |
Eruditor: This is your own narrative. The squad they inherited was not strong. They were 4th with 66points. Hammered by the top 6 teams and conceded a ton of goals. Getting to the UCL semis just made up for a terrible season.
It was clear they needed marauding fullbacks and another CB. Kompany was out for most of the season - their improvements when he returned is evident. Also, CFC overperformed winning 13 straight games. Notice, after those 13 games, the W and L column between CFC and the rest of the top 4 teams became similar.
Of course, Bravo did not do a good job (but it was clear they needed to improve on Hart). Anybody arguing that fact is just debate-hungry. Also Gab Jesus and Gundögan absence and injuries did not help either. MOST OF THE REST OF THE OTHER PLAYERS ARE STILL ADJUSTING TO PEP's STYLE.
My confidence in him this term is because [s]with early transfers he would have time to work with his players [/s] before the season begins. It also stems from the fact that he is plugging the areas I saw they were clearly deficient in personnel-wise. The last reason is because I believe his way of playing is more impregnable than Mou, Klopp, Poch or Conte's style when his team gets it right.
PS: he trivialized the Carling Cup and fielded his reserves against United at OT. They were never going to win the UCL but they crashed out having tied scores with a Monaco that not only won a Ligue title but got to the semis of the UCL. The only 2 trophies he "failed" in really are the EPL and FA Cup. And he lost in the FA Cup Semis to the eventual winners. Big deal. The emboldened is an irresponsible statement. What if Pep reached the UCL semis, would you called it a way to managed a failed season? Well Pep's first season was a failure, yet he couldn't manage it. The over ruled statement, lacks objectivity. Pep was announced 6months before that season ended. He signed 2 players within his first week. Early signing has not convinced me about Pep. Don't get it twisted, Pep is a great manager but he is yet to prove he is better than the likes of Klopp, Poch, Conte, Mou and Wenger offcourse. |

raumdeuter: which strong squad did he inherit. The strong squad that finished the league 4th with 66 points. The strong team finished level with man utd lvg team that everyone claimed to be a failure Are you implying that there were no improvements from what Pellegrini achieved? He inherited a squad, added to them, yet did nothing extra. No, Pellegrini won the League Cup. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Spy360(m): 7:34am On Jun 02, 2017 |
Eruditor: I told you, there is nothing like more excuses. It is about filling the positions that are left unoccupied. It is not about signing who he "wants". If that were the case he would have gone for Marcelo, De Gea, Messi etc. It is about signing who he needs based on who he has let go. Once those spots are filled, let other managers sign as much as they need to too, he would still win it. That is what I am saying. Quote me. Last season he signed those he needed,- Bravo, Stones, Sane, Jesus, Gundugan, despite inheriting a strong squad, yet he won nothing. How are we so sure he will win next season? |
