dopeJemi: I agree with the psychology, but will you tell me that it's poor psychology that is making our players miss an empty net? Ask Nihilist. If you have played football before, even the yellings of a team mate can make the ball go through under your foot. And you wonder if you can't trap again. For me the biggest quality of a footballer is confidence. When I watch kids play, that's what I look for first. For professionals, a playe going through a goal drought may drop in confidence and begin to mess up. Ask Costa. |

dopeJemi: 1. stones was never a good defender to begin with
2. Liverpool's poor form in Jan was temporary, something every manager pass through, mignolet isn't that great
3. no manager is expected to win all the time, sir Alex lost matches too, was it because he changed tactics? no
4. i don't know
5. pep is called a fraud because he had it easy in the Spanish and German leagues where we know there isn't competition, pep's tactic in the premier league can be called into question too, city are actually converting their chances unlike united, question pep who wanted a ball playing goal keeper and defenders
6. him not winning the champions league is not a constant thing as he has won it twice before, refer back to number 3
now lets stick to the topic, cause honestly I don't see the correlation between the whys and my question
mourinho bought very good players, no?
our major problem this season have been our conversion rate which is a constant, are you trying to tell me that mourinho is to be blamed for our poor and constant conversion rate? we create many chances don't we? is mourinho to be blamed for ibrahimovic, mkhitaryan or rashford's inability to score simple tap ins?
if we were not creating the chances then we can question mourinho's tactics, but we are creating loads of chances, how is it mourinho's fault that the players are not killing them off?
how many chances did we create under van gaal? van gaal was obsessed with passing the ball, which called his tactics into question
you can't blame a coach for his players' inability to score simple tap ins
I teach you how to cook, you cooked well, do you still expect me to teach you how to eat? Psychology. Mourinho gives his players poor psychology. Strikers need confidence. A manager should be able to instill confidence in his players by supporting them when output is low and not comparing or publicly calling them out. |

elampiro: It is even possible Ahmed Musa and Quaresma trained harder than Ronaldo. Ahmed Musa may have trained harder than the other two because African players train very hard while coming up. Some even play two matches a day.
But I have noticed something, you appear to think talent is only about what one had naturally (from birth). The truth is when you say someone is talented, you are also saying he is a success, an authority in his field, etc. Success is usually as a result of natural ability and hard work. Therefore, when we talk about the greatest football talent, Quaresma cannot be mentioned. You look at talent only on the latent context. That's wrong.
There are many connotative meanings of talent. It could even mean money. But when used in relation to physical ability; especially when compared to skill or 'learning' (I did some sociology), talent is from birth. For example, speed. Some kids just run faster than others. They have never even thought of it as athletics not to even imagine being trained to run. Others include: eye-hand/leg coordination, quick thinking, proactivity, stamina, endurance, confidence etc. These abilities are not learned but can only be developed. In terms of skill, learning must take place. Learning is a character 'change' not development. For example: reading, writing, bending a ball, ball control, shooting accuracy. Talents help in acquiring skills, but both are not 'exactly' the same. |

raumdeuter: If you dont have the talent you cant train it, Ronaldo had the talent Quaresma had the talent. Ronaldo worker many times harder than Quaresma that is why he is considered one of the best ever, Ahmed Musa isnt on the same skill level as these players If Musa trains harder he might be a better player than say Quaresma but will never beat someone who had the talent and trains
Its like in academics, Some are brilliant, some study hard, The ultimate student is one who is naturally brilliant and now studies hard Don't be so sure. Messi does not train half as hard as many footballers do. Talent. Ronaldo trains harder than any known footballer. Skill. Talent is inborne. Skill is learned. Some students don't have to burn the candle. Others have to. Both ways you can reach the top. Simple. (In all, practice makes perfect). |

Step5: loosen lightly the nuts to allow left/right movement. Gently adjust. No signal? Goto step 4. NB. Keep doing this until there is a breakthrough. Eruditor: I still expect AFC to finish above Spurs. I have such low confidence in Spurs. Forget that they beat Swansea- they were lucky to. Any team chasing a title should not need a miracle to beat a relegation-bound Swansea side. Wrong. At this time of the season, the most difficult teams to face are the relegation threatened teams. |

Eruditor: This theory works for a team with character. You tried this very thing first leg and couldn't cross your half especially in the 2nd half against them. You know your team: once anyone starts pressing them they fold.
It is virtually impossible for AFC to win a game they don't play well in. That's the story of your team. True. And we are working on it. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Spy360(m): 8:45pm On Apr 07, 2017 |
Eruditor: How many years ago?
The most recent game was a 3-1 loss. Apart from being unable to defend, AFC is spineless. Even if they started well against CFC, you would still gift them a cheap penalty or get a red card. That's how fragile your team is. You needed a fortuitous Ozil goal to begin to show flair against West-Ham and started well against Bayern only to collapse through silly defending and a red card.
You should have no confidence in AFC. TBH Every team have their blips. Bayern lost to Hoffenheim, Barcelona to Alaves- no biggy. Palace beat Chelsea at Stanford Bridge, Chelsea beat City. Tyson said, 'everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face'. No matter how good a team is once their weakness is exploited, they lose. Arsenal has a team that can hurt Chelsea, only if they keep their heads down. |

Outplayed him both legs of both games?
Are points ahead of him at this stage of the season when he was ahead of the same teams last season (at this point)? The premise was a conditional statement that would warrant Wenger the right for an extention. Yes, we can beat Chelsea. We beat them 3-0 already this season. |

Eruditor: So the goals City conceded were not due to defensive errors?
If AFC are compact and counter-attack City can't survive you but if they keep possession of the ball and create a load of chances AFC will survive?
What match have you seen this season that precipitates such confidence abeg? The whole world knows that City can't defend. But they can keep the ball. So when we go compact and leave them little spaces, we can catch them open on the counter, with Sanchez, Walcott and Ozil, they will be at our mercy. This is theory though. |

Nihilist: Can, WIjnaldum and Henderson combined do not have half the talent that David Silva has in his big toe. There are levels to this ish.
MSN are also 3 men. You won't expose your defence to them because your defence regularly eats a trio of Redmond, Shane Long, and J.Rodriguez for dinner. Which is why even after Matic came on, Costa was dragged down by Conte to track back on the left flank. Which is why when Willian came on, the only thing he did was sit in midfield and track back. Willian made only THREE passes yesterday. THREE.
Context is the key to everything.
There was nothing like Poor positioning from Fabregas or Kante. The 2 of them were simply not enough to contest the midfield with City. Instead the City attacks were snuffed out at Centre back level where we had the advantage. City only had 2 shots in the box that 1st half...compared to 5 from outside the box. In fact, the only times we really looked like conceding was when Matic allowed Stones and then Kompany free headers in the box from set pieces. One of those headers was straight at Courtois, the other hit the Bar.
I don't want to do a Fab vs Matic argument today bros, but I just want you to know that a formation change was what happened yesterday, not a personnel change. Dazall. Though I wasn't concentrating but I thought Chelsea really played well yesterday. Solid and direct. Again, whether 3-4-3 or 3-5-2, you don't get 'outnumbered' in midfield. The essence of those formations in the first place is to have numbers in the middle. Matic's introduction was simply to add physicallity so as to stop the onslaught from City and prevent them from imagining a comeback. Purely tactical. So when the deed was done and heat off, Conte pulled off Fabregas for a fresher leg. In summary, everybody did their jobs very well. |

He is an emotional player. You saw how his game and facial expression impoved after he scored that goal. Within 10mins he got an assist. After that he bossed the game like no one existed before him. To stop Ozil, you have to be physical, and top coaches know this and use it against him. Such players need ref protection because they are scared of injuries and hard tackles. But if you want to play ball, then forget it. Big game or no, Ozil will kill you off. |
