Politics / Nnamdi Kanu Is Ready To Sacrifice Everything –fani-kayode by stansaintly(m): 6:20am On Nov 21, 2016 |
Former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has expressed profound opinion of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, stating that contrary to all expectations, he is the most courageous, powerful and credible Igbo leader in Nigeria today. Recounting his encounter with Kanu in the cell during his 29-day detention, Fani- Kayode said that Kanu “is not just a combination of Owelle Nnamdi Azikwe and Dim Emeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu: he is a combination of Azikwe, Ojukwu and Major Kaduna Nzeogwu all rolled into one and no government can repress him.” Fani-Kayode, who declined an interview with Sunday Telegraph, but made available the second part of his paper titled “The Spirit and Soul of Nnamdi Kanu,” said of his meeting with the ‘freedom fighter, Kanu’. “I was amazed at his depth of knowledge, his immense courage and his deep convictions.” Justifying his position, the former Minister, who was recently granted bail in a case of money laundering said: “I have associated with, met and worked with many men of influence and power since I joined politics 30 years ago but this one was different. This was a man that had what I would describe as a Mahatma Ghandi-like quality. That is to say he is one that is prepared to sacrifice everything and anything for his beliefs, his people and his cause.” He said that during the encounter, they discussed their respective views about Nigeria: “Our collective history, the suffering and marginalisation of our respective people, the reptilian and violent nature of the Nigerian state, the present dispensation and the way forward. “Nnamdi and I, rather like Che Guevera and Fidel Castro at the beginning of the Cuban revolution, connected immediately and he won my trust, respect and admiration. If there is anyone that can truly build the much needed bridge between the South-West, the South-South and the South- East it is Nnamdi Kanu,” Fani-Kayode said. Apparently aware that he stirred the hornet’s nest by that description of Kanu, currently in detention over allegations of treason, Fani-Kayode said: “I believe that we must give honour to whom it is due. Those that are upset at the fact that I spoke highly of the IPOB leader are misguided and, worst still, they lack vision, foresight and insight. “They not only lack the ability to perceive but they also lack the gift of discernment. Worse of all they are suffering from good old fashioned envy and they have been afflicted with the worst form of ignorance,” He said most of those vilifying him for his comments have never met the man Kanu, let alone know him. “I sat next to him for three solid hours in the most challenging and difficult circumstances. Like the great William Wallace of Scotland, I have no doubt that if it were necessary he would go as far as to sacrifice his very life in the struggle for freedom and independence for his Igbo people from the Nigerian state and from our internal colonial masters and for the establishment of his beloved Biafra. “Very few Nigerian leaders have that level of selflessness and commitment and I admire it. I looked deeply into his eyes as we spoke and I touched and weighed his soul. I can tell you, without any fear of contradiction, that he is a profoundly good man who loves his Igbo people deeply. He is also well-educated and widely-read and he is a formidable intellectual. “We may not have agreed on everything, but I can tell you this much: he feels and shares the pain of the Igbo and he yearns for their liberation and emancipation from I am increasingly hostile and oppressive Nigeria,” the former Aviation Minister said. Fani-Kayode added that Kanu is not a politician in the true sense of the word but “rather a freedom fighter and a charismatic leader who has managed to inspire millions of Igbo youth all over the world and that is a good thing.” He added: “Kanu is a man of great faith and conviction and his rise to prominence is not ordinary but instead prophetic, and he cannot be destroyed or silenced by any government or man born of woman because the Lord is using him. He is using him to say and do the things that many believe but that are too scared to say or do. Other leaders have had their time in the past and now this is his. He is paying a very heavy price right now for what God will use him for in the future.” |

A wise government will not just wake up in the morning and ban something as important as food (rice) except it contains poisonous substance that could be referred to as life threatening food. They should have made a provision to caution if not to arrest the effects on the populace. "A hungry man, they say, is an angry man" No be pesin wey chop dey grow? That was the same mistake Jonathan made while in the office, without notice, on January 2012, fuel subsidy was removed. When people had traveled to their far villages for Xmas and new year. Immediately, the bridge was broken and many lost their jobs, sold their properties to realize money to travel back. Our Government should stop hitting us hard with hardship, we made the government, government did not make us. |

I hate to comment on the issue like this. Hmmmm! I can't keep quiet any longer. I'm not supporting the man, after all, who needs to be told that the act is ugly but, WOMAN! Are you sure that you are not as guilty as your husband? Are you sure that you're not in the league of those women who sexually starve their husband to senseless behavior? No man would want to masturbate when his wife could render a better service. I don't know if I've wronged you. I was only making a common sense... |

Sports / How Successful Has The Frenchman Really Been At Arsenal? by stansaintly(m): 8:12pm On Oct 01, 2016 |
How successful has the Frenchman really been at Arsenal? By Ineke Bethel 20 years at one club is almost unheard of Arsene Wenger has been at the centre of the media’s attention this week as he enters his 20th year as Arsenal boss. Wenger famously took over from Bruce Rioch in 1996 as an unheard of manager which prompted the Evening Standard to use the now famous headline “Arsene Who”. Wenger has transformed Arsenal football club in more ways than one. The Gunners were previously known for playing dull, defensive football and would often scrape wins with a 1-0 scoreline, opposition fans would sing “boring, boring Arsenal” almost every match. Wenger came to North London and changed the dynamics of the club, the training techniques, facilities and diets of his players. The Arsenal squad would often chant “We want our mars bars back” on the team coach when Wenger first joined the team. Wenger may have transformed both Arsenal and the English game but many fans believe that Wenger is “past his sell-by date” but there is some evidence to show that Wenger has been just as successful in his second decade at the club than in his first. Decade 1 Trophies: 11 (3 Premier League titles, 4 FA Cups, 4 Community Shields) Games: 566 Wins: 327 Goals scored: 1022 Win percentage: 57.8 Decade 2 Trophies: 4 (2 FA Cups, 2 Community Shield’s) Games: 563* Wins: 320 Goals Scored: 1064 Win percentage: 56.6 Interesting Yes you did read that correctly, Arsenal have scored more goals in Wenger’s second decade in charge than in the first. Lets look into that a bit further. Arsenal won “The Double” in both the 1997-98 and 2001-02 seasons as well as an entire Premier League campaign unbeaten sandwiched in between two more FA Cups. Arsene Wenger’s first ten years at Arsenal were absolutely phenomenal. Arsenal fans had the luxury of watching the likes of Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp, Ian Wright, Marc Overmans, Tony Adams, Lee Dixon, Sol Campbell, Robert Pires, Gilberto Silva, Patrick Vieira, Jens Lehmann and Freddie Ljungberg. That is A LOT of world-class players and the list could have gone on far longer. Arsenal’s “Invincibles” of 2003-04 is without a doubt, the greatest side that English football has ever seen and it certainly wouldn’t have come together without Wenger’s brilliant tactical input. 2006 2006 was the half-way point in Wenger’s tenure and it was a very iconic year. Arsenal lost the Champions League final in Paris against Barcelona and set numerous Champions League records including the record for the most consecutive clean sheets in a season. 2006 was also the year that Arsenal left their beloved stadium, Highbury, and moved across to the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal did not win a trophy from 2005 until 2014, a 9 year painful spell for all Arsenal supporters as money seemingly took over football and the Gunners just couldn’t keep up. That said, Arsenal have an incredible record, yes coming in the top four is not a trophy but Arsenal have never finished outside the top four positions in Wenger’s tenure at the club which is an incredible achievement. Arsenal simply didn’t have the money to spend when they first moved to the Emirates but Wenger continuously kept Arsenal near the top. In 2013, Wenger signed Mesut Ozil for around £38 million and Arsenal won the FA Cup that season. A year later, Wenger paid £35 million for Alexis Sanchez and Arsenal yet again, triumphed in the FA Cup and fans were delighted. Wenger has spent just over £687 million on transfers in his 20 years at Arsenal whereas the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City have spent over £1 billion each in the last 13 years. One of the greatest managers of all time To sum up, Arsene Wenger has kept Arsenal as one of the biggest and best clubs in the world without spending the ludicrous sums of money that all the other heavyweights have been spending every year. When Wenger has splashed the cash in recent years, such as on Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, Arsenal have won trophies. Yes, Arsenal have not won much silverware in Wenger’s second decade in North London but their success off the pitch and keeping Arsenal at the top is perhaps on par with all the silverware that the Gunners won. Of course, that is not suggesting that finishing fourth is just as good as going a season unbeaten but Wenger has enabled Arsenal to start a new journey. Wenger has built the Emirates and Arsenal’s new training ground which has surely laid down the foundations for many trophies in the future. Love him or hate him, Wenger is one of the greatest managers that the Beautiful Game has ever seen

''Before English there was Igbo. Igbo is the lost tribe of Israel'' Igbo kwenu! I always feel like crying whenever I see teachers or parents flog their children because they were speaking Igbo language. They want their children to speak English not knowing that the English they want their children to speak was borrowed from Igbo. Do you know that there are more than a thousand words in English, French, Latin, Hebrew and other languages that were borrowed from Igbo Language. Did I just hear you say ''na lie'' ? Ok. Because of space, let me only give you 25 English words stolen from Igbo language. If you need more, you can contact me. 1. Cherubim – Borrowed from Igbo phrase ‘’chere ubim’’ which means ‘’guard my home’’ 2. Book – Borrowed from Igbo phrase “bu uka’’ meaning ‘’carries the facts’’ 3. Rough and tough time is always very difficult to conquer. I was in that situation, I lived and dwelled in it before, often times I was tempted to end it myself when my entire effort came with a little or no result. Accommodation issue, school issues and family issue teamed up against me to the point that I looked not just useless but irrelevant before my family and my friends. It takes eagle's eyes to see that there will be light at the end of a tunnel. He would have trusted God because it's when life is tough and unfair that's when one should not quit. Solution may be near when it seems very far. |
