I can boldly tell you that even though my boss is not a smiling person, he appreciates my efforts and does not yell at me anymore even though I make mistakes once in a while.

Do you know that you can start your accounting career
immediately after you finished Secondary School?
But most commercial department students of secondary schools are
not aware of this, according to a recent survey

If you start ATS after secondary school, you would have
become a Chartered Accountant before you
graduate from the university.

This is how it works;
After your SSCE, in a year, you will finish ATS 1 the first diet and
ATS 2 the second diet because in a year there are two ATS diets.
The next year, you will finish ATS 3.
While in the university, since you have ATSWA certificate, you will start ICAN from

my school studies? The answer is simple,
what you will be learning in the university is almost
equivalent to ICAN courses, if you are studying accounting,
but
if you are studying other courses, the truth is
your brain is still fresh while you are still in school and
it can accommodate as much as you allow, so no shaking.

This means by the time you graduate from the university,
you would have become a Chartered Accountant.
This will give you an advantage as a young graduated, in fact it is easy for
companies like PWC, Adekola Deloitte, KPMG, Accenture Inc and other
top accounting firms to employ you.

Jumoke who was one of the workers that was sacked
went on Twitter to lay her outburst.

I also go to work sometimes on Saturday.
But my colleague that was retained has only an edge over me,
sheis the one that handles all our manual excel document,
she analyze and format the data before it is uploaded into the accounting software.

Once it is 5pm, she is on her way home and
had never been to work on Saturday even though
she would be paid bonus if she came.

I still can’t figure out why they should sack me but retained her.

I want you to be the judge, if you were the owner of the company,
if you have to sack one of them, who will you sack?

I was going home from work on Monday evening,
I left my office around 6pm, got to the bus stop
and there goes about 30 other commuters

to even get out of bed. I switched
off the alarm and went straight back to bed.

That was how a whole day went
without me reading and gaining anything.
And this kept happening to me until

“WAEC Result is out.” Someone said

Immediately I heard this, my heart started racing on this day. I could not eat or sleep because I’ve been hearing all kinds of news.

Some people failed woefully, some passed but failed either Mathematics or English, some people barely made it past five credits. Bad news everywhere!

My parents were just hoping and praying I passed all my WAEC papers.

In this age of technological advancement,


there is a limit to how an auditor can effectively


audit IT personnels without CISA.


So if all companies want to go the technology way because


it increases productivity and profit,


then all auditor should be able to audit the technological way too.



So for me, I wanted to be able to:


 Evaluate risk management practices


 Evaluate the value of the IT control framework

.
 Evaluate IT policies, standards, processes and procedures within the organization.


 Manage and monitor IT personnel.


In order words, I not only wanted to be an auditor but I wanted to be an IT auditor.



After I became a member of ISACA,


there was an opening at the organization where I worked,


the chief auditor resigned.


So the directors decided to do an in-house recruitment instead of outsourcing since


they knew some of us where chartered.



At the interview, I presented to the board how


I was going to establish audit controls within the organization


I also pointed out to them some leakages and


the sources of those leakages,


I presented some technology controls which


I suggested were to be adopted in the IT department of our organization


in order to curtail some of the excesses.



By the time I finished the presentation,


they told me right there that I had the job even though


they interviewed the others.





That was how I became the Chief auditor of my company


which more than tripled my income.

There are lots of activities that could act as distraction whenever
you are revisiting for the fourth coming ICAN exams,
funny enough some of these distractions might be unavoidable.
But, you can actually minimize distraction.

Most of the time, notifications from electronic devices
(phone, tablet, laptops, desktop and others) only add to the distraction.
In fact, most of us are so used to getting interrupted while studying,
even when there is no notification on our phone, we still check just to be sure.
Seems we have been configured to be distracted…… smile!!!
There are other forms of distractions at work and at home….. we will discuss them all.


These tips may help you to minimize distraction, increase your
focus and assimilation while revising.

1. TURN OFF THE DISTRACTIONS
You may want to turn off all notifications from smartphones and
desktops applications. Consider checking email only four times per day and
handling each inquiry only once.
Controlling your devices and not having that technology control you,
may help reduce distractions and increase your focus and level of assimilation.
You have spent a lot for this exam, so don’t allow anything to deprive you of SUCCESS this diet.

This is because auditing work is done using paper work but in recent years, IT has changed the way audit is performed in many organization.
There are two reasons why IT auditors should use General Audit Software (GAS) products, such as Audit Command Language (ACL).
Firstly, there is the focus on fraud in recent years, according to the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) and its 2009 "Report to the Nation" survey on fraud, more than 60 percent of all frauds are detected either by a tip or by accident. While internal audit has moved up on the list, there is clearly room for more proactive anti fraud programs.
Secondly, is that the demands on IT and internal auditors are increasing and auditors will need to become more efficient to fulfill all of the responsibilities and tasks assigned to them, and having the knowledge on Audit Command Language is one way to do so.
This helps you to reduce the time you use to audit and also enable you to conduct your activities in a most efficient manner.
Using ACL empowers you as an auditor to possibly have a better sense of direction in your audit procedures.
You will be able to perform some audit procedures to gain an understanding of the data (e.g., using PROFILE, STATISTICS commands in ACL). During these procedures,
You will be able to spot an anomaly or red flag
(e.g., negative amounts where there should be none).
The data in ACL are locked down as read-only.
There is no chance for the auditor to inadvertently change the data.
This inadvertent risk is much higher for IT auditors who choose to use a spreadsheet for analyzing and presenting transactions. While one can lock cells or sheets in Microsoft Excel, there is still the possibility of human error. It is almost non-existent in ACL.

I want to put it differently, the best time to repair a leaking roof is before the rain start to fall.
One of the main keys to success is early preparation.
You will never go wrong when you start preparing for
something early. Many students face the disappointment of
failing the exams on their first trial while only a handful get
the satisfaction of passing all of the exams on their first attempt.
So, how do we ensure a 100% success in the exam on
our first sitting in the exams?

Well, the answer is to start preparing for it early!
Early preparation provides us with some flexibility in our study
schedule and allows room for any distraction such as
unpredictable events. As humans, we are all
Prone to procrastination, laziness, distraction,
stress and unavoidable family commitments and the list goes on and on.
Early preparation allows some room to manage some of these issues.

When I was studying for my ATS Exam, I started
studying 5 months before the actual exam. Everyone
thought that was way too early. However, I knew that
there was no harm in starting early and you could never
go wrong by doing that. Being a typical student who is
subject to distractions and procrastination, I allowed myself to
take a one-day break from studying every week to catch
up on all of my activities that are not study related. I would
study from the beginning to the end of the week and then be
lazy for one whole day of every week.

Hence, we will look at 3 reasons why you need to prepare early

1. IT GIVES ROOM FOR UNPREDICTABLE EVENT:
apart from the fact that early
preparation helps you guarantee your success in the exam,
it also help manage other facets of your life like family
commitments, manage stress and overcome procrastination.
Just like I did during my time, I was able to manage all my social,
relationship and study life with minimal hitches because I have enough time.


2. MAXIMIZE REVISION:
A month before the exam, I called for a review of all the
important formulas. Doing the ‘Adapt and practice exam
questions and answers’ method gave me that much needed
review. I was feeling good about the exam when it finally came
as I had covered every single topic on the exam thoroughly.
I was prepared for whatever outcome may come on the exam
day as I had tried my best and had no regrets. As a result,
I passed all my papers on my first trial.

Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will.


Are you in doubt of your success in this forthcoming ATS exam? If your answer is yes, I want you to know it’s a normal experience of all; you only need to overcome it before it stops you from achieving your goal.


Self-doubt has a mission, to hold you back and overwhelm you through its persuasive voice. A voice which continues to remind you of your present weakness, limitations and inadequacies.


But let me give you one assurance: Doubt is nothing, and there is no basis for it at all. Now this was what happened to me:

When I was about writing my exam, I was totally in doubt of my success in that exam due to the fact that it was my first time of writing the exam. Whenever doubt flashes through my mind, I became so afraid.

I tried my best to overcome it but to no avail. I then took some drastic steps, and I strongly recommend you do the same.

Guess what happened, as a result of taking those steps, when the result of that exam came out, I cleared my papers.

Karl Augustus Menninger said “Fears are educated into us, and can, if we wish, be educated
out.”

Confidence is the cure for doubt and fear, and it comes through knowledge and information. Doubts and fears on the other hand are as a result of what you don’t know.

In mine own case, I took the bull by the horn, I studied. You can’t have it any less. So, do the following, and you are guaranteed of victory over any form of fear or doubt, as you get ready for your ATS exam.

How to overcome your doubt and fear

1. Diligently maintain a daily study schedule. Give it a substantial time and don’t compromise it.

2. Surround yourself with motivational tapes and materials instead of materials that feeds your fears and doubts.

3. I always recommend that you look for ways of sharing with colleagues, what you already know about the subject matter. It is the greatest secrete of retaining knowledge.

4. Speak positively to yourself, assure yourself that you are capable of making it and you will.

5. Video lectures have proved to be highly effective in preparing for exams such as the one you are targeting. You’ll do yourself a great favour by getting them for your studies.

6. Last but not the least, think success!! Success!! and success!! all the way.

P.S: Doubt and fear is nothing to stop you, but you must eliminate it by taking certain actions, as Jim Ron said “Inaction breeds doubts and fear, action breeds confidence and courage.

At the beginning of last two month (December), I reviewed all my goals for the new year and realized that even though I have not achieved as much as I stated in my last new year resolution, yet I’m grateful.

Out of the 7 goals I planned to achieve last year, I have only achieved 1 and I failed at the remaining 6.

Initially I so was discouraged, but I decided to look inward and learn from my mistakes. So, I listed all the things that I have failed at last year, reviewed what went wrong and mapped out the possible solutions.

I decided to work on my failures by trying to achieve one more goal and just in the space of one month (January) I was able to achieve the goal.

For the month of Feburary, I have decided to achieve one more goal.


You too can still pick yourself up, learn from your failure and move on, since the year is still fresh.



Go ahead and try something new…….. Your success might depend on this last push.

Feeling Stuck in Your ICAN Exams Preparations?

found studying tough at one time or another.

Anxiety is our first reaction to stress as a person, but

particularly if we need to focus and think.


Instead of allowing that anxiety to overwhelm you and
distract you from focusing on your preparations,
Use it as a drive for your motivation.
All you just need to do is to first just take a deep breath….
and take a good walk. This will have a
soothing effect on the mind and body.

And then follow the steps below:

it is very necessary for your study guide.

Secondly, make sure you follow the blue print strictly without
leaving any gaps. If you can, add extra hours

Thirdly, strictly follow the video lectures because
this is not the time to start looking for extra materials for backups.

Fourthly, visit the member’s area and practice on as many
past questions as possible on every topic studied because
that is your major secret weapon for Exams success.

And lastly, request for the lecture summary notes to
enable you extract some important highlight points.
