A Nigerian man, Emenanka Onyebuchi, has returned to his old neighbourhood in Abia State to repay the debt he was owing his neighbour, a carpenter, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV reports that Onyebuchi, who graduated from Abia State University (ABSU) 20 years ago, said he wanted to surprise his old neighbours who helped him where he used to live as a student in Okigwe.

Narrating the event in a post sighted by Igbere TV on his Facebook wall, Onyebuchi said, “My mission was simple – to pay a surprise visit to my old neighbors, who are mostly local carpenters and petty traders”.

He narrated how he started living in the area, “I moved into that area sometime in 1998 and lived there till 2001 when I graduated. My brother Chiemezie Nwakanma was living there then and helped me secure the room. We were next-door neighbors. Iyke Aaron and Chizuru Kanu later joined us there.

“There is this particular carpenter who was so kind to me then. He would do my carpentry works free of charge and will lend me money whenever I was broke. I didn’t pay back most of those monies. The Mbano man was just nice to me and treated me like his own son.

“The man has a penchant for speaking high sounding grammar and we named him the Professor of Carpentology, a title he cherishes so much… Heheheheheheheh.

“17 years after, I stormed the place today and it was a big party. I ensured that there were drinks of different kinds and food to go round. All the carpenters stopped work to welcome their old neighbor. The women were not left out.

“I told them stories of how that carpenter assisted me greatly and without seeking any payback from me. I thanked all of them for the kindness and love they showed me then. They were all amazed that I could still remember all of that almost 20 years after.

“The carpenter had a set of male triplets while I lived there. They are all grown now and one of them works with him in his shop. He said the boy is brilliant but he has no money to train him in school. He lost his wife a few years ago.

“There and then, I announced that I will send him to the university and bear the cost of his training. The man broke down in tears. I told him that his son should get a better life than he had. I am fully committed to keeping that promise. I shall help secure admission for him and see him through school. Who knows? He may be the channel through which God will liberate the family from the vicious cycle of poverty and deprivation.

“It was a great day today as we drank and relived old times. I ensured that each of them got some small cash in their pockets.Image may contain: 2 people, people smiling, people standing

“Before I took my leave, they all asked me to kneel down while they said some prayers that touched my soul.

“I felt a deep sense of fulfillment today.”

PoliticsXenophobic Attacks: Please Forgive Us, South Africa Begs Zimbabwe by State001(op): 3:41pm On Sep 15, 2019
The South African government are now begging Zimbabweans to forgive them over the recent xenophobic attacks on foreign nationals in their country, Igbere TV reports.

This comes barely 24 hours after the country’s President, Cyril Ramaphosa, was booed by a crowd of Zimbabwe mourners at the funeral service of Robert Mugabe over the attacks.

“I stand before you as a fellow African to express my regret and apologise for what has happened in our country,” Ramaphosa had said while apologizing for the development in his condolence speech at the Zimbabwe National Sports Stadium.

In a show of remorse for the attacks in their country and resultant reprisals, South Africans have staged a peace walk and asked for forgiveness from other African nations.

Photos and footage in circulation on social media show thousands of South Africans marching in parts of the country to call for an end to attacks on foreign nationals.

The march is coming after hundreds of foreign nationals – including Nigerians and Zimbabweans – were forced to leave the country over the recent xenophobic attacks.

Meanwhile, following the humiliation he suffered at the hands of Zimbabweans during Mugabe’s funeral on Satruday, Ramaphosa has now taken steps to address the negative image the citizens of other countries currently have about South Africa.

A statement published on the official website of South Africa’s presidency on Sunday said Ramaphosa has appointed a special envoy to heads of African governments to convey his regret concerning the widely condemned attacks.

The statement obtained by Igbere TV, read;

“A team of Special Envoys appointed by President Cyril Ramaphosa have begun their assignment yesterday, 14 September 2019, and departed South Africa to deliver messages of solidarity to several Heads of State and Government across Africa,” the statement said.

“The team, comprising of Mr Jeff Radebe, Ambassador Kingsley Mmabolo and Dr. Khulu Mbatha, will visit Nigeria, Niger, Ghana, Senegal, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia.

“The Special Envoys will deliver a message from President Ramaphosa regarding the incidents of violence that recently erupted in some parts South Africa, which have manifested in attacks on foreign nationals and destruction of property.

“The Special Envoys are tasked with reassuring fellow African countries that South Africa is committed to the ideals of pan-African unity and solidarity. The Special Envoys will also reaffirm South Africa’s commitment to the rule of law.

“The Special Envoys will brief governments in the identified African countries about the steps that the South African government is taking to bring a stop to the attacks and to hold the perpetrators to account.”

PoliticsBiafra: ‘I Am Ready To Join IPOB, But...’ — Rochas Okorocha by State001(op): 8:45am On Sep 15, 2019
Senator Rochas Okorocha has hinted at the possibility of joining the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Igbere TV can report.

But Mr Okorocha said he will only join the group if its supreme leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, is able to convince him to do so.

The IPOB is a secessionist group that seeks a referendum for the independence of the Igbo ethnic group of Nigeria, and creation of a Biafran state.

Supporters of Biafran independence are from the Igbo, Izon (Ijaw), Anang, Igbanke (Edo), Ishekiri, Urhobo, Igala, Idoma and other ethnic groups within the map of defunct Biafra state.

IPOB claims that Biafrans are marginalized by the government in Abuja through lack of resource distribution, poor investment, and an unfair heavily militarized presence in their region.

The Nigerian government once cracked down on IPOB members who peacefully protested due to Kanu's arrest and incarceration despite various courts rulings for his release, reports Igbere TV.

Today, IPOB have metamorphosed from a group to a movement of the Indegenious Biafran population who are fed up with the Nigerian depleting state. Biafrans all over the world have identified with the movement, thereby making IPOB to be a face of Biafra restoration movement.

But Okorocha, immediate past Governor of Imo State, now Senator representing Imo North, said he is yet to truly understand what the group is looking for.

Okorocha, who admitted knowing members of the organisation, added it is his duty to have a chat with them as a father.

He, however, said that they must convince him on why he must join IPOB and where it is taking Igbos to.

“In the first place, IPOB is not different from other similar groups from other parts of the country, but it is just the packaging and name that have always been the problem,” he was quoted by The Sun.

“I don’t know what we plan to achieve by isolating ourselves from the rest of the country. And until IPOB answers the question, the leaders might not know how to handle it.

“When you say IPOB, are they trying to call for another sovereign nation? If they want to use this as a way of correcting certain injustices meted to the Igbo, then they should change the name to start with.

“When Oduduwa, Arewa or Niger Delta youths talk, they don’t call for a sovereign nation. For Igbo to become a country of their own, they have to think about the consequences.

“Personally, I don’t think it is good for the Igbo to become isolated from other nations and tribes in this country.

“Although the young men may have grievances, they should package them properly for the world to understand what they are fighting for.

“To be honest with you, I don’t know what IPOB is looking for till date. I don’t know what the agenda of IPOB are and where they are planning to take Ndigbo to.

“The leaders seem to have kept quiet for too long. As our children, we need to guild them and let them know that they cannot be talking about sovereignty within a nation.

“What programme do they have in the first place? What has IPOB done about the Igbo killed in South Africa? Is it not surprising that they have not done anything?

“I challenge all the Igbo to return from South Africa, India and other parts of the world, converge on Onitsha market and let us see what will happen.

“I don’t think the Igbo need IPOB at this point; it is rather a distraction that is not good for our political future. It might be the reason we are not doing well politically, yet we are adding more danger to it.

“They are our children; we love them and need to bring them closer. So, it is the failure of leadership in Igboland that should be blamed. We are not showing good leadership to these boys.

“They are children and look at how they attacked Ekweremadu, but how have the attack or threat to other political leaders solved the problem of Igbo in Nigeria?

“How has it corrected the problem of marginalisation of Igbo in Nigeria? They are beating up people in the name of IPOB in Owerri, Aba and other towns, but how has that solved the problem?

“I think IPOB is rather waging war against ourselves which should not be. I am looking forward to meeting with them anytime to address this issue and if they convince me, I will follow them and if I convince them, they should follow me.

“Can we have a meeting where the Igbo will meet with these IPOB, MASSOB and those other associations to find a common ground because whether they are bad, good or evil, they are our brothers, children, sons and daughters?

“I cannot lay claim that I don’t know them because they are Igbo and it is my duty to have a chat with them as a father. They must convince me on why I must join IPOB and where it is taking us to.

“I have told them to join APC because through APC, Igbo man might become president and if they have contrary view, they can look for alternative. IPOB needs to explain where they want to take Ndigbo to.”

PoliticsFemi Fani-Kayode: ‘Fulanis Are The Greatest Danger To Nigeria's Unity’ by State001(op): 6:52am On Sep 15, 2019
A former Minister of Aviation, Mr Femi Fani-Kayode, has alleged that Fulanis pose a danger to Nigeria's stability, peace and unity, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV reports that Fani-Kayode made the claims on his verified Twitter handle, @realFFK, on Saturday (yesterday).

He accused the group of having insatiable lust for power, alleging that President Muhammadu Buhari has Islamisation agenda for the country.

“The greatest danger to Nigeria's stability, peace and unity is the insolent and rappacious disposition and insatiable lust for power of the Fulani hegemonists coupled with the Fulanisation and Islamisation agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari”, he said.

“You cannot possibly comprehend the mindboggling mess that our country is in, let alone get us out of it, until you fully appreciate this fundamental and basic point. For the last 59 years as a nation we have been swimming in one big massive soakaway and the stench is unbearable”, Fani-Kayode added.

Politics2019 Election: All Atiku’s Witnesses Are In Buhari’s Favour, Says Tribunal by State001(op): 4:44pm On Sep 11, 2019
The Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Abuja, on Wednesday, declared that all the witnesses presented by Atiku Abubakar were in Buhari’s favour, Igbere TV reports.

This comes as the Tribunal dismissed most of the petitioner’s claims, insisting that the evidences they relied on, were actually in President Muhammadu Buhari’s favour.

“All the witnesses submitted by the petitioners (Atiku, PDP) were in favour of the respondent (Buhari, APC)”, said Justice Mohammed Garba, chairman of the five-man panel of justices.

On Atiku’s petition challenging Buhari’s academic qualification, the Tribunal said evidences brought to it by the PDP’s witnesses showed that Buhari was indeed qualified to contest the election.

“The petitioners have failed to discharge the burden of proof of the allegation of non-qualification or submission of false information which is fundamental in the aid of the 2nd respondent’s qualification”, the tribunal declared.

Justice Garba added, “I have no doubt in my mind that the petitioners have failed to prove that the second respondent does not possess the qualification to contest the election into the office of the President as stipulated in section 131, 137, 138 of the Constitution.

“I am also of the firm view that the petitioners have failed to prove that the second respondent submitted false information which is fundamental in nature to aid his qualification to contest the election into the Office of the President as prescribed in section 35(1) of the Evidence Act, 2011.

“I come to the conclusion and I resolve issues 1 and 2 against the petitioners,” he added.

He said “the 2nd defendant (Buhari) went through secondary education and then proceeded to military school, as evidently submitted by the petitioners witnesses.”

“The military school is higher than secondary education. A candidate is not required under the Electoral Act to attach his certificate to his Form CF001 before a candidate is adjudged to have the requisite qualification to contest the election” Justice Garba ruled.

Citing a previous Supreme Court judgment, the tribunal said “Submission of educational certificate is not a requirement for qualification to contest election for governor under section 177 Constitution.”

On the use of card readers, the Tribunal said, “Card reader machine has not replaced the voter register. A petitioner must rely on the card reader to prove non-accreditation or over-voting.”

The tribunal ruled that the evidence and report of PW59, witness 59 of the petitioners, cannot be relied on that there was indeed INEC server or servers, as the case may be, into which the results of the presidential election were transmitted.

“It is clear that the results were collated manually”, Justice Garba said.

“The evidence of the five witnesses who claimed that the results were transmitted electronically has no bearing on the requirement of proof expected of the petitioners. It is like a drop in the ocean.

“Electronic voting or transmission of results have no statutory backing. The mode of voting and collation of results have not changed from being manual since 2015”, said Justice Garba.

Justice Garba recalled the 2015 judgment of the Supreme Court which held that card readers were only recognised for use to authenticate the owner of the voter card.

The Presidential Tribunal sitting in Abuja, on Wednesday, stroke out the petition of Atiku Abubakar, alleging that the Feb. 23 presidential election was rigged in Buhari’s favour, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV recalls that the former vice president and his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had alleged that the national election was rigged by Buhari and his party, the APC.

But delivering judgement, the presiding judge, Justice Mohammed Garba, said the petitioners failed to prove their case beyond reasonable doubt.

The Presidential Tribunal, therefore, dismissed the petition for lacking merit.

Senator Dino Melaye has distanced himself from an alleged promise to give out 10 cars in the event that Atiku defeats Buhari at the Presidential Tribunal, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV reports that Melaye denied making the promise while reacting to a tweet from a ‘fake’ twitter account, on Wednesday.

The tweet came ahead of the Tribunal’s expected delivery of a final verdict in the suit brought before it by Atiku, who is challenging the victory of Buhari in the February 23 presidential election.

The tweet from the fake account (@DinoMelaye_) reads: “During the elections, I said if Atiku won, I’d give out 100 cars.

“Today, the tribunal results will be announced. It doesn’t seem like a bad time to give out 10 Honda Pilot vehicles. Retweet and comment the color you would like. I will select randomly. #SDM”

Igbere TV recalls that Buhari who, according to INEC, defeated Atiku in the February 23 election, is being dragged before the tribunal where it is being alleged that the president was not academically qualified to vie for the office.

PoliticsAtiku Vs Buhari: Summary & Key Rulings To Note As Tribunal Goes On Break by State001(op): 2:43pm On Sep 11, 2019
The Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal is currently sitting in Abuja, to decide the fate of PDP/Atiku and APC/Buhari over the February 23, 2019 presidential election, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV recalls that INEC had declared Buhari and the APC as winner of the election, having polled a total of 15,191,847 votes to defeat his closest rival, Atiku, who it said polled a total of 11,262,978 votes.

The five-man panel of justices of the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal, is headed by Justice Mohammed Garba, as Chairman.

Here are summary of the rulings so far, and key points to note, as brought to you by Igbere TV...

Key rulings to note

- Tribunal unanimously dismissed INEC’s motion asking Vice President Osinbajo to be joined in the petition. It ruled that a vice presidential candidate is not a necessary party in an election petition but an appendage of the presidential candidate who nominated him.

- Tribunal dismissed INEC's motion arguing that Atiku's lead counsel, Livy Uzoukwu, is not a legal practitioner called to the Nigerian Bar.

- Tribunal refused INEC's request to dismiss Atiku's prayer seeking Buhari's disqualification on the ground that he was not qualified to contest the election.

- Ruling on the allegations of police and military interference, harassment and intimidation and ballot stuffing among others, filed by Atiku, the tribunal strike out the application for non-joinder of the parties who have been accused.

- Tribunal dismissed Buhari's application that Atiku was not qualified to file the petition challenging his election, ruling that Atiku is qualified to filed the petition.

- Tribunal dismissed Atiku's application accusing Vice President Yemi Osinbajo of inducing voters with the TraderMoni scheme, ruling that it does not have jurisdiction over the matter.

- Tribunal strike out APC's argument that Atiku was not qualified to contest the presidential election because he is allegedly not a Nigerian by birth.
* It ruled that its power does not include determining the qualification of a petitioner in an election dispute, but to determine whether a person elected to the office of the president was validly elected and not to query the qualification of the petitioners to have contested the election, whose outcome was being queried.

Summary of the rulings so far

INEC filed three motions against Atiku's petition; one of the motions was dismissed while two partially succeeded leading to the striking out of some paragraphs in the petitioners’ petition and their response to INEC’s reply to the petition.

- President Buhari filed two motions against Atiku's petition; two of the motions partially succeeded leading to the striking out of some paragraphs in the petitioner's response to the president’s reply to the petition.

- The last two motions were filed by APC.

PoliticsIPOB Plans To Attack Buhari In Japan: Abike Dabiri Reacts by State001(op): 10:11am On Aug 26, 2019
The Presidency has reacted to the plan by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to attack President Muhammadu Buhari in Tokyo, Japan, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV had reported that IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, gave an order for his members to attack the Nigerian leader who is participating in the 7th Tokyo International Conference on African Development.

Kanu in a letter obtained by Igbere TV, had written to his Imperial Majesty of the most esteemed and revered throne of Chrysanthemum, Emperor Naruhito of Japan, informing him of the plan.

He said the IPOB will not only disgrace but also arrest President Muhammadu Buhari who allegedly died long ago in January 2017 and buried in Saudi Arabia.

According to him, IPOB planned campaign of public arrest of the “impostor” in Tokyo is directed at Jubril Al-Sudani “the fake President of Nigeria”, not Buhari who he said died long ago in January 2017 and buried in Saudi Arabia.

“The Japanese authorities we know are best placed to unravel and confirm the true identity of Jubril”, Kanu stated.

Members of the IPOB were seen flying into Japan from different part of the world, ahead of the President’s arrival, in exclusive photos obtained by Igbere TV on Monday.

Reacting, Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDComm), Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said the plan to attack Buhari in Japan by IPOB was not only careless, but disrespectful.

Dabiri-Erewa, who spoke on Monday in an exclusive interview with Lagos FM, threatened to be be ruthless on IPOB members if they dare carry out their threat.

“The call to attack President Buhari in Japan by Nnamdi Kanu is not just careless but also disrespectful to the core. Who does he think he is? If his group tries anything in Japan, I personally will take it upon myself to see that they are dealt with this time around.

“We are yet to forgive them on the assault on Senator Ike Ekweremmadu (in Germany) and they are planning to disrupt the President’s visit in Japan”, she stated.

Igbere TV had reported that Buhari on Sunday, ignored Nnamdi Kanu’s threat and departed Nigeria for Japan to participate in the 7th Tokyo International Conference on African Development.

Recall that the IPOB leader (Kanu) had issued a standing order to his members to attack the Nigerian leader anywhere they see him in Japan.

Kanu in a letter sighted by Igbere TV, also wrote to his Imperial Majesty of the most esteemed and revered Throne of Chrysanthemum, Emperor Naruhito of Japan, informing him of the move.

He said the IPOB will only disgrace and arrest President Muhammadu Buhari who allegedly died long ago in January 2017 and buried in Saudi Arabia.

Members of the IPOB are seen prepared and battle ready awaiting the President's arrival, in exclusive photos obtained by Igbere TV on Monday.
