President Muhammadu Buhari has moved to suspend from office, Mrs. Winifred Ekanem Oyo-Ita, the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Igbere TV reports.

This comes barely 24 hours after the President suspended Barr Okoi Obono-Obla, Chairman of the Special Presidential Investigation Panel on the Recovery of Public Property, over alleged corrupt practices and falsification of certificates.

Already, the Civil Service Boss had been interrogated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over alleged N3 billion contract scam.

Igbere TV gathered that Mrs Oyo-Ita was grilled for straight four days by the anti-graft agency, beginning from Thursday, August 8, 2019.

About N600 million is said to have been traced to the account of one of her aides, who has been unable to give any justifiable explanation for it.

After a four-day non-stop grilling during which she was in the Abuja custody of the EFCC, Mrs Oyo-Ita landed in a private hospital in Jabi area of Abuja, due to ‘shocks’.

But an official of the EFCC said she was only granted administrative bail for urgent medical attention, adding that she is expected back for further interrogation.

According to the official, the anti-graft agency uncovered funds linked to the Civil Service Boss while probing the activities of a former Minister under who she served as Permanent Secretary.

He said the EFCC had already blocked the indicted account and has begun the process of obtaining an interim forfeiture order from the court, to seize the cash.

He added that detectives from the EFCC, Abuja office, were able to establish that the N3 billion was illegally obtained through falsification of Duty Tour Allowances and estacodes.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that she (Oyo-Ita) used different proxies and non-existent companies to obtain contracts from Ministries, Departments and Agencies from 2015 till date”, he said.

“While tracing embezzlement by the ex-Minister, detectives stumbled on diversion of funds into these proxy companies which the Head of Service has relationship with.

“The startling revelations made detectives to dig further into her activities as a Permanent Secretary (to the ex-Minister) and Head of Service”, the EFCC official added.

Mrs. Winifred Ekanem Oyo-Ita is a former key official of the defunct Petroleum Trust Fund, PTF, where she worked under President Muhammadu Buhari, the then Head of the agency.

She was appointed as the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation in acting capacity in October 2015 and confirmed in January 2016 by President Muhammadu Buhari.

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos, Joe Igbokwe, has lambasted Motorbike hailing service, GoKada, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV had reported that operators of GoKada, on Wednesday, said they were shutting down operations temporarily to restrategize and rebrand.

Igbere TV gathered that the move comes after the CEO and co-founder, Fahim Saleh, faced operational hurdles during a ride in the Lagos metropolis.

Narrating his ordeal in a social media post sighted by Igbere TV, Saleh said he was disappointed when a trip of 5 minutes turned out to take more than 15 minutes from the Mainland Bridge to Victoria Island.

According to him, the GoKada rider took a longer route to get to the bridge, “one that would have completely avoided had he used the map”.

But reacting, Igbokwe, a Commissioner-designate of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, mocked GoKada for investing $5.3 million in what he described as mere Okada business.

Suggesting that Lagos State has hand in the challenges facing the company, the APC Lagos spokesman added that 'Okada' business was not sustainable in the commercial city.

“Instead of partnering with govt on BRT, you invested "5.3 million dollars" in Okada business and expect that Lagos state will allow you jeopardise its muliti-billion naira mass transit investments”, he said.

“Call it 'bike-hailing start up' or whatever, okada na okada... it is not sustainable in a city of high density population Lagos”, Igbokwe wrote on Facebook.

Some Nigerians have however disagreed with the APC Spokesman with many tongue lashing him, insisting that he was allowing partisan politics overshadow his sense of judgement.

The Federal Government has demanded a probe into the killing of Mr Joseph Nwajueze, a Nigerian pastor based in China, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV reports that the Anambra-born clergyman was reportedly killed by Chinese security operatives.

In a statement made available to Igbere TV on Wednesday, Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman, Nigerians in the Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), said a thorough investigation into the death of the pastor should be launched.

She added that the killing of the pastor must be thoroughly investigated and the culprits brought to book.

In the statement which was signed by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, her media aide, Dabiri-Erewa said there was no justifiable reason for the killing.

She equally condemned the “stigmatisation” of Nigerians living in China, saying those who were found guilty of the country’s laws should be prosecuted.

While condoling with the family of Nwajueze, the Nigerian official promised to ensure that justice is served.

She, however, appealed to angry Nigerians in China to be patient and not take the law into their hands.

Igbere TV reports that the deceased was living with his wife, Chinwe and four children in China until his death.

He was said to be killed by China’s security operatives while trying to escape arrest for alleged visa violations.

President Muhammadu Buhari has suspended Barr Okoi Obono-Obla, Chairman of the Special Presidential Investigation Panel on the Recovery of Public Property (SPIP), from office, Igbere TV reports.

In a statement obtained by Igbere TV on Wednesday, the President directed the embattled official to proceed to answer questions from the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

Igbere TV gathered that Obono-Obla is to face probe over allegations of certificate forgery and other corruption-related matters levelled against him.

President Buhari said the SPIP boss remains suspended pending the outcome of the investigation by ICPC.

A letter signed by the Secretary to Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, added that the Solicitor General of the Federation, Dayo Apata, would take charge of the panel on recovery of public property till further notice.

“President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the suspension from office, with immediate effect, of the Chairman of the Special Investigation Panel for the Recovery of Public Property, Mr Okoi Obono-Obla.

“The suspension shall be in effect until the conclusion of ongoing ICPC investigations into a number of cases relating to Mr. Obono-Obla”, the statement partly read.

The Federal Government has reacted to the allegations raised by Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), better known as Shiites, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV reports that the cleric had alleged that the Indian government had connived with the American and Nigerian government to “frustrate” his treatment.

In a viral audio obtained by Igbere TV on Wednesday, the IMN leader said the situation in India was worse than that of Nigeria, alleging he was was being kept in a facility worse than the Kirikiri prison in Lagos.

But reacting in a statement obtained by Igbere TV, Wednesday night, the Federal Government said El-Zakzaky was misbehaving rather than cooperate with the Indian authorities.

The FG said the embattled Muslim cleric wanted to check into a five-star hotel in India rather than the hospital he was billed for.

The statement which was signed by Mrs Grace Gekpe, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information, added that the IMN leader had violated the terms under which the Kaduna High Court allowed him travel.

Gekpe said El-Zakzaky demanded to have his passport for free movement and also be allowed to receive all visitors unscreened.

According to her, the Indian authorities wanted to return El-Zakzaky and wife back to Nigeria, but for the quick intervention of the Nigerian government.

“The Court on 5th August, 2019 granted Sheikh Ibraheem EL-Zakzaky leave to travel to India for medical treatment. Consequently, the Government and its relevant agencies took steps to comply with the Order.

“In line with the Court Order, El-Zakzaky was approved to embark on the trip with State officials and his choice to be accompanied by his aides and personal Doctors was not opposed by the government.

“On 12th August, 2019, he and other members of the entourage went to India via Dubai. It is to be noted that El-Zakzaky particularly chose Medanta Hospital, India. However, on reaching Dubai, El-Zakzaky began to display ulterior motives against laid down procedures.

“He requested that his passport be handed over to him but the State officials would not budge to his pressure. The situation became worse in India as he refused to subject himself to preliminary medical checks.

„In addition, he demanded free movement and access to visitors of all kinds as well as requested to be allowed to check into a 5-Star Hotel instead of being admitted in the hospital. The request was refused on the ground that he came into the country for medicals and not as a tourist (more so that his Visa was issued on medical grounds and not for tourism). He also demanded that Police protection be withdrawn from him by the Indian authorities.

“Against medical ethics and standard practice, he requested to nominate Doctors of his choice to join the ones tasked by Medanta Hospital to perform medical treatment on him and his wife. This created a stalemate, which the Hospital insisted that he would not dictate to it on the choice of medical personnel to carry the required medical treatment.

“Frustrated by his antics, the Indian authorities have expressed willingness to return him to Nigeria with immediate effect. This is on the account that they will not allow him use their country to internationalize his group’s activities.

“Against this background, the Nigerian government wishes to commend the stand of the Indian Government as well as apologize to her for the unruly behaviour of El-Zakzaky. Similarly, the attention of the public and indeed the international community is hereby drawn to these unfortunate developments.

“The government also wishes to use this opportunity to affirm its readiness to undertake the prosecution of El-Zakzaky through due process if and when he is returned to the country. On this note, his foul cry that he is being held in circumstances worse than he was in Nigeria should be disregarded.”

The Nigeria Army, on Saturday, said it has dismissed an officer accused of raping a student of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State at a military checkpoint, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV reports that the Army also said it had handed over the suspect to the Ondo State Police Command for prosecution.

The victim, a 300-level student of the Department of Religious and African Studies, was allegedly gang-raped by soldiers attached to 32 Artillery Brigade, inside a shed at the checkpoint, while the student was returning from school.

But the military said the earlier report was false, revealing that the student was raped by one of the soldiers, according to its investigations.

Igbere TV recalls that the Commander of the 32 Artillery Brigade, Akure, Brig. Gen. Zakari Abubakar, had earlier promised to transfer the case to the police after the accused soldier must have been sacked and the investigation concluded.

He had since confirmed that the culprit, Lance Corporal Adelola, had been tried and sacked before he was formally handed over to the police.

“He has been sacked from service and he has been transferred to the police for prosecution. The army does not tolerate indiscipline”, he said.

The Ondo State Police Spokesman, Femi Joseph, who confirmed the development, said the suspect would soon be charged to court.

”I can confirm to you that the (former) soldier has been handed over to us, we will soon charge him to court,” Joseph said.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday in Daura, Katsina State, received in audience, Prof. Alpha Conde, President of Guinea, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV reports that Buhari is currently in his hometown for the Eid-El-Kabir celebrations.

The visiting President, Igbere TV gathered, will attend the Eid prayers with President Buhari on Sunday and be treated to the traditional Durbar display at the palace of the Emir of Daura, Dr. Faruk Umar Faruk.

Igbere TV further learnt that President Conde will be conferred with a traditional title by the Daura Emirate.

Some fierce looking soldiers, on Saturday, stormed Ijegun, Lagos, over the detention of two policemen, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV had reported that angry youth in the community were holding the officers hostage at the palace of their paramount ruler.

This followed the killing of a female trader by a bullet reportedly fired by the security operatives who were chasing some suspected internet fraudsters.

Igbere TV gathered that the trader was pronounced dead at the hospital she was taken to after the incident.
She was said to be pregnant with her first child.

The operatives reportedly fled the scene upon learning of her death but youth in the community held two of them.

Some of the policemen who escaped, Igbere TV learnt, later returned with the soldiers.

As the youth gathered around a bonfire in front of the palace where the officers were being detained, the soldiers and the returning cops charged at them.

“They started pelting the security operatives with stones and bottles but the soldiers fired into the air to disperse the aggrieved youth”, a witness told Igbere TV.

“The soldiers and some policemen moved into the palace of the traditional ruler. After some minutes, they left without the policemen who had gone in with them”, he added.

Igbere TV further learned that the officers are currently stationed at strategic locations within the palace in Ijegun.

Contacted, the Lagos State Police Spokesman, Bala Elkana, said the officers involved were Anti-Kidnapping operatives and not men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

He added that there was still tension in the area but that a police team had been deployed in the axis to restore sanity.

“They were Anti-Kidnap, not SARS operatives. We don’t have the details of what happened for now. But the mob has killed one policeman and injured two. The area is still tense. But we are handling it”, Elkana said.

The Lagos State Police Command, on Saturday, said a policeman was killed with two others seriously injured in the Ijegun incident, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV had earlier reported that operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, shot dead a shop owner, Biliki, in the Ijegun area of Lagos.

The operatives had reportedly open fire on a suspect who resisted arrest, only for the bullet to hit Biliki, who was in her shop.

The incident led to angry mob seizing one of the fleeing officers and insisted that he must be killed in return.

Our correspondent learned that the mobbed policeman was taken to the palace of the traditional ruler in Ijegun, where a crowd of angry youths requested to lynch him.

The Lagos State Police Spokesman, Bala Elkana, who confirmed the incident, said the officers involved were Anti-Kidnapping operatives and not men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, on Saturday, confirmed that there was indeed attempts to hack his official Twitter account, @ProfOsinbajo, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV had reported unusual activities on the VP’s handle on Friday night, amid speculation that the account had been compromised.

Checks by our correspondent late Friday showed that Twitter had unverified the account, with the usual blue tick missing.

Further checks also showed that all tweets have since been deleted with his profile picture and header image taken down.

Findings by Igbere TV revealed that the account which no longer shows up in search results, was suspended, retrieved and unverified in less than 24 hours.

Speaking through his Spokesman, Laolu Akande, Osinbajo said there were failed attempts to gain access to the account, adding that efforts were on the way to retrieve it.

“Yesterday, there were failed external attempts to gain unauthorized access to the Vice President’s Twitter Account”, he said.

“Since, we have been in contact with Twitter, securing the account, and forestalling a reoccurrence. The VP will continue to actively communicate with our citizens”, Akande added.

An ally of President Muhammadu Buhari and ministerial nominee, Dr Osagie Ehanire, has declared that he joined politics due to his love for the president.

Igbere TV reports that Ehanire made the declaration when he appeared before the Senate for screening, on Friday.

According to the medical doctor, who is also one of the ministerial designates for Edo State, he got into politics because of the vision of President Buhari.

The nominee said the Buhari government has done a lot in the health sector. “The immunisation coverage has increased,” he says to buttress his point.

When asked what can be done to enhance Nigeria's healthcare, Ehanire said the current administration has introduced commendable policies in the health sector and that “only 20 per cent of primary health care centres were functional when it came in.”

On his part, Senator Matthew Urhoghide (PDP, Edo) said considering the nominee's antecedents and qualifications, he should take a bow and go.

But some of his colleagues protested the idea and told Ehanire to take more question.

Speaking further, Ehanire said he agrees that health insurance is not right, saying, however, that he was very optimistic of the future.

“There is a bill which has already been brought before this Senate which will correct that.

“The malaria deaths are actually in decline statistically. There has been significant improvements in the fatalities that come from malaria”, he added.

“The ratio of what was being spent on primary healthcare and tertiary healthcare prevailed before 2015 but it has balanced out now.”

Popular critic of the President Muhammadu Buhari led Federal Government, Reno Omokri, has declared that Leah Sharibu is not dead, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV reports that Sharibu, a Christian, is one of the schoolgirls kidnapped in Dapchi, Yobe State last year by Boko Haram terrorists.

Grace Taku, an aid worker kidnapped in Borno State on July 18, made a claim that the victim had been killed in a video released by the insurgents on Wednesday.

According to Grace, who works with Action Against Hunger, Leah and some other people were killed because of the inability of the Federal Government to save them.

Reacting on Friday, however, the former presidential aide in a Tweet @RenoOmokri, obtained by Igbere TV, said the Christian girl was still alive and not dead.

“I’ve been informed by 2 journalists with access to Boko Haram that the faction claiming Leah is dead is NOT the one that abducted and holds her. I‘m told Leah is ALIVE. I put aside my differences with Gen @MBuhari and VOW not to oppose him going forward if he‘ll #FreeLeahSharibu”, he wrote.

The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has ordered the immediate beef-up of security in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Igbere TV gathered that the order came on the heels of intelligence report that members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) were planning massive protests across the country.

The IMN, better known as Shiites, had in recent times had several clash with the police over the continual detention of their leader, El-Zakzaky, by the Federal Government. The last protest led to the death of a Police Deputy Commissioner and a Corps member with Channels TV, Abuja.

In a statement obtained by Igbere TV which was signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, the IGP’s order came “in the face of series of violent protest and unrest by members of the El-Zakzaky group in the FCT.”

“Meanwhile, the IGP has assured citizens that proactive measures including aerial surveillance of major cities have been emplaced to ensure the safety and security of lives and property of all Nigerians.

“In addition, Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) and Commissioners of Police (CPs) nationwide have been mandated to ensure customized security arrangements are put in place in their Area of Responsibilities (AORs) to checkmate the activities of criminals and any possible threat to public peace.

“The IGP has further advised all would-be protesters to ensure they express their grievances within the ambit of the law so as not to infringe on the constitutional rights of other citizens or cause breach of public peace”, the statement added.

The police, however, urged citizens to be wary of circulating unsubstantiated security advisories capable of creating undue fear, panic and apprehension in the country.
