Gayigaskia: You think you are being sarcastic here but it seems, you don't know sh**t. That business back in the early 90's was very lucrative. Of course its not that anymore a lot of people who were doing got so much wealth in it. And i wouldn't mind doing if it was still profitable. All the best then, just make the best decision, i wish you goodluck |
hardbody: The two of you are raving mad. I graduated from Unical In Nigeria, I have lived and worked here all my life, the few occasions i have had the desire to travel, i have come out there (UK not US oo) to spend money riding on the back of my sponsors, my Company. I have no plans of trying to confirm how right or wrong either of you are. You failed here and you relocated. I want to prove a point to you guys, that you can sure make it here if you are focused and work hard enough.Mr local government chairman, please answer the questions below; 1. Whose money are you using to do those things aforementioned? Definately not your own hard earned money cos you are a politician and we all know politicians are theives 2.You are wise enough to state what u've done for your community which i do commend only if it were true, kindly state the local government where you are serving and if possible your name, so we can confirm. 3.Stats don't lie, over 80% of Nigerian youths wants to leave this country cos of your failure, you said you are fixing lights, do residents enjoy 24hrs light in your area? How good is the road? water supply? Education? Job opportunities?... In your community and Nigeria at large? If you follow this thread you'll know better that no one is trying to preach another man's land, no one will desire to leave nigeria if it is well developed enough, naija is a failed country. Since i was born, even before i was born we've not been able to acheive the primary things like good roads, electricity, quality education, good leadership... Its still this same thing our politicians preaches when campaigning, same they will preach come 2015, a country with no realistic hope for the younger generations, many corpers released into the labour market with no realistic employment, cos we have a failed leadership, and you are part of them if your claims are true, and you have the guts to brag of your various sojourn to europe here. Next time before you type think with your brain, but what will you expect from someone whose IQ is the same as his shoe size? |
Gayigaskia: I live in MD in case you don't know this governor has really made everything so high, from fuel taxes to alcohol and all toll rd taxes everything when up. Oh not to mention property taxes, as a result many are moving to Pennsylvanian to live and work in MD.I think the OP lives or once lived in MD, have been there before, have some relatives there too. So many blacks and Nigerians live there and its a fairly Ŋĭcέ place, as per the governor what do you expect, he's a .... |
justwise: When are you moving back to Nigeria?Lol! You're not Ŋĭcέ. Come back to Nigeria and start driving tokunbo 4rm cotonou to kano? Guess, America is way way better |
Gayigaskia: My man i used to drive tokumbo from Cotonou to Kano and Abuja thru Niger Republic after i graduated from Kad Poly. trust me here in the US the government extort money from you all the time. after all my governor is called Martin O'malleyLmao! What has your governors name to do with the states exorting your money via taxes. So you live in MD, glad 2 know |
adconline: I hate when people say this. Live within ur means. Don't buy a 2014 BMW X6 because your neighbor has it. Buy a used 2006 car and pay it in full. Don't live in a $500k home, go for $150k and pay 20-30% down. Don't finance ur lifestyle because your friends and co-workers are doing it and it shall be well with u.Don't think you live in America or you know about America judging from your post. Except you want to be debt ridden then you can go for every fancy, latest and extravagant things you like or come across. Even the indigenes i mean the full blooded americans that by default have better opportunities and advantages than you have are frugal and disciplined for them to succeed, excluding those born with silver spoons, ask bill gates, mark zuckerburg, warren buffet their success stories and many more. For an average Man to make it in life you must be purposeful and have a savings, also discipline and denial matters. You don't just buy or eat all goodies your eyes deem fit if you are not very wealthy. Not even in america where you'll find attractive thingsI think the rich are more disciplined than the poor cos they spend mostly on what will make them richer. So bro, frugality is the key to success, save and save for the raining days, by doing so you helping yourself, you'll be the one to reap the benefits, your children will benefit from it. A word is enough for the wise. Moreover, if you like go for 2014 range rover, luxury home and other exotic and luxury things, except if you are from a wealthy home or very weathy on your own, i mean annual salary above 350grand, then you'll live to tell the story, i know of a family here in Naija, the man earns over 200k monthlY, the wife not working, he has children many(over 5 in number) but he spends lavishly, clubs, cars, women, alcohol... Suddenly he got sick and died, he has nothing to show for except the house he was building for over 6years and not yet completed, i just pity the poor young children, what will they say about their father, Irresponsible is the word. He bought a car of about 8million, that can buy 3 good cars in naija, i ask my self whatl for? They have sold the car now, for the family upkeep. Life is all about choices, so its ya'choice to live whichever way you like, you'll live to tell the story, or someone will tell your story when you're gone, only which story will they talk about? |
Trey knowles: Is it advisable to study for d first degree here in Nigeria? Or to start everything in u.s. Which one is more valuableFirst degree gives you an edge, you can further thereafter in the states. Its very much easier for a highschool graduate in the state to admitted into college than for you without a first degree maybe with just your o'levels, hope you gat ma point? |
Ajibel: @babyosisi,,, I have a bff who wants to study medicine (paediatrics) in the states... Can you (or anyone) suggest some schools she can attempt please. Thanks in anticipation. I'm making my findings too, buh it maybe easier to hear from you (or others)Compared to any part of the world, America has one of the best medical colleges, the least medical college in America is better than any in Nigeria. There are several and many medical colleges from John Hopkins, to harvard, newyork university, university of chicago, university of pittsburg, just do your research well, the only problem is the cost, tuition is as much as 50grand in some places, the least should be around 20,000dolls, but he or she can get schorlarship through SAT's and some other means. The tuition fee is fucking expensive. Considered studying medicine in the states too, before i opted out, i am a medical student in Nigeria, but sometimes when i am dreaming i do see myself bagging a john hopkins university MBBS degree. And another thing, the best brains get admitted into these universities, also they admit a few and nothing short of the best |
Trey knowles: And how many years before one can be a doctor cause i read a blog dat it takes close to twelve yearsThat's very true, especially if you are lucky, intelligent and smart, it may be more than 12years or less, cos you'll write various exams, various stages/levels/phases you'll have to pass thru, especially for an outsider, its more difficult, but you can do it, its a matter of determination. There is one examination you'll write in Africa too, so its a long process, but in the end, its worth it! Cos of the pay, but i don't think i can dabble into that, i'll advise have your MBBS degree first in Nigeria or somewhere else, then you can start applying for international professional exams in whichever area you wanna specialise in. With a first degree in MBBS or any related fields you won't spend up to 12 years |
Gayigaskia: I live in America for the past 15 years, i make good salary my wife is a RN we have 3 kids, and sometimes we struggle for cash. That situation scares me a lot because our kids are young and really i don't want to live like this having high blood pressure wahala all the time. The problem with America is you don't really own anything, everything is bills on top of that there always things that eat up your savings. ie: charges from late fees, speeding tickets, insurance copays and so on. When you compare to your friends in Africa, they have not many worries as far as kids are concern since you don't have to for baby sitting ; you will have a aunt, cousin, niece to do the home works for you, everything you own is owned straight up , there is no monthly payments wahala. If you are able to open your own business or secure a decent job in Nigeria, it would be way better than living in America.I understand your state of mind, but i personally think migrating to the States is αℓωαчs better for those who are single, or lemme say you αlσиє until you are financially stable, raising up children, having a spouse is a hell lotta responsibility especially if you are not that owkay or lemme say still managing. The best thing to do in this kindaa situation is to cut your coat according to your size, manage your resources and invest in essentials and profitable things. Notwithstanding, if you are young, abled, hardworking and disciplined, don't think anything can stop you from thriving and making it/succeeding in the states. America is a land of opportunities, just set your targets and goals right and work towards it. |
wow! So happy this thread is on the fp, osisi we gatz celebrate this, probably after the myriads of questions that will be thrown at you |
xynerise: Are you insulting me?Bros, nah fight? Polite insults please! Do not derail |
spikes C: sup, missed yaMissed ya too, av been kindaa busy! |
Cathaliya: You are f*cking wicked with wordsSeconded, funny thread i must say |

Nomski0: You failed.........just like your dad's condom. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
babyosisi: I also heard scary stories about childbirth but did that keep me away from the maternity wards ?Don't know when i did hit the like button, but i must say, this is a priceless advice. |
Naija got talent! Great innovation, kudos to the boys |
Don't understand why some have dcided to attack the OP's personality by calling him a kid, don't think a 21year old is a kid. Read through all the pages, and all i can point out is that the OP is not trying to discourage Nigerians from travelling to the States nor is he trying to paint Nigerians and other blacks thriving in the states bad, but he is just giving those who wanna come over a proper orientation of what to expect, doing so in a pragmatic way. This thread is like a debate, not every one will agree with his point of view. Not every one will think in same line with him, but the bulk of what he said is the truth backed up with facts that's if you see it from his point of view. What the T.V paints about America is not the real America you get that's for someone trying to start a life. Hussle, and make a living, the start is αℓωαчs rough especially if you know no one, And another major thing is that there is no basis of comparism between Nigeria and the states, our country is just 53 years old while America is close to 200years, don't think the OP is trying to compare both countries either. I have been to the states on 3 different occasions, got siblings and relatives there and trust me i know a lot about the states. To survive and make sense there below are some things that will help: Preparation- Get well prepared, be fully informed. Outline your goals work towards it, mix with people that can help you become succesful not the ones that will mar your stay and get you in trouble. Discipline- you need to show a high level of discipline, many things are attractive there and tempting which if you are not careful will land you into serious debt. Cut your clothe according to your size, save and invest somewhere else. Hardwork- work hard, work hard and work hard. Lazy people can never survive in america, most times you are on your own, hard work pays If we put same efforts we apply to survive in america, poverty will be far gone in Nigeria. America brings the best in people cos its so fuxking competitive. No one needs to borrow you sense or tell you what to do before you know whatz up, cos every one around you IS̶̲̥̅ thriving to survive and make it or better still live the american dream, with so much accrued debts, you will learn to work harder to catch up. |

Personally, i think the perrcentage of those who will deactivate their account is not up to 0.5% of the entire nairaland population. Reasons below; Firstly, more than half of the total number of members indicated on the home screen are no more active or not existing as far as nl is concerned. Seun, is a very wise guy: some cliche of nairalanders were clamouring for the delete button but he offered them the de-activation button, the delete button will delete all your details, erase your username, your posts and topics..but the deactivation button will only render your account useless to you, you will only be unable to log-in, but your history can be easily retrieved. Obviously some do not understand the difference. And the giant move he made that i personally respect the most is that the deactivate your account button can be found in the edit my profile, i.e its hidden. Majority will not know about it, personally i feel it should be in the same line with the login, new, trending...links on the home page, but considering the consequence involved and the risk, if i were in his shoes ad done same. There is no major awareness, no topic about it on the frontpage, just few nairalanders clamouring for it are being awared, obviously the owner do not want you to leave. Lastly, why will anyone want to leave nairaland, personally, i think its a great forum, great invention and innovation, its fun to be, ♈έڪ some mods are a thorn in the flesh, but that's part of the fun, there are rules there to be obeyed and somehow, we can't just all do what we like, on-line bullying do affect some, nairaland covers all aspects of life, dats what the sections are there for, you wanna get a good laff, come to nairaland, we have different characters, different opinions, comedians and psycos... You wanna be current, informed..u'll find all hia Conclusively, the numbers of members will continue to increase, seuns move is just to shut the noise makers mouth-up, my tought though! |
