Taraba State political crisis has entered another phase with Hajia Hauwa, the wife of Governor Danbaba Suntai, called on members of the State House of Assembly not to impeach her ailing husband. This development followed the commencement of signatures collecting by the legislators for the impeachment of the governor, as the legislators understood Mr. Danbaba is not fit enough to resume duty, despite being treated in hospitals for about 10 months. The legislators began the impeachment move on August 28, 2013, after the governor announced the dissolution of the state cabinet through his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Sylvanus Giwa. According to sources, earlier today Hauwa got wind of the impeachment move and quickly arranged for the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Haruna Tsokwa, and a few other legislators to visit the governor. It should also be noted that Hauwa did not allow the Speaker or the Acting Governor, Garba Umar, to have audience with Governor Suntai since he was brought back to Nigeria on August 25, 2013, Sunday. However, Hauwa's intervention has small chances to succeed, as, reportedly, most of the legislators have already signed the impeachment notice. What really angered the legislators was the allegedly stage-managed video of Suntai's purported broadcast to the people of the state. Taraba residents were also annoyed, said there was nothing like a live broadcast by the ailing governor as reported by a section of the media, adding that it was a stage-managed recorded tape that the state owned television station broadcast on August 28, 2013. According to sources, the swearing in of the new Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Timothy Kataps, was also stage-managed as none of the documents pertaining to his swearing in was signed by the Commissioner for Oaths. http://pmnewsnigeria.com/2013/08/29/gov-suntais-wife-begs-legislators/

About 20 youths of the vigilante group populalry known as Civilian JTF were killed in separate attacks in Bama and Damasak towns of Borno State by insurgents suspected to be Boko Haram members. A local official who attended a mass funeral for the victims in Bama on Monday said 14 vigilantes were killed there on Sunday, Reuters reported. According to a Daily Trust correspondent, in the Damasak incident, 6 vigilantes were killed yesterday. The victims in the Damasak attack were identified as Ismail Alhaji Bunu (36), Malam Goni (27), Buzu Bukar (27), Mohammed Modu (20), Aliyu Jibrin (30) and Bukar Bako (20). Local vigilante groups run by youth volunteers have been instrumental in helping the military capture Boko Haram members, but they have also made them a target for the insurgents, drawing civilians further into the conflict. Alhaji Baba Shehu Gulumba, chairman of Bama local council, told Reuters in Maiduguri that insurgents disguised as soldiers lured the youths into a trap. "They were on guard duty when the sect members dressed in military camouflage came and told them that they were needed at a meeting nearby," he said. "When they had been lured away from their duty posts they were then attacked and killed." Our correspondent gathered that five of the victims in the Damasak raid were jewelry traders and a driver who was conveying them to the town's market. A member of the vigilante, Kariyama Mohammed, who also went to Damasak but did not pass the night in the same house with the victims said, "We travelled together to Damasak to trade in necklace but I did not sleep in the same house with them. It was in the morning that I learn of their death." Another resident said the assailants who were four in number shot their victims dead when they were asleep before they fled into the bush. http://m.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-23859888 |

Blood they say is thicker than water, i don't want a situation whereby my daughter will be disturbing about who her father is in the future. Maybe he has turned a new leaf, why not give him a chance, make efforts to make things work again and try to 4give and forget the past, cos as a matter of fact he is the undisputed father of your daughter, and even if you move on have it at †ђξ back of your heart that he will αℓωαчs come back for †ђξ child, and probably sue you. Its more complicated than you can think buy its better to give him another chance. |
Three persons were burnt to death in a early morning inferno which razed down a apartment at Katsina Ala street, Makurdi, Benue state, on Tuesday. The victims were 40- year old member of the Nigeria Union of Road Transport Worker Terhemen Makar, his wife and a two- year old son who were completely burnt beyond recognition. The only survivor of the inferno was a seven -year old son of the deceased who was rescued by sympathizers who forced open part of the building. He sustained injuries and was quickly rushed to St.Theresa's Hospital in the state capital for treatment. An eye witness, Terna Iorza, said that the fire started shortly after the Power Holding Company of Nigeria restored electricity in the area. Immediately there was a spark and fire with thick smoke engulfed the entire apartment, which is heavily fortified with burglary proof. Terhemen and his wife reportedly struggled in the thick smoke until they were burnt to death with their two-year old baby. The state Police Public Relation Officer, Daniel Ezeala, confirmed the incident, saying investigations have commenced on the matter. Source |

A 42-year old suspect, identified as Rasak Ishola, has been arrested by the police for allegedly raping and impregnating a 16-year old daughter of a legal practitioner in Lagos State. The incident took place at their Igando residence, where the victim, her family and the defendant reside. Rasak Ishola also allegedly aborted the pregnancy without her parent's knowledge. The complications arising from the abortion made the girl fall sick. When her parents became apprehensive about her illness and asked her what happened and why her condition had deteriorated over time, she then opened up and confessed what happened to her. The angry father went to the police and reported the incident. Ishola, who originates from Ogun state, was arrested and detained at Igando Police Division where he was charged to Ejigbo Magistrate's court with the alleged offences under the Criminal Code. Ishola, who is married and has three children, allegedly admitted that the teenage girl was his girlfriend and that he had been sleeping with her without his wife's knowledge. "I knew her six months ago and since she was living in the same area with me, we were meeting secretly until she became pregnant," he narrated. The suspect denied the rape charge against him and claimed she is above 18 years old and had just gained admission into Delta State University as a first year student. Ishola said when she became pregnant, her father, who is a legal practioner, started making trouble with him, and his efforts to settle the matter with the lawyer failed because he said he could not meet his conditions. Asked what could have led him into all that, he said it was temptation and not that he actually raped her. Ishola said he kept the affairs away from his wife and because of the incident his wife has now known what she was not supposed know and hear. When he was brought to the court to be arraigned, the court discovered that the victim was a minor and decided to shelve the trial. The presiding Magistrate, Mrs M. B. Folami ordered that the matter should be transferred to a Family Court at Ikeja. http://sunnewsonline.net/news/man-rapes-impregnates-underage-daughter-of-lagos-lawyer http://www.informationng.com/2013/08/man-rapes-impregnates-underage-daughter-of-lagos-lawyer

Following the Nasarawa governor's claims that one percent enjoy 90 percent of the state's revenue, in an interview with International Centre for Investigative Reporting, clarification was sought from Mohammed Baba Ibaku, chairman, Committee on Media and Information, Nasarawa State House of Assembly. Here are his responses. How do you react to allegations that you and other legislators collect N10 million every quarter for constituency allowance and there is not much to show for it? Who told you that they assigned N10 million to us? I am not a first timer. I was in the assembly in the last legislative tenure. So, my people should be the ones that will ask me what I am doing with the money. By the way, what is N10 million? Go to my people and ask them about what I am telling you, I may be lying. If possible, let them show you what I have been doing with money. Do you know what this constituency allowance is meant for? Constituency allowance is meant for anything that you may not even know. Go and get a definition of constituency allowance then I will tell you what I have been doing with my people for the past six years and they are still happy with me. What do you use N10 million for? What is the money for? What is this money for? If your wife is sick and I carry her to the hospital, how do I quantify that? If I take people to hajj, how do i quantify that? For the past six years, how many people have I sponsored to Jerusalem? Will I use my father's money to do that? If maybe I decide to buy a vehicle for somebody, is it bad? I am into construction of class rooms in my constituency. Go and ask them I am a teacher, I am an educationist. I built class rooms and exam hall in many places. I am not the type that will do project and call people to come and launch it. Go to my area and ask them what I have been doing, they will tell you. But, what I am telling you is just a little of those that I can remember. So you confirm that, indeed you get N10 million every quarter which you spend the way you want? What is N10 million? If I want to spend money for my people, i can spend nothing less than N100, 000 in a day. N100, 000 in three days is N3 million. N3 million in three months is N9 million. So, what are you saying? If you want to balance your story, ask the governor from January to date, how much has the state received and what has he done with it? Go and ask the commissioners how much their ministries have received and what they have done with it. You put these questions to Honorable Muluku and he referred you to me. Were you not on earth when Muluku bought motor cycles and distributed? (After the phone interview ended, Baba Ibaku called back to pose a question) What has he (Governor Al Makura) done with the N400, 000,000 given to him for flood mitigation? Where is the money? Let them answer this question. What is the money doing in account now that rain is falling? Which account? Let them give you the account because i am in a better position to go to the account and inquire. Yes, the law permits me to ask them this question, let them give me the account. And what is the money doing in the account when people are suffering. I hope they are not saying we should shave their hair without touching it. I want to read that story about the N400, 000,000. http://www.gurushill.com/news/nigeria-news/shocking-revelations-i-spend-nothing-less-than-n100-000-in-a-day-hon-baba-ibaku http://premiumtimesng.com/news/143438-i-can-use-constituency-allowance-as-i-want-hon-baba-ibaku.html

Here are seven ways to make sure your financial house is in order as you continue to expand your business: 1. Get educated Take the time to educate yourself about various personal finance topics. Schedule weekly money dates with yourself and spend a few hours managing your personal finances and reading financial books, blogs or magazines. The more you know about your own finances, the more confident you will feel about managing your money for the long haul. If you need even more support, consider hiring a certified financial planner, who can help you to understand your money and create a financial plan to help you reach your goals. 2. Check your credit regularly Your credit report is like a file on you and your credit history. It basically tells lenders how risky a borrower you are. When it comes to time to purchase a new home or car, you want your credit report and credit score to be in top financial shape so that you can qualify for good interest rates. Get in the habit of checking your credit report and credit score at least annually to confirm its accuracy. Do it on your birthday to make keeping track easy. You can access your credit report for free once per year at http://www.annualcreditreport.com/, then pay an additional fee to get your credit score. 3. Create a budget Although this sounds very basic, many entrepreneurs have no budget in place to track their monthly personal income and expenses. You can use online systems like mint.com to track your income and expenses, or simply an Excel spreadsheet. Whatever budgeting system you decide to use, just make sure it works for you and your lifestyle. If you're serious about cleaning up your finances and getting ahead financially, you must allocate time and energy to updating your budget every week. This will ensure you're not spending more than you earn and that you're able to save for your financial goals. 4. Automate your finances Technology makes it super easy to manage day-to-day finances. Set up your finances so that a majority of the process is automated. You can use online bill pay or set up automatic transfers every month for your bills. That way you don't have to worry about whether you're paying your bills on time or being charged late fees for late payments. If you're concerned about having all your bills automated, set up corresponding calendar alerts to check your statements and payments to ensure accuracy. Also, strive to automate your savings every month. The more you can automate your finances, the less you have to worry about on a day-to-day basis. 5. Pay off debts Make a plan to pay off your personal debts as soon as possible. Start by making a list of all your debts – car loans, credit cards, student loans, etc. Include the current balance, minimum monthly payment and interest rate. Then review your budget to determine how much money you can add toward additional debt payments. From there, you can do some more research on the best debt-reduction strategy to confirm you're paying off your debts in the most efficient and effective manner. When working on debt reduction, it is important that you have an adequate cash cushion or money in the bank for any short-term emergencies that may arise. 6. Build your own cash cushion Having a cash cushion is an integral part of your financial foundation. It allows you to use cash to pay for those random expenses or emergencies that arise in your day-to-day life instead of creating more debt or tapping into long-term investments. As an entrepreneur, you should strive to have a cash cushion of six to 12 months of your committed expenses. A cash cushion will allow you to pay for your personal bills and not worry about making ends meet if you need to reduce your income due to tight business cash flow. 7. Start investing outside your business While it is very important to always invest in yourself and your business, you don't want to have all your eggs in one basket. Diversification is extremely important, as it will help to spread out your investment risk over the long haul. Work with a financial planner to create a long-term investment portfolio of stocks, bonds and real estate that is aligned with your financial goals and risk tolerance. A Medical Practitioner with Federal Medical Centre, Ekiti, Dr. Kayode Oyebode, on Saturday said that constant use of mobile phones could damage the brain. Oyebode said this while fielding questions in Osogbo. He said that the heat generated by cell phone was capable of damaging brain cell. "The use of mobile phones excessively can cause brain cancer because the composition of the brain tissues is more prone to chemical changes if exposed to radiation. "Certainly, this radiation from mobile phones adversely affects our nervous system, especially memory. When making call, do not put your mobile closer to your ears," he warned. He advised that after dialling, left ear should be used because using the right ear can affect the brain directly. Oyebode advised people to use ear piece, wireless headphone and other preventive measures while making or receiving calls. He also advised Nigerians to always stick to medical instructions as many tend to turn deaf ears to what they knew was harmful to them. Oyebode said many Nigerians indulged in making use of phones, especially motorists and pedestrians while driving, warning that the action was risky. He urged Nigerians to be agents of societal change by laying good examples for others. "Prevention is better than cure; it is better to do what is right so that others can learn from you than to cause harm to yourselves and others.'' http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/08/constant-mobile-phone-usage-a-threat-to-brain-cell-expert/ |
