Philip Katongu (pictured below) from Wamba, Nasarawa State has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his wife to death, Punch reports.

According to reports, Katongu stabbed his wife to death in a street at Oniru Estate, Maroko, Lagos, where they lived. Police say she was stabbed at least three times.

After he was arrested by operatives of the Department of Criminal Investigations, Yaba, Lagos, Katongu, 45, claimed he killed her because she infected him with HIV and then wanted to leave him for another man. He explained:

“I married Justina, my second wife in December 2010. I later learnt that she had given birth to two girls for a man. The girls died of AIDS. However, when we first met, she did not tell me all these. I explained to her that I have a wife with children and I wanted to marry her too. Before marriage, I told her we should go to hospital to conduct HIV test, but she refused and said that she was HIV negative. So we started sleeping together.”

Katongu claimed that without his knowledge, his wife had been going to Abuja for medical treatment every three months for HIV, until March 2013 when she took him along.

He said it was at the hospital that she disclosed her HIV status to him.
“I was angry and told the doctor who equally blamed her for not disclosing it to me. The doctor then tested me, and I was positive. We came back to Lagos and continued with the relationship because I loved her. But suddenly, she told me she wanted to pack out from my house that she was no longer interested in marrying me having had another person in Abuja. In fact, the man usually called her on phone while we were together.
“I told her that with her status, she should not go and be infecting people with the virus. And that I will kill her and kill myself. We started fighting and I stabbed her. It was in the early hours. I stabbed her three times with a knife. She shouted and people were knocking at our door.

After she died, I stabbed myself, and the people broke the door open. I woke up to find myself in a hospital. I feel very bad that I killed my wife. I loved her very much.

Bridegroom Killed In Motorcycle Accident On His Way To Church On Wedding Day In Anambra

Disaster struck in Anambra state yesterday following the death of a popular vulcanizer on his way to a church wedding.

The groom identified as 38-year-old Nzekwe Chukwuemeka Barthlomew, from Amekwulu village, Ezinifite in Aguata LGA of the state on Saturday died in an accident on his way to Church for his wedding ceremony.

The vulcanizer who works at Oye Uga area of Aguata was being taken on a motorcycle by his Best Man, one Okwudili from Uga to the chruch in Ekwuluobia around 9:30am where the bride was already waiting for him.

Half way to Ekwuluobia, an eyewitness said, the two friends ran into a stationary Camry car and the driver of the car suddenly opened the door oblivious of the motorcycle coming behind reportedly on a high speed.

The bridegroom died on the spot after hitting his head on a tiled road while his Best Man who sustained minor injuries was rushed to hospital for treatment.

A young man in Niger is said to have lost his life after being electrocuted by a transformer in the Kpakungu area of Minna, the state capital.

Fruz.wapka.mobi reports that Residents discovered the corpse of the unidentified teenager, believed to be between 17-20 years of age, due to the stench the natural process of decomposition was causing.

The victim is said to have been found inside the Power Holding Company of Nigeria transformer and was allegedly killed in an attempt to vandalize it.

The lifeless body of the boy, suspected to be between 17 years and 20 years, wearing a T-shirt that was torn upon a pair of jeans trousers, was discovered right inside the transformer. The body had already turned black.

The boy, whose mission, our correspondent gathered, was to steal copper from the transformer serving Supreme Water factory and environs, may have died about two days before his lifeless body was discovered by passers-by.

The offensive odour oozing from the already decomposing body, which had been attracting flies, our correspondent gathered, prompted people in the neighbourhood to conduct a search of where and what could have caused the stench.

The search party, it was gathered, was shocked to behold the lifeless body of a teenager, with a rubber slippers, which he used to pad his two arms, apparently to avoid being electrocuted, as he crawled through the transformer, one of the residents of the area told our correspondent.

Some of the people interviewed in the area recalled how the vandals had made life unbearable for them as it was becoming a routine thing for the transformer to break down every now and then due to the antics of the criminals.

Liberian Diplomat Patrick Sawyer, the man credited with ‘importing’ Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) to Nigeria, ‘knew he was sick’ with the virus before entry to Nigeria.

He was also advised by the Liberian Health Ministry not to travel out of the country but he ignored the instruction, flew to Nigeria and died here transmitting the virus to Nigerian medical personnel who offered medical services to him.

AllAfrica.com gives a very detailed tale of how the Liberian American Patrick Sawyer acted before and after he was diagnosed with Ebola, please read this story and share it:
Barely 24 hours before his death, Patrick Sawyer had a rather strange – and in the words of medical and diplomatic sources here, “Indiscipline” encounter with nurses and health workers at First Consultants Hospital in Obalende, one of the most crowded parts of Lagos, a population of some 21 million inhabitants, FrontPageAfrica has learned.

Looking to get to the bottom of Sawyer’s strange ailment on the Asky Airline flight, which Sawyer transferred on in Togo, hospital officials say, he was tested for both malaria and HIV AIDS.

However, when both tests came back negative, he was then asked whether he had made contact with any person with the Ebola Virus, to which Sawyer denied.

Sawyer’s sister, Princess had died of the deadly virus on Monday, July 7, 2014 at the Catholic Hospital in Monrovia. On Friday, July 25, 2014, 18 days later, Sawyer died in Lagos.

Back in Lagos, authorities at the First Consultants Hospital in Obalende decided that despite Sawyer’s denial, they would test him for Ebola, due to the fact that he had just arrived from Liberia, where there has been an outbreak of the disease with more than 100 deaths.
The hospital issued a statement this week stating that Sawyer was quarantined immediately after he was discovered to have been infected with the deadly virus. In addition, a barrier nursing was implemented around Sawyer and the Lagos State Ministry of Health was immediately notified.

Hospital authorities also requested the Federal Ministry of Health for additional laboratory test based on its suspicion of Ebola.
FrontPageAfrica has now learned that upon being told he had Ebola, Mr. Sawyer went into a rage, denying and objecting to the opinion of the medical experts. “He was so adamant and difficult that he took the tubes from his body and took off his pants and urinated on the health workers, forcing them to flee.
The hospital would later report that it resisted immense pressure to let out Sawyer from its hospital against the insistence from some higher-ups and conference organizers that he had a key role to play at the ECOWAS convention in Calabar, the Cross River State capital. In fact, FrontPageAfrica has been informed that officials in Monrovia were in negotiations with ECOWAS to have Sawyer flown back to Liberia.

A text message in possession of FrontPageAfrica from the ECOWAS Ambassador in Liberia, responding to a senior GoL official reads: Your Excellency, the disease control department of the Federal Ministry of Health just contacted me through the hospital now, insisting that Mr. Sawyer be evacuated for now. Pls advise urgently.”

LUTH Lab positive on Ebola
First Consultants said that it then went further to reach senior officials in the Office of the Secretary of Health of the USA who assisted it with contacts at the Centre for Disease Control and W.H.O Regional Laboratory Centre in Senegal. According to the hospital, the initial results from LUTH laboratory showed a signal of possible Ebola virus, but required confirmation.

The First Consultants statement noted that it was able to obtain confirmation of Ebola virus disease, (Zaire strain) after working with the state, federal and international agencies. Sawyer was pronounced dead at 6:50 AM Nigeria time, on July 25 and all agencies were properly notified.

Once the case was officially confirmed, the hospital was temporarily shut down and in-house patients immediately evacuated. Sawyer’s body was subsequently cremated under W.H.O guidelines and witnessed by all appropriate agencies, according to the hospital statement. “In keeping with W.H.O guidelines, the hospital is shut down briefly as full decontamination exercise is currently in progress. The re-opening of the hospital will also be in accordance with its guidelines”, the hospital said.

In the aftermath of Sawyer’s death, both federal and state authorities in Lagos have instituted measures to curb the spread of the disease and quarantining all those who came in contact with Sawyer.
In total, Sawyer reportedly came in direct contact with 59 persons, 44 of whom were at the hospital he was taken to when he fell ill, according to the Lagos State government. The Lagos state government clarified in a statement Monday that Ms. Obi-Nnadozie, Nigeria’s Ambassador to Liberia was not among the 15 people at the airport who had had direct contact with Mr. Sawyer before his death as was initially believed.

Few hours ago, CNN made a big reporting blunder after they couldn’t locate Nigeria on the map of Africa so instead of going blank, they used the map of Niger for Nigeria.

The error spread like crazy with many fans including Americans blaming the big media house for such a big blunder.

Hall's bill has now gone to the State Senate.

It will take place in the basement of Memorial Hall, despite strong objections voiced by the Roman Catholic Church. “It’s unacceptable,” Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights headquartered in New York City told WND.

“Harvard would never allow an anti-gay event on the campus sponsored by an independent student organization and then have Harvard conclude, ‘Well, that’s the way the student’s feel about the issue and we believe in academic freedom.’”

Donahue said that if Harvard doesn’t stop it, the university should at the very least put out a statement condemning the event.
Donohue said he was particularly upset because Harvard’s first reaction was to misrepresent the event. “Leaving aside the in-your-face assault to the Catholic Church that is being made here, I don’t like it when people lie,” he said.

“Harvard put out a statement initially that made it sound like the controversy related to a controversy over a Buddhist presentation or a Shinto presentation, without mentioning in their statement that it was the Satanic Temple of New York sponsoring a Black Mass on the campus,” Donahue said. He noted that Harvard then “got so much flack they revised their statement, but they lied again saying the ceremony was meant to be educational.”

His most famous photo shows him turning his beard into a ramen bowl.

He credits his wife, Angela, with turning him into a tonsorial superstar. “My wife’s into fashion and she likes beards,” he told The Huffington Post. Webb’s wife’s fashion sense is paying off for Webb in new ways. He’s one of the characters featured in the newest Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! book, “Reality Shock!” debuting Sept. 9.

Webb’s had facial hair since he was 11. About four years ago, his beard was enough to “play with” so he and his wife started shaping it into fun shapes. “We never knew we’d get the attention,” he said. “It was just fun and we thought, ‘Let’s do this as often as we can.’”

Eventually they ran out of ideas of what to do with his beard, so they solicited suggestions from fans.


Webb is branching into the business of hair care. In August, he is coming out with a special comb he’s invented for long beards. “It has a special brush that untangles hair,” he said. “You can brush your beard when it’s wet.”

That’s not his only dream. “I really want to bring more exposure to beard competitions in the U.S.,” Webb said. “It’s one thing to grow a long beard, but if you connect with like-minded individuals, it helps sustain your interest in the beard.”

This came less than 2 weeks after the death of Patrick Sawyer, a Liberian-American who visited Nigeria last month for a health conference.

Speaking during a radio programme monitored in Abeokuta, at the weekend, the state Acting Epidemiologist, Dr. Yusuph Akeem, confirmed that two suspected victims were on surveillance in the state.

According to him, the state Ministry of Health was already in possession of the names, addresses and tele­phone numbers of the sus­pected victims.

He also stated that the vic­tims resided in the state but worked in Lagos State.

The state Director of Pub­lic Health, Dr. Yusuph Qudus, has revealed that the health officials in the state had been holding series of meetings with their counterparts in La­gos and at the federal level to prevent the spread of the deadly disease.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Health has sent a warning letter to TB Joshua to stop admitting Ebola patients to his healing program in order to curb the outbreak of the deadly virus.

This virus is spreading at an alarming rate.

A young man has been arrested in Lagos for killing his girlfriend after she rejected his marriage proposal.

28-year-old Raphael Effiong on Monday stabbed his girlfriend, 26-year-old Gift Sunday to death with scissors inside a hotel in Ketu area of Lagos.

A relative of the victim said Effiong attacked Gift in June before he eventually killed her in the last attack.

“The incident happened on Monday evening. It was shocking to all of us. Gift prepared some food, and took it to the hotel on his invitation. They got a room, and checked in. What then happened was that Raphael, who had hidden a pair of scissors in his pocket, swooped on Gift and attacked her.

“She began to scream, but there was no quick response. He injured her brutally with the scissors. It was after a while when some guests in the hotel heard her screams that they came around and asked Effiong to open the door, but he refused.
“They forced the door open, found Sunday in a pool of blood and alerted the policemen from the Alapere division. This was not the first time he would attack her.

About a month ago, while he had come on a visit and the two were alone at home, he had attacked her because she was not ready to marry him,”Mr Dickson said.

The troubled lovers met in 2013.
The suspect who hailed from Uyo in Akwa Ibom state was said to be working as a driver for MTN.

His case has been transferred to Criminal Investigation Department in Yaba Lagos. During interrogation, he confessed that he murdered his lover because she turned down his marriage proposal.

Mike Omeri. And according to Omeri, the little girl was among three suspected Boko Haram
members that were arrested on Tuesday night. She had
a belt strapped with explosives at the time of her arrest.
Omeri told newsmen: Security forces on Tuesday, July 29, at about 10pm along Zaria Road, Tudun Wada of Funtua
Metropolis, arrested three suspects believed to be members of the Boko Haram sect. The three
suspects consisted a male named Iliya Haliru, and
two females – Zainab Musa, 18, and Hadiza Musa,
10. The three suspects were arrested in a Honda
CRV. When they were directed to disembark for security
check, 10-year-old Hadiza was
discovered to have been strapped with an explosive
belt. And immediately, Iliya and Zainab made attempt to escape with the car but were later blocked by other concerned Nigerians and subsequently
arrested.

The police successfully unstrapped the
explosive. Omere also appealed to parents to consciously observe
and watch their children’s activities to prevent them from
participating in unwholesome activities, particularly acts
of terrorism.

A 34 year old woman, Mrs. Fatima Bankole, was battered by her husband, Alhaji Kamoru Bankole, for taking piece of fish from the pot to break her fast.

The victim is first of three wives of Alhaji Kamoru, at residing at Hasan Close, Alasia, Ijanikin in Lagos State. The bruising attack happened on the 16th of July, when the third wife reported to their husband that their senior wife took fish from the soup to break her fast.

The husband, according to witnesses, did not listen to her excuse before attacking her.

According to Sahara reporters ,the victim, Mrs. Fatima Bankole, their husband had always physically abused her, but the incidence of July 16th was more brutal.

She narrated that they had made a roster between two wives, due to the absence of the third wife who was away at the period, to cook for 15 days each.

The victim said she had completed her period, and it was turn of the last wife. She said they would normally serve the husband first, followed by the children before the wives would serve themselves.

On the day she was to be attacked, Mrs. Fatima said the last wife had finished her cooking and served their husband and the children. She then went for her own meal.

But soon after, the last wife complained to her husband that Fatima took a larger chunk of the fish in the pot. Their husband, Alhaji Kamoru Bankole, queried her, but she said that she only took a little out of it, stating that the fish was in pieces and mixed in the stew. Her explanations, however, got her in trouble with their husband. Alhaji Kamoru, she details, delivered several punches to her face. She said she bled for hours and was further locked up in a room for three days before she escaped.

She said neighbors then took her to the hospital for treatment. That was the cruelest from her history of experience of assault by their husband, Mrs. Fatima said. From experiences she recounted, she recalled how her hair was pulled out of her head, which resulted in grievous head injuries.

The police have now arrested the husband, following outcry and petitions by the Women Arise civil group in Lagos. He will be arraigned in court next week.

A 30-year-old man, simply recognized as Adeji is now cooling his heels in a cell at the Criminal Investigation Department of the Oyo State Police Command, Iyaganku for allegedly raping his neighbour’s pregnant wife.

Mary (other names withheld), a 23-year-old mother of two kids who is carrying a three-month old pregnancy was a victim of the suspect’s untamed libido.

Adeji waylaid the pregnant woman when she was returning from the stream in Sanusi village, Idi-Ayunre, Ibadan, where they are both neighbours.

It was gathered that Mary attempted to escape but was overpowered and raped by Adeji, despite her pleas that she was pregnant.

After the illicit act, Adeji attempted to bribe her not to spill the beans, offering N500. He then fled the scene, leaving behind his pair of slippers.

Prior to the incident, Sunday Sun learnt that the suspect had been luring and making advances to Mary.

Mary’s husband had earlier lodged a complaint with the village head who issued Adeji a serious warning to desist from the damnable act, but he was not deterred.

After the incident, the victim was rushed to Adeoyo Hospital for medical examination after which a report was made at the Idi-Ayunre Police Division.

Policemen later visited the crime scene and eventually apprehended the suspect.

Adeji, however, told Sunday Sun that the housewife was his girlfriend and that they had been in a relationship before the incident. A top police source who confirmed the incident told Sunday Sun that the suspect would be charged to court once investigations were concluded. He added that the police would not relent in its drive to rid Oyo State of rapists terrorizing women in the state…

THE world's fattest woman who weighs 54.6 stone is on a mission to lose more than a third of her weight so she can walk down the aisle with her fiance.

She has already reduced her daily calorie intake from 10,000 to 1,200 as she hopes to have a cowboy themed wedding of her dreams.

Ms Pierce said: "I'm determined not to have to get married at home - I want to be able to walk up the aisle.

"We both love country music so I plan to wear a wedding dress, cowboy boots and cowgirl hat and Tony will be in jeans and cowboy boots.

"I want a big area, lots of people there and I want to dance all night and have the best honeymoon ever."

Doctors have already warned Ms Pierce, who has been house bound since 2001, that without drastic measures to reduce her weight her life is in danger.

Ms Pierce, who lives in Cedar Rapids in Iowa, USA, said she is worried about dying in her sleep and her dream is lose an incredible 40 stone.

She said: "I'm worried about having a heart attack or a stroke and dying in my sleep.

"My dream goal is to be 14 stone and get married to my fiancé.
"I don't want much - I just want to have a life."

Ms Pierce, who weighed almost 20 stone when she was 13, ate to comfort herself as she grew up with an alcoholic father and was teased at school.

Her diet when she was younger used to consist of cake for breakfast, fast food for lunch, stew for dinner and ice cream and cakes before bed.

She said: "I had an unhappy family life as a child and eating was the only thing I had any control over - I used to sneak junk food into the house and hide the wrappers.

"My weight rose steadily and I was teased at school. I chose to pretend it wasn't happening."
In 2002 she was diagnosed with lymphedema, a condition which causes fluid retention, and over the years the build up in her left leg has made her immobile.

In 2005 she also developed necrotising fasciitis - a flesh eating bacteria - and had two-and-a-half stone of tissue removed from her side.

She is cared for at home by her 18-year-old daughter Charly and her boyfriend Mr Saur.
Ms Pierce said: "Being homebound is the worst thing in the world because it means you have no life.
"Tony and Charly do things they shouldn't have to do, like clean me and cook for me. "They do it because they love me."

Her daughter added: "The idea of losing mum scares me - she could die any time but I try not to think about it.

"I'm helping by cooking healthy meals to encourage her to lose weight."

Before she began a diet in july 2014 this year she would eat cereal, two pizzas, two big sandwiches, five doughnuts, two plates of lasagna, a large Kit-Kat chocolate bar, a bowl of popcorn and Pop Tarts.

But now with help from her daughter she is eating three yoghurts, a banana with peanut butter, mixed vegetables, grilled chicken, vegetable pizza, and hummus with crackers daily.

She has also started exercising for two hours a day and a physical therapist visits her three times a week.

She met her lover Mr Saur, the younger brother of her daughter's father Jimmy, at a party three years ago and three months later started a relationship.

He said: "Charity's size has never been an issue for me. In the beginning I didn't give it any thought, it was only when she became immobile that it has caused problems.

"Now it is impacting on our sex life, which is difficult. I can't wait to marry Charity. I proposed to her three times because I knew I wanted to be with her.

"I think she will be a beautiful bride. I do worry that she is going to die early but I try to support her to lose weight. I feel confident she will lose weight and have the operation."

"I was a little bit tired," Louise told As It Happens host Carol Off in an interview that aired in july 18 2014.

The sisters said that old age and arthritis were the main reasons for their retirement and have written about their exploits in a new book calledThe Ladies of Amsterdam.

In a lively and upbeat interview, the twins, who began their careers in their early twenties, explained how they enjoyed their time working in Amsterdam's red light district. They described the place as safe and more fun than working on the streets.

"We like to work in the red light district," said Louise in broken English. "You had fun, we know a lot of people … the American boys, the Canadian boys, the German … every country come there."

The women said they enjoyed spending time with their clients and that they were so successful they have their own house.

But not all memories were pleasant. Things changed with the European Union and the legalization of prostitution in the Netherlands, said the twins.
At first, women from all over Europe began arriving to work in Amsterdam’s red light district, they said. That's when the "mentality" of relationships between clients and prostitutes began to change for the worse, they said. When prostitution became legal soon after, life as a sex worker further deteriorated because the government began taking some of their earnings.

Asked if they will miss the work, the sisters said they would.

Louise said working makes her feel younger, and Martine said she misses it because it’s sometimes nice to be your own boss.
