I don't wanna hang on to religion. . . . .It's too weak to be used as the reason Igbo people are sidelined.
There are Christians in the North so what are you on about??
How many christians are in the core north?. It's like saying there are muslims in the east.
PoliticsRe: Can Nigeria Afford an Igbo President? by StFunmi(f): 12:48am On Mar 04, 2009
I disagree. . . .
OBJ is a Christian. . . . .
Read what i wrote again. Hausas don't view yorubas as christian extremists, they view them as christian liberals while igbos are viewed as core christian effigies. That is why anytime there is religious war in the country, they target igbos. They are not fighting them because they hate them, rather it's because they hate what they stand for.

Do u really think em Northerners would allow an Igbo man to sit there??
Northerners are known to cause trouble that will rewrite history and Nigeria being what it is, anything goes. Don't be surprised they'll scatter the arrangement by 2015 to remain in power. History has shown they derive energy from violence and up till now, they hold the 4 aces. Why should a Yoruba man or igbo man allow chaos when they'll lose all they've worked for?. It's like waging a war against alayes when your car, children, home and business is at risk. Who will lose in such war?. Until we southerners devise a way to bring the north to par with our economic status, they'll continue to be bugs.

Will you agree for your siblings to miss three years of school because you want to fight the nomadic north?
PoliticsRe: Can Nigeria Afford an Igbo President? by StFunmi(f): 12:45am On Mar 04, 2009
Then why do people bother to vote if the thing has already been decided by the oracles?
Was the last one not between Buhari and yaradua. The constitution was rewritten during Obj's regime. Next one should be between yaradua and another northerner. Any igbo, ijaw or yoruba trying to run for presidency in 2011 is looking for trouble.
PoliticsRe: Can Nigeria Afford an Igbo President? by StFunmi(f): 12:38am On Mar 04, 2009
Why??
I don't know everything about Nigeria.
There must be a reason why Igbo candidates are kept at bay.
Major Reason: religion

Igbos are seen as christian crusaders just like Hausas are seen as islamic crusaders in Nigeria. Yorubas are in between and it'll be easier for alhaji to work with a yoruba christian just like an igbo christian will trust a yoruba  muslim more when it comes to invading their land with messages from mohammed. Yorubas have the advantage of religion and population too.

Again, the presidency is now rotated every 8 years. The igbos that are talking about 2011 are joking because the north has 4 more years, then the igbos, then  the North central, the south south, the north west, the south west and so on unless there is a chaos along the line as usual.

Why are you laughing as if they don't know what is holding them back. 90% of the almajiris and alayes in Yorubaland are from polygamous homes. Do the math. Is Billygoat asking for igbos to share their wealth with him or what?. Did the igbos ask him to waste his salary on booze and kitten?

All of you are shameless hypocrite and I am disappointed about your comment. Non of you has quoted a single sentence that I wrote and claim its a lie. Every single Nigerians knows every words in that write up is a fact. Why am I been castigated for stating the obvious.

On this forum must Ibo people pretend as if they are the victim, but in actual fact they are the perpetrators. The rest of Nigeria are a victim of a ruthless Ibo mafia whose sole agenda is economy domination , while eliminating any opposition.
How can people who formed less than 30% of Nigerian population be dominating our entire country economy. Nigeria presidency is by negotiation and a trade off. The Ibo cannot dominate the market and at the same time have the presidency. You cannot eat
@Billygoat, are you planning to turn Nigeria into a socialist state?. Is the igbo man standing in your way to make something for yourself. If the igbo is dominating the economic scene even after going through the war, is that not a thing of shame to others especially you?. Nigeria is a capitalist society. Instead of whining like your fore fathers, why not look for a way to breakthrough in whatever you are doing and also find the factor that is responsible for igbo domination.

Hint: may be if you look into the issue of family, procreation and polygamy, you may find part of the answers. It's a pity that a 30 year old man with 3 wives and 13 children will be wondering how his 30 year old igbo neighbor with one wife and 2 children is saving more than him. It's a pity.undecided undecided

At least you have realized that claiming the presidency will not solve your problems. The north did it for donkey years yet they are the poorest in the country even though the have the richest goons in Nigeria, why?. Because for you to remain wealthy, you have to know how to create wealth. Igbos have the highest number of middle class citizens in Nigeria and that's because they create wealth. CNN was showing those that won millions in America the other day and how they went bankrupt a fews years after and people were wondering why. You can sit on Abiola's moneey and swim murkily through it just for a few years.

If you know one problem your peoples presidency have solved for them, let me hear it. Better go get yourself a job and stop hoping on Aso rock.

Native doctors, occultic men now operate as pastors

By CHRISTOPHER OJI
Tuesday, March 3, 2009
One person who has been angry about how things are going on in the Christian fold is the General Overseer, Grace Prevailing Ministries, Ojodu, Lagos, Rev. Dr. Godwin Nwachukwu.

The radical preacher of the gospel is not happy about the influx of fake pastors in God’s vineyard. Rev. Nwachukwu, though is not against proliferation of churches, which he said, would propagate the teaching of Jesus Christ, e is angry that occultic people and native doctors have infiltrated the church.

In an interview with Daily Sun, he warned people to be careful on the type of church they attend as native doctors and occultists are everywhere practising as pastors.

Proliferation of churches

On one end, it is good, irrespective of what is going on in Christendom. So many people are abusing the gospel because, any Dick and Harry can now open a shop and call it a church. Go to rail lines, warehouses, you see people opening churches. People do things that do not glorify God. That, notwithstanding, there are still genuine men of God that are propagating the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Native doctors are now scarce

Indeed, if you notice in the olden days, you see native doctors everywhere. Through the gospel of salvation, most of them have given their lives to Jesus. However, we should not be fooled, majority of native doctors and occultic people are now operating under churches. They now operate as pastors, it is embarrassing. You go to a church for deliverance, those who claim to be men of God will charge money to conduct deliverance for people oppressed from the bondage of satan.

People should be careful where they worship for your pastor may be a native doctor carrying out evil assignment for satan his master.

Thank God, He is dealing with some of them. We read in the papers about pastors arrested for raping children, homosexuals and some for murder. Some of them are in detention.

To know the genuine ones

The Bible says, “By their fruits, you shall know them. A genuine man of God preaches salvation messages, he doesn’t bend the word of God. He tells the people what the Bible teaches and practises what he preaches. He preaches prosperity in righteousness. He preaches decency and modesty. They are not miracle preachers or showcasing drama in the pulpit. The Bible says to them that believes, signs and wonders shall follow them.

How I was called

This is my 28 years in the ministry. God called me into the ministry because I wanted a change. I am over 40, my father’s root was from a white garment church, so when he died, I questioned their vision and revelations and at the end of it, there was no sincerity. My mother’s root is Jehovah’s Witness, but they don’t believe in miracle. I thank God that I am able to convert my mother into Pentecostal. God used me to heal her when she was sick. God opened her eyes and she believed there is miracle. I was an educational consultant, doing well in my business. God did not call me when I was sick or wretched, that is why I don’t joke with my salvation. And God has prove himself in my life.

How did he prove Himself

He gave me words of knowledge, which I used to discern what is happening to a person and the solution to his problem. When God speaks to me, He speaks loudly and clearly but the mystery is that I will be the only one hearing the word. My first encounter with God, I thought people around me heard when He spoke to me and I asked them what they heard and they said nothing. Some people will come to me and say, pastor, tell me about my life. I am not God. What will I tell the person when God has not spoken to me concerning the person. I only speak when He speaks to me. God also speaks to me through dreams.

Prophecies come true

My prophecies don’t fail. If you ask my church members, they will tell you and my prophecies are always recorded. On December 31, God told me that a Northern governor would pass away and that he would be flown abroad before his demise. I warned that if any governor from the north is sick and should be flown abroad, they should bring him to this church or his people should turn to Christ and pray for him. That day, we had more crowd than the usual church service. That same day, I spoke about Attah Mills of Ghana winning the election without problem. I spoke about Yar’Adua being down with sickness but nothing will happen to him.

I spoke on the Abia State election and it has come to pass. I spoke about war in Israel. I spoke on Obama winning the election and that on that the day of his swearing in that someone would be arrested for attempted murder. God has told me that the Nigeria economy will bounce back. There is nothing to worry about. God is going to change the economy. People will be amazed the way the economy will bounce back.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Femi Joins Everton. by StFunmi(op): 12:11am On Mar 04, 2009

Nigerian youngster, Orenuga, joins Everton

NIGERIA-BORN Southend United youngster, Femi Orenuga, has completed a move to Premier League side, Everton, for an undisclosed transfer fee.

The 15-year-old winger, who became the youngest ever player to play for the Shrimpers when he came on as a substitute in the FA Cup victory over Luton in November, has signed scholarship terms at Goodison Park after Southend accepted an undisclosed fee.

"I'm really excited about the move," Orenuga told Southend's official website. "When I went to Everton I saw how many youth players had gone through into the first team and I think I will have a better chance with them than some of the other sides who were interested.

"I will be sad to leave as I have really enjoyed my time at Southend and (Head of Youth) Ricky Duncan and (Academy Manager) Luke Hobbs have really brought the best out of me. But it was too good an opportunity to turn down; I might never get another chance to prove myself at a Premier League side."

Duncan added: "Obviously, we are disappointed to lose someone of his talent, but we couldn't stand in Femi's way. A good youth policy produces players for the first team and sells players to other sides."

Orenuga was born on March 18, 1993, and joined Southend United in 2006, after he impressed the club following his recommendation by an agent. He became the youngest player to appear for Southend United when he came on as a 93rd minute substitute in their 3-1 victory over Luton Town in the FA Cup second round on November 29, 2008.

Orengua has often been likened to another up and coming youngster, at the successful centre of excellence, by the name of Julian Okai.

UK applications for Nigerian visas ‘on the rise’
By Simon Kolawole who was in London, 03.03.2009
Tuesday, March 3, 2009

Despite the negative perception of Nigeria abroad, there has been a steady increase in the number of applications for Nigerian visas at the country’s High Commission in the United Kingdom.

Nigeria’s High Commis-sioner to the UK, Dr. Dalhatu Tafida, informed THISDAY in London at the weekend that there has been “a noticeable rise in the number of British nationals applying for entry visa as well as permits to come and work in the country”.

The British government has consistently issued a negative travel advisory on Nigeria to its citizens owing to what it calls “insecurity”, especially because of the kidnappings in the Niger Delta.

In the last four years, 42 British nationals working in the oil industry have been kidnapped in the oil-producing region by militants agitating for greater control of the resources of the region, which supplies Nigeria with over 80 per cent of its budgetary revenues.

Nigeria also suffers from image problems in the UK as a result of drug trafficking, credit card fraud, identity theft, general immigration offences and the advance fee fraud, otherwise known as “419” perpetrated by some Nigerians.

“Nigeria remains a very important country to the United Kingdom despite all these negative developments,” the High Commissioner, who assumed office at the mission April last year, said. “The fact that more and more British citizens are applying for work permits and visitor visas is an indication of this. The trend is increasing.”

The High Commissioner said between 100 and 250 visas are granted daily, while in 2008, 950 subject-to-regularisation (STR) work visas were issued and 1030 temporary work permits (TWP) were also granted to British nationals.

Tafida said Nigeria is the second largest African market for the country’s former colonial masters, coming next to South Africa which is regarded as the continent’s most successful nation.

“Nigeria is Britain’s 34th largest overseas market and the second largest in Africa after South Africa. UK exports of goods to Nigeria were worth £1.013 billion in 2007 and £882 million in services in the same year. UK investments in Nigeria are estimated at about £1 billion,” the former Senator revealed, although he said comparable statistics of Nigeria’s exports to the UK are not available “but crude oil remains the major export item aside from commodities. In fact, Britain accounts for 5.7 per cent of Nigeria’s external trade.”

The governor of Bayelsa State, Mr. Timi Sylva, had threatened last Thursday at the Royal Institute of International Affairs, Chatam House, London, that he would no longer honour invitations by the British government to discuss the Niger Delta if it continued to issues travel warnings against the region despite all efforts Nigeria was making to contain militant activities.

Rivers State Governor Chibuike Amaechi, who was at the forum along with Delta State Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, said he had decided against attending any event relating to the Niger Delta which is held in Lagos or Abuja or anywhere outside the oil-producing region in protest against the negative portray of the region “despite all our efforts to put security in place”.

Meanwhile, Tafida also informed THISDAY that as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s mission in the UK, he has taken steps to make the Consular Section more active and responsive to the need of Nigerians.

“One of the things the section has done recently is to visit Nigerians in British prisons and counsel them,” he said. “The response was wonderful. Many of the prisoners were crying, saying that was the first time the government of Nigeria was showing any interest in their plight.”

He said the number of Nigerians in prisons had reduced dramatically, from 1,461 last year to 887 this year. There are between two and three million Nigerians living in the UK.

“This is a significant development,” he said, although he admitted that he was not too sure what was responsible for the drop—whether they had completed their prison terms, were given parole or crimes committed by Nigerians had actually reduced.

Tafida also said Nigeria was in the process of signing a prisoner exchange agreement with the UK. This would enable Nigerian prisoners to come and serve their terms in Nigeria, likewise for British prisoners in Nigeria,

Marrying someone at 12 is absurd and absolutely insane . . .this early marriages used to be the practice of 'SOME" Nigerians in the earlier 1900's and not even the mid or late 1900's (1970 - till date),or were you married at that age? Embarrassed Nigeria is my country and lets face the facts the way there are . . if you claim that till date, its still 12. . . kindly tell me where it is . .simple and better still show me link. . and ONLY then i can admit
Why not scan the copy you have and post it(the marriage section), let's see the age stipulated by law for people to get married. If you are doubting the age 12 thing, what is the age in the compendium in your laps?

child marriages have no place in this day and age. however, there is something fishy about this article - when did nigeriens( from Niger) start looking yoruba? (those girls have yoruba written all over them) until reading this article and checking the net, i actually thought all nigeriens had arab features, and were beggars .

i didn't even know we had nigerien working immigrants at our security outfits.

anyway, if the story is true - the marriages should be nullified.
What do you mean by they look yoruba?. They can be igbo or hausa as far as am concerned. undecided

Oshodi: 24-hour surveillance to check return of hoodlums, roadside traders
Written by Kingsley Adegboye
Monday, March 2, 2009

It will seem that the Lagos State government is not resting on its oars after taming the hitherto notorious Oshodi and bringing sanity to bear in the place.

Determined to consolidate and sustain the success it has recorded in turning Oshodi into a new haven, the Lagos State Government last week presented 10 brand new monitoring vehicles to the new Special Task Force code-named “Operation Clean Up” set up to maintain zero tolerance for all forms of nuisance along the Oshodi route.

The major task of the new task force made up of members of the Nigeria Police Force, officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and officials of the state’s Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) is to ensure law and order as well as compliance with the state environmental and sanitation laws along the Airport Road , between Agege Motor Road and Mushin . The sanitation task force comprises 10 different teams with each team made up of 10 operatives drawn from the Police, LASTMA and KAI.

Commissioner for the Environment, Dr Muiz Banire while formally presenting the patrol and monitoring vehicles to the groups at Oshodi stated that the procurement of the vehicles and the establishment of the Special Task Force were meant to sustain the on-going clean up exercise in Oshodi and its environs, adding that the exercise shall be extended to all parts of the State.

The Commissioner further disclosed that the new Task Force which will work on shift basis from 7 am to12noon, 12noon to 6pm and 6pm to 12 mid-night has been mandated to abate any form of nuisance, arrest and arraign erring offenders before the state sanitation court for prosecution.

Banire noted that there is a strong nexus between the environment and health of the inhabitants of every environment, stressing that a healthy environment is the harbinger of good health and longevity while dirty and unsustainable environment breed ill-health and an increase in wage bill. He said the wage bill of state has been dropping with the improvement in the cleanliness of the environment. .

Banire while expressing confidence that the current effort would yield positive results in combating the menace of climate change, urged the residents to join hands with the State Government in its crusade to provide a clean, safe and sustainable environment devoid of degradation.

He advised that the issue of sustainable environment and battle against the effects of green house gases and climate change is receiving global attention, urging residents to constitute themselves into vigilante groups to police their environment against any act capable of promoting the outbreak of epidemics.

Meanwhile, one of the officers leading one of the monitoring units who spoke to Vanguard Metro under condition of anonymity noted that policing Oshodi to ensure compliance to the state sanitation laws poses some serious challenges. According to the officer, one of such challenges is that Oshodi traders who are not happy that they have been displaced of their trading spots are making frantic efforts to stage a come back to the road. “Some of them have their wares in sacks and containers. They pretend to be moving , meanwhile they are whispering to passers-by to come and buy their wares.

“You have to be very vigilant and observant to understand the tricks of these traders and what they are capable of doing. If your intelligence gathering is not sharp enough, you may discover that before you know what is happening, the traders will gradually find their way back to the road. So, as monitoring groups to patrol the length and breadth of Oshodi down to Mushin, we have the challenge of ensuring that the desperate traders do not find their way back to the road at Oshodi.

“It is not all of them that have come to terms with the need to relocate elsewhere. Oshodi was not originally designed as a trade post. It was the idea of some people who found it convenient to turn Oshodi into a market because of human traffic there. In the same way, they can make a legitimate market a functional place. Also, the issue of hoodlums at Oshodi, how to totally eradicate them to ensure the sustenance of the new Oshodi is another serious challenge to the monitoring units. Before now, the hoodlums lived on pickpocketing and snatching of people’s valuables.

But with what the state government has done to Oshodi, the hoodlums cannot be happy. Gradually, they will want to find their way back into the new Oshodi, which must be resisted by the monitoring groups set up by the government to sustain the sanity at Oshodi presently. It took the state government two months of rigorous efforts to clean Oshodi up, and the government is determined to sustain Oshodi”, the officer stressed.

@poster - What era of the constitutional book do check the age of marriage in your fatherland is 12? Speak up! So if ur right,i can marry u off now without any body sueing me? Shit!
NL,Abeg, all this aren't laws o0o,its not in the book of law.
In the North, girl USED to be married off early, that was long ago and it happened in almost all part the islamic countries in the world, not leaving Bahrain and India, even Egypt!
Girls aren't rush into marriage again except for ignorance which is a disease!
Do you mind checking the Nigerian constitution before denying it?. Why do we Nigerians derive joy from denying the ugly side of us?. Will the problem resolve itself by us hiding it?. The Nigerian constitution puts the marriage age at 12. That means you cannot sue any man that marries a 12 yr old girl for statutory rape in Nigeria. It's the law bu you musn't follow that aspect of law.

I think it's poverty that is the sole problem here. No comfortable parents will allow an adult male to dissect their 12 year old daughters kitten in the name of marriage.
