Politics / Open Letter To President Goodluck Jonathan And IGP Abubakar by stineb1: 12:22pm On May 24, 2013
We the Police Ambassadors; an alumni association of ex students of Police Secondary School Calabar, Lagos chapter commiserate with Mr. President, Inspector General of Police, the Police Force, State Security Service SSS, the slain officers’ families, the Nasarawa government and the entire Nation on the horrific death of Police officers on May 7, 2013 in Alakyo community of Nasarawa State.
We dare not pontificate about the nobility of the 46 policemen and 10 SSS operatives demise when their families nurse the excruciating pain of lost love ones and bread winners. Our prayers go to them. The outcome of their lives these past days is worst imagined than experienced. It is on this note that we thank the Minister of Police Affairs, the Police Service Commission and the IGP for the speedy disbursement of One million Naira for each murdered officer’s family; bearing in mind that more entitlements are on the way. Hopefully the Police sister body SSS have follow suit for their own; albeit in a discreet manner that typifies their operation.
We identify with the Police Force in this dark episode. We declare that such brazen attack on the Police, which is the constitutional security apparatus of Nigeria’s democratic existence, is an attack on the Nation. The offenders and murderers have committed treason. We condemn this act and desire the criminals be brought to justice. We extol the Police Force for their professionalism and restrain in spite of the instinctive lure to revenge the massacre by the Ombatse faithful. We applaud but yet are somber as you stay dutiful to God and Country. Thank you for being so exemplary; especially to the youths of this Nation.
Mr. President the saying uneasy lies the head that wears the crown has never been so lucid than in your administration. We admonish your love for this country- when you urgently responded to the purge of human lives in troubled areas by boycotting your State visit to Namibia and returning back home. More so your temperance in addressing the current State of Emergency in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states whilst Nasarawa was an obvious omission pays credence to your objectivity even when sporadic security breach would have caused your government to be reactionary. Thank you for exhibiting a thorough composure that is presidential. In this juncture we appreciate the support that your decision has garnered from the political class. It is noteworthy that the Executive powers of Nasarawa state rest on a political party different from the federal government hence their seamless partnership over this period is most commendable.
However it peeves us that certain element in the society has used this unfortunate incident to spread mockery of the Police Force. This people who are not worth naming have continued empty-gong noise in our civil state that is anti police and anti progress. Their lazy talk sadly causes distrust in government and its security.
Please permit my ensuing diversion; we the Police Ambassadors are former students of Police Secondary School Calabar. Actually our Alma mata is situated in Akpabuyo local government area in Cross River State. It is an area sandwiched between Calabar metropolis and then military occupied hotbed of Bakassi peninsula in the Nineties. We had to pass sandbagged Army checkpoints before crossing the Akpabuyo Bridge heading for our School. The crux of this story is that our caring Parents and Guardians found no better place to entrust our safety and education than in the Police School; it’s like we found peace in the middle of the storm. We are living testimonies of the benefit of trusting the Police Force in the face of bad occurrences. This is the herald of our ambassadorship to the general society. ‘We are happy to make IG proud’.
Once again accept our condolence. God bless us all.

Yours truly,

Obi Augustine Ubua

Health / What Most Nigerians Do not Know About Pregnancy Scan by stineb1: 8:25am On May 20, 2013
Sonography is a diagnostic medical procedure that uses high frequency sound waves to produce dynamic visual images of organs, tissues, or blood flow inside the body(Doppler)
There are several areas of specialization in the field of Sonography, which includes Obstetrics/Gynecology, Breast, scrotal, Abdominal, Cardiac, Vascular, musculoskeletal and Neurosonography.
Sonography is increasingly being used in the detection and treatment of heart disease, heart attack, and vascular disease that can lead to stroke. It is also used to guide needles for tissue biopsies taken for testing under a microscope.
A diagnostic medical Sonographer is a highly skilled specialist Radiographer or any well trained and certify Doctor/Nurse who uses specialized equipment to create images of structures inside the human body that are used for medical diagnostics purposes. The significance of diagnostic ultrasound procedures are numerous. But for the purpose of this post,I will only concentrate on Obstetrics(Pregnancy scan)
From my practice experience and interaction with patients, most of them believe that pregnancy scan is only meant to check Gender(sex) and presentation(position) of the fetus(Baby). I will like to correct that impression by stating that scan does more than the point mentioned above.
THE FOLLOWING ARE THE SEQUENCES FOR OBSTETRIC SCANS
1.Early Obstetric scan(Done between 5 weeks and 8 weeks to confirm cyesis(pregnancy)and its location,either intra-uterine and extra-uterine(Ectopic).
2.The second sequence is strongly advised at between 12-13 weeks Gestation Age to rule out(check for)Nuchal transluscency thickness, synonymous with DOWNE'S SYNDROME.
3.The Third sequence of scan is done at 20 weeks GA for final fetal anomaly(body abnormality). At this time the baby is completely formed,so it will be easy to pick any abnormality.
4.Sequence 4 is done at between 36 and 37 weeks(close to term) to asses for final fetal(baby) presentation and lie, prior to delivery.
However, scans can also be done as many times as possible in between the 2 and 4 sequences for fetal well being,Placenta location,Amniotic fluid volume,Fetal gross body activity/Heart Rate and gender.
The challenge posed to ultrasound practice in Nigeria, is the influx of quacks and untrained personels out there doing all sorts of unprofessional practices and issuing fake and complicated reports that are detrimental to the patients management, thereby defeating the essence of scan.
I strongly call on Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria(The Regulatory body for Radiology and Imaging practices, ultrasound inclusive)to declare a state of Emergency against unqualified personels, in order to safe the life of Innocent Nigerians who suffer consequences arising from misdiagnosis.

Remain Blessed and always ensure that you patronise a licensed professional for your scans.

Arrant nonsense! Didnt the military claim to have flushed out the terrorist in 6lthe town? So why the talk about terrorist again. The truth remains that the handlers of this presidency are grossly incompetent, lacking in depth and know very little about modern day governance.

As for the pledges, need I remind you that Borno people are yet to receive the pledges made by GEJ during His ill adviced visit to the state earlier this year? For crying out loud, how many promises or pledges has FG made to victims of terrorist attack and how many has she redeemed including those of Abuja Suleja bombings
why don't you just accept the defeat from the countering statements against your post? I can see that you are operating on a mind set

Gbawe:

Indeed. Their philosophy begins and ends with the sharing of Nigeria's commonwealth. Don't forget that this same Okupe said, in regards to the SW not having weighty federal positions, "when people come together to share scarce resources and you have no one to fight for you, then there is a problem".

Is that the sort of jeun-jeun charlatan and intellectual cretin anyone wants to take seriously? Anyone thinking the APC will not survive is 'dense' same as Okupe because evolution cannot be denied and the APC is the next stage in the political evolution of Nigeria occasioned by how what we have had for the past 14 years is a terrible and nightmarish monopoly. Simple as that.

Even non-Nigerians are praying for the success of the APC. At this stage with the entire world watching the wanton destruction of Nigeria by the PDP, Obama, Cameron, Merkel, Hollande, Zuma et al will probably contribute funds and support underground to the APC if only to ensure Nigeria has a viable alternative to sheer indolence, impunity and crass leadership inadequacy. Okupe should go and prepare for his future banishment into the wilderness like Aondoakaa.

All those foreign guys you mentioned above will rather remain unbiased without supporting either party as that will be in their best interest to do so. Mind you this is Nigeria and not Zimbabwe.

Its possible that the mother didn't do a 12th week and or 20 weeks routine obstetric scan required to rule out fetal anomaly.I personally suggest this to my patients when they come for scan because most Doctors do not know this sequence.Even if that lady had a late scan, towards 2nd or 3rd Trimester, someone who is not a trained medical Radiographer would most likely confuse findings with Twin Cyesis, because of the presented features on the fetal skull. Because I see no reason why this was not diagnosed prior to delivery.

lovethokoh: see more proof that northerners are richer than other Nigerians
https://www.nairaland.com/1199280/northerners-richer-than-all-other#14373185

i have been arguing lately with my friends about this topic, and i believed that the southerners are richer, until one of us came out with a vital data about the wealth of the Northerners.

1 The police pension DG is worth N23b Nigeria

2 Alhaji Abdulrashid Maina is worth N88b

3 IBB is worth over $2billion

4 Abacha is worth over $3Billion

5 Dangote is worth over $12b as the Richest African

4 Ishaiku Rabiu and sons are worth over $5b

6 Dantata is worth over $1b

The most critical of the data goes this way

7 the North has more LGA's infact Kano alone has 44 LGA's and so the North Receives more Allocation for development

8 The North Has more people in the federal civil service and so they earn more salaries

9 The North has more Men in Army,Navy,Airforce,Police, Immigration, customs and Other Federal parastatals due to quota system and so earn more salary.

10 They have more senators and House of Reps and therefore Get more constituency Money,Bribery etc

11 they have more politicians and so more money for them...

12 they own 83% of oil blocs in Nigeria
Southern Nigeria should start thinking of towing the path of Southern Sudan.

Basic: Of course, we should. Even though OBJ wasn't a good president, GEJ is worse.
Remember the Zaki Biam massacre ordered by OBJ? If it were to be GEJ, he'd say "We're on top of the situation."
Remember that there wasn't anything like BH during OBJ's regime?
At least, for those 2 reasons, OBJ may truly deserve some gratitude.

But, seriously, looking at it from another angle, I think GEJ is drunk. And we think we should all pardon a man for whatever he says when he's in such state. When he's expected to speak, he doesn't. And when he does, he spews BS!

Politics / Re: Babangida’s Endorsement Of APC Rattles PDP by stineb1: 9:36pm On Mar 02, 2013
Gbawe:

Correct. If we are a nation of people who have minimal political sophistication then it would be obvious that the serious treat of losing power can destroy the elite-centred lootocracy Nigeria has become. The argument over whether man is innately good or bad can go on forever. What cannot be disputed is the fact that lack of deterrent/punishment for wrong-doing give rise to the sort of nation Nigeria has become.

The truth is that the PDP has operated with callous impunity for 14 years as the ruling Party. Even if Nigerians are too bigoted and biased to appreciate it, there must be punishment for what the PDP is getting away with so as to maintain evolutionary order and a march forward. Vital to vote out non-performers so that a culture of "perform or be kicked out" is enshrined. By putting in the effort, even if making mistakes in the process, humanity will get where it needs to go. Doing Nothing is not an option if a Nation is ambitious and desirous of progress.

APC has risen up to challenge a Party that is one of the worst and most ineffective in the world in my opinion. Positive-minded Nigerians should be in support of the new Party and wish it success in rattling the comfort zone a very evil Party languish in to the detriment of Nigeria.
But what is the diffrence if 50 percent of the same PDP chieftains decamps to APC? That means we are still in thesame umbrella with a new platform.
