We’re celebrating Ironsi, Fajuyi to open new vista in Igbo-Yoruba relationship —Afenifere, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenife and its Igbo counterpart, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, have said that the planned joint celebration of former Head of State, Major-General Thomas Aguiyi-Ironsi and former Western State governor, Colonel Adekunle Fajuyi, who were both killed in July 29, 1966, counter-coup, is put together to open a new vista in Igbo-Yoruba relationship. The celebration tagged, “Handshake across the Niger,” organised by a Think-tank group, Nzoko Umunna, under the auspices of Afenifere and Ohanaeze Ndigbo, to hold January 11, in Enugu, is expected to witness the biggest gathering ever of Igbo and Yoruba. The planning committee for the event headed by Mr Yinka Odumakin, Senator Chris Anyanwun and Biodun Sowunmi, said this at a press conference it addressed in Lagos, describing both Ironsi and Fajuyi as gallant officers that deserved to be celebrated, having demonstrated a bond that passeth all understanding which still lived years after they had died Speaking on behalf of the committee, Odumakin, while recalling how both Ironsi and Fajuyi were killed by the coupists, said it was “difficult to celebrate one without mentioning the other as they became one inseparable spirit in their last hours on earth.” According to him, dignitaries expected at the event include governors, prominent Nigerians, traditional rulers, among others. “The event will hold under the joint chairmanship of former Chief of General Staff, Commodore Ebitu Ukiwe and the Olu of Ido-Ani, Oba (General) Olufemi Olutoye. “The chairman of Southern Governors’ Forum and Lagos State governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode; Chairman of South -East Governors’ Forum and Ebonyi State governor, Chief David Umahi; Abia State governor, Chief Okezei Ikpeazu and the Ekiti State governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, are special guests of honour expected on the occasion. “The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi and the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe, will be royal fathers of the day. “The leader of Afenifere, Chief R. F. Fasoranti and President- General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief John Nwodo, will receive guests in the Coal City. We look forward to a big celebration of friendship, harmony and inter-ethnic understanding in Enugu, on January 11, Odumakin said. Noting that the wrong narratives over the years had been the defining points of Igbo-Yoruba relationship while playing to the background this finest moment of the uncommon bond, Odumakin said it was now a new day as the best of Yoruba and Igbo gathered to celebrate Ironsi and Fajuyi as well as construct the East-West bridge of understanding. It will be recalled that Ironsi was in Ibadan as guest of Fajuyi to address natural rulers which he already did when the coupists stormed the Government House, Ibadan, arrested the duo, took them to a village near Lalupon, killed and buried them in a shallow grave. http://www.tribuneonlineng.com/celebrating-ironsi-fajuyi-open-new-vista-igbo-yoruba-relationship-afenifere-ohanaeze-ndigbo/

oodualover:...and who are these people....? Why can't they help to develop the brown roof cities of ibadan, Akure, Oshogobo and Abeokuta...?
|
Obi1kenobi:You lie....the Aworis and not the Yorubas...Haven't you seen that the Hausa/Fulanis who are bigger group like the Yorubas unlike the small Aworis the true owners of Lagos....have retained the custodianship of the capital as well? How many southerners have been the minister? Yourbas are land grabbers...to convince all of you prowers...develop one Yoruba city to be like Lagos... |
oodualover:In few years time he will build his house in Lagos...Would you say the same thing about Rasheed the tout...
|
Alcatraz005:Sustained by other Nigerians? You are a joke. It is rather the other way round. Go to your village now and you will see an Igbo person providing services and commerce...You can't say that of your tribe in other parts of Nigeria...so? It is one Nigeria, ogbeni... |
Alcatraz005:Support them...with MASSOB and your misery and wicked pain will end...but your greed, morbid fear, and treachery will not let you...so the option you have would be to stew in your ewedu juice...One Nigeria it is, ogbeni... |
oodualover:To end your misery...support Kanu...and your pains will end... ![]() |
"....This is why I don't blame Lagos state government officials trying through legislation to preserve the Yoruba character of Lagos by compelling Yoruba teaching in schools and also holding legislative deliberations in Yoruba..." OP will you also not blame the FCT minister if Gwari is made compulsory in Abuja? Lagos has always been distinct from the rest of the Yoruba cities... ...Lagos Colony was a British colonial possession centred on the port of Lagos in what is now southern Nigeria. Lagos was annexed on 6 August 1861 under the threat of force by Commander Beddingfield of HMS Prometheus who was accompanied by the Acting British Consul, William McCoskry. Oba Dosunmu of Lagos (spelled "Docemo" in British documents) resisted the cession for 11 days while facing the threat of violence on Lagos and its people, but capitulated and signed the Lagos Treaty of Cession.[1] Lagos was declared a colony on 5 March 1862.[2] By 1872 Lagos was a cosmopolitan trading center with a population over 60,000.[3] In the aftermath of prolonged wars between the mainland Yoruba states, the colony established a protectorate over most of Yorubaland between 1890 and 1897.[4] The colony and protectorate were incorporated into Southern Nigeria in February 1906, and Lagos became the capital of the protectorate of Nigeria in January 1914.[2] Since then, Lagos has grown to become the largest city in West Africa, with an estimated metropolitan population of over 9,000,000 as of 2011.[5] Leave Lagos alone and go fight for Ibadan, Abeokuta, Akure, Ado Ekiti, etc... |
oodualover:Will it be good for you for the Gbagis to claim Abuja, just like the Yorubas are claiming Lagos? |
sarrki:Go and replicate Lagos in other Yoruba cities...then I will take you serious.... |
python1:You are deeply shameless...Did it say the NSA should be the one to pay Buhari...even it if were his pension...?Look yourself in the mirror and you will see a deeply gullible charlantan... |
shukuokukobambi:Read you comments again and see how you needed to focus on what you do best...skull mining...full of shitty deceit..
|
I wish a clean leader in Nigeria who is fearless and mad...who would arrest all known political corrput persons in Nigeria as done in Saudi Arabia and Zimbabwe...People from IBB, to OBJ to Atiku to Buhari...to Anyim to Tinubu to Farouk to Otedole, Diezena, Patience, Abacha family....With more than 500 arrests...They will would have refunded as much as $100 billion...With this the monies would be shared across the six geo political zones for rapid infrastructural investment as needed by the zones...The federal government should not just invest in the north and the south west... After this, the growth of Nigeria will be so fast it will chasing down Indonesia and Malaysia...No sane individual would steal billions again... |
python1:State anywhere in the constitution where it is said that the NSA should give Buhari $300,000? Nigeria is stupidly backwards because the law of the land is not equal for all. |
shukuokukobambi:So IPOB is now all Igbos...that includes the Ohaneze...? Afonja and skull mining...dreams... |
ImperialYoruba: Just like the afonjas built bridges when only Falae and Obasanjo contested in 1999 as they goty numbers..Afonjaaaaaaa and deceit.... |

Google is changing its logo to a doodle in honor of the late Chinua Achebe, who is considered to be one of Africa's greatest storyteller. He would have been 87 on Thursday. Born in Ogidi to an Igbo family in 1930, Achebe was the son of an evangelical priest. In love with reading and writing, he completed English studies at the University of Ibadan in just four years instead of five, which was the standard. Achebe was disappointed in the European interpretation of African culture and the ignorance about the continent and its people. He co-founded Citadel Press with renowned writer Christopher Okigbo to publish better quality children books for African children. In 1958, he published his first and most widely read novel, Things Fall Apart. The novel portrays the clash of cultures that took place when Christian missionaries and Western colonials encountered traditional African societies in the 19th century. Things Fall Apart is still one of the most read books in modern African literature. The novel sold over 12 million copies and was translated into more than 50 languages. In 1961, he married Christie Okoli and had four children. He also worked for the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation. When Biafra broke away from Nigeria in 1967, Achebe became a strong Biafran supporter. He wrote about the dire conditions of Biafran refugees in "Refugee Mother and Child": Of unwashed children with washed-out ribs And dried-up bottoms waddling in labored steps, Behind blown-empty bellies. Other mothers there Had long ceased to care, but not this one In 1969, frustrated by corruption and political unrest in Nigeria, Achebe relocated to the United States as a university lecturer. He returned to Nigeria in 1971 and worked as an English professor. In 1990 Achebe was in a car crash in Nigeria that left him permanently paralyzed and in a wheelchair. That same year he relocated back to the US and taught at Bard College for 15 years. Achebe joined Brown University as a professor of African Studies in 2009. He was awarded 30 honorary degrees from universities around the world. He won many literary awards, from the inaugural Nigerian National Merit Award in 1979 to the Man Booker International Prize for Fiction in 2007. He also won The Dorothy and Lillian Gish Prize in 2010 which is an annual prize given to "a person that has made an outstanding contribution to the beauty of the world and to mankind's enjoyment and understanding of life." He died in Boston on March 21, 2013, at the age of 82. http://saharareporters.com/2017/11/16/google-doodle-honors-chinua-achebe

By Levinus Nwabughiogu ABUJA – Barely 48 hours after President Muhammadu Buhari asked Ndigbo of the South East to halt secession struggle and embrace national integration, the National Chairman of Northern Nigeria Union, Professor Ango Abdulahi, has said that Nigeria’s unity was not settled. He also said President Buhari’s endorsement and adoption for a second term in office in 2019 by the North was not automatic. ADVERTISING Abdulahi spoke, last night, at a news conference in Abuja on the union’s readiness to host the 5th Commemorative lecture in honour of late Dr. Olusola Saraki on November 27 at International Conference Centre, ICC. The elder-statesman said it would be inhuman to say that the unity of Nigeria had been settled, noting that the many challenges still bedeviling the polity would always prompt questions about the unity of the country. He said: “Two days, I spent about 2 hours of interview with Biafra Radio of Germany and the issues have been unity, marginalization, dissatisfaction and so on and so forth. ‘’So, based on this current debate, if you want to be honest and sincere, you cannot say that Nigeria’s unity has been finally settled and no more issues will be raised about it because it is not even human to say so, in the sense that if you’re really thinking about the constitution of the country, no constitution anywhere around the world is perfect. “Issues are being raised about constitutions of countries within themselves. Take for example, recent discourse in Britain; there was the issue of referendum to determine whether Scotland wants to remain or not after 350 years. ‘’You can see what is happening in Spain today. You can look at very many other countries like India, which started with one country, the following year, it is India and Pakistan, etc. Unity is not a final settled question in any country, particularly a country in diversity like Nigeria.” Read more at: https://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/11/cant-say-nigerias-unity-finally-settled-ango-abdullahi/

Michael004:So what advise do you have to give to your big mouth Yoruba kinsmen, who said that the SE people are illiterate for rejecting the vaccine? |
Michael004:Ondo state has the highest number of professors in Nigeria...I am amazed how ignorant and gullible you are for not taking the vaccine. Ignorance is a disease in the SW ![]() |
In few days time the same uniform personel will take their medical help to the same community and the afonjas from the West will call them ignorant and gullible if they reject the offer... |
Put pictures or nobody will believe you... |
If only these rudderless organisations could look at the root cause of disunity first...Campaigning for unity when the cause of the disunity is obvious and unresolved is silly...It will not achieve anything... |
