The military should leave this scheme to the ministry of health. If they have free time, they their engineering corp should embark on road and bridge repairs as done in some part of the world. Those will be more beneficial.

By Joseph Erunke ABUJA— Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State, yesterday, said over 50 million Nigerians of northern extraction live in poverty. The governor also lamented that the region was faced with five most serious problems, which he enumerated to include low literacy, poverty, poor healthcare, unproductive population and bad economic position. Gov Kashim Shettima of Borno State. Shettima, who is the Chairman, Northern Governors’ Forum, said he relied on recent research data released by experts, which indicated that of the 79.6 million Nigerians living in poverty, over 50 million of them, representing about 70 per cent, live in the 19 northern states of Nigeria. To this end, the governor entered into a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with General Electric, GE, to enhance healthcare delivery in all northern states. Signing the MoU in Abuja, yesterday, the governor, who noted that governors of the region were taking very determined steps to rewrite the northern story from different perspectives, regretted that unproductive population in the North had resulted in lack of affordability for the most basic of healthcare services. Shettima said: “It is a tall and tough task but where there is the will, there is always the way and one of these ways is partnership with General Electric in our very sincere bid to improve healthcare infrastructure in the region.” ‘’As we go towards implementation, we should bear in mind that the lives of many people in Northern Nigeria depend on how quickly we are able to continually improve access to quality and affordable healthcare. “Series of report by the World Health Organisation gives records of high maternal, infant and under five-old mortality in the northern population. “We have since resolved to productively invest on sound and measured basic education. We resolved to have strong bias for girl-child education.” “It is always a pleasure for me whenever I have something to do with General Electric. This, of course, is for the simple reason that General Electric is sincere in partnerships, committed to pursuing goals and most importantly, very compassionate about supporting us to address key problems bedeviling us in Northern Nigeria. “In three successive years, I have been privileged to have productive affiliations with the General Electric. In October, 2015, I was present when the General Electric presented a cheque of millions dollars to the UNICEF, which at that time, was the highest private sector intervention in support of internally displaced persons in Borno State. “In November, 2016, I was mandated by my colleagues from the Northern Governors Forum to sign an MOU with the General Electric for the establishment of solar plants to generate combined electricity of 500 Megawatts from five States in Northern Nigeria. “In October, 2017, I am here again, to once again, on behalf of my colleagues, sign another MOU with General Electric for upgrade of healthcare infrastructures in Northern Nigeria. “The Northern Governors Forum is absolutely committed to this partnership and we have supreme confidence in our selfless and versatile Malam Tanimu Yakubu Kurfi, who is heading the Northern Nigeria Global Economic Re-integration Programme which is the facilitator of today’s partnership.’’ Read more at: https://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/10/50m-northerners-living-poverty-gov-shettima/ |

Tam David West...who is yet to see fuel prices come to N40 per liter...is having issues sending data to the press. He will soon tell you how things are done at NNPC...and that Buhari was right to sign contracts on his sick bed...How did he scrutinize the contracts? Is there any surprised why this country is in a mess. A country that still export crude and yet import the refined products...Shame. |

“But when the crunch came, his allegiance to Nigeria disappeared. In the election of the (Organization of African Unity) OAU Secretary-General in 1985, Buhari voted against Nigeria and for Niger instead. He secured the election of Ide Oumarou, a Fulani man from Niger; as opposed to an Igbo man (Peter Onu, Acting Secretary-General OAU 1983 – 1985) from Nigeria. By so doing, Buhari became the first and only Head of State in the history of modern international relations to vote against his country in favour of his tribe.” ----- Femi Aribisala Vanguard News Tuesday February 3, 2015 I will not be surprised if this president orders that Oxygen should be cut off from the atmosphere around SE... |

See what Gani said about this trend that has continued... "...The Igbo by their contribution to the economic development of this country are otherwise called the Jews of Nigeria. They are very hard-working, very industrious, very innovative and very articulate people. The economic development of this country owes much to their contribution. I don’t like the way they have been treated since 1970. They still bear the scars of the Biafran crisis, and they are still being treated as if the civil war is still nascent, which is wrong. They have been kept out of the security forces of this country at the strategic levels, the law enforcement of this country at the most strategic levels, they are ignored, despised by the cabal. Even in the civil service, I do not know how many permanent secretaries are Igbo. I am not sure how many senior police officers are Igbo, and same goes for the Navy, Air Force, and the Army. They are one of the largest groups in this country. In fact, it is a nation within a nation. The major manpower pool of this country is being supplied by the Igbo. I was so angry when Abacha came to establish the Provisional Ruling Council (PRC) and the Igbo were not represented; I went to court to fight the cause of the Igbo. It was after my suit in court, challenging Abacha and asking that PRC composition be set aside by the court until Igbo were given their rightful place that Abacha then reversed the composition of PRC and appointed some Igbo..." What other way would people try to convince others that Buhari don't hate the Igbo people? Not one person from the SE region is in that meeting. The SE comprise of the the Igbo tribe, a major tripod in the Nigeria project. The Igbo tribe were a major force for the independence of Nigeria. There is no reason to exclude them in the security cadre, no matter the voting parttern. All the years yorubas were in opposition and even during the military regime, they always have a representative in that cadre. Why is the demo-military dictator Buhari behaving as is Nigeria is still in the military era? How long would the Igbo people be punished for the civil war? People agitating against this deprivation and subjuagtion are branded terrorist. Where do you see a thug beating a child and asking the child not to cry? |

GOVERNORS from the South-South and South-East geopolitical zones are poised to take a common position on issues of inter-regional cooperation at a joint meeting coming up today in Owerri, the Imo State capital. A notice of the meeting was, however, not explicit on the main issues that would top discussions by the governors, as it only said it was meant to be a regular consultation. The notice, which was signed by the Akwa Ibom governor, Udom Emmanuel, the interim chairman stated: “This meeting will provide an avenue for deliberation on various issues of regional and national importance with a view to enhancing collaboration on matters of common interest to the overall benefit of the citizens and residents of the states in these regions.” The warning by President Muhammadu Buhari, in his Independence Day, broadcast that his government would not allow irresponsible groups to undermine the sovereignty of the country, had provoked anger from some leaders from the South, especially the South-East, which is the hotbed of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB). At a similar parley held in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital about some weeks ago, the leaders agreed to collaborate on all matters affecting the two zones. http://www.tribuneonlineng.com/restructuring-south-south-south-east-leaders-meet-today-imo/

Can anybody remember any probe done by NASS that came to anything? Remember the N30 trillion probe and others. It will be silly for me to say that I am sick and tired of this Lugards contraption. Most of the fedreal roads, from Apapa to MMIA roads, Ilorin to Jebba road, Epkoma to Abuja road, Enugu to Onitsha and Enugu to PH federal roads...na the same story. When can things be done well in this country? The gullible masses are not helping...at all. No protests, no demostration...nothing..Election will still go ahead in Anambra, Ekiti and Ondo. Why vote for people that will increase your misery. Are Nigerians under a spell or something? 55 people embezzle $6.2 billion...and nobody is doing anything. No NLC, NANs, NUPENG, ASUU protests...Nigeria is clearly doomed. |
The biggest achievement of the SW and the feudal north is to ensure that SS and SE are divided...Then the biggest achievement of the feudal north is to make sure the south is further divided between the SW Vs the SS/SE....The annoying part is that many people from the south especially the SW and SS are happy about this...The north believes in their 19 states. The south hardly believe in their 17 states.. |
