prospero5:Biafra issue would not have been an issue but the central government are doing everything possible to provoke them. The only thing slowing down the Biafran agitation is because there are many Igbos outside the eastern region...If not...How many people can endure the continuous humuliation and killing of unarmed agitation? |
A home-made device exploded overnight near a police station in Cameroon’s restless English-speaking region, where separatist leaders have launched a campaign for independence, concurring sources said Tuesday. There were no reported casualties, they said. The bomb detonated near a police unit called the Mobile Intervention Group in Bamenda, the chief city in the Northwest Region, a security official said, speaking on condition of anonymity. The information was confirmed separately to AFP by an official with the regional government, who added that another device nearby was safely defused by police. There was no claim of responsibility by late afternoon. The blast came after a weekend of violence in which 19 people were killed in the English-speaking Northwest and Southwest regions as the authorities clamped down on a symbolic declaration of independence for “Ambazonia,” the name of the state radical anglophones wish to create. Fourteen died in clashes with security forces, and five were prisoners shot by guards in an attempted jail break at Kumbo, according to an AFP toll. Cameroon, a francophone-majority nation in central-western Africa, has a large anglophone minority, comprising about a fifth of its population of 22 million. English-speakers complain they suffer inequality and discrimination — a resentment that has fuelled a breakaway movement that culminated Sunday in a symbolic declaration of independence from the rest of Cameroon. President Paul Biya strongly opposes independence, as well as a less radical alternative for a return to a federal structure, which the country once had. Home-made bombs exploded in Bamenda on September 18 and September 22 in Douala, Cameroon’s economic hub, which is in a francophone region. The blasts prompted the government to ratchet up its response to anglophone agitation, notably calling the separatists “terrorists”. This was followed by orders for a three-day curb on movement in the two anglophone areas, coinciding with the independence declaration. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Amnesty International have called on Cameroon to investigate the fatalities, and the European Union and France, the country’s former colonial power, have urged dialogue and non-violence. Cameroon was a German colony from 1884 until 1919, when it was split into British- and French- run entities at the end of World War I. Today’s anglophone-francophone rift dates back to 1961, when the British-administered Southern Cameroons united with Cameroon after its independence from France in 1960. OreMI22:I agree with you on this one. I have added a post some time ago about the highlighted section of your post. I don't know why the early planners didn't plan to dualise that road at the beginning. If inner city roads like Ogui and New Haven roads are dualised why not this major road leading travellers all from the northern part of the country to SS region. Dualising the road will increase the pace of development in the area...even as the federal university of ICT and many estates are coming up there...There are ELIM estate, Vyvian estate, NCC/Federal ICT university, Network estate and others... If I was part of the state town planners...that section of the city should be called Nike Lake City or Lake City....with bars, recreational facilities, shopping malls, schools, gas stations, office facilites/business centres, Fast Food eatries, banks, even hotels, etc...Enugu central is already congested.

eports say that the leadership of the Senate and governors from South East are to meet President Muhammadu Buhari on ways to resolve the crises emanating from the series of ethnic agitations. The senators’ resolve to meet with the executive was reached on Tuesday at its resumption after eight-week recess. The meeting is to cement the agreement by South East and northern senators on their position on agitation for Biafra. Senate President Bukola Saraki read out the summary of the outcome of the meeting, stating that “At about 12.30 pm, we concluded our closed-door session. “We deliberated on key national issues and resolved as follows that the unity of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is non-negotiable. “We also resolved to seek all lawful avenues to ensure that peace is restored to all parts of Nigeria. “All groups or associations currently in agitations for one reason or the other should do so through the laws of the land.” Also governors of the five states in the South East will soon meet with President Muhammadu Buhari, on Biafra agitations in the region. Chairman of the South East Governors’ Forum and Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief David Umahi, disclosed this during the 2017 Ebonyi Peace Day celebration at Ezillo, in Ishielu Local Government Area of the state, “I was able to hold a private discussion with our dear president. We have discussed all issues of agitations and Mr. President is going to further the discussions with South East governors. “And, I want to assure our people that all our concerns will be addressed, under peace, with our President. And Mr. President sends his regards to Igbo people.” Umahi added that he was shocked by the President’s humility when he listened attentively and gave him a dose of humour during the discussion, in New York. “I said ‘sir, you have a very good heart.’ This was because, in the course of our discussion, he said something. He said it doesn’t matter what people say about you; that what matters is God that sent you. And when God sends you, you should do justice to all and leave the rest to God. “So, it doesn’t matter how we feel. What matters is that we must use dialogue, peaceful approach, prayers, commitment and love, to get to where we want to be. And, before now, we were noted for hard work. We must go back to it. We must go back to loving ourselves,” Umahi said. At another forum, Umahi said he would, next week, lead his colleagues in the South-East and other stakeholders in Igboland, to the 2017 National Conference of the Igbo Christian Restoration Assembly (ICRA).(NAN) https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/news/general/senate-south-east-governors-to-meet-buhari-over-agitations/216186.html

spyder880:What is happening in Enugu? Spyder you always bombard us with beautiful pictures when the past administration was in power. Now there is nothing to show. It will be very painful for us to start seeing images of refuse dumps. But then you have to do what you have to, to ensure that the government will listen and act. Thanks |
PointZerom: It means that Nigeria has three terrorist groups. When you add Boko and fulani herdsmen who are ranked the 4th deadliest group in the world. Just tell me which investor will come to Nigeria...leaving peaceful Ghana, Togo, even Benin republic. Look at how Nigeria shoots itself on its foot. |
Geogeben:How many Nigerians were in UK, when Nigeria got independence from Britain...? Lazy leaders everywhere!! |
IkpuMmiri:...and there was no hatred when MASSOB was formed in 1999? Agitation has been on since after the war. |
Nigeria is where it is today because majority of the people have no idea about what is going on. Who told you people that the Igbos and the Hausas or Yorubas don't co-habit well? Who told you people? The problem of the Igbos is with Nigeria. It is with the federal government hatred and not with individuals or tribes. So what would the match achieve? Once the federal do the right thing, the agitation will die off by itself. See>>> "IPOB agitations, others will continue except…" — ...urged the federal government to see to equitable and justifiable distribution of the nation’s resources among the various zones to put an end to intermittent agitations by various groups..." Alariwo2:All the top tier banks in Nigeria are headed by these people. Even the deputy MD of your GTB is from that small region. 90% of your footballers are from that region. 70% of FDI for remittance from people in diaspora which was $21 billion in 2015, came from that region. IGR my foot. No city other than Lagos, Abuja and PH can compare with cities in the small region. So what are you killing yourself with hate for? Is that how to defeat a region you feel is barren? Show us a link where boko haram received such attention, like the sponspors, etc, etc.? The shame is on you. Just look at the one that feeds the other. |
funlord:I have no issue about what the federal government want to do. But can you or anybody please send us any link where the federal government took same action against Boko haram? Partiality is the main reason many sensible people have a rethink about this country. |
KanuIsCursed:Will that increase your power supply? Will that make you refine your crude products in NIgeria? Nigeria remains the only country that refine their crude oil overseas. Will that make Buhari and other not spend money on medical tourism? Will that improve the condition of federal roads in the country? Will that create yout employment? Will that improve the standard of education in the country? Will that improve, on health, water resources and security in the country? Finally, will it stop the agitations across the country? |
