Perhaps we should sell weapons to their enemies.

Lots of cash to be made from all those Niger Delta arms.

Politics / Re: Lagos Begins Stop And Search Tax Policy. Slams N0.62m Tax On Luxury Car by strangleyo: 2:24pm On Oct 23, 2009
Taxes are taxes. In developed countries, they are as common as death.

It is only natural there will be backlash. In countries such as Canada, the USA and Britain, the Local governments are responsible for utilities, schools, hospitals, and so on. Everyone is taxed, in Canada and America, there are no payments transferred from the Federal Government to local governments. LGs must fend for themselves AND pay to the federal government for national services such as professional army, land taxes and so on.

This is another push for true Federalism from the Fashola Administration which is trying to move away from the dependence of federal allocations.

Paying taxes hurts, but not paying them hurts even more in the long run.

Many Nairalanders complain about the "north" sucking the south dry, well, this is a first step to real federalism, revenues being generated locally through tax collection.

The Oil won’t be there forever, generating revenue at the grass-roots must start somewhere.

Its interesting that there are militias in Nigeria with such power.

The FG is losing power.

Politics / Nigeria Is Not All Bad by strangleyo: 2:38pm On Oct 15, 2009
Look at it this way. Nigeria is a nation of 150m people. We're not starving (we could like Kenya, Ethiopia, Sudan), we're not in complete anarchy (Uganda, Somalia, Koni's LRA etc).

Our people aren't exterminating each other (sort of, when the Housa aren't rampaging around) like in so many other parts of Africa. And while crime is bad, its nowhere near the levels seen in South Africa.

For what it worth, lets count our blessings and work hard to make this nation work. It could be far worse.

I fear if we split we will end up like Ivory Coast or Liberia.

Politics / Re: Which City In Nigeria Would You Like To Live In? Why? by strangleyo: 3:05pm On Oct 11, 2009
Ikoyi or Victoria Island.

Because I like the big city, but I hate slums and crime. I like taking long walks without fear of being robbed and shot.

I like clean, organized, and well ran cities. Vic Isle and Ikoyi are the closest to that in Nigeria.
Politics / Re: What Will Cause WWIII by strangleyo: 4:23am On Oct 11, 2009
Unless a third world war is in Africa Nigeria should not concern itself. Wars cause too much expense.

It will be a sad day to see Nigerian youth dying in another white war.

If its in Africa, that's a whole different story.

Foreign Affairs / Re: Demise Of The Dollar. Oil Producers, Consumers In Secret Talks To Replace $ by strangleyo: 2:57am On Oct 07, 2009
America will pay dearly for electing a black president. Nations of the world are far
more racist towards blacks and feel they are too superior to continue to enrich a nation run by a black man.

Politics / Re: Video: Massacre In Guinea. Is African Leaders Crazy? by strangleyo: 9:39pm On Sep 29, 2009
Thats because Naija army will massacre Nigeria people. African militaries are savage and there is no real discipline. It is why our armies fall so easily to an organized foe.

I bet Kamara can't control them for shit.

Travel / Re: Canada Or The Uk (london)which Is Better To Study? by strangleyo: 8:59pm On Sep 27, 2009
In Canada you can apply for immigrant status after graduating. If you can find a job as a through co-op, and/or work after 1 year you can get permanent residency.

In the UK they toss you out after you finish.

That being said if you're thinking about going back to Naija after graduation then I'd say the UK (Especially if a top tier university).
Foreign Affairs / Re: Angola's AMAZING Post-War Transformation by strangleyo: 6:54pm On Sep 27, 2009
If Nigeria had FREE and FAIR elections our politicians would not be looting because they know of the consequences.

Nigerian elections are just installations of cronies.
