I wish Nigeria had such arrangement for average citizens. As a civil servant, I've not been able to access Nationa Housing Scheme (NHS). Certain highly placed individuals were demanding for a percentage of the money before they even consider processing. . . 🤐

The small bank loan I collected to complete my house, The useless bank wants to stranglē me with outrageous interest rates that have more than doubled in the last two years 😭💔💔💔

To import a second hand vehicle, Nigerian Customs will practically drain the last bloød out of you. One can't even dream of acquiring a brand new car in Nigeria without having High Bloød Pressure 😞
Govt have a role to play but these are private sector driven. Besides the average Nigeria is not a good debtor. There are many reasons why these cannot work for the average Nigerian. You're just affected by a "system". It is what it is.

I usually laugh at these type of comments cos its bereave of common sense, no offense, let me explain.

If you are an average Nigerian, employed and doing well for yourself, before you can settle down to own a befitting car and a house of your own, you will be in your late 30's or 40's which you will consider yourself among the 5% extra lucky

Now, a young man in diaspora either by mortgage (that you belittling here) or outright purchase has those things earlier in life and enjoyed them throughout his life whereas, you in Nigeria or Africa get to own those thing at your mid or late years.

Pray tell, can you enjoy a fast car at 60 years or is it when you retire that you wanted to start living in your smart house? Any luxury that you can't enjoy when you are young and agile is utmost useless. Why we are like this is this country is that we lack efficient credit line which would enable us enjoy life and put almost everyone on same pedestal.

Quit listening to motivational speakers about buying multiple lands and building house when you are 50 years and above cos immediately after your demise, the probability of the house which would be your greatest asset being sold is almost 90%

Gracias
You're trying so hard to explain what's irrelevant.
bdon123 stated a fact and you went off-topic.
The individual doesn't own the house, the house can be foreclosed or repossessed if he doesn't meet the terms of the mortgage.
Such credit facilities are not available to most Nigerians so many of us would think it was bought outright.
It's true that he's a home owner but incorrect to state that he's a landlord.
We should be transparent with our achievements.

But why are Vehicle manufacturers not producing cars with factory fitted CNG?... instead they chose to produce electric cars.
This is a valid question.
Electric is cleaner than CNG just as CNG burns cleaner than petrol.
There's already a transition to electric vehicles so it makes no sense to mass produce CNG vehicles.

CNG was not widely adopted due to lack of infrastructure, it has a shorter driving range than gasoline vehicles and more expensive to produce.

In terms of fuel costs, CNG is less expensive than petrol and it's also cleaner for the environment.
It's used in some US cities as fuel for buses and fleet vehicles.

DWJourney:
Hi guys,

Please, I will appreciate it if anyone knowledgeable about this can reply.

One of my relatives immigrant visas is on processing. We received a below message even after everything is submitted, now, we are not really clear on how to specifically attend to this. There's no any family member that can stand as a sponsor again here.

Instruction received:

" The income reported as stated on form I-864, I-864A is insufficient to overcome the public charge grounds of inadmissibility for visa issuance. To avoid delays, an additional Affidavit of Support Form I-864 from a joint sponsor may be submitted. A consular officer will decide if you meet these requirements at the time of the interview. Note: You, as the sponsor, and any other sponsors household members and joint sponsors, must provide updated or additional evidence for the applicant to present at the time of their interview such as: Other income, Assets, Proof of current employment. You can continue to upload documents to CEAC up until the date of your visa interview "

My question, is it also possible to attach bank statement of the sponsor showing savings to that can cover the remaining fund required?

And, is there anyway we can contact CEAC?

This petition was filed in Dec 2022 and we are only waiting for this Mama interview date in Lag.

@Taal17, @Aestake , please guys
Thanks
The form is to show that the sponsor have adequate means of financial support.

You filed with your federal income tax return for the most recent tax year or other evidence of reported income. So what has changed?

Get a co-sponsor or if you think you omitted some income file it. The point is to show you meet the minimum financial requirements.

Even though I don't supprt what the idiot did, but lawyers in the house don't you think he might have a case here?

Now here it is...dating apps say 18 years and above. So for you to be in that app, it is assumed you're 18 years or older or you possibly lied about your age which is deceitful.
So I don't know, but he can argue that he didn't believe her since the rule says 18 and above and that was why he continued chatting with her, especially as it was just word of mouth and no real age evidence was shown.

I am just saying, I don't know though. Lawyers would know better, over to you.
I want to learn...
The laws do not take into account that she may have lied and sign up on the app. Always understand that the law is made to protect minors. They are vulnerable, inexperienced and can be stupid.
If a minor approached you and stated she was 18 when you can clearly see that she was a minor, will you take advantage of her because she lied about her age?
Some of these apps allow you to have an account with consent of your parent/guardian. We can't go into the specifics of this case since we don't have the full details.
In this case, the guy cannot be excused because she stated that she was a minor, he should have fled.
Now, if she had stated an adult age, the guy could still be charged depending on the chats. He's an adult and adults should be responsible.

Hello, I have a question concerning B1/B2 visitors visa

I am a phD student currently living in the US. My husband who is on an F2 visa is living with me too. I am pregnant and I plan on bringing my mom over to do omugo for me when I give birth next year. Under the section who will sponsor her trip, is it wise to put my sister as her sponsor.
Note: My mom has a flourishing business, but she doesn't have enough money in her account since she uses her money to build houses and do investment immediate.
Who do you think should sponsor her
Her self
my sister who works with CBN or
Me (I am already taking care of my husband who is a dependent)
Also I will appreciate any additionaltipsp or information that could help boost her application.

Thank you.
You don't need a sponsor for a B1/B2 visa. You're referring to the person paying for the trip. So fill in who's fulfilling that responsibility. Account statements are not needed. What she's coming to do and other details takes precedence over whoever is paying for the trip. Hopefully she'll be there to assist but I always advice everyone have a plan B.

There's nothing to be shameful about a visa denial. The decision was not based on the transcript above. You can always reapply.

It doesn't work that way. Politics is local. Obi is just being a loyal party man and we can't fault him for that. Firstly, there was the issue of equity (power returning to EDO CENTRAL), and then the sentiments about if LP can defend people's votes (which they currently lack the capacity to do). Given, Obidients are emotional about seeing Nigeria work, but they clearly have no idea how to achieve that. It is safe to say Tinubu's re-election in 2027 is done and dusted. If opposition knew what they were doing they should be pushing for electoral reforms now. Instead, they're busy making noise on SM.
Well, I wish Nigeria well even if APC captures all the states in Nigeria. After all, they've been excellent since 2015.

There have been similar cases on this even up till the Supreme Court and the results have always been the same.

That's what I explained on that thread..... So many.

An aspirant can sue because he is backed by Section 84, however adhoc delegates aren't because they have no support in the Electoral Act. The party reserves a right to refuse to sell them forms and there is nothing they can do about it.

For Ojezua, he wouldn't have gotten reprieve on any way, why?
His matter predicates on issues that are pre-primary, the Courts have no jurisdiction.

Our laws are replete with cases as such, so it's September 21 now.
I understand the Electoral Act, particularly Section 84, which stipulates that only aspirants who participated in a primary election can challenge the candidates. This provision is a repeal of the previous Electoral Act.

My concern has always been whether technicalities should consistently take precedence over the merits of a case. The same Act states that "when a political party fails to comply with the provisions of this Act in the conduct of its primaries, the candidate for election shall not be included..." There was a clear violation of the Electoral Act and party constitution, yet the court chose to focus on locus standi rather than addressing the substance of the violation.

As I mentioned earlier, I believe all candidates should have the opportunity to test their popularity on the field. I'm not in favor of judicial intervention in political matters, just as I'm not supportive of the Machiavellian tactics employed by parties.

I told y'all they do not have locus standi.
I foresee this case reaching the Supreme Court, where it is likely that the appellate ruling will be upheld based on similar technicalities.

If we exclude the lawful delegates on the grounds of lacking locus standi, an aspirant who does have locus standi filed, but was dismissed for not exhausting internal party mechanisms. grin grin grin

This situation creates a free-for-all in political parties, where unlawful actions may be justified under claims of jurisdiction, party mechanisms, or locus standi. It's now a matter of who has the war chest.

As a result, case's merit are never fully addressed.

All those people you helped is an example of social capital. I even wrote emphatically above that "Ignorance is the opposite of Capital" I suspect you just read the first line of the comment and posted your response. You missed some nuance.

What you wrote about the possibilities of the information age is very correct though. Many top musicians and actors got where they are by leveraging on the social & financial capital of family experience. However, the availability of instant mass communication enables contestants on say, American Idol to leap into great success without having any such "capital".

It's all good though. What matters is the long run outcomes for collectives.

Good Luck to Nigerians.

Money or more precisely CAPITAL, trumps all.
That's what the media wants everyone to believe. We're now living in the Information Age: Knowledge is Power. Access to information is a powerful tool for success. It allows people to make informed decisions, innovate, and stay competitive in various fields. My success is not because I'm smart or brilliant but I took advantages of opportunities that were available to me. Between 2012 and 2014, a friend and I assisted over a hundred Nigerian students gain admission to a uni in Illinois. Some years ago Amazon & Google were looking for Nigeria developers to sponsor and I assisted 4 individuals. That was possible through information and these were like a dream come true for these individuals. I always tell everyone "be prepared so that you can take advantage of opportunities when they arise"

ThothHermes:
The point of this thread is that good WAEC grades is somehow linked to a thriving career. This is not really true.
The students listed mostly attended schools like Loyola Jesuit and other highly ranked colleges. Most of them could also get out of the country immediately afterwards. Why? Their family background. Their parents placed a premium on academic achievement and/or were able to afford expensive schools and tertiary education abroad.
These students WAEC grades are an effect, not a cause. The cause is family background. If you can, try to find out about their siblings and you'll see that they are also academic and career high-fliers.
PS: An advantageous family background also opens you up to opportunities which will make it easier to get good jobs, especially in a country like ours.
A child born in Mushin to parents struggling to put food on the table and attending the government school around the corner is most likely never going to be able to accomplish this.
You made a valid point which I also wanted the OP to recognize. There is a corelated relation between academic success and career success but the equation changes when you look at the relationship between academic success and business success. Just like IbeOkehia stated above a dropout can create jobs for the brilliant minds.
With respect to poor families, the easiest way to attain some level of financial success is through academic/business success.

COMMENTARY

Discussion:

1. In my previous research, I aimed at studying if there is a link between stellar grades at secondary school, university entry scores and stellar grades at tertiary level with a flourishing career. As clearly seen in this research, there seems to be straightforward path from high WASSCE grades to stellar performances at university level and a thriving career path. From 2009 – date is over a decade and almost two decades. This tells current secondary school students, guardians, well-wishers and parents that having stellar grades leads to an excellent life after school. Apparently, school is not scam as ignorantly peddled on social media. You can see it for yourself: raw facts and figures, not fats and figos.

Moreover, research into the top JAMB scorers in 2009 will provide more insight to know if these scholars scored high in JAMB. Basically, the aim is to find out if students who attained high grades in WAEC go on to perform excellently in JAMB. So, if a high proportion of WASSCE scholars go on to make a First Class in their university education and there is consistency, it means one’s WAEC scores can predict the person’s performance in the university ceteris-paribus.

As summarised by a Nairalander, Crofton, in the previous study: “most of the top JAMB candidates make excellent WAEC result, from time to time there are people who underperform in WAEC but do well in JAMB and vice versa, but usually top JAMB candidates are proven in their secondary schools already! ” This study and the previous one have proved him to be correct. Source: https://www.nairaland.com/7763389/top-jamb-scorers-where-today/2#124406607

2. While it is just a study rather than year-on-year studies, by comparing this with my previous research, it gradually solidifies my foundational thought that all things been equal: high WASSCE grades = excellent CGPAs = thriving career.

3. Loyola Jesuit College is Nigeria’s top secondary school!
Nice research and the kind of info that should be gracing the front page.
A lot of points in your commentary.
Sure, there's a correlated relationship between academic performance and a thriving career. Academic performance often serves as a foundational stepping stone towards a thriving career. Strong academic records typically demonstrate essential skills like critical thinking, problem-solving, and discipline. These qualities are highly valued in most professional settings.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This tells current secondary school students, guardians, well-wishers and parents that having stellar grades leads to an excellent life after school
No, you're taking the comparison too far. Having stellar grades does not lead to an "excellent life" after school. There are many with good grades with poor life after school life. There are many of us who failed woefully in school but leads better life than those with stellar grades.
Excellent life have nothing to do with grades in school. It should be better put as "having stellar grades can lead to an excellent career" which I already stated above.

One point you should also note is the sample schools.
From the list, many of the schools are private schools. Loyola Jesuit College charges about N3 million as annual fees. Any parent who can afford that won't have problem sending his kids oversees for further studies.

Last year about 20 students of Dowen College were in Florida for vacation, this year about 10 students from Chrisland Schools were in Florida. There are many private schools where the students go on intl vacations annually. The truth is even with an average result from WAEC, it's not difficult going to school abroad when you have the financial means.

As I have preached relentlessly on Nairaland, the United States is the ONLY place where black professionals thrive and excel.
This is incorrect. Maybe you should rephrase your statement. There are thousands of black professionals who have thrive and excel in many different countries. There are many individuals who I personally know who thrive and have excelled outside of the US. In fact some have to leave the US to achieve a higher level of professional success.

Nothing like an exaggerated sense of interpretation , it MUST fail in higher Courts, you can quote me on that.

Lower courts cannot go against decisions held by our superior Courts overtime. Again, Asuen didn't appeal that case because he was not party to the suit, PDP did appeal it.

Our laws are replete with cases on this so for a Judge who ruled similarly in 2022, and it was upturned by the higher Courts to then rule in likewise manner, it will suffer the same fate.

It is bound to fail on all fronts.
Except on the basis on technicality if the case fail, you've got my 500k. I guess that closes this issue.

No, it doesn't work that way with student visa, visiting visa yes home ties matters but this is not the case with student visa because the visa gives you the avenue to explore other opportunities within and outside US.

When VO asked about your plan after graduation that question is not specifically about returning back to Nigeria.
All applicants for F1 (nonimmigrant) visas must demonstrate strong ties to their home country to show that they intend to return home after their studies and have reasons to do so. Any indication of immigrant intent will lead to the visa being denied, and that includes insufficient plans or motivation for return.

Oshiomhole was wrong, that Judgement didn't nullify Asuen or this one.

That judgement was an interlocutory appeal and didn't negate this one even though it went against Asuen and I understand he is heading to the Supreme Court on it but it doesn't invalidate this judgement.

That is not the case Oshiomhole was talking about, because the Appeal Court has not ruled on it.

In the case of the delegates, the judgement did not invalidate the Primary or Asuen, that's why his name is on the INEC list however, there are parts of that judgement that needs some appealing, Asuen surprisingly did not appeal but PDP is appealing that.
There have been a lot of misinformation & disinformation by political parties and the media. Unfortunately members of political parties & reporters are confused because of the plethora of cases.

AI has at least 3 cases.

The appeal court ruling on July 22 was instituted by Shaibu and it was dismissed on 2 grounds. Shaibu's non participation and not exhausting party's internal mechanism.

The Delegate's case is different (Shaibu is not part of it) and until the Justices of the appeal court rule on this case, it better not to promote an exaggerated sense of personal interpretation. It's expected and wise for INEC to list the candidate as even an elected candidate can be removed by the court.

The ruling of last week in suit CA/ABJ/CV/629/2024 dismissed the appeal filed by AI. The decision of the Court of Appeal was in respect of an interlocutory appeal filed by AI concerning voters forgery case.

Hon. Justice P.A. Mahmoud who read the lead judgment said The practice of counsel filing interlocutory appeals especially in pre-election matters such as this one. I could not help but wonder what the Appellant would lose if they had waited till the end of the substantive matter to bring an appeal wholistically….”

This is very wrong and I don't know why people don't see it. This will lead to a complete state capture by the ruling party.

In true democracies like america, federal agencies are not responsible for conducting state elections. We have seen how the ruling party removes and makes governors at will.

If inec, a federal agency, is allowed to decide the electoral process of states in Nigeria, then the state agency for elections should be totally responsible for the conduct of local government elections in their domains.

In my opinion inec should only conduct federal elections while state elections agency should be responsible for state elections while local government elections agency should be responsible for local government elections.

This is the opposite of true federalism and we are just concentrating everything in Abuja which is very wrong. States needs their independence. We can't continue in this unitary system of government that is stifling development and promoting tribalism and political rascality.
You should understand that fedralism is a conundrum.
There are many things that can be copied from the US. States conducting LG elections should be the least because the SIECs have all failed.

Federalism is dynamic and if something is not working then it needs to be tweaked to fit the unique circumstances.

The people are are calling for a change, they have seen that the worst of INEC or a new body will be better than the best of SIECs.

TBH if the LGs are functional, that will allow for rapid development of the country. The state governors have failed so the people are calling for a change in the electoral process.

If you live in the country you will understand that LG results are written in government houses of the various states. In resources and administration the FG is better than the states, the people are uninformed otherwise everyone should be blaming their various states.

When I discuss issues from a legal perspective, I don't introduce the political aspect of it

Let me restate again for emphasis that these delegates have no locus standi been that they are not aspirants in the primary process.

These courts have restated this only recently in George Orlu v Tonye Cole and the SC in Osagie Iyore v Enoghama.

The SC was emphatic that the Apex Court will not open the floodgates for delegates to invade the Court. Only aspirants can..... There is nothing fantastic that Ekwo had done except what he did also in 2022.

In the same issues in 2022, he also ruled like this, the appeal Court upturned it and the SC also dismissed it.

If you are not an aspirant, you have no locus standi to sue, it has been chorused many times, everybody should go to the field and contest.
Well, the PDP has an option and it will be interesting to watch the proceeding legal fireworks.

In the cases you referenced above, there was a caveat, the court stated that the Plaintiff "did not exhaust internal party mechanism before instituting the suit".

You need to understand not only a judgment but the spirit of the judgment which is the intention of why the judgement was delivered.

It is regretable that frivolous party issues were taken to the court, overwhelming the courts, so the courts will ensure that internal party mechanisms are exhausted before ruling on suits.

Recently on suit FHC/KN/CS/13712022 delivered by Justice A.M Liman of the FHC, the court ruled that "statutory delegates cannot be excluded in all meetings, congresses and conventions of any registered political party in Nigeria". That is the status quo.

It is said that: "Justitia nemini neganda est". If the field is not fair, no one can be discriminated of their legal rights.

PoliticsRe: Court Did Not Void Edo PDP Guber Primary: See Certified True Copy Of Judgement by studyless123: 11:20pm On Jul 06, 2024

The Certified True Copy of the Judgement delivered by Justice Inyang Edem Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja shows that the ruling did not invalidate or nullify the Edo PDP Governorship Primary.

The judgement also did not make any pronouncement on the validity or otherwise of Asue Ighodalo or his running mate, Osarodion Ogie.

The suit was filed on 8th February 2024 by Kelvin Mohammed, on behalf of 375 Ward delegates allegedly barred from participating in the 22nd February Primary.
PDP knows that their participation in the forthcoming elections is precarious and that's why it is alleged that the Governor have a plan B.
TBH, this was an avoidable situation.
The Governor was advised beforehand but he dismissed the case.
Now he's running helter-skelter to close ranks.
I got a report that a major financier of AI has pulled out

On the substantive issue

The delegates have the locus standi to challenge a congress.
PDP violated it's constitution & EA in that process.
That's a major issue across all political parties (internal democracy)
While everyone knows AI was the Governor's preferred candidate, he could have played by the rules and still win the primaries, having the power of the purse.

FYI. AI still have a pending case bothering on his INEC registration.

Don't forget that this same Justice Inyang Edem Ekwo of the FHC dismissed Shaibu's case on the primaries.

In this case, He stated that the process was invalid, whatever interpretation you want to give it is up to you. But don't forget the legal rule "nemo dat quod non habet"

IMO, I'll like the PDP to be on the ballot. This will give the election the needed buzz and excitement, if the PDP candidate is disqualified, it may lead to sympathy votes for LP. But do you know what, this and other cases may likely get to the supreme court and AI would need to be a cat with nine lives to overcome all these litigations. "Be calm and observe"

Let wise counsel prevail
