You guys are very funny. So you don't know the impact of international students to UK universities. There was a bust in admission after PSW was stopped in 2012 and who told them to reintroduce it? They saw the numbers and nobody told them to reintroduce PSW in 2020. Now there's a boom and the admissions is growing yearly. I agree with regulations to checkmate migration but such policies will affect them.

He has applied for change of COS almost 5 million plus yet no show yet

Another trend I noticed in COS, in care... They just give them 20 hours shift or less and in months they won't see jobs..

Walahi Japa no easy.
Different story am seeing not hearing
It's not funny at all. It seems the care agencies now have a new business with COS racketeering.

I will need to reapply. And I need your candid guidance on how to navigate my next interview and I also need to know what went wrong? Thanks
Nothing went wrong. You did not sufficiently demonstrate that you qualified for the nonimmigrant visa or the officer could not determine your eligibility based on the information you provided. The only option is to reapply, in doing so you need to demonstrate your home ties.
Do you have previous transactions with the US company. You can ask them to write to the Consulate.

The snag isn''t even sponsoring, but the job filters away international applicants when they get to the "do you need sponsorship?" question part. So, one gets declined even before an actual interview.
When looking for a job as a student you need to look at the right direction.
There are job fairs tailored for students, employers visit schools on a weekly basis especially towards graduation.
There are job portals targeted for students.
I know two students who have secured jobs but will graduate in August.
These are the reasons I said it starts from day 1.

Do American companies look at grades and transcripts like their counterparts do elsewhere?
Employers all over the world want the best. It's a mix bag.
Some job portals allow you to input your grade.
For intership and entry level positions grade is important.
Google was using grades for many of their positions but they stated during the pandemic that it will no longer be a factor.

Nice initiative, but it would not succeed. The original immigration law and restrictions are embedded in nativistism. Dole out 10K visas because of the semiconductor industry will see Indians and Chinese overflood the system. The same Chinese American lawmakers are fighting everyday. Just like Germany said it will accept 250K work visas to Kenyans; till now, nothing comot. The same Germany passed dual nationality amendment and reduced the years to naturalise, only for some people to sue the process and have it suspended.

Nonetheless, I do agree that it is a good field to pursue as there would be more interested employers. Most of the best engineering grads in the US don pivot go consulting and finance industries.
Immigration is a political issue and it will remain so. Till the elections in November, the news is going to be about immigration and student loans.
The point is there are dearth of workers in many fields and the country needs to allow qualified individuals to fill those roles.

Gerrard59:
The end justifies the means. I would do the same if I were in the US. The legal authorisation to work is extremely important in the life of an immigrant.
The end can never be predicted especially where there are serious consequences for some actions.

Gerrard59:
Unfortunately, in an employers' market, international students are not favoured by firms as there are countless qualified people who have work authorisation. Also, the timeline to file for H1B is almost nine months after employment. Most startingly are the chances. Prior to COVID, it was 2/3, but now 1/3 and going down. Let's not forget that this is a visa class with 85000 visas for almost one million applicants. Out of which 65000 is for BSc holders. It is for that very reason we have more Nigerian students (first generation) studying at Canadian universities than US' universities. Ten years ago, the US was the top. Not anymore again.
It doesn't make sense that anyone going to the US for study will be thinking of getting married for the sake of papers while there are other options. Your papers can be revoked for that and unfortunately some have learned the hard way.

It's true that H1B is more competitive and that's expected. It's also a lottery but not a pure lottery as many think.
There's prepossessing before the lottery process.
There's verification, elimination and validation process and even rejection.
Many applications are multiple entries, bogus and inconsistent with the regulations.
USCIS is now trying to create a better experience. The sponsoring company is also important.

With that aside any serious student that want to stay can start preparing from day 1.
I don't see why a serious student can't achieve a GPA of >3.5
A high GPA shows that you're diligent, interested in your coursework, and have a solid work ethic.
Employers use some of these filters for selection of candidates.

Students should research and look at professions in demand.

Right now there's a dearth of workers in the semiconductor industry. That's why the
Economic Innovation Group (EIG) is proposing a new semiconductor visa, called the Chipmaker's Visa. It's meant to give out 10k visas a year but still a proposal. The point is with the right information and mindset you can get what you want and some are achieving that.

grin The earth is moving at 67,000 miles per hour. If your so called starlink Satellite is moving at 20,000 miles per hour, then it’s the most stationary thing i’ve ever seen. Satellites are location specific. Nigerian satellites in space must always be above Nigeria, else they won’t work. As Nigeria is moving from darkness to light and back again in rotation, the satellite must follow at the same pace. That’s why they look stationary wen u see stars at night
You're doing well. You need to understand the basics. However your response is not uncommon.

First understand that everything is moving in space.

The earth is moving round the sun at 67,000 mph.
The solar system is moving round the Milky way galaxy at 504,000 mph
Our galaxy is moving round the Local Group and the so on.

The Starlink satellites were not deployed to move round the Sun's orbit. They're orbiting the earth.

Going with your analogy how come planes moving at 1,000 mph are not stationary but can move from point A to B?
How come I can travel from Lagos to Abuja at 60 mph and not stationary.

The satellites are deployed at 200 to 300 miles from the earth and are traveling at 17,000 mph.
They maintain their orbit by that velocity and the earth's gravitational pull.

grin Satellites don’t move! They seem stationary wen seen from the earth. Cos they move with the earth. The Satellites over Nigeria are permanently over Nigeria. Moving in sync with the movement of Nigeria in space. Satellites don’t travel across the sky like airplanes
Satellites move. shocked. Even the ones that seem stationary move. They move like planes in space around their orbits grin. That's why they have orbital velocity and orbital period. For stationary satellites their orbital period try to match 24 hours of the earth's rotation. Starlink satellites have orbital periods of 60 mins to 120 mins and can easily be seen moving in space from the earth. They orbit at about 20,000 miles per hour...not too sure about the specifics.

All you people go to the uk wasting your life with rubbish skill like nursing and truck driving and etc etc. these types of skills will only get you jobs that pay your bills. You will get to 50 years old and have zero pounds in the akant with these type of skills. But let me tell you a hidden skill in the uk that can fetch you 2000 pounds per day and nearly 1 million pounds per year ? Go and learn anatomy and massage therapy. If you become so great at it the clients pay 200 pounds per session. If you have 10 clients in a day that’s 2000 pounds in a day. That’s 3 million Naira you made in one day. It’s better you work independent and have a car and have your massage table in your car and don’t be cheap, buy nice expensive great smelling oils and incense. When you go see clients don’t wear jeans or any color outfit, always wear clean white outfits . Be well groomed and try to gym so you look strong . Massaging requires strength . Have great soothing relaxing music on while you massage . After massaging for one year you done build 10 houses for village . There are so many stressed tensed up people in the uk and there is huge demand for great masseuse
This is very funny grin grin grin but plausible.

But I fear that it may affect my F1 Visa interview if I go ahead to file 1-140 form now. What do you suggest please?
Your fear is valid. F1 is NIV and I-140 is IV. The question is what are your intentions? Do you want to study or you want to migrate? Do you meet the requirements for both? TravelRe: Why Do Nigerians Think The Whites Are Richer compared to them? by studyless123: 7:54pm On Dec 16, 2023
IbeOkehie:
Oga @MT, this isn't a reasonable view of our reality here. I'm sorry, it just isn't. First of all, 40% of all homes in the USA are not on mortgage.

You've insisted we talk about INDIVIDUALS, right? Look at this home:
https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/3709-Kingsley-Pl-Raleigh-NC-27609/6430065_zpid/

Scroll down to the price history. As of 2011, the house was sold for about $160K. Today it's valued at over $600K. This is North Carolina, one of the average states, not particularly rich. There was ZERO real estate boom in this state, not even in the 2006 real estate craze. This is an average neighborhood in an average state, it's only recently prices have started rising. So imagine the kinds of capital being built up in places like California, Boston or Denver.

I happen to know the old Oyinbo lady that lived there. That house was probably valued at $30K in when it was built in the 1970's. It was completely paid off. Remember, 40% of all homes in the USA are completely mortgage free. She lived in that house till she was too old to manage herself, then she moved in with her daughter who lived in I think Virginia.

I tried to buy that house in 2016, I thought the price was too high because, well Raleigh is a smaller city. It was was eventually sold in 2017 for $400K and the daughter got the money. For sure she got at least $300K. Remember, this daughter is just a working person like me, likely married, probably has already bought her own home wherever she lives and accumulating more wealth based on real estate and other investments. These are ordinary Oyinbo people, middle class salt of the earth, hard working Americans. By American standards they NOT wealthy.

Oga, $300K is how much naira? That's ₦300 million. How many Nigerians are worth that amount? We're not talking of life insurance benefits from the dead husband, not stock investment, no retirement or pension payments.

The person that bought that home in 2017 has already made a $200K profit if they sell today. For sure they'll walk away with over $100K.

I've given you a REAL LIFE example that I happen to know personally. If you visit your own home village in Nigeria, look around. I know that most of the newer homes in the past 10 to 20 years have been built by people living abroad. You know how many of them get the money? I'll tell you what TWO of my own friends did to build their homes in Nigeria.

They took out LOANS on the increased value of their homes. I know a taxi driver married to a care worker who did exactly that.

Guy there's an Asian friend of mine, I've already told him I talk about him online and use his family as an example when I talk to other Nigerians in real life. Get a load of this.

He's a pharmacist like me.
His mother is a nurse, the father is a legal secretary.
His brother is an engineer and the brothers wife is a medical doctor.
His sister is a medical doctor.

All the people listed above lived in the same house for at least 7 years. How much money do you think they accumulated in that time? So this my friend, when he moved out in 2010, he first bought a house not far from Capitol Hill in Washington DC then later bought the home he lives in now in Columbia MD. How many Nigerians are as rich as he is?

Yes he's not White, yes Asians EARN higher incomes than Whites, but the data shows that White Americans are still WEALTHIER than Asian Americans, they're the wealthiest demographic in the USA!

The major thing I've used to illustrate is REAL ESTATE, not 401K pension accounts and stock investments and businesses owned. Real Estate is biggest form of wealth held by the middle class in the USA.

Average, ordinary Americans are very wealthy. Half of all households in the USA earn $65K/yr and above. Excluding all billionaires in America, I'm willing to bet the average family in the USA earning over $65K/yr holds more wealth AND potential wealth than the average Nigerian family earning over ₦500K/mo or ₦6 million/yr. If I make it just White families, there will be no basis for comparison, it will be like asking a toddler to enter ring with Mike Tyson.

This is why it seems Americans have little savings. As my Igbo people say it, when you see a little bird dancing on the road, there's something playing a song for him in the bush. The don't save because they don't need to. They're rich, they can solve their problems with accumulated resources.

Have a good day and Good Luck to Nigeria.
The statement that 40% of homes are not on mortgage doesn't necessarily equate to 40% of homeowners is crucial, highlighting a common misunderstanding of statistics. To illustrate this, I know an individual who owns over 10 homes, all without mortgage loans. In many places, Zillow and other companies have been purchasing single family homes. The key point here is that a significant portion of these homes is owned by millionaires, investors, and institutions.

Direct comparisons often overlook the intricacies of labor costs, rendering such arguments flawed. For instance, it's impractical to pay a Nigerian plumber $20/hr and then draw such parallels without considering the disparities in living costs.

The reality is that ordinary Americans are not affluent; they are grappling to meet their basic needs. I'll give you a simple example I got a 2021 Honda CRV for 33k, now I want to get the same latest model for 48k. That's about a 40% increase in cost in just over 3 years. Now how many companies have increased salaries by 10% in the last two years. Few companies have matched this surge with a corresponding 10% salary increase for their employees during the same period.

Year by year, the disposable income of the middle class continues to shrink. The assertion that a $68,000 household income is substantial appears disconnected from the economic challenges faced by many. I wouldn't accept that as a salary even a decade ago. Let's assume my medical and dental insurance costs 1k, car & Insurance 1k, rent 3k. That's 4k without taxes and other expenses. How can I survive?. Contrary to your assumptions, a $68,000 shared household income is far from comfortable, especially considering rising living costs.

It's important to note that assumptions about one's background and perspective can lead to misunderstandings. Having worked across various sectors, including health, hospitality, warehouse, construction, oil and gas, and IT, my experiences provide a nuanced understanding of the economic landscape of the US. I guess you live as a typical Nigeria without engagement with the society.

Saving money just like that is not financially sensible as inflation will eat it up. What you imply is that Nigerians abroad should save $12K annually. After saving that amount, then what next? Why save such when there are many investment schemes and mortgages to key into? At a point in life, your money should work for you, rather you working for the money.

Then, if saving such is hard in the abroad, how many Nigerians can save N1 million per month or even N500K after working?

So, you see, it is not a bright way to assess finances and expenses.
Very few people know that fact all over the world. My mentor always say you use other people's money (OPM) to get rich.

What can't be done, to go to African stores and ask if they could need someone to supply them some other African foods if it's not sufficient or they don't have at all. The worst they can say is " they don't want" will they beat? The task is a paid task o. But someone said it's not possible here in overseas, as if no be human being they live their. Even fellow Nigerians sometimes. FYI, I sent dried snails and honey on Tuesday this week. So, am not new to it.
It's a good business and I like your thought process. African stores are thriving in every city. You actually need just one person to coordinate the business. For example this drink cost $20 here and I consume palm drinks a lot. I found another store with a Nigerian brand that costs less. Food is a necessity for man to live so food business will always thrive.

With the rate at which Nigerians are leaving Nigeria, you will think with N50k you can japa from that country. Every Tom, Dick and Harry have left, the remaining ones are just waiting to buy their flight ticket.

I doubt if we still have up to 1 million people left in Nigeria at this time. So where is that multidimensional poverty statistics coming from? If almost everybody can afford the cost of Japa that doesn't come cheap. This makes me to come to the conclusion that, Nigerians might not have money in their bank account, but majority have tangible assets that can be easily converted to cash if the need arises.
There are different economic/social class in Nigeria. Upper, upper-middle, lower-middle, middle, working and lower/underclass. Defining these social economic classes is difficult but majority of the population are below the poverty line.

The upper and upper-middle classes have no issues with travelling. They travel easily and can relocate but most are not interested in doing so.

The challenge is for the lower-middle class and lower classes.

The truth is compared to the population, only a few travel out each year but these are exaggerated on social media to make you think everyone is leaving. The UK is the most traveled destination and less than 150k made the trip using the health and care worker visas which is very common.

Travelling has always been expensive and is out of reach for majority of the population.

Anyone with full residency in the abroad, aka citizenship or permanent residency, who buys a property in Nigeria does so strictly from an emotional point of view. There is no financial benefit whatsoever in buying a property in Nigeria. None whatsoever! For the sake of moving back to a black dominated country as one grows older, I say that Nigeria is not the only black dominated country in the world.

The Gods forbid I buy a property in Nigeria.
I want to assume that you're speaking from an uninformed point of view.

First, I noticed is that many of these anti-Nigerians are the first to build or buy houses but they won't tell you. I was in Abuja and was shocked that a friend in my city who claims he'll never develop a property in Nigeria is developing a 100M personal property. His younger brother told me and my friend is not aware that I know about his property.

Who do you think owns many of the AirBnB homes in Lagos?
Who do you think owns the estates and mansions built in cities and villages.
Who do you think is developing the real estate sectors in many of the big cities? From Lagos to Ogun to Benin to Delta to Anambra.

In Ikoyi alone there are over 10 flats that I know people financing and we live in the same city. In over a decade of living oversees, I have meet thousands of Nigerians and only a few are not interested in owing personal houses.

Don't let anyone deceive, search the internet and you'll understand why Lagos/Abj is a good investment for real estate. The major problem investors face is Government/community encumbrances.

Find out about the REITS yield in Nigeria. Some have offered yields of 10% or more.

2. TN visa does NOT need employer sponsorship while H1B needs employer sponsorship. For TN visa, all you need is a valid employment. You don’t need to be in the US to get the job. People get qualified US job while still in Canada.
3. There is quota on the number of HB1 visa issued annually while there is no quota on the number of TN visa issued annually.
4. TN visa is limited to certain professions while HB1 visa is not.
5. TN visa can be obtained immediately at a U.S. port of entry/airport with your letter of employment on the day you are leaving for the US. On the other hand, H1B visa can only be obtained by filing a petition with USCIS which can take several months.
6. TN visa does NOT allow for dual intent while HB1 visa allows for dual intent. Meaning, applicant can intend to be nonimmigrants and eventually leave the U.S. while also intending to stay permanently.
7. Both the TN visa and the H1B visa can be issued in increments of 1 day to 3 years per stay
8. TN visa can be renewed unlimited amount of times while the H1B visa is generally limited to 6 years.

You can read the following links about the similarities and differences between these two types of visas.

My take is, if you get a qualified job as a Canadian, then TN visa is very easy to get (note that I did not say that the visa is guaranteed).
About Mexican flooding the US boarder instead of applying for TN visa, my guess is that those flooding the boarder do not have the education requirement to qualify for TN visa and they are also not in the professions that qualify for TN visa. Note that most profession (I did not say all) that requires a Bachelor’s degree qualify for TN visa.

In my view, the reasons some Canadian are applying for H1B visa instead of TN visa could be because those applying for H1B visa do not have the education requirement to qualify for TN visa and they are also not in the professions that qualify for TN visa. In addition to that, they may also prefer H1B because of the dual intent explained above that H1B visa allows for but TN visa does not allow for.
Nice research there.

The TN is far easier to get than the H1B. (You don't need a degree)
You're not subject to H1B numerical caps.
Minimal documentation
You can work for multiple employers
No need to file LCA

Meanwhile, H1B is a big hassle for any employer. It's slow, competitive, time bound and expensive. But many Canadians in the bay area, Seattle, NY and Chicago are on H1B. Canada has the 3rd largest number of applicants after India and China. We have Canadian engineers, developers, accountants and other professionals on H1B. So the question is why?

haha! Sorry for the laugh, but there are actually lots of jobs for women.

The programming sector for women is still understaffed & many companies want a mixture of men & women. So far in my experience, every team i worked usually has just 1 or 2 women that are programmers. In my last company of about 50 devs, we had 2 women & 2 of them were Tech Leads and from America.

Programming is hard o, I can't lie and that's why some babes run from it but the ones who stay move up really quick because nobody is there to compete with you, men aren't really the competition because there are slots for men and women differently.

Diversity hires are taken very seriously in some companies.
You're right. We need more women in the IT space. Those who persevere rise. I encourage women to enter the IT field, it fosters a more diverse, innovative, and inclusive industry while providing them with rewarding and financially promising career opportunities.
@ Babygeek IT is broad so you got to find you niche. Right now there is demand for cybersecurity professionals and as Tosin said, you should be ready to put in the work.

You are interpreting the article as is which is okay but as someone on ground I'm now telling you there is more to it.

First of all, immigration to the west is a 3rd world adventure. Citizens of first world countries hardly migrate. You hardly see someone from say Finland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Japan, western Europe etc migrating to North America. Why would they do that when the standard of living in those countries are even better than ones in Canada or the US.

So who are those leaving? Is it the common man who migrated from India,China,Philippines,Pakistan,Nigeria etc? So they are going back to their country because all of a sudden, their country is now better than Canada? Why did they leave their country in the first place? Do you see Nigerians trooping back to Nigeria from Canada or are we not part of the newcomers?

I'm not saying people don't leave but not in any way like this article is trying to paint it. See, the opposition party has been critical of the current government immigration policy and has branded it a failure and they have a point. So it is not uncommon for someone who is angry with the government to push that narrative cos it is indirectly calling the government who is responsible for immigration a failure.

You can believe anything you want to believe sha.
I understood your earlier point. It's no news that many Canadians want to relocate to their southern neighbor. I strive to avoid making political insinuations in every piece, especially when there is data to support the subject.

It's quite easy to resort to politics, even when the statistics are clearly indicating the facts. The absence of personal acquaintance with a newcomer does not negate the validity of the point. As a Canadian citizen, you have access to the Information Act.

These are excerpts from the same article. Now, tell me who this information applies to:

There has been a significant decline in permanent residents (PR holders) choosing to become Canadian citizens. Between 2001 and 2021, there was a 40% decrease in the number of immigrants becoming Canadian citizens.

In 2017 and 2019, the annual rates of immigrants leaving the country reached their highest levels in 20 years, peaking at 1.1% and 1.18%. This trend is predicted to result in a 20% attrition in the immigrant population over the course of 25 years.
