Ignorance speaking. If a cup of tomatoes is $10 in the US and an Asian cup of tomatoes is $6. When 100% tariffs are implemented, the Asian tomatoes will cost $12.

Why do you think used imported cars to Nigeria cost more despite being sold in the US and other countries for a little above $1k or less depending on the make and specs? Because of the tariffs placed on those goods.
Why don't you calm down and learn bros. The guy was teaching you because you're getting it all wrong. About 4 months ago, I pay 2k on 20k worth of goods from China, now the tariff on 20k goods is $13,400. My consumers are complaining that my goods are very expensive because I pass the cost to them. The tariff doesn't hurt China because the price of the goods is the same. The tariff hurts US consumers.

Cars are expensive in Nigeria because of the tariffs on cars by the Nigerian government. The Nigerian consumers bear the burden. The same applies to all countries.

Tariff is to discourage imports. Developing nations need it but if developed nations like USA think they too need it, no problem.
The countries like Nigeria that charge high tariffs on imports (including imports from USA), their citizens are the ones bearing the brunt which means USA citizens are the ones who will be bearing all these new tariffs increment on USA imports.
As simple as this is, 99% of Nairalanders don't understand it. Disposable income will reduce.

See bro, I totally understand. I'm a business major and I know all about tariffs, b.o.t and trade protectionism. The tariffs you're talking about, at the end of the day, would be paid by the Americans themselves, not even China. The only benefit they'd derive is in the long run cos introducing tariffs, which leads to an increase in the cost of imported goods, doesn't automatically mean that local alternatives would be sought, especially if the price and quality is comparable (assuming there are even local alternatives for those imported goods).

The fact is that the US, under Trump, use their own economic standpoint (in light of their economic aspirations) as a yardstick for key decisions and they don't want to know if other countries are ok with it or not - this is in fact what Trump has been doing.

Another thing is Trump's modus operandi, he is too arrogant and doesn't engage in diplomacy when making decisions. The EU, China and NAFTI countries aren't insane to allow them walk over them just like that. International trade is a blend of business and politics, some things are just not acceptable.
You are indeed a business major. They are just many issues with the supposed tariffs. The tariffs charged to the U.S. include currency manipulation and trade barriers which show those numbers were made up based on his feeling for that day.
The US hardly produce coffee (about 1%) but is the world's largest consumer of coffee, so it means American consumers will pay more for coffee. No country imposes blanket tariffs on imports. Tariffs should be based on comparative advantage with the utmost benefit to the consumers.

Let me share some insight with you—manufacturing is no longer a competitive advantage for America. The U.S. simply can't compete in this sector anymore and should instead focus on maintaining its edge in services. Even if a 100% tariff is imposed by Trump, goods manufactured in Asia would still be cheaper than those produced in the U.S. Curious to know why?
Kudos. This is what most people don't understand. Trade should be on the basis of comparative advantage.

Pls I need clarification
How can a country that slams upto a 50% tariff on US imported goods be crying fowl that the US retaliated by imposing half(25%) of what those countries slammed on them.

Pls economist help
No country places a blanket tariff on imported items. Tariffs hurts everyone except the govt. It stifles trade.
The US consumers will spend less on those items because they'll become more expensive.

please do not compare Trump with the lifeless Buhari or the arrogant and vapid emperor you have as your presido.

While Trump is rambunctious and I also prefer a little more tact, his game play is pretty obvious so far. He will not commit to a trade war. All he has been making so far are threats of it since January ooo, and it's all in a bid to shake things up and renegotiate. Better than stupid moves laced with lies, deception and propaganda that goes nowhere and produces no result.

He will show results that ALL will see. He did well in his first term, bar his 'public' handling/utterances during COVID....and even then it was thanks to this same Trump that a vaccine was produced in record time.

He is a smart man, not the brainless sinister maradona politicians we have in our country. He hasn't gone to France or UK for check up🤣
It shouldn't be at the detriment of small businesses. There are better ways to negotiate. A small business owner who imports goods of 20k from China pays 2k in tariffs 4 months ago. Now he pays $13k in tariffs. Sourcing local is more expensive and there are supply challenges. The end user bears all this and then when it's unsustainable the small business dies.
Tariffs is about comparative advantage, the current approach is flawed.

True, a visa is a privilege, not a right. Countries have the sovereign authority to grant or deny visas based on their immigration laws and policies. It should be based on objective criteria and not personal disagreement or politics. Freedom is a fundamental principle of American society. The U.S. was founded on ideals of liberty, democracy, and individual rights.

Oga, you don't know what you are saying. You PDP keep doing the wrong thing expecting different results. What the tribunal decided is based on supreme court rulings. You must call witnesses to speak to documents or evidence tendered in court. It is a settled law that you cannot interpret documents you didn't make. To prove overvoting, you need Bvas itself plus inec register and only inec are the ones that can be called which you failed to.
The supreme court has rubbished irev results and you are still depending on irev instead of your own agents copies? Can you see the nonsense.
You cannot bring a machine like bvas and dump it at the court without operating it and showing it to the tribunal how it affected the results. So you where expecting the judges to operate bvas and start searching for evidences for you? Better go and rest
One of the problems we have is that people don't read. We don't follow the proceedings and don't understand what it takes to upturn an election at the tribunal. I was interested in the case because I wanted to see how AI would present his case but was disappointed in AI's legal team considering the fact that he's an experienced lawyer. When the parties adopted their final briefs of argument, I knew the case was over.
Petitioners must always remember that "A petitioner must succeed on the strength of his case and not on the weakness of the defense".

1. 🤔

2. What you described there sounds more like stewpidity of the utmost kind to me. 🫤

3. Well, you happen to be in the minority given the reality of life and living for many raised by Nigerian parents. undecided

4. Lol... Love🫤
It's the power of love Kobo. There have been many real-life incidents where husbands risked their lives to save their wives and vice versa.

In 2017 Las Vegas shooting, Sonny Melton, shielded his wife, Heather, from gunfire and died in the process.

In 2013 Boston bombing, James Costello was injured in the bombing but used his body to shield his then-girlfriend (now wife), Krista D’Agostino and they later married.

In August 2020, Mark Rapley punched a shark repeatedly until it let go of his wife Chantelle’s leg

My cousin's babe (from US and only child) defied all orders to live with him in a riverine city in Nigeria despite her influential background.

While I was hiking along a certain trail, I put my life on the line to save a kid from a bear attack.

I don't have issue with transactional sex if that's what I want, I don't have issues with friends with benefits if that's what I desire and I'll roll with a sugarmum if it tickles my fantasy but when it comes to marriage it's 100% commitment. That commitment on both parties creates a unique bond that makes you willing to do anything for the other party.

By the way do you hike? I was shocked to see LakeShore Trail as your location.

A system that has failed should be done away with not encouraged. The marriage property system of our ancestors did not work during their time for the majority and will definitely not work in this current era of ours. Whatever values where attached to it all turned meaningless in the end, if you will agree. undecided

2. Loveless? Exactly how do you go about concretely defining love abeg? And how do you determine the number of marriages it applied to back in the days as opposed to today? undecided

Anyways, I disagree as far as the loveless conclusion of yours. Marriage has always been a sort of business agreement between families/couples. Love is a relatively new idea that has yet to be concretely defined as far as marriage relationships are concerned. undecided
It has failed because of our pre-conceived ideas, understanding, media, training experiences, etc.
Marriage is not about property and the fact that properties continues to be an issues points to a deeper problem. I stated earlier that humans by nature are selfish.

Love has no basic definition but it's evident by actions. There have been many individuals who literally took their lives to save others and that should be a norm for couples. If I love you, I'll die for you. I hope you get the definition.

Again, the psych of our generation has changed. I grew in a close-knit family where love and happiness thrived and we were taught to be selfless and observant. I also witnessed the euphony and harmony between many beautify couples. While I cannot change the way others live their lives, I am in control of my life and know what I want. Some couples have approached me for counselling and some have witnessed the magic that love can have on their relationships. Life should not be faked.

Does this not equally apply to men who purchase properties in their name without indicating their wife as co-owner of the property? If you listen to the video, the narrator indicated that the man had a house in his name --- no mention of his wife being co-owner. undecided
I was not exonerating any sex. I've blamed men more for failed marriages because many failed to show love, leadership and being exemplary. This in-turn have created a generation of loveless couples that have made marriages to be a charade. There was a marriage.

My analysis and believe about marriages and relationships are based on what is obtainable in today's world. Today's women are different from women of 4 decades and beyond.

So, we Men need to change our mentality as well. DON'T do community or marital properties with any woman because today's women will NEVER do it with you if they have money more than you.

Men should STOP marrying down. Men should marry ladies close to them in status. STOP marrying liabilities as women so that you as the man don't have to use only your money to sustain the family and the liability of a "wife".
It has more to do with values and not status. We live in a selfish world and that has infiltrated into our marriages. If you can't do marital properties with your spouse what's the essence of getting married in the first instance? huh huh huh I see that as self-deception.

When there are computer science and software engineering degree holders with certificates in security and good knowledge of cyber security. Well hackers will continue to make a public show of these organisations till they learn to get only those who are qualified for tech roles.
This was in 2017 and it had nothing to do with her Music major. She was qualified for the role. Programmers and engineers were actually responsible for the breach.

Three things you can do.

1) Remove the account from your credit
Contact the credit bureaus in Canada, report the account as fraud. They may seek police report but most will remove it within 30 days. This is a normal occurrence. If they need police report, just complete the form simply as "fraudulent account." Don't add anything more. The reason is fraudulent account can mean many things from identity theft, to consigning for someone whose intent was to ghost and defraud you, which is your case. Once they remove the account, credit reports will block it from reporting.

2) Gangster move - repossess the car
Yes you have right to repossess it since you are on the loan. Work with a repossession company, repossess the car and park it in your garage. Tell them they have two options, sell the car and payoff the loan or refinance it alone.

3) Legal
Since you are the cosigner, you are still liable for the debt if they default and can be sued too. So, if you want to save yourself from that, file a lawsuit, provide evidence of them ghosting you and missed payments, which is causing you undue hardship. The judge will relieve you from the contract and send the lender a copy, or force him to return the car
That is an account that you agreed to be responsible for the debt so it cannot be reported as fraud. It will be fraudulent to report such as fraud.
Fraud involves forgery or identity theft which was not the case in this instance.

I have read that 2006 judgement, Fubara does not have the locus because by law, he isn't signing the cheque in Rivers.

However, any Governor can proceed to the Supreme Court to test its constitutionality and join both Fubara & the new administrator as parties to the suit.

I made same observation here earlier...
https://www.nairaland.com/8373114/rivers-national-assembly-duly-consulted/2#134605407
I read your observation and you're being bitten by the bug that you love so much. grin grin grin

It's easy for us to pick and choose our debates based on our affiliations and/or understanding on the issues.
In established democracies we've had judges deferring to doctrines of necessity.
The constitution is silent on the extraordinary measures that the president can exercise under a state of emergency. The const fails to streamline when and how a SoE can be declared and what the president can do in invoking such powers. So, whether a SA can be appointed or not is arguable. Such lacuna is what's putting food in the mouth of constitutional lawyers.

The SC will define the parameters of the presidential powers under this section. There's a reason I tell others that the president of Nigeria is very powerful under the present constitution.

Fubara can go to court challenging his suspension, citizens of Rivers State can go to court and state governors can go to court seeking for interpretation of the law.

Oh, you haven't heard about the global housing crisis that is ongoing?

There is nothing like if nobody rents the house. Have you built a house and nobody rents it? There are no enough houses to go round the population of every nation.

The western world is experiencing housing crisis currently and that's why the construction industry is booming at the moment even here in Nigeria.

Even here in Nigeria, have you ever built a well standard house and nobody rents it? They will rush the house as far as it's a good house. Any single delay, another person have paid for the house asap.

That's what happened to me when I wanted to rent a well standard 1 bed room apartment as a single bachelor that comes with POP, wardrobe and kitchen cabinet. I told the agent that I will make payment of total package of 900k the next day. Before I got there the following day, another person had paid for the house. And guess what I was told, first pay first serve. Time waits for no one. The thing pain me gan.

For your information, there are no enough houses globally just in case you don't know. That's why you can never go wrong with real estate business.
Be calming down sir. I never said I was a real estate expert and at this stage of my life I'm not interested in taking useless risks.
1. You're uninformed on how the housing market works in the western world and 2. I've seen many houses where no one rents it and the owners lose it. There are many cities where rents prices have dropped and there are many cities where there's an oversupply of homes.
You can go wrong with real estate investment if you don't carry out the necessary analysis.

That 42M probably came from his Nigeria savings or properties at home. You can't be able to pay ur school fees in uk with part time job while schooling.

Talking about whether he will consider moving back home if he recovers the 42M, he already said that himself and his wife joint monthly savings is 500, which is an equivalent of one million naira. What this means is that he needs approximately 4 years to recover that 42M.

Now, would you advice him to return home after the 4yrs? I don't think it's a wise advice. He is currently earning minimum wage, and his wife is not yet working full-time because of their kids, meaning there is a room for an improved earning and savings. The UK holds a better future for them, especially their kids, if they can work hard to improve their status
Very logical analysis. I don't understand why everyone will be attacking the OP if things are not going well for him right now. He's on the right track and with time he'll gain stability and consolidate. People don't want to hear about your struggles but are more interested in social media buzz. Designers are viewed as luxury items in America. That’s why as the cultural appeal reduced and lack exclusivity happened with brands like mall Michael kors and Kate spade etc, people no longer refer to them as designers.

So if for example you say that you only dress in designer items and start pulling out brands like Michael Kors, people are going to look at you like “that’s it?” Where are the DESIGNERS?” Because when you say that, they’re expecting more exclusive brands. But when people say designers (at least here) they mean luxury items. You’re the one getting caught up in semantics.
Exactly my point designers doesn't equate luxury. It's only in Nigeria that people think such. I actually don't know who you mean by when people say designers? Which people are you referring to? There's is no where in the world where Coach, Michael Kors or Kate Spare are not called designer clothing.

For Luxury items, we also have the lower, mid and upper echelons. Rodeo Drive is a famous luxury street for elite shoppers same as 5th avenue in NY. Instead of me to spend on such, I'd go for custom hand clothing.

Bro, Nigeria doesn't fall into countries the US considers as potential hubs for sourcing out professionals. However countries like China, India and most professionals in western Europe fall into this category.

If you carry out a study you'd discover that less than 15% of Nigerians have actually benefitted from this scheme. Reason being that our education system isn't amongst the top rated worldwide.

So telling a Nigerian living in Nigeria to keep applying that if he's good enough an American company would sponsor his trip over there to work is not a realistic objective. The best is to move over there, complete your Msc, and get a good job.
I see that as a self-defeating personality disorder. I assisted many with sponsorships and the last time I checked Nigeria is a hub for sourcing professionals. The only issue I found is many exaggerate their profile/achievements and sometimes lie. I responded to your post based on your claims, however, I will leave you with the words of Marc Andreesen
“The world is a very malleable place. If you know what you want, and you go for it with maximum energy and drive and passion, the world will often reconfigure itself around you much more quickly and easily that you would think.”

You are either an alternate account of the op, or you struggle with comprehension.

The guy could have clearly stated that he lacked ambition which is why he has no driving licence and lives on the bare minimum rather than suggesting its the norm.

For all I care, he can quit work and live in food banks where he stays, but he should be clear on why.
You're right. I have several alternate accounts and same as the OP. You that's over-ambitious, tell us your achievements and accomplishments. I put it to you that you may not earn in the next ten years what I earned ten years ago. But now, I'm fine with the bare minimum, happy and contented with my life.
It's time you focus on yourself and your health instead of being a scandalmonger.
You can direct your ambitions to assist your family and friends.
