Just once wouldn't you love for someone to simply show you the evidence for God's existence? No arm-
twisting. No statements of, "You just have to believe." Well, here is an attempt to candidly offer some of the reasons which suggest that God exists.

But first consider this. When it comes to the
possibility of God's existence, the Bible says that
there are people who have seen sufficient evidence,
but they have suppressed the truth about God.

On the other hand, for those who want to know God if he
is there, he says, "You will seek me and find me;
when you seek me with all your heart, I will be found
by you."

Before you look at the facts surrounding
God's existence, ask yourself, If God does exist,
would I want to know him? Here then, are some
reasons to consider...

1. Does God exist? The complexity of our
planet points to a deliberate Designer who not
only created our universe, but sustains it
today.

Many examples showing God's design could be
given, possibly with no end. But here are a few:

The Earth ...its size is perfect. The Earth's size and
corresponding gravity holds a thin layer of mostly
nitrogen and oxygen gases, only extending about 50
miles above the Earth's surface.

If Earth were smaller, an atmosphere would be impossible, like the
planet Mercury. If Earth were larger, its atmosphere
would contain free hydrogen, like Jupiter. Earth is
the only known planet equipped with an atmosphere
of the right mixture of gases to sustain plant, animal
and human life.

The Earth is located the
right distance from the
sun. Consider the
temperature swings we
encounter, roughly -30
degrees to +120 degrees.
If the Earth were any
further away from the sun,
we would all freeze.
Any
closer and we would burn up. Even a fractional
variance in the Earth's position to the sun would
make life on Earth impossible. The Earth remains this
perfect distance from the sun while it rotates around
the sun at a speed of nearly 67,000 mph. It is also
rotating on its axis, allowing the entire surface of the

Earth to be properly warmed and cooled every day.
And our moon is the perfect size and distance from
the Earth for its gravitational pull. The moon creates
important ocean tides and movement so ocean
waters do not stagnate, and yet our massive oceans
are restrained from spilling over across the
continents.

Water ...colorless, odorless and without taste, and yet
no living thing can survive without it. Plants, animals
and human beings consist mostly of water (about
two-thirds of the human body is water). You'll see
why the characteristics of water are uniquely suited
to life:
It has an unusually high boiling point and freezing
point. Water allows us to live in an environment of
fluctuating temperature changes, while keeping our
bodies a steady 98.6 degrees.

Water is a universal
solvent. This property of
water means that various
chemicals, minerals and
nutrients can be carried
throughout our bodies and
into the smallest blood
vessels.

Water is also chemically neutral. Without affecting
the makeup of the substances it carries, water
enables food, medicines and minerals to be absorbed
and used by the body.

Water has a unique surface tension. Water in plants
can therefore flow upward against gravity, bringing
life-giving water and nutrients to the top of even the
tallest trees.

Water freezes from the top down and floats, so fish
can live in the winter.
Ninety-seven percent of the Earth's water is in the
oceans. But on our Earth, there is a system designed
which removes salt from the water and then
distributes that water throughout the globe.
Evaporation takes the ocean waters, leaving the salt,
and forms clouds which are easily moved by the wind
to disperse water over the land, for vegetation,
animals and people.

It is a system of purification and
supply that sustains life on this planet, a system of
recycled and reused water.

The Human Brain ...simultaneously processes an
amazing amount of information. Your brain takes in
all the colors and objects you see, the temperature
around you, the pressure of your feet against the
floor, the sounds around you, the dryness of your
mouth, even the texture of your keyboard.
Your brain
holds and processes all your emotions, thoughts and
memories. At the same time your brain keeps track of
the ongoing functions of your body like your
breathing pattern, eyelid movement, hunger and
movement of the muscles in your hands.

The human brain
processes more than a
million messages a
second. Your brain
weighs the importance of
all this data, filtering out
the relatively unimportant.
This screening function is
what allows you to focus and operate effectively in
your world.
The brain functions differently than other
organs. There is an intelligence to it, the ability to
reason, to produce feelings, to dream and plan, to
take action, and relate to other people.

The Eye ...can distinguish among seven million
colors. It has automatic focusing and handles an
astounding 1.5 million messages -- simultaneously.

Evolution focuses on mutations and changes from
and within existing organisms. Yet evolution alone
does not fully explain the initial source of the eye or
the brain -- the start of living organisms from
nonliving matter.

2. Does God exist? The universe had a start -
what caused it?

Scientists are convinced that our universe began with
one enormous explosion of energy and light, which
we now call the Big Bang. This was the singular start
to everything that exists: the beginning of the
universe, the start of space, and even the initial start
of time itself.
Astrophysicist Robert Jastrow, a self-described
agnostic, stated, "The seed of everything that has
happened in the Universe was planted in that first
instant; every star, every planet and every living
creature in the Universe came into being as a result
of events that were set in motion in the moment of the
cosmic explosion...The Universe flashed into being,
and we cannot find out what caused that to
happen."
Steven Weinberg, a Nobel laureate in Physics, said at
the moment of this explosion, "the universe was
about a hundred thousands million degrees
Centigrade...and the universe was filled with
light."
The universe has not always existed. It had a
start...what caused that? Scientists have no
explanation for the sudden explosion of light and
matter.

3. Does God exist? The universe operates by
uniform laws of nature. Why does it?

Much of life may seem uncertain, but look at what we
can count on day after day: gravity remains
consistent, a hot cup of coffee left on a counter will
get cold, the earth rotates in the same 24 hours, and
the speed of light doesn't change -- on earth or in
galaxies far from us.
How is it that we can identify laws of nature that
never change? Why is the universe so orderly, so
reliable?
"The greatest scientists have been struck by how
strange this is. There is no logical necessity for a
universe that obeys rules, let alone one that abides by
the rules of mathematics. This astonishment springs
from the recognition that the universe doesn't have to
behave this way. It is easy to imagine a universe in
which conditions change unpredictably from instant
to instant, or even a universe in which things pop in
and out of existence."

Richard Feynman, a Nobel Prize winner for quantum
electrodynamics, said, "Why nature is mathematical
is a mystery...The fact that there are rules at all is a
kind of miracle."

4. Does God exist? The DNA code informs,
programs a cell's behavior.

All instruction, all
teaching, all training
comes with intent.
Someone who writes an
instruction manual does so
with purpose. Did you
know that in every cell of
our bodies there exists a
very detailed instruction
code, much like a miniature computer program? As
you may know, a computer program is made up of
ones and zeros, like this: 110010101011000. The way
they are arranged tell the computer program what to
do.
The DNA code in each of our cells is very similar.
It's made up of four chemicals that scientists
abbreviate as A, T, G, and C. These are arranged in
the human cell like this: CGTGTGACTCGCTCCTGAT
and so on. There are three billion of these letters in
every human cell!!
Well, just like you can program your phone to beep
for specific reasons, DNA instructs the cell. DNA is a
three-billion-lettered program telling the cell to act
in a certain way. It is a full instruction manual.

Why is this so amazing?
One has to ask....how did
this information program
wind up in each human
cell? These are not just
chemicals. These are
chemicals that instruct,
that code in a very detailed
way exactly how the
person's body should develop.
Natural, biological causes are completely lacking as
an explanation when programmed information is
involved. You cannot find instruction, precise
information like this, without someone intentionally
constructing it.

5. Does God exist? We know God exists
because he pursues us. He is constantly
initiating and seeking for us to come to him.

I was an atheist at one time. And like many atheists,
the issue of people believing in God bothered me
greatly. What is it about atheists that we would
spend so much time, attention, and energy refuting×
something that we don't believe even exists?! What
causes us to do that? When I was an atheist, I
attributed my intentions as caring for those poor,
delusional people...to help them realize their hope
was completely ill-founded.
To be honest, I also had
another motive. As I challenged those who believed
in God, I was deeply curious to see if they could
convince me otherwise. Part of my quest was to
become free from the question of God. If I could
conclusively prove to believers that they were wrong,
then the issue is off the table, and I would be free to
go about my life.

I didn't realize that the
reason the topic of God
weighed so heavily on my
mind, was because God
was pressing the issue. I
have come to find out that
God wants to be known.
He created us with the
intention that we would
know him.
He has surrounded us with evidence of
himself and he keeps the question of his existence
squarely before us. It was as if I couldn't escape
thinking about the possibility of God. In fact, the day I
chose to acknowledge God's existence, my prayer
began with, "Ok, you win..." It might be that the
underlying reason atheists are bothered by people
believing in God is because God is actively pursuing
them.

I am not the only one who has experienced this.
Malcolm Muggeridge, socialist and philosophical
author, wrote, "I had a notion that somehow, besides
questing, I was being pursued." C.S. Lewis said he
remembered, "...night after night, feeling whenever
my mind lifted even for a second from my work, the
steady, unrelenting approach of Him whom I so
earnestly desired not to meet. I gave in, and admitted
that God was God, and knelt and prayed: perhaps,
that night, the most dejected and reluctant convert in
all of England."

Lewis went on to write a book titled, "Surprised by
Joy" as a result of knowing God. I too had no
expectations other than rightfully admitting God's
existence. Yet over the following several months, I
became amazed by his love for me.

6. Does God exist? Unlike any other
revelation of God, Jesus Christ is the clearest,
most specific picture of God revealing himself
to us.

Why Jesus? Look throughout the major world
religions and you'll find that Buddha, Muhammad,
Confucius and Moses all identified themselves as
teachers or prophets. None of them ever claimed to
be equal to God. Surprisingly, Jesus did. That is what
sets Jesus apart from all the others. He said God
exists and you're looking at him. Though he talked
about his Father in heaven, it was not from the
position of separation, but of very close union, unique
to all humankind. Jesus said that anyone who had
seen Him had seen the Father, anyone who believed
in him, believed in the Father.
He said, "I am the light of the world, he who follows
me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light
of life."
He claimed attributes belonging only to
God: to be able to forgive people of their sin, free
them from habits of sin, give people a more abundant
life and give them eternal life in heaven. Unlike other
teachers who focused people on their words, Jesus
pointed people to himself. He did not say, "follow my
words and you will find truth." He said, "I am the way,
the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father but
through me."

What proof did Jesus give for claiming to be divine?
He did what people can't do. Jesus performed
miracles. He healed people...blind, crippled, deaf,
even raised a couple of people from the dead. He had
power over objects...created food out of thin air,
enough to feed crowds of several thousand people.
He performed miracles over nature...walked on top of
a lake, commanding a raging storm to stop for some
friends. People everywhere followed Jesus, because
he constantly met their needs, doing the miraculous.
He said if you do not want to believe what I'm telling
you, you should at least believe in me based on the
miracles you're seeing.

Jesus Christ showed God to be gentle, loving, aware
of our self-centeredness and shortcomings, yet
deeply wanting a relationship with us. Jesus revealed
that although God views us as sinners, worthy of his
punishment, his love for us ruled and God came up
with a different plan. God himself took on the form of
man and accepted the punishment for our sin on our
behalf. Sounds ludicrous? Perhaps, but many loving
fathers would gladly trade places with their child in a
cancer ward if they could. The Bible says that the
reason we would love God is because he first loved
us.

Jesus died in our place so we could be forgiven. Of
all the religions known to humanity, only through
Jesus will you see God reaching toward humanity,
providing a way for us to have a relationship with
him. Jesus proves a divine heart of love, meeting our
needs, drawing us to himself. Because of Jesus'
death and resurrection, he offers us a new life today.
We can be forgiven, fully accepted by God and
genuinely loved by God. He says, "I have loved you
with an everlasting love, therefore I have continued
my faithfulness to you."

This is God, in action.
Does God exist? If you want to know, investigate
Jesus Christ. We're told that "God so loved the world
that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in
him should not perish but have eternal life." 18
God does not force us to believe in him, though he
could. Instead, he has provided sufficient proof of his
existence for us to willingly respond to him. The
earth's perfect distance from the sun, the unique
chemical properties of water, the human brain, DNA,
the number of people who attest to knowing God, the
gnawing in our hearts and minds to determine if God
is there, the willingness for God to be known through
Jesus Christ.


If you want to begin a relationship with God
now, you can.

This is your decision, no coercion here. But if you
want to be forgiven by God and come into a
relationship with him, you can do so right now by
asking him to forgive you and come into your life.
Jesus said, "Behold, I stand at the door [of your
heart] and knock. He who hears my voice and opens
the door, I will come into him [or her]." 19 If you want
to do this, but aren't sure how to put it into words,
this may help: "Jesus, thank you for dying for my
sins. You know my life and that I need to be forgiven.
I ask you to forgive me right now and come into my
life. I want to know you in a real way. Come into my
life now. Thank you that you wanted a relationship
with me. Amen."

God views your relationship with him as permanent.
Referring to all those who believe in him, Jesus Christ
said of us, "I know them, and they follow me; and I
give them eternal life, and they shall never perish,
and no one shall snatch them out of my hand."

Looking at all these facts, one can conclude that a
loving God does exist and can be known in an
intimate, personal way.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal says Robin van Persie is struggling for confidence in front of goal and admits the striker had "a very bad game" against Arsenal last weekend.

Van Persie only touched the ball 13 times against his former club, three of which were while taking corners, before Van Gaal replaced him with 18-year-old James Wilson for the last 15 minutes.

Indeed, in the whole of 2014, the Dutch striker has scored only eight goals in 21 Barclays Premier League games.

Van Gaal said: "I do think 13 is few for a striker. I want to improve that. You can count his touches on the ball but more important is how he is playing.

"It was a very bad game for him. That is why I changed him. When I change a player, it is not because he is the best player on the pitch. You are doing something wrong. I believe in the players. When I change them, normally, it is because they are doing something not good in their performance.

"When you pick up this match it is easy to put a question about 13 touches. Okay. But strikers do not touch the ball often. That is their profession.

"Now I have a surprise for you. I had an international striker, Mario Gomez. He touched the ball nine times during Bayern Munich matches in my time."

Asked what Van Persie needs to do to get back to the level of being the best striker in England, the United boss added: "It is a question of confidence, or maybe scoring a wonderful goal at the right moment.

Paul Merson foresees away wins for Chelsea, Arsenal and Man City as well as victories for Liverpool and Manchester United in his latest round of predictions...

Sunderland v Chelsea - 5:30pm, Sat, Sky Sports 1HD

I think Sunderland will be well out of their depth here. Chelsea are so good at the moment, it’s just phenomenal. Sunderland can play at 100 miles an hour and they’ll just get picked off. Chelsea can mix it at one stage and then they can play football, play with pace or slow the game down. They are the complete team; they don’t have a weak link.

Their time may come later on when there are a few injuries but at the moment, I just can’t see anything but a Chelsea win. I wouldn’t get disheartened if I was Sunderland though. Sometimes you give your all in these games, you may pinch a draw or get a win then great, but if you don’t move on, don’t worry, Chelsea are a top team.

I watched Southampton last week and I was disappointed. Everybody is telling me how great they are. I hadn’t seen them play before and I watched the Villa game and they didn’t look like a second-placed team to me. I said on Soccer Saturday they will finish seventh or eighth and I’m not going to change my mind from Monday’s performance. I didn’t think their attitude was great and I think they thought they just had to turn up and that wasn’t the case.

I think they’ll be better against City, but how do you stop Aguero? I don’t see how you can stop him; he’s up there with the best in world. City are a great team to watch at the moment because if it goes to form, and Chelsea beat Sunderland, they have to win - draws are no good. We know they’re going to finish in the top four but they’ve got to go out every week and try to win.

Spurs have won two away games when they should have got beat, thanks to the other team having players sent off, and then they got beaten by Stoke, so I think there are really struggling at the moment. I watched them last week and they never looked like scoring.

I wasn’t impressed with Everton last week if I’m being honest either but they won. So I fancy Everton again this week, and that’s not my Arsenal head talking, that’s my football head!

West Brom v Arsenal

I fancy Arsenal, I think they’ll go on a roll now after Wednesday's win over Dortmund. Defensively the other night, they were very good. We all know they can score goals. I watched West Brom last week and they got well rinsed at Chelsea and they were well beaten the week before at home to Newcastle.

If they don’t pick up from either of those two performances, they’ll be well beaten again. I fancy Oxlade-Chamberlain to score; he’s getting better and better. So I’m going to go 2-0 Arsenal, and another clean sheet.

Burnley v Aston Villa

Well, I’m hoping I’m wrong here but I think Burnley will win this game 1-0 but, like I said, I hope I’m wrong. Villa have one shot in a game and that’s it - they can’t keep doing that. If Burnley play like they did in the first 20 minutes against Hull, I think they’ll be hard to beat. When you look at the match, you think that if Burnley are able to get one goal, then that will be enough. Hopefully I’m wrong but I’m going for a home win.

I think just Liverpool here. Stoke have been better away from home this season than at home which is a surprise. I thought Hull were unlucky last week against Spurs. If Gaston Ramirez doesn’t get sent off, they win the game and they definitely don’t lose. If Man United got back on that coach on Saturday and thought that was a good performance at the Emirates, then they better start worrying. That could have been any scoreline in the first 30 minutes so you can’t tell me that was good. I think they’ll struggle again here as they haven’t shown any form to change my mind yet. Saying that, I think they’ll just nick it.

QPR v Leicester

This is a cup final, a six-pointer! I don’t think Leicester have recovered since Burnley scored that last-minute free-kick against them. They beat Man United, but Burnley fought back and if they had won that, there would have been a bit of momentum. Instead they just haven’t recovered. QPR, at home especially, are a different team now with Zamora in there. They have a lot of energy so I’m going for a home win.

Swansea v Crystal Palace

I’m doing this game on Soccer Saturday. I’ve watched Palace a few times this season and Liverpool made them look like the Harlem Globetrotters last week and they're not, believe me! I think Swansea will win this game. Palace shouldn’t get too carried away, they did very well the other day but there’s a long way to go yet and Swansea are a decent team, especially with Bony up front.
Swansea gave a good account of themselves last week and Man City and they only lost by the odd goal, they’ve beaten Arsenal at home as well so they're doing well. They're floating around the top part of the table so I can’t see anything other than a home win.

West Ham v Newcastle

I watched West Ham last week at Everton and I thought they were bang unlucky. I thought they were decent. They should have at least got a draw out of the game. They had a lot injuries - Sakho, and Valencia didn’t play and Carroll played up front. Downing was out last week as well and he’ll be back, he’s a big player them.
Was it a blessing in disguise they lost? Maybe. If they had won that game and Carroll and Nolan played well, what happens this week? Do they play again and then we're back to last season's team? Look what happened last season when the crowd were on their backs and they didn’t win but the team played well, so do you go and put the big boys back in again? I know they’re on a roll Newcastle, but I can’t see anything but a West Ham win this week.

Glenn Hoddle praised Sergio Aguero after the Argentine ensured Manchester City travel to Roma with something to play for in their last Champions League group game.

Aguero was again man of the match as City beat 10-man Bayern Munich at the Etihad Stadium, after twice going behind to the German champions.

Hoddle said: "He’s incredible. It was a magnificent performance from him. When a team go down to 10 men as Bayern did, you’d imagine that with City being at home they’d be peppering the goal.

"You get a feeling that the goals are coming, and that they’re going to score. Then they go 2-1 down, and without him they are out of the competition."

Aguero scored from the penalty spot to give City the lead before Xabi Alonso's free-kick on 40 minutes and Robert Lewandowski's strike on the stroke of half-time saw them 2-1 down at home.

Arsenal's second largest shareholder Alisher Usmanov has told Arsene Wenger to start learning from his mistakes.

Usmanov says the Gunners need to strengthen the entire team to compete with the best in Europe, and he insists the money is available to Wenger to do just that.

The Russian billionaire, who owns 30 per cent of the club, says he remains a huge admirer of Wenger, but believes the Frenchman is letting his principles stand in the way of the club's success.

Arsenal have lifted just one trophy in nine-and-a-half years and a 2-1 defeat at home to Manchester United on Sunday marked the team's worst start to a season since 1982.

Usmanov told CNBC: "Arsene Wenger is one of the greatest coaches, not just of European, but of world football. But we have a Russian proverb which goes, 'Even an old lady can have a roof falling on her'.

"Everybody makes mistakes. He can make mistakes and I know as you age it is more difficult, more challenging to accept one's mistakes.

“The potential of the team is there but there is no critical evaluation of mistakes and they need to acknowledge them, because no genius can retain the same level of genius if they do not acknowledge mistakes.

"It's only when you admit your mistakes that you can get rid of them. I wish this for my club.

"Nothing bad is happening apart from repeating the same result - we keep being in the middle of the Champions League but we only lose the first play-off games. Some may be happy with that but as a share-holder, I am not."

Scrutiny
Wenger's position as manager has come under increasing scrutiny in recent seasons as the team has drifted further away from a serious challenge in either the Premier League or the Champions League.

Usmanov though does not have a direct say on Wenger’s position as he has not been offered a place on the board, a situation he admits he finds "frustrating."

Arsenal spent £35million to sign Alexis Sanchez in the summer, a year after breaking the club's transfer record to buy Mesut Ozil for £42.4million.

Usmanov insists, however, that money is available to add more quality and Wenger must not allow his principles to translate into "lost possibilities".

"Does (Wenger) have money or not? There is officially money in the club," Usmanov said.

"My opinion - and I tell it openly - we need to strengthen every position to play on the level of such teams in [the] UK as Chelsea and Manchester City, in Europe like Real Madrid, Barcelona, Paris St Germain and other clubs."

Signs and symptoms

Tooth decay may not cause any symptoms until it has reached an advanced stage. As the problem develops, symptoms of tooth decay can include:

-use floss or an interdental toothbrush at least once a day to clean between your teeth and under the gum line
-avoid rinsing your mouth with water or mouthwash after brushing because this washes the protective toothpaste away – just spit out any excess toothpaste
-cut down on sugary and starchy food and drinks, particularly between meals or within an hour of going to bed


How tooth decay is treated

If you see your dentist when the decay is in the early stages, your dentist may apply a fluoride varnish to the area to help stop further decay.

If the decay has worn away the outer layer of your tooth and caused a cavity, your dentist will remove the decay and refill the hole in your tooth with a filling. If the nerve in the middle of your tooth is damaged, you may need root canal treatment, which involves removing the nerve and restoring the tooth with a filling or crown.

If the tooth is so badly damaged that it cannot be restored, it may need to be removed.

NATO warned on Tuesday of a “very serious” build-up of Russian soldiers and weapons inside Ukraine and on the border, as Germany’s foreign minister urged Kiev and Moscow to respect a tattered peace plan.
The West is keeping up intense pressure on Russia over Ukraine following a bad-tempered G20 summit in Australia at the weekend which Russian President Vladimir Putin left early.
In Brussels, NATO’s head Jens Stoltenberg issued a stark warning to Moscow over the seven-month conflict in Ukraine’s east which has killed over 4,100 people and plunged relations between the West and Russia to a post-Cold War low.
Stoltenberg warned of a “very serious build-up” of troops, artillery and air defence systems inside Ukraine and on the Russian side of the border as he arrived to meet European Union defence ministers in Brussels.
“Russia has a choice. Russia can either be part of a peaceful negotiated solution or Russia can continue on a path of isolation,” Stoltenberg said. “The international community calls on Russia to be part of the solution.”
At the same time, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier saw Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk in Kiev, ahead of a crunch meeting later Tuesday in Moscow with Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov — the first such visit by a senior European minister since July. Germany is playing the lead role in mediating the crisis with Russia.
Steinmeier said the peace plan agreed in Belarus in September, and its ceasefire, which has been frequently violated, “were not perfect but they do form a basis. We have to fulfil the agreements.”
As the unrest in eastern Ukraine drags on into the ex-Soviet state’s harsh winter, Ukraine’s military said Tuesday that fresh clashes over the past 24 hours between government forces and rebels killed five of its soldiers.
The latest deaths came despite the nominal truce that has halted fighting along much of the frontline but failed to stop bombardments at key flashpoints.
Russia rejects claims that it provides military backing for the heavily armed separatist rebels in the east.
It also denies that it supplied the anti-aircraft missile which downed Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 in eastern Ukraine in July, killing 298 people, an incident which sharpened the West’s focus on the unrest.

As the race to defuse the conflict steps up, the European Union on Monday agreed to blacklist more Kremlin-backed rebels in Ukraine.
However, it stopped short of fresh sanctions against Moscow, saying there was hope of restarting dialogue.
New European Union diplomatic chief Federica Mogherini said foreign ministers meeting in Brussels had raised the possibility of her visiting Moscow to “re-engage in a dialogue” in search of a solution.
Ahead of Steinmeier’s visit to Moscow later Tuesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said his government hoped “that the ‘point of no return’ has not yet been crossed” in Russia-Europe relations.
The comment came as Russia engaged with Germany and Poland in a tit-for-tat series of expulsions of diplomats which has further heightened tensions between the 28-nation European Union and its vast eastern neighbour.
Lavrov cautioned there would be no major breakthrough in the talks with Steinmeier but said Moscow wanted to reach “a balance acceptable to all parties”.
The German foreign ministry on Monday said the visit was aimed at assessing the “chances of avoiding a new spiral of violence in eastern Ukraine”.
In unusually strong remarks in Australia on Monday, German Chancellor Angela Merkel vowed the Kremlin “will not prevail”. She called on Western leaders not to lose hope in what may be a long struggle with Russia over Ukraine.
Ukraine has urged Brussels to go further to send a clear message to Moscow.
During the meeting with Steinmeier, Yatsenyuk lashed out at Russia, insisting that the September peace agreement “is being observed by Ukraine and blatantly violated by the Russian side”.
