Hey house

I was just admitted to my uni of choice for fall 2020, Mnsu, and my i20 is ready to shipped.

My question is how soon can I go to the embassy for the f1 visa interview, for fall 2020. If I go next month, will be too early?

You can only pick a date not less than 120 days to the start of your program.

Thank you for the help so far.

I got a PhD admission to Cell & Molecular Biology at Ohio University with full tuition waiver and teaching assistantship. My i-20 came in last week and there was no deficit. However, I was asked to hold $2k for initial survival.
Stated on the i-20, program starts August 12, 2020
Class begins August 24, 2020
Earliest admission date: july 13, 2020.

MY ENQUIRIES:
1. Can I go ahead and pay my SEVIS fee now? Who can you refer to help me with making the payment in USA?

2. Should I go ahead and make my Visa payment and pick an appointment date now? Won't it be too early considering that August is the resumption. If not, when will be the right time to apply?

3. What are my chances at obtaining a Visa. I'm married with a kid and I have over 4yrs experience in my field. I am 28years old

4. Attached is an extract of my i-20 for perusal and suggestions.

Thank you

(1)You can go ahead and pay your sevis fee at this time since you have everything handy (I-20). You can pm Walspring on here, I think he help people pay for sevis fee.

(2) You can go ahead and book your visa interview but make sure It’s within 120 days to the start of your program indicated on your I-20.

(3) Nobody here can predict ur chances of getting the visa cos we r not visa officers. Just prepare and build your confidence level n convince the VO to approve your visa. Furthermore, being married n having a kid is a plus for you cos ur home ties r strong with them back home in Nigeria.

Good luck.

Please, how can one move from being on a wait-list to getting admitted?

There is actually nothing you can do about getting yourself out from waitlist.

Just be praying and fasting so hard that someone or multiple people drop their offer from that your department while you hope that you are ranked high on the waitlist to be taken off the waitlist.

If I may ask, were you waitlisted because of funding?

Pls when you applied to Kansas State Uni, How soon did you get your admission and can I still apply? I have ND, HND and PGD all in Computer Science can I get in for MSc with full funding/aid without English proficiency tests?
Pls help a bro God bless you

Without English proficiency YES cos Nigeria is an English speaking country, but do they not require GRE for funding?

I think you should do your homework and find out their application requirements on the dept homepage or better still email either the graduate school or the dept to find out these things you are asking here.

Thanks. The problem is this emphasis on proving there are strong ties and marriage seems to count much. I searched though, and saw on another closed thread where an embassy official said most student's visa seekers are single.

I believe majority of the people who got their visas approved and schooling in the USA now r single or were single when they visited the embassy.

Must you be married to go and school? As long as ur intentions r legit going for studies, I don’t think you should be worried as long as you can convince the VO to give u the F1 visa.

Case closed!

Is it ok to accept an admission while still waiting for assistantship decision? Does it send a wrong signal that you can attend and afford the school without assistantship?

Accept the offer of admission and wait for the assistantship decision.

Many programs make assistantship decision after making admission offer and NO it does not send any wrong signal whatsoever.

How many months does it take US university to make admission decision.....

Why don’t you direct this question to the graduate director of the program you applied to. I believe S/he is in the best position to tell you that because different programs have timelines for their decisions.

Do anyone have an idea if Texas Tech demands that you send your transcript via WES after admission ?

They don’t require evaluated transcript. You have to ask your university to send ur transcript directly to the graduate school.

Good Afternoon all, I really don't know how to go about things here but I'm in a similar situation like his, mine was I actually studied for some years in the university here in Nigeria but didn't get funds to pay up fees, thereby I had to leave school and started running jobs, I could barely save let alone feed, so I got someone in the United States who is will to help me start up schooling there and said he'll be my financial sponsor too, please what do I do and how do I go about the process. Thank you so much

Are you sure this person you are talking about is ready to commit thousands of dollars to pay for your tuition and living expenses?

Don’t come to the USA and realize that he is not ready to commit such funds running into millions of naira just to sponsor you through school when he is not your parent or immediate sibling.

Or are you trying to use the F1 route to japa from Nigeria?

Well, let me advice you, register for a standardized test (SAT) or whichever one will be best and apply to schools that can offer you generous scholarships, attend your interview and come to the USA and school on a scholarship (free). Anything outside that you will find yourself out of status. If you can’t fund your studies in Nigeria, do you think it will be easy for you in the USA?

Hello N.L Family,
Greetings of the day to you all. I need help please. I have been lost admission to two schools now..l don't know what the problem is. Am so worried and afraid of what mite me be the outcome of the rest.
Profile:
GPA- 3.61/5.0
Bsc- Estate Management
Msc-Urban and Regional planning
GRE-285
Admitted- Ball state university
Rejected- University of Utah and University of Iowa.
Pending - Cleveland state university, University of Nebraska, University of Florida, University of Albany.
Help a sister. I need assistance house..

What do you need assistance with?

I would advice you wait for the admission decision from the rest of the schools you applied to. You have one admission already and more pending decisions, just pray and hope you get accepted into them.

The reason why you may have been denied in the other two schools may be that compared to other applicants, your application file may not have measured up including your GRE scores.

Keep hope alive.

The graduate coordinator is not always an actual academic professor. They could sometimes be people who in other schools would have been admin assistants.

But your advice is solid. Those grad cords no get time n admin assistants would almost always solve your problem.

I know bro.

People often mistake graduate coordinator (GC) and graduate director (GD).

The former is in most cases like an admin assistant who helps the department doing more of the administrative work with regards to application process and admission. S/he is not an academic staff but admin staff, while the later (Graduate Director) is an actual Professor in the department level who is tasked with directing the application and admission process in the department.Prospective Students can call the graduate Director to find out things like deadlines, award of graduate assistantships etc.

I hope I made sense?

Contact the grad coord for Guidance

Everything is not for graduate coordinator.

Let him contact the graduate school or the international student service (ISS) office on what to provide to issue his updated I-20 for Fall semester.

Graduate coordinator’s work is to answer questions about application and admission at the department level and has nothing to do with issuance of I-20.

Then what was used to evaluate the international students at Urbana Champagne to determine their admissibility into their Law School?

You must understand that prior to now, LSAT is or was a requirement to get into Law school in the USA. Things may be different now, you can guide the person that asked the question and tell him what is needed to get admission into the Law School at Urbana Champagne.

All I know is that there must be an admission test to evaluate the admissibility of the applicants, maybe they now use GRE as a parameter too in the University of Illinois Urbana Champagne. WHO KNOWS!

The LSAT is a must for admission into a Law school in the USA, whether funding or not.

I really do not think you can get fully funded for Law degree in the US. You can get some form of scholarship that can aid with offsetting part of your tuition.

You obviously didn’t get it. That stipend is just for u to cover parts of your living expenses and large portion of your tuition will be waived for you.

I think it’s a good offer and the deficit you will have will not be much.

Not writing or wanting to write the GRE and IELTS show u off as an unserious student.

Writing that GRE will enhance your prospect of getting so many scholarships and assistantships as you want. So why are you shying away from writing it?

Nobody will come and be telling you schools you can apply without standardized exams, make use of Google and find out yourself

I think it's high time Federal Government allow Igbos secede from the federation. They contribute nothing if not crime and hatred.

In federal Union, each region is expected to contribute something meaningful such as natural resource or raw materials but igbos contribute nothing to the federation and yet they'd not allow other Nigerians to rest.

At least each region brings something to the federation table except igbos.

North - Crop production and livestock

South West - Timber, crude oil and shipping ports

South South - Crude oil and shipping ports.

South East - Crime, hard drugs, prostitution, scam, fake products such as medicine etc. And now they've come up with a new system of committing crime and pin it on Fulani herdsmen.

Yes, the North engage in terrorism but it mostly affects them and it's internal which most countries are battling with. It has not stopped foreign firms from transacting business with Nigeria. It's a global issue.

Yes, South West engage in fetish monetary ritual but it starts and ends with them. They don't go into other regions to carry out their fetish act. And hasn't stopped foreign firms from transacting business with Nigeria.

But Igbos combined all the negatives other unit of the federation are known for ( kidnapping and armed robbery, money ritual etc). Even the trending internet fraud (Yahoo Yahoo) 80% of them are igbos.

Well, I don't really blame the US bank for not transacting with Nigeria because even me as a Nigerian I always think twice before I engage into any business with igbos and with caution as well.

You lack wisdom. You are just so foolish with your reasoning.

Good morning everyone. I have my interview tomorrow and would want to post my transcript once again. Please help pick out flaws.
Vo: Good morning, passport and I20
Me: Passed them
Vo: You were here sometime last year, why were you denied
Me: I was denied because I couldn't clearly express my purpose of traveling to the visa officer due to the fact I was nervous
Vo: So what has changed since the last time you were here?
Me: I feel a lot more confident than the last time
Vo: So where are you going?
Me: Am going to St Cloud State University for my undergraduate degree study in computer engineering.
Vo: how many schools did you apply to?
Me: 3 schools, 3 admits (name them)
Vo: So why this school?
Me: Apart from the fact that I was given a generous scholarship by this school, Ichose this wonderful school because of all the schools I applied to, it's the only school that uses a D2L system, a system where professors can create web based course sites to enhance course experiences. This D2L system gives students the access to course materials like assignment folders, quizzes and surveys, course materials, and many more through their laptops, smartphones, and tablets. I also chose this school because of the level of interaction between students, their professors, and faculty members. On top of all these features,St. Cloud State University offers so much value at a very moderate rate.
Vo: Why this course?
Me: A degree in this course will give me practical and professional paraphernalia to secure an employment in top ranked technical innovative firms in Nigeria like Angela, Flutterwave, MasterCard,Glo,Jumia, etc. Besides, this,I have an optional lecturing job offer from a very close family friend who is the minister for education in my state upon graduation to work in either of two universities. With a degree and knowledge of this course, I will perfectly fit in the role(this is true please).
Vo: What are some of your undergraduate courses?
Me: General Engineering 101,102,Maths 222,Physics234,etc.
Vo: Tell me about your course plan?
Me: To obtain a degree in computer engineering, I need to complete 106 credits, maintain at least a minimum GPA of 2.5 to keep advancing to each level and as well graduate with a minimum GPA of 2.5 too.
Vo: When did you graduate and what have you been doing?
Me: I graduated in 2014,in September 2014,I started a year and half intensive computer lesson at BODSLINK computers . After my training, I got a part-time job as computer lab assistant. I worked there for another year and half to gain more practical skills and management strategies on Computer. In 2017,I started my college preparation.
Vo: Why did you choose to go to a U.S school?
Me: I chose to study in the United States because the U.S universities offer excellent research opportunities through several assisantship programs. U.S universities have a well designed educational system that strikes a balance between theoretical knowledge and practical skills. A degree and academic experience from U.S universities is highly valued especially in terms of securing employment. on top of all these, the United States is the best destination for students seeking for a tertiary education abroad, and particularly, for STEM courses.
Vo: Who is your sponsor?
Me: My uncle
Vo: Why your uncle what does he do?
Me: My uncle has been playing a very big role in my education for a very long time. He believes it'll be a good investment for me to advance in my academic, so he's very obliged to continue catering for my education regardless of the cost.
-He's a lawyer by profession but has a very large school here in Abuja, has a couple of estate business he manages, and owns two lounges here also.
Vo: What are your plans after graduation?
Me: Upon graduation in May 2023,I'll come back to Nigeria for my compulsory NYSC program, afterwards, I'll seek for employment in top ranked technical innovative firms or a lecturing job in one of the universities in my state.

Sharwama, fairheart,Time2win,brown2green,lagosismyhome,walspring,nahum77,naughtyvirgin....please guide me here

Can you really pick up a lecturing job here in Nigeria after your Bsc in America without having a Graduate degree? I think you should remove that lecturing job part, unless you intend to be a secondary school teacher or probably you are sure of making a first class in your undergraduate degree in America for you to be considered for a lecturing job back home in Nigeria.

Visa approved at Lagos Embassy, 30th July 2019

School: Clarkson University

Funding: 66,000$ (Tuition and stipends)

Course : Msc Chemical Engineering

This was my 9th attempt, 7 in Lagos, 2 in Abuja

Here is my today's visa transcript:

V.O: (Looked at my i20) I see you have a teaching assistantship, what will you be teaching?

Me: I will be assisting prof. ... in grading students papers, invigilating test and exams, other teaching duties will be assigned upon resumption

V.O: what was your undergraduate Major?

Me: chemical engineering

V:O Where do you work and what's your duties?

I currently work as a process engineer at D***y Industries Limited and stated my duties

V.O: (Started typing for a long time and checking his system, he was shaking his head too and my mind was beating fast.) He asked, have you travelled outside the country before?

Me: Yes, I have been to Ghana

V.O: is it by flight or road and how many times

Me: I travelled by road and that was sept last year and came back same month

V.O: (Went to meet another V.O, he stayed there for like 4mins, I don't know what they were discussing). After he came back, he asked... What's your plans after graduation?

Me: Upon completion of my masters degree, I will be resuming a new position at my current place of work as a senior process engineer and I am going to be on a paid study leave (I brought out the letter, he saw it and said he doesn't need it, I pushed my letter back to my file).

V.O: (Typing for a very long time and checking stuffs on his system) you have been to Abuja embassy last time, what transpired there?

Me: During my last interview, the V.O wasn't convinced that I am a credible student and hence I was refused. I have come to demonstrate my credibility as a student, I wrote GRE and scored 324, had a good grade (1st class) and believe i definitely do very well during my masters studies at Clarkson University. (He nodded)

V.O: (Started typing again and checking stuffs on his system), You applied for safety science at Embryl Riddle Aeronautical University in 2017, why the switch to chemical engineering (For my mind, e don come again o)

Me: That's was when I finished my National Youth Service and was working with a firm so i needed to increase my safety knowledge but since I changed place of work and now dealing with chemicals, I needed to develop knowledge in the area of chemical catalysis and plasma processing which will be needed when I resume a new position at my place of work. (He nodded)

V.O: Do you have anybody in USA?

Me: No, I don't have anybody

V.O: (Typed for ages, for like 2mins and was checking his system, my mind was beating fast. He took my passport and those blue papers, I was like it's finished, another refusal. Immediately he brought out the white paper and circled a location, then said the golden words) YOUR VISA HAS BEEN APPROVED, then passed my i20 and sevis receipt

Me: collected my i20 and shouted Thank you sir!!! I ran out of the embassy and people were shouting what is it, I was running till i reached where I entered cab to my house cos it was like a dream or like i was watching a movie.

That's it... I saw God's favour today

Christmas gift came earlier. I am overjoyed for this approval cos u deserve it for being a valuable help to many people here who has tapped from your wealth of experience, God no dey sleep my dear bro. Chukwu gozie ur journey to Ana America.
