Hey Bro, I'm not from Lag but I stay there for business. I don't think you should make general statements. If u wanna enjoy Lag, you can, there's an impressive foreign community here. During weekends and evenings after work, you see them on their bicycles riding about freely or jogging through Ikoyi link. It depends on where you live bro. If you live in Mushin, expect ruffians. If u wanna live fine target estates, stay around Ikeja, Maryland, Ilupeju, Apapa, Festac extension, some parts of surulere, , Airforce/Navy barracks, I've not even started naming places bro, there are many cool areas as well as rugged ones but Mushin and Ajegunle are amongst the most rugged, you can't use them to judge everywhere. Island is very cool. Lagos is too big to generalise.

Oga I'm currently staying at one of the hotels at Ikoyi. Clearly, you should understand that I sleep and wake up, use the same swimming pool, bar and restaurant daily with the whitemen or whatever you call them.

I am only concerned for the average Lagosian's daily life experiences when juxtaposed with those of other city dwellers.

I was wondering about this over hyped stuff you kept repeating.

Did you go to the Market alone as a first timer in Lagos? That's a mistake, you won't get a good bargain. Do you know that there are major matkets for all items or goods? For example for Dubai fashion wears, US, Turkey and China,
For second hand fashion items and even jewelries. There are major markets for autoparts, food product, electronics, computer, etc.

Refuse disposal and sewage management is only good in rich areas and organized estates, many markets are terrible at managing their refuse, hence the odor

I've not encountered private vehicles being extorted, most LGs allow the collection of these money by the area boys from commercial buses/cyclists, it's like tax payment (which I don't support) even some police are involved.
Mushin is among the roughest areas na, so what do you expect? You won't see that in some other areas

Lagosians survive by making money na grin business thrives here.

Nobody should hype Lagos for you o, it's a commercial state where most people are after money.
I went to market with my cousin. I'm not a first-timer in Lagos market. I bought my first laptop in Lagos in my NYSC year. I have also been to Lagos a couple of times for job interviews and other issues.

To be sincere, I am not impressed with what I have seen in Lagos for the past few weeks I've been around here (judging from lifestyle and average standard of living).

I just feel Lagosians are suffering and smiling safe for the super rich.

Also, the traffic jams everywhere remain a big turn off for me.

DONADAMS:
overhyped in what way?
In everyway. I didn't want to carry luggage hoping to buy some clothes and shoes here. I was surprised that the price of clothes here were far higher than what we get in Aba.

The stench that pervades the air as you approach 3rd Mainland bridge from Ikoyi despite I don't wind down the car windows.

The long heavy traffic jam on the 3rd mainland bridge.

The constant estortion of area boys in Mushin.

I do not know how Lagosians survive. No wonder they are aggressive.

we won't be here discussing abuja or lagos. ...no sane person will even be crossing onitsha -asaba bridge.

I will be relating more with cameroonians and other nearby african countries than the 2 toxic cities mentioned above
Bro I'm currently in Lagos. The city is overhyped. I feel strong pity for it's residents. How they cope with daily traffic jam here baffles me. Na wa o. Make I do begin dey go back to the East.

Darkchick:
You can buy a small bag of pepper for #1500 in Azara market Kaduna road, and sold it's sold at the rate of #6500 in Lagos, a J5 bus can carry up-to 90 bags at one trip and they charge #110,000 per trip. Let's calculate.
#1500 * 90 = #135,000
#135,000 + #110,000 = #245,000

A bag to be sold for #6,500
#6,500 * 90 = #585,000

So.. #585,000 - #245,000 = #340,000.

Bro, # 300,000 is sure per trip.

There are many cheap stuffs you can buy from the north and resale in Lagos. E.g you can get matured goats for #4,000 each and resale for #12k or 11k.
The good thing is that you don't sell by yourself, dilaali (Hausa dealers) are readily available to sell for you while they charge a token from you.

You may think you're too big for these businesses but I bet the profit is cool.
Are you based in the north?

Romance / Re: I Will Be Ending A Toxic Relationship On Monday by sunbilor(m): 11:04am On May 20, 2018
ola9ja:
Most of these girls don't really love us, it's just a symbiotic relationship, I would be ending my present relationship on Monday, my birthday, I really thought I would get married to her but the relationship has become a toxic one so I had to move on with my life. I can not manage a toxic relationship, imagine sacrificing so much in a relationship that you have to go out of your own will to meet her needs , I have bought her phones twice, paid more than half of her house rent in school twice, it's a distant relationship and we have dated for 3years +, she hasn't even bought me an handkerchief before, I can't figure out one thing that I have learnt from her, I don't and won't regret what I have done for her but I am saddened that I have been in relationship with the wrong person for 5 fruitful years of my life. I will be 31 on Monday.

I don't regret spending on people but I usually get frustrated spending wrongly on people.

I like living people better than the way I met them.

I wouldn't really assume that I didn't learn anything from this relationship, I have learnt a lot and these are the things I have learnt...

1. Even the kindest person can turn into a cold-hearted person.

2. Even if you're madly in love, you should never think with your heart but with your brain.

3. You should never put your happiness in someone else’s hands because you never know when they will decide to leave you.

4. The more you show a person you love them, the less they will reciprocate or appreciate it.

5. It’s human nature to take things for granted, specially in long term relationships. They’ll always look for something better once the infatuation phase ends.

6. Relationships should not be governed solely by love, but also and most importantly by trust, understanding, maturity and SELF-RESPECT.

7. The moment you lose your self-respect you will see your partner as ‘too good to be true’. You will put them on a pedestal and be their slave. Never lose your self-respect and dignity.

8. Master the balance of power and you’ll master the whole relationship.

9. If you constantly show them you love them and care for them, they will start taking you for granted.

10. Distance yourself from your partner from time to time. It will help you see your relationship in a proper perspective.

11. Two main things should be present in a relationship: Trust and communication. If one of them is absent, your relationship is doomed to fail.

12. Being needy and clingy out of love is never a good idea because it will push your partner away and make them love you less.

13. The person that loves less in the relationship is the one in control of the relationship. It’s important to set a balance of power between you two or else one of you will definitely get hurt.

14. If your happiness is in someone else’s hands you’re rooting for conditional happiness. If they leave you, you will end up all alone, sad, depressed, hopeless and even suicidal. No one on this planet should control your happiness other than yourself.

15. The moment you hurt your partner, they will change forever even though you try your best to bring their good old self back.

16. Even if you give someone your heart, it’s not guaranteed that they will reciprocate.

17. The moment they start showing lack of interest, believe them instead of trying to convince yourself that they’re ‘mad’ or ‘going through a phase’ and that everything will be alright.

18. What’s meant for you will always be yours.

19. Sometimes God removes people from your life in an abrupt way because you were being led to danger.

20. If you walked away from a one-sided, toxic, negative, low-vibrational relationship, you won.
And the list goes on…

Most importantly, stay strong in any relationship you’re in. People come and go, the ones meant for you will stay. Stay strong when you're at your lowest and never let a heartbreak define you.

Just have faith and learn to always smile no matter what!
I understand you because I've been in your shoes. Don't change your mind later. Move on and don't look back!

this is why this country keeps going round in circles because youths are being trampled to the extent they have no say
