Brigadier General Ali Nani has been appointed as the new General Officer Commanding GOC, 8 Division, Nigeria Army in Borno State. General Nani takes the mantle of leadership from the outgoing Acting GOC, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Okonkwo, who stepped down Thursday. In a statement signed by the acting spokesperson of 7 Division NA, Lieutenant Wenke Tonye, on Thursday in Maiduguri said Mr. Okonkwo asked the officers and soldiers to accord the same cooperation to the incoming GOC. In his response, Mr. Nani commended the outgoing GOC for steering the affairs of the division in its fight to crush terrorists and insurgents out of Borno State. He also appealed to officers and soldiers of the division to work as a family and endeavor to render useful advice to him always in order to serve them and the Nigeria Army effectively. Mr. Nani added that achieving the desired results would only be possible with troops' commitment, professionalism and hard work while executing their assigned tasks. The new GOC promised to work with the commanders' various security agencies, including GOC 7 Division of Nigeria Army, 79 Composite Group, Nigerian Air Force and others to flush the remnants of Boko Haram insurgents in the State and northeast at large. Mr. Okonkwo expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt. General Tukur Yusuf Buratai for giving him the opportunity to serve in that capacity while thanking God for seeing him through despite the numerous challenges in the division. http://saharareporters.com/2016/07/14/brigadier-general-ali-nani-appointed-general-commanding-armys-8-division-borno-state

Bluffly: Can you see yourself. The best you can wish is for the Nigeria situation to go bad and yet complain it's going bad. Why won't it be bad, since all you see and has hoped for is bad, worse, and worst. Some set of Nigerians yearned for a better life by voting to change hands and instead of pessimistic individuals like yourself to embrace optimism hoping things go right through your own contribution and value creation, you rather chose to sit in your toilet to start ranting. If they voted the government and they are not getting what they want, when 2019 comes they will still vote another because these set of Nigerians will not deter till they they get what they want rather than settling for crumbs like yourself. Can you sow yam and reap cassava? If you sow yam, you'd expect to reap yam. Anyone who voted Buhari hoping for a positive change in the economy or hoping Buhari won't be nepotistic as he is doing now needs his head examined especially if that person was at least 10 years old in 1984. You can't sow apple and expect orange to germinate instead. |

Politics › Kasimu Abdulkarim Takes Over From Jude Egbudom As GOC 2div. Nigerian Army by sunnyb0b0(op): 8:14pm On Jul 08, 2016 |
Ibadan – Brig.-Gen. Jude Egbudom, the acting General Officer Commanding(GOC) of 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, has handed over to Maj.-Gen. Kasimu Abdulkarim who is the substantive GOC of the Division.
Egbudom handed over the command to Abdulkarim at the headquarters of the division in Ibadan on Friday.
Abdulkarim, who hails from Zuru in Kebbi State, was the Commandant of the Nigeria Army School of Infantry (NASI), Jaji, Kaduna State.
He was commissioned on June 22, 1985, and was a member of the 32 Regular Course of Nigeria Defence Academy.
Egbudom, who was appointed in acting capacity on June 22 would return to his former position as the Commander, Engineer Construction Command, Ede, Osun.
In his speech at the occasion, Abdulkarim charged officers of the command to cooperate with him, saying he would give his best in preserving the ideals of the army.
“We, as military professionals, must do everything within our ability to support our leaders in the fight against corruption and insurgency.
“I promise to be an example of good character and urge you all to emulate such.
“ You all should uphold the tenets of the army which are discipline, transparency and accountability, ’’ he said.
Abdulkarim said that military officers must remain professional and apolitical while rallying support for the leadership.
He called for the promotion of peaceful military and community relations, saying every act would be subjected to questioning as military professionals.
“Very high level of discipline is expected from our members even in the face of obvious provocation.
“We must learn media management skills that will enable us to explore the benefits of social and mass media in line with international best practices,’’ he stated.
The handing over ceremony featured the official parade and exchange of the command flag, the symbol of change in command. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/07/armys-2-division-gets-new-goc/?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter |

MrDavidson: Please let's not allow tribalism kill us. I'm sure many of us were expecting to see names like Chuk... or Ade.... The truth is, we need to know that the north is very diverse ethnicity-wise. Someone bearing names such as Aliyu could be a Hausa man from Kano, a Fulani man from Sokoto, an Ebira or Igala from Kogi, a Kanuri from Borno, a Yoruba from Kwara, etc - all in the north.
There are at least 50 languages spoken in Adamawa state alone, not to talk of the Nupes from Niger or Kwara. Let's stop lumping the north as one. It's possible that Buhari has not even appointed up to 18 Hausas since he took over.
However, when you hear names like Chukwuka, you're 100% sure he's Igbo unlike in the north. Or when hear names such as Ayokunle, he would be a Yoruba person. Please let's try to understand this very important truth. Do you know how many languages are spoken in Cross River state alone? Do you know how many languages in Delta state? |
