I'm sorry to say that you sound a bit ignorant here.

The Northern region is blessed with an enormous amount of mineral resources, agricultural potential, livestock potential, which when properly developed would enable the region to become self sustaining and major exporter of assorted goods. We have the potential to be the textile capital of Africa because we can produce enormous amount of cotton very cheaply.  Dangote is already doing wonders with cement.  Remember that groundnuts from Kano along with Cocoa from the SW were the main exports which sustained the country just a few years ago.  To say that the North without the South would quickly become another Somalia is a bunch of Balony.

I recall recently that there was chaos in the South simply because of scarcity of Onions. Please do not underestimate  mutual dependencies.
Some people (You) would argue that a Parasite actually brings benefits to its host.

Then why not extract and export all these minerals and educate your populace?

Northerners are a constant embarassment to Nigeria.

Its getting a bit much to stomach right now.

Rub that statement of yours in, as much as you like, Insha Allah you people will be shamed at the eventual success of our dear country. We will survive the growing pains with distiction, and we shall remain intact as one nation in the process.  As soon as we get a good handle on the dutch disease, the shaming of you seccessionists and pessimists who call our dear country cesspit, shall commence with full force.

It is worse than suicidal for ndigbo to be clamouring for spliting the country at this point. I mantain that the East is not big enough and the resources therein are not enough to sustain the population if just 50% of you return to the East. Given the current limited resources, kidnapping is the order of the day. I don't even want to think of what will be the order when you people return to the East.

SAI ONE NIJERIA.
at least 90% of Nigeria's GDP comes from the South.

The North contribute nothing - The North without the South would quickly become another Somalia.

You know this - and I know this.

i feel v.sad at the level of hatred that naijas hv towards each other, the saddest thing for me is that the politicians+elites+power mongers have successfully found that the easiest joker they can play and instantly get us divided n fighting among ourselves is the relgious or ethinic cards. anytime its played we play as they expect irrespective of individuals level of education or exposure, its enough to numb our abilties to reason. some coments by some people on this site make me wonder if there is any of us who is not a relgious or ethinic bigot.
i personally think going by the level of hatred we have we should all go our separate ways, but the question is will that mean either the sothern or northern country get peace? becouse think of it in the north the muslims can use as simple as sect difference to take arms against one another while in the south just becouse we come from different families/communities any slight issue is also enough to get us at each others throats. and come to think of it the cost of the division. has anyone given a thought to the fact all the hard earned nairas you have in the bank will instantly become worthless? has any given a thought to the economic impact and emotional consequencies? how do you compensate all the igbos who have invested heavily up north and vice versa?i think the solution of naija problem lies in equity & justice. i believe religious & ethinic violence will never stop untill we have courageous leaders that can insure justice is always metted to those behind these acts, wether a high imam or pastor becouse i personally hold our religious leaders responsible for these violence. naija is the most religious country in the world. in the books both religions talk peace & say love thy neighbor but i wonder what these people teach us in the confines of our mosques and churches, i hold them responsible for the immense hatred we habor. i say justice & fainess is the ultimate solution to our problem.
The hatred has been there for generations now and it would take generations for it to disappear.

As for splitting - There will be some short term losses - but long term gains for both the North and South.

The North will be free to wallow in their 'Sharia' and ignorance without recieving ridicule from the South.

The North can go and meet their past leaders for compensation.

Oil can be used to mitigate any loss made by a Southerner.

And long term with increased revenues and development Southerners will start to enjoy the quality of life they should have enjoyed over the last 50 years.

I dare the US to publicly express concern.

Unrest in the North is one thing but they cant afford for there to be unrest in the oil producing South.

They know what's what and will play their part to ensure GEJ's tenure is trouble free.
Politics › Re: The Hausas (an Alternate Pespective) by Sunofgod(m): 7:04pm On Apr 21, 2011
The North want Sharia and they want a Dictatorial Democracy?

I think the US predicted Nigeria would split by 2015 - this was never a prediction but an actual plan.

GEJ must see it through.

The North knows their days of 'R.aping' the rest of Nigeria are over.

These unfortunate events must not be in vain - they must be used as a catalyst to split this country and rid it of the parasite that has been plaguing it for the last 50 years.

Bawss1:
These are serious allegations. But weren't this elections adjudged by local and international observers to be the best Nigeria has ever conducted - remarkably free and fair? So how can you claim otherwise without any evidence?

I voted on Saturday's presidential elections and I can say that after the voting exercise all votes were counted in plain view of the voters so I am still struggling to understand how claims of rigging are possible.

I hope the OP doesn't mind, we have diverted the attention of this thread to this interesting digression  smiley
The elections were far from free and fair - but that's democracy.
We've seen underage voting, rigging, bribery, intimidation, etc

Democracy is not free and fair even in the west and I can cite examples from west to east (America to Russia to Australia)

Its a system of government that has been imposed on us and the rest of the world.
I see our own president GEJ as accidentally falling into the position of President.

He never went out and aggressively sought power. He fell into the position.
However he's not a so called 'strong man' and has/is going to be manipulated. (look into the appointment of Aganga for example)

The international observers have been schooled / trained. They know the agenda and their utterances will be to support the western agenda.

Back to the main topic:

Gbagbo would have played in his mind every scenario that could have happened if he didn't succeed in getting the west to back off.

He should/could have sent his wife away and fought the battle with his people and his army. He would have faired better.

But looking at the woman I'm sure she wouldn't want to have left her husband and I pray that she is not punished for her display of loyalty.

Screw the West and their puppets.

Politics › Rio Ferdinand Stalker Susanne Ibru Found Guilty Of Harassment - Nigerian? by Sunofgod(op): 11:37am On Apr 19, 2011
A woman who repeatedly turned up at the home of Premier League footballer Rio Ferdinand was convicted today of harassment.

Stalker Susanne Ibru, 38, twice disturbed the Manchester United player and his wife while they were asleep, claiming she needed to speak to him.

https://images.mirror.co.uk/upl/m4/apr2011/0/8/pic-pa-380135008.jpg

She was convicted at Macclesfield Magistrates' Court in her absence.

Ibru, who conducted her own defence, left court after being told Ferdinand's wife Rebecca, 30, was excused from giving evidence after giving birth to their third child, a girl, at the weekend.

Earlier, Ibru had questioned England star Ferdinand in the witness box, telling him as he left the court: "I'll see you soon, bye."

A warrant was issued for Ibru by District Judge Nicholas Sanders, who asked for her to be brought back before him for sentencing.

He said it was "quite clear" to him that the prosecution case against her was proved.

He said: "Mr Ferdinand is a high-profile footballer and whilst there will always be occasions where he is exposed to public and press scrutiny, the fact is that when he is in the privacy of his own home with his family he has a right to expect to be left alone."

Ibru, who was living in Peckham, south London, made the 400-mile round trip to Ferdinand's home in Alderley Edge, Cheshire, on February 21 last year, then again on June 16 and 18.

The 32-year-old Manchester United and England star told the court he was upset by the visits from the woman, whom he had never met.

"At first I was angry and upset but then disturbed, really, because I have got a young family and this was not the time or the place to be coming to speak to me," the player said.

On the first occasion, Ibru disturbed the couple, who were asleep, by pressing the intercom buzzer at the gates to their driveway in the early hours of the morning.

Ferdinand called his club's security who alerted police and Ibru left after being warned against harassment.

The second time, he was returning home at around 8pm when he saw her standing on the road opposite his house.

Police attended again and once more she was warned that she would face prosecution, but she turned up again two days later in the early hours of June 18.

Ibru again woke the couple using the intercom buzzer and she was arrested.

"The safety of my family is as huge to me as it is to anyone," the footballer said.

"Then you have people at your door talking about things that don't make sense.

"You want to be left alone with your family."

During her cross examination of Ferdinand, she claimed they had first met at the home of one of his relatives in 1998 - an occasion he said he did not recall.

The defendant, wearing a short black dress, replied: "I remember that very well - the first time setting my eyes on you, not just in a newspaper."

The prosecution case was that they were unknown to each other, although Ferdinand's mother Janice was briefly introduced to Ibru after a church function in 2003, the court heard.

Ibru managed to obtain Mrs Ferdinand's phone number and would phone her under some pretext, eventually asking after her son.

Mrs Ferdinand soon changed her number, the court was told.

Rebecca Ferdinand was also disturbed, telling police she was concerned for the safety of herself and her family as it "was not the behaviour of a normal fan".

Rebecca Ferdinand was excused from giving evidence following the birth of their daughter.

Ibru told the judge she wanted to question Mrs Ferdinand and, when she was told she could not, she walked out of court and failed to return.

The case continued in her absence with evidence from Detective Inspector Kevin Chambers, who spoke to Ibru outside the Ferdinands' home following the February incident.

He told the court she claimed she knew the footballer "from Peckham, south London" and she knew his mother "from church".

He also found a return train ticket from London in her pocket. The officer said he warned her against causing harassment.

Ibru never denied visiting the Ferdinand home but argued her actions did not amount to harassment.

But, giving his verdict, Judge Sanders said: "It is without question that it did amount to harassment of Mr and Mrs Ferdinand.

"Miss Ibru, I suspect, will say she didn't know but she certainly should have done."
