rkarang: Funnily enough, a friend of mine sat for GRE in second week of this month. He didn’t do any math review... he answers any Quant question one gives him in seconds without even writing anything down.
He’s such a smart dude... He knows his Verbal is weak, so he concentrated on Verbal... he learnt a few vocabularies and all... he didn’t use powerprep
In the eventual outcome of the test, his Verbal score was extremely low (tho on different test day, we had same score in Verbal) but his Quantitative score was superb (84 percentile)
So basically, the exam is bout what you’re made of. If we have to spend hours prepping for either or both aspect of the tests, it’s because we deficiency in either or both aspect of the tests.
I’m pretty sure if anyone sees his Quantitative score, such person would be curious to know the materials he used or his depth of practice That's why it is important to understand yourself and plan your study accordingly. I personally used only the ETS official books, ETS power prep and Barron's 1100 words for preparation. I knew I do not have the mental rigor to go through other voluminous books. So I focused on the nearest most likely questions I can encounter in the test. |

The guy above extracted his post from PROFAGAS GRE testimony (he had 331-Q167, V164) and study plan explanation.
I have screen grabbed the pertinent information in the document and share it here. it contains important key points that proved valuable in my personal GRE preparation.
But the main thing is each person should learn from others and formulate there personal approach.

lucexy: Yes. Actually, they wrote exams then, unlike now that when you get shortlisted you go for oral interview. In previous years before 2018, performing well in the organized aptitude can help your case without having outstanding academic qualifications and in 2018 your SOP/Interview performance have more significant in the grading percentage (75%). But in the last edition, academic achievements was given more significant preference in the percentage grading. Degree Class - 30% (30- 1st, 24 - 2'1, 18 - 2'2), O Level grade in 5 relevant subjects - 30% (A1 - 6, B2 - 5......C6 - 1), Notable Academic Awards 10% (4 max, 2.5 marks each), Publication 5% and SOP/Interview performance 25%. Irrespective of an applicant academic profile, my advice is to apply, compose a convincing SOP and to prepare adequately for the interview in order to maximize whatever point they will attach to each sections for the next edition. |

Pr0cter: That's a lie. Do you know that there's is a grading for nysc certificate and supporting documents?
It's mostly in rare cases a corper can be selected and it mostly those from the northern state where there is very less competition. Get ur fact right. In case you don't know, most cases of selected 2.2 / 2.1 are from the north You skipped my previous post where I said "provided they complete their NYSC and have the discharge certificate before the interview screening in April/May next year". It seems you are in the mood for argument. |

Pr0cter: Did they finally get awarded??
That's the thing. They will instead select those with the complete certificate after the interview Yes, two of them were awarded. Once you made it to the interview, it is up to you to make a case for your self and present your documents for grading. |

CsRockefeller: Nice.
I assume you are a first class graduate and have tried once or twice?
What did you study?
Aside this, is there any local one here in Nigeria?
I read Economics finished with a 3.86.
I want to further, though my preference is local institutions. Yes, there is Overseas and Local scheme. You can apply for both. |

Pr0cter: He won't get shortlisted. Most with complete document don't even get shortlisted I know about 10 people that got shortlisted last year, stop discouraging people. |

CsRockefeller: Yes. I met a lady in Abuja few months back at the NNPC HQ during the recruitment process, she recently got a Scholarship to study MSc in Chemistry at Grenoble in France.
She was among the 3 or 4 people picked from Lagos. She finished with a first class in Chemistry from Lasu and was the second overall best in Waec during her set.
It's fair and square. Her parents are just petty traders. A lovely girl she is, wish to meet her sometime in the future.
If you meet the requirements, go ahead and apply. Super competitive, 80% of those shortlisted will be first-class graduate with distinctions in major O level subjects. If you don't have any of the above, having numerous academic awards and a journal can make up for it. At the end you need God grace to make the final cut because there is little margin between candidates after aggregating all these factors. |
