Speaking about violence-

Koicereloaded, do not go around in the USA comparing Malcolm X to Hitler (or Boko Haram) because you will get beaten up for saying something both foolish and disrespectful towards black people.

As we all know, foolish ideas are very welcome on nairaland without consequences. In the real world, there are consequences.

I am not an American and so, I can tolerate your views on Malcolm X but I cant speak for everyone.

Dude...

You got it all wrong. You're equating morality to moral compass, which are 2 different things. Perception of morality, ie, the way an individual may think or understand GOOD and EVIL varies from individual to individual, BUT, there is a natural ability that enable us to analyse those two moral conducts and make the correct decision. We call that MORAL COMPASS. In some people, that moral compass is broken or screwed up, we call such people AMORAL or in more clinical terms, PSYCHOPATHS and SOCIOPATHS.

Malcolm X ain't the only African American to have lost loved ones. Many lost a whole generation, but didn't take up arms, because, they were smart enough to learn from history. When you take up arms against a superior-armed numerically advantaged oppressor, you're not only putting yourself in danger, you're putting your entire community/nation/village/tribe/race in danger for your own selfish reasons. They are the ones that will bear the blunt of it when you've fled or died. Their descendants will also bear the blunt of it.

Read up on the Apartheid South Africa. The whites were oppressing the natives, and the natives tried to take back their country by force. What happened? The worst segregation in the history of modern era. A native cannot walk down the street without a "pass" or a written note from their "massa". Violence didn't solve anything for the natives then, and never did, if anything, it made things worse. They did get their country back... eventually, but it took several years and it was as a result of PEACEFUL protest demonstrations at the front gates of the UN and the good old reliable DIPLOMACY.

Youthful Malcolm X set the Africa Amerians back several years by his violent approach because he refused to learn from history. Thank providence MLK undid some of those blights, else, things would have continued being dire for the blacks in America. Who am kidding, things are still dire, but it could be a lot worse, and they have MLK and JFK to thank for that, not Malcolm X.

He did, yes. He finally learned that violence begets violence. Alas, he got assassinated before he could rewrite the very legacy you're extolling.

Violence against an oppressor without a numerical or armory advantage is not only foolish, it's sucidal and counterproductive. Unless you have this, you're only digging a deeper hole for yourselves.

You talked about self defence, of course, people are allowed to defend themselves if their lives are at stake. When someone is coming at you with a knife, your natural instinct is to either run or defend yourself. However, It doesn't apply here, because the African Americans in the time of Malcolm X weren't exactly fearing for their lives. They are fully segregated, ie, they have their own separate towns, ride in their own separate buses, and have their own separate bars and market places. They wanted to be heard, to integrate, to be treated equally as the whites, not hide in witness protection programmes.

I don't believe that, and even if it were true, he made good in the end. His legacy brought about the first black president in the history of the United States. Nuff said.

O boy...

^^Please show me where I specifically said that freedom is wrong. Dude, stop misquoting me, please. There is nothing wrong with freedom provided you go about it through diplomatic channels. I mean, that's what I've been trying to drum into your skull since Wednesday, yes?

In the case of Haiti, their lives were at stake and everything. They were forced to live in squalor, flogged incessantly, raped, and left to die when they are too ill/weak to "earn their keep". They had two options: use their numerical advantage to liberate themselves from certain death or do nothing and die in captivity. Naturally, they chose the former. Thus, it was clearly self defense.

More so now than ever. It's clear you have a broken moral compass or it's screwed up. Doesn't bode well for you either way.

I have a broken moral compass? Wrong! The problem is that you are quite the delusional idealist.

Look at how you romanticised the Haitian revolution. Who told you they had superior numbers? They did not have superior numbers at the beginning. The first successful attempts spurred on many to join.

And isnt your "superior numbers" argument a fallacy? So violence is okay when there are superior numbers on your side? That is quite the darwinist morality you have there.

And for your information, Malcolm X's period was a period in America were blacks were still slaves in a sense. As far as I am concerned, a person is a slave if he has no rights. Black people did not have rights during that era until 1964. Malcolm X was not the only black man who felt the need to rise up. He had a following, lest you forget. There were even other groups with the same ideology.

It was violence that ended slavery in America. There was a civil war for that
It was violence that gave blacks rights in 1964. This was after many violent clashes with the police and civil rights protesters.

What I am saying in summary is that in certain contexts, violence is the best option. It is not that I believe in violence. When you enslave people, they have a right to fight for their rights.

In this modern day Nigeria, I do not see the need for violence when there are avenues for redress and no-one is enslaving me.

I also hope that you are not coming from a religious view on morality (objective morality) because that would be very indefensible.

By your logic, Boko Haram are bunch of activist too. They are clamouring for their own Islamic nation after all, or are they not? Dude... just stop, okay? Violence is not the answer. Your moral compass is all screwed up.

Morality is not black and white bro.

Malcolm X suffered hardships on a time when blacks had no rights. Put things into context as well. Malcolm lost a father and uncle to white supremacists.

However, Malcolm did move away from his prejudiced stance on white men in his later years.

Violence is the only language an oppressor understands. Violence has its uses. I am not a violent man but when it is a self defense issue, there is need for it.

Even the MLK you so love, engineered violence. He knew that hat his protests would end up with violence with the police.

Morality is not black and white.

I want to ask you 2 questions

1. Are you saying that the slaves in Haiti who killed their slavemasters for freedom were wrong?

2. Do you think that it is sensible to compare Malcom X to Hitler and Boko Haram?

In his youth, yes, Malcolm X would have exterminated the whites if the necessary resources were accessible to him. This is a man that held the belief that "all white men are evil" for crying out loud. And this is someone you're proudly extolling?? shocked

Hitler held the belief that all Jews were evil, I'm pretty sure he felt oppressed in his own way, and because he had access to the necessary resources, he acted on them.

Jesus! shocked

- First, Hitler is not famous, he's INFAMOUS. There's a difference.
- 2nd, people don't buy hitler's books because of "historical significance" - there are much better books for that - but for the "philosophy" (esp), market value (there are people that collect books written by infamous people and can pay a lot of money for one in a mint condition), and sheer curiosity.

You keep comparing Malcolm X to Hitler. You keep digging that hole.

Malcolm X was by no means a saint but he was a true activist.
TV/Movies / Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by superhumanist(m): 6:34pm On Jun 13, 2018
KoiceReloaded:

Hmmm. I'm shocked. You might as well say Hitler's "final solution" was the right call. You see, he had a legit reasons for hating the Jews (he was dumped by a jewish girlfriend, got his art rejected by a jew and the final stroke, the Jews were outbirthing the germans 3 to 1), but didn't in any way excuse him for exterminating millions and millions of Jews. When you don't get your way, you don't throw a tantrum, that are for babies and toddlers.

Do you honestly think that blacks would achieve half the things Luther achieved with diplomacy, with violence in a country they are outnumbered 90 to 10? How long would it have taken for the whites to exterminate them all? Remember the native indians? They chose to fight the superior armed whites, and got massacred like chickens, and now they live in reservations with deplorable conditions. Oppressors will never give you rights unless challenged, that is correct. But you don't challenge them by hauling stones and Molotov cocktail at them and destroying community properties and raping their women, rather, you appeal to their sense of empathy through diplomacy. You do it the MLK way: show them you're a human like the rest of them, that they were wrong about you. Don't give them a reason to shoot and ask questions later. If there is one thing I've leant about violence, it solves nothing, and sets you back several paces.

Malcolm X has a book that still sells, correct. And so does Hitler - his book, Mein Kampf is a bestseller. Hitler has a legacy too. Neo-nazis anyone? Truth is most famous and infamous people leave some element of legacy behind, but it's up to us as intelligent beings to choose the ones to follow and emulate. Malcolm X legacy only attracts militia minded people (people with victim complex) in much the same way Hitler's legacy attracts white supremacist and race bigots. I don't know about you but that's not a good thing where I come from... at all.

Dude, it's surprised at you oo. This is a f**king letdown. I tagged you for a rational person, and here you were with drunk assertions. You're practically supporting anarchy. It's a primitive way of thinking imo.

You just compared Malcolm X to Hitler and you think you are the one being rational.

Malcolm X was fighting for his people against oppressors. Who was oppressing Hitler?

There is a wiki entry on Malcolm X's legacy
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malcolm_X#Legacy

Malcolm X was prejudiced towards whites but even whites understood where he was comping from.

And there is a difference between mein kampf and books of other famous people.

Mein kampf is bought because of its historical significance and not that Hitler's philosophy is good.

Martin Luther King was the black Jesus, not the racist, antagonistical rebel called Malcolm X. Both of them wanted blacks and whites to be equal, but Malcolm X wanted them to remain separate, whilst King wanted them to integrate. Malcolm X is better known for the attitudes he held in his youth and as a member of the Nation of Islam. He believed that the white man is the devil, and blacks would never be treated equally under whites, and sought to establish a separate Islamic nation for all blacks, BY FORCE if necessary. MLK however, is a pacifist like the Biblical jesus and sought for the equality of blacks through more diplomatic method.

MCU satirized both in the X-men Chronicle - Charles Xavier is MLK and Magneto is Malcolm X, and who is more celebrated... Charles Xavier of course. MLK is a proud moment in African American history and thus has a national holiday celebrated in all 50 states of the United States every 21st January. Malcolm X has no legacy to speak of.

Malcolm X has legacy.

He was right about violence. Blacks did not get rights till there were protests and violence on the streets.

Oppressors will never give you your rights unless challenged. His books still sell.

Magneto achieved far more than Charles Xavier. He had his own mutant planet at the end.
