luvmijeje: OP, you're confused like your fellow Atheists and I will tell you why. What do they want to evagelise? They have no Constitution. They have have no principles. They have nothing to sell. They have no unique selling point.
Their reason for existence is majorly based on pulling Christianity down. You can't grow with that kind of negative philosophy. You have nothing positive to sell.
Confused elements minus my friend Frank317 and Seun who's working round the clock to resolve my issue. I am not confused. I am seeing very clearly. There are positive messages in humanism and secular morality. For instance, I tell people to do good for goodness sake (and not for any religion or god)If you have some spare time, please do some reading on secular morality. NPComplete: I agree with the OP. As someone who considered himself almost a Christian deist, I didn't always want to express myself openly until I found Nairaland. I used to think my opinions were on the extreme fringe of Nigerian society until I came here and found even more crazy people. Now I realise I am in the middle smack dab between extreme religious nuts and atheists.
Since I believe in a somewhat laissez-faire God, I believe in a God of variety based on the evidence I can see around me, I don't think any side is wrong per se. The people I take exception to are those who will seek to take a moral high ground or assert to the infallibility of their own ideals as if they have been to the afterlife and have irrefutable evidence for their claims. Usually these people are Christians and Muslims and I enjoy spending my time oppugning their claims.
The atheist argument serves the God I believe in. The God that isn't so insecure He cares what puny humans think of Him or concern Himself with foreskins. God doesn't care what religion we follow. If he did he would have wired the true religion and worship into our brains and save us these 1001+ denominations. I solidly agree with this. I always wondered why we needed to tithe to God? What would god need with our money I believe there is a god but not one that needs us to roll in the mud for him. |

frank317: I know most times we should live and let live but it is really difficult to see normal educated supposedly sensible humans talk and behave like imbecilesss because they believe so much in something so unreal and not want to talk and make them see how they are allowing themselves to become fools and used by their fellow humans.
- give their hard earned money to their fellow humans in the name of giving to an imaginary God - work hard to earn a living and give the glory of their acheivments to on man who just mumbled some nonsense words to them - easily see their gentle harmless grand parents as evil because their pastor had thought them evil comes from their enemies in the village - hate animals and call animals evil because of false testimonies of people turning to animals to hurt others - unknowingly Makin selfish statements when they say their God saved them from accidents and allow others to die - not help u when in need but think they have done much much for u by offering meaningless prayers for u - condemn other people's belief but feel offended when their is criticised - think it is okay for their God to burn unbelievers in hell for ever but protest when a people kill others for being unbelievers. - feel it's their birthright to disturb others with their belief but think others should not propagate their own belief.
Where do I stop and when do I start or where do I end... It's just difficult for one to see all these things and not want to open their head and see if they actually have brains. The best you can do is state the truth from a far distance. I know too well how wicked some dogmatic religious people can get when their religion is criticised. |

chemystery: When I was a christian, there was this friend I later hated so much due to his atheistic posts on Facebook. Sometimes I use to confront him via private messages but he would just ignore me, maybe cos we use to be close friends until we parted ways. He was in fact a nuisance to me on Facebook back then.
But today, I think I hate my friend more for ignoring me and not showing me the way, thus allowing me to wallow longer in religious delusion.
Each time I go to my Facebook timeline to see all my religious and Bible quotes, I feel ashamed of myself The best thing you could do is to still contact this friend. I'm sure you can get his number off facebook. Tell him how you feel and your current position. I'm sure he will be glad to have had an impact. |

winner01: Is there any where in the Bible where Christ beat up a witch or censored the beating or rejection of witches or other people who do not share the same views with you? Okay. I know there are horrible punishments in the old testament for witches. Let us not kid ourselves because we all know what goes on in village churches. Their version of christianity is extreme. There have been many cases of "child witch" killings or beatings. |

I must first state that I am not an atheist but I am a deist. I was enlightened by an atheist when I was a christian and I left the religion.
Having grown up in a religious village, I was exposed to a lot of superstitious beliefs which were sometimes harmful to innocent people. It was an atheist roommate in the city who helped me to understand that life is not kind to ignorant superstitions. I will never forget this roommate of mine who fought with me tirelessly in order to get me to stop doing ignorant things in the name of religion. I hated him in the beginning and now I really respect him.
I still believe in a god but not the christian god or personal god.
I believe that atheists have a role to play in Nigeria even if it only begins on the internet. Atheists could save many people from superstitious rubbish. What if I told you that I regret beating up a child who I thought was a witch? An innocent child. That was who I was when I was deeply religious. My point is that atheists should keep up the arguments and debates. You never know who you could change.
I know some people will disagree with me and that is fine. It is a free world. Peace. |

KingEbukasBlog: Why are atheists here discussing the bible , religious beliefs , religious doctrine when it has absolutely nothing to do with the existence of God . The deists who acknowledge the existence of God reject religious beliefs and question religious authority . Atheism is not the rejection of religion . There are religious atheists . So can an atheist explain the obsession with religious skepticism when it has nothing to do with the existence of God ? Why shouldn't atheists discuss religion? Being a deist myself, I can discuss anything from religion to politics. I am not understanding your point. I personally think anyone should be free to discuss what they like. If we are to go into theology, we can see that God is usually tied to religion. Not always but most of the time. So, I think the atheist can discuss religion. I am left wondering what the point of this thread was. |

kelvinreality: I am not an agitator for the independence of Biafra neither am I against the struggle of FGN to restrain them from moving. Being an objective observer, I will answer your question without any form of prejudice.
1) Any country in the world need resources to survive and the case in Biafra is not different. For me I do not think Biafra has the require natural resources to survive as a nation, but I do think ideas supersede natural resources in some countries if the required tools are not put in place. The world has gone pass the period of having excess resources without utilisation. If Biafrans have ideas that are futuristic then they will succeed.
2) Using Nigeria to judge? if yes, Biafran do not have competent leaders because Southeast state in Nigeria is also suffering from the problem of bad leaders.
3) The issue of border is a sensitive one. Apart from the fact that border line being drawn by the Biafran agitators does not look feasible. The state's bordering them look landlocked.
I do not have much to say, but the issue of Biafra is a sensitive one. You have made interesting points. It is not going to be easy for the biafran movement if they dont get their plans well organized. With the part of leadership, I wonder why they put their hopes on one man? What if he dies? |

DLondonboiy: First of all, whether you take IPOB seriously or not is not their business. IPOB does not even want you to take them seriously, cause you no help anybody!
So you hate IPOB because you feel it's bound to fail? What about the question? Can Biafra be a successful nation? |

PapaBrowne: When I hear IPOB give clear answers to the questions you raised. I will start taking them seriously.
I dislike when any movement is built on the for another group or person. And that's what IPOB has largely been about. Same way APC was built on the hater for Jonathan.
Such movements usually end up failing terribly when the subject of thier hate is gone. Same way APC is failing terribly. I am neutral on the Biafran issue. I am just asking questions to see how serious and pragmatic the movement is.

I am of the opinion that Nigeria as a single was doomed to fail from inception. I say this because the British man that ensured her amalgamation forgot to consider how different the various tribes in Nigeria are.
Yes, the Biafrans have a point. Nigeria should have never been one country. Tribalism is one of the major problems ailing this developing country of ours.
However, how successful would a Biafra nation be?
1)Do they have resources? 2)Do they have competent leaders? 3)How would they draw their borders?
I ask these three important questions because I am not sure that they have positive answers to these issues raised by such questions. For instance, they do not have crude oil and a lot of foods stuffs in Nigeria come from the middle belt and the north but not the east. Do they even have sea ports? Are eastern states as developed as the southern states?
Please, mature opinions. |
