Nairaland GeneralRe: Beware Of Trailer Drivers On Long Distance Journeys by Sweetlemon(f): 12:05pm On Jul 03, 2013
Are you guys just hearing stories like this?? :O
E don tey nau!
I have been hearing of countless ones and have seen @ least 2 incidences.
The first time, a lady who was trying to cross the road slipped and fell. A container trailer which was on the road kept on coming with full speed although other cars had slowed down. Everyone screamed in fear at the driver to slow down but he kept on going as if nothing was happening. The woman's long attire was preventing her from getting up on time but luckily for her summersalted and thus escaped being smashed by the truck. As in she was just a second away from disaster!!!!!!
The 2nd one I saw was anoda container trailer which severely bashed a car but zoomed off like nothing happened although the occupants sustained injuries.

Foreign AffairsRe: Are Nigerians Actually Happy People - Myth Or Fact by Sweetlemon(f): 9:17am On Jul 02, 2013
Happy?
Naaaaa
That's not the word to use here.
HOPEFUL is more appropriate.
"God dey" is the motto of every Nigerian. So no matter how bad the economy is, no matter the situation of things, people will always have hope that God will work a miracle someday...... because they are too cowardly to demand for a better life.
In other words, Nigerians are too used to the status quo that they have mentally accepted it. Hence, since they believe they can't do anything about it, the only thing left for them to do is laugh over it.
That does not make us truly happy and content. A smile or laughter that does not come from the heart is not real.
You can see the evidence of the psychological effects of suffering and smiling on the streets, offices, markets, neighbours, etc. People waiting for the tiniest excuse to bring down fire and brimstone on anyone who mistakenly steps on their toes. Jungle justice, even on NairaLand! Check out some people here who cannot comment without hatred and jealousy oozing form every word? we take out our anger and bitterness on ourselves! EVERYDAY!
So abeg leave that thing.

CelebritiesRe: Mike Adenuga Paid N200Million For A Burial Space In A Cemetery by Sweetlemon(f):
Billyonaire: What the Bull has done, is not about the money, its about the act. It is a constant reminder to him that his death is inevitable and will come when it will come. It reminds him not to tarry and stress up like me, it reminds him that he should retire and think about the life after death. 200 million looks much, but for anyone determined to succeed, it is very small amount. It cant even buy you life but burial spot.

This is how billionaires reason, the poor has their opinions, but their reasoning almost always makes no sense to the rich.
Exactly. Rich people and poor people don't think alike.
Rich people plan ahead of time and make huge investments in things they believe will be of great value to them.......and that's exactly why they are rich!
Mike Adenuga lived like a king on earth, so let him die like a king as well if he can afford to. At the end of the day, it's money that talking. Any body who has worked hard for their own money reserves the right to spend it as they wish.
Chikena!

TravelRe: Nigerians And Fake Accent by Sweetlemon(f): 7:41pm On Jun 30, 2013
delors: Siddon there. Look, it's not a matter of fake accent o. As the OP says, our pronunciation and way of drawling when talking is terrible. For instance, a typical Nigerian doesnt know the difference in pronouncing 'cause' and 'course', 'four' and 'for', 'to' and 'two', and annoyingly, 'fate' and 'faith'. Sit down and listen to a Nigerian talking, try to see if u would understand their pronunciation of those last two words. Words like turkey, burn/born, wander/wonder, are very problematic for Nigerians. Even Ethiopians pronounce better than we do.
So, if you are abroad, and because some uninformed persons are saying you r faking your accent, let them talk. the best way to communicate abroad (esp in the states and Canada) is to sound like them. When u are with your people, correct, pidgin dey flow soosay, but looking for a job? mingling with the whites or foreigners? Bros, adjust that your accent otherwise, you'd be an island in that land.
When i first heard my aunt speak a sentence to a white, I mocked saying why the heck was she yarning like ajebo...she nodded and said 'e nu e lo wa yen' (meaning, u'll soon understand). So forget fake accent o, na survival tactics.
Mean while, in some cases, one doesnt deliberately fake it, it comes naturally when u mingle with these foreigners..like mine. But it makes no sense to sound Americana when u arrive in Nigeria na...na quick invitation to armed robbers be that.
Survival tacticts ko, suffering tactics ni!
It's simply low self esteem. Finish!
You guys have NO idea how funny you sound when you fake accents. Who told you that you cannot speak good and correct English with your own accent? Juust pronouce your words properly and you will do just fine!
Smh
TravelRe: Nigerians And Fake Accent by Sweetlemon(f): 7:25pm On Jun 30, 2013
Some people are funny sha o!
Who told you an American will not understand you in your normal Nigerian accent? If you can understand them why can't they understand you? See me see trouble o!
Although I'm more conscious about my grammar when I'm around oyibos, I still speak with my normal accent and they understand me as well as I understand them.
The only time they won't understand you is when you are not speaking correct English or when you add too much 9ja slangs.

My life itself is a miracle!
Anyone looking at me today will have no idea what pains and struggles I have been through cos God kept me, refined, and strengthened me through it all.
No one will have the tiniest idea that there was a time that my self esteem was zero. But today I can hold my head up even in the midst of royals.
This year, I have found true love, gotten a promotion at the office and even about getting a better job.
The favour God lavishes on me everywhere I go leaves me breathless.
I can't thank him enough. But he knows how grateful I am.

CFCfan: No worries. Sometimes, we all have our disagreements. Heck, I don't always share the same views with my siblings/parents, but we still love ourselves.

Anyway, in today's world, money is the medium through which power is acquired.
Yes, you are right about money being the medium which power is acquired. Truth is that money and power are inseparable. When you have one of them, you are guaranteed of the other.

Abagworo: It shouldn't be a headache to anyone. The headache should be how to develop Nigeria, reduce tribalism and corruption. When all that is done, then a credible census can be conducted with ethnicity and religion included. As for now, all are mere speculations.
I really don't know why some people with all their education, can not just figure this simple fact out!
What you wrote is ALL Nigeria needs to move forward. I pray God begins to make more people think like you
PoliticsRe: How Did Ijaw Become The 4th Largest Ethnic Group by Sweetlemon(f): 1:51pm On Jun 23, 2013
ballabriggs: Igbo people like to "claim relationship". I see why Osuofia the great sang the song, "Know mw when I'm poor not when I am rich, you claim relationship". They claim everybody around the Niger Delta are their brothers because of oil. My question now is, where did the Igbo man originate from? They would tell you they are Jews and they originated from Israel. Yet there is no clear link between them and the Jews. Uwazurike at a time was deceiving the 'inaga' riders in Owerri that they were working towards "unrestricted entry for Biafran's to Israel". For what now, to spread their 'Otokoto' lifestyle? Me thinks the Igbo man was banished from Congo for fraudulent practices. I have enough prove to this.
Lol! Don't mind them!
We have NOTHING in common with Igbos. It's only other south-southerners that we can claim such with cos we have similar traits and dressing. Eg bowler hats, caftans, blouse and goerge, etc.
Also south-south men in general drink "kai kai" a lot and womanize more than most other men from other regions.
So Igbos, abeg park well, go and look for your own oil and stop claiming brotherhood with us cos of our oil.
Lol!
PoliticsRe: Money Or Power, Which Would You Prefer And Why? by Sweetlemon(op): 1:21pm On Jun 23, 2013
CFCfan: I'll prefer to have money. Money ultimately buys power, as Nigerian/American politicians will attest to.

Awww! How sweet!

I love REAL men who can take it like a man without hard feelings kiss
PoliticsRe: Money Or Power, Which Would You Prefer And Why? by Sweetlemon(op): 1:10pm On Jun 23, 2013
pro01: Money has greater 'universal' applicability than power, and is therefore more useful and more enduring in most cases. What do I mean? Power is often transient, ask the likes of Buhari or even Obasanjo. Money, on the other hand, if plenty enough, has no term limit - ask the likes of Seriki Aliko Dangote.

Besides, a provincial power broker is powerless outside his jurisdiction, whereas money gives you influence and freedom across borders because it is a universal language. A Nigerian Chief of Army staff is powerful in Nigeria, but he is a nobody in, say, Spain.. On the other hand, a business mogul like Mike Adenuga, a Forbes- rated Billionaire, would enjoy the privileges and leverage great wealth brings in ANY part of the world. Ask my 'overall' chairman, Roman Abramovich.

Lastly, power is often relative and contextual, whereas money answereth all things. A typical university lecturer wields immense power over his students, and can often have his way (sexually) with an attractive female student within his domain of power, but he cannot do same with a student in another faculty in the same university. However,, an immensely wealthy student can use his great wealth to seduce as many girls as he pleases in the same campus, regardless of her department or faculty.

Money answerth all things, and when deployed with wisdom and cunning, it can buy you immeasurable power and influence. I know several wealthy Nigerians that are practically above the law on account of their wealth.
Some solid points you have there. But don't forget that moneyy has wings but power always leaves a lasting trail behind esp when it is handled properly. An example of this is Tinubu. He's has been able to gather enough loyalists and admirers to provide him with what ever he needs for the rest of his life.
Any power gotten from wealth often fades after the money vanishes.
There's just something about being in charge....

Oahray: come to think about it. Mr and Miss NL could actually be read the way you lke. For some, closer to FACE OF NL, than just a MOST HANDSOME/BEAUTIFUL pageant. The former is more encompassing.
I'm sure most of you do not read my posts well, else you would have seen where I said that Patrick sounds like someone who knows what he wants from life. So does that not tell you that I'm not voting beauty onlyhuhhuhhuhhuhhuh
Must you guys criticise everything sweetlemon says?
Pls where did I even insult Ekwah here? I just said that his life story was not enough to overshadow Patrick's eligibility! Simple!
The next thing, they start taunting me about my Miss NL loss, look here, if you guys cannot stop connecting every single word I say to miss NL, don't you think it may just be your consciences disturbing you?? Huh?

Wow! Thank goodness some people's conscience did not allow them rest until they confessed that Patrick was indeed a formidable opponent which they had to look for ways to bring down.
And as for people saying that Ekwah should have won just because of his life story, with due respect to Ekwah, and indeed I admire him, it was just not enough to overshadow Patrick's machoness. Patrick's responses shows that he's a big dreamer, a go getter, someone who has a clear focus of what he wants from life. He oozes "Macho", Alpha-maleness, and brawns. Those are what male pageants are all about! Remember it's a pageant and not a "who struggled more in life" contest.
Cheers!

I am sure she has her reasons and I intend to find out.

Madam sweetlemon, what made you vote for AbPatrick?
You are really not serious @ all!
You don't know jack about me cos if you do you'd have known that I don't vote people based on sentiments but merit!
I don't give a damn if AB patrick's campaigners are club 15 or club 0. I don't give 2 rats if they are my friends or my enemies. All that concerns me is that I came in and saw the most handsome, and sexiesst guy on the list and decided to clear my conscience by voting for him. If Patrick wants to join the club and hate on me after winning, good for him! But I would have cleared my own conscience
I voted Lucenzo, a loyalist of club 15, and will vote him a million times over if placed with the same contestants.
I'm a full grown woman, not some college girl under peer pressure to be loyal or disloyal to anybody or clique.
