Boko Haram: Obasanjo’s visit and implications
Recently Former president Olusegun Obasanjo paid a visit to the Family of Mohammed Yusuf ,The slain leader of the Fundamentalist Jamaatu Ahlil Sunna Lidawati wal Jihad (J.A.S.L.J), aka Boko Haram sect in Maiduguri .
This visit has been lauded by many and criticised by some notably by Professor Wole Soyinka who said Obasanjo’s visit was an insensitive ego trip , describing it as “It is an act of aggression, a slap in the face of the bereaved and wounded, including the permanently disfigured. It desecrates the memory of the fallen and casts doubts on any claim to humanism and capacity for compassion of the Nigerian people.”
It is widely believed that the visit is an attempt by the former president to negotiate with the sect, but in a swift reaction to this ,Obasanjo has denied that he went to Negotiate with Boko Haram. “No, far from it, I did not go there for negotiation; my visit was a learning process,” said the former President, he affirmed that he was not representing the Federal Government in order to open a doors for possible negotiations between the Government and the radical sect as widely speculated.
However barely three days after Obasanjo’s widely reported visit to the family of the slain leader of the Boko Haram sect. the new head of Family Babakura Fugu who played host to the former president was murdered in cold blood. He was shot dead at his house by people believed to be members of the sect. but in a swift reaction A so called faction of the Boko Haram sect has denied involvement I the killing of Babakura Fugu describing his death as painful Hours after a splinter group of the Jamaatu Ahlil Sunna Lidawati wal Jihad (J.A.S.L.J), aka Boko Haram was quoted on a BBC radio broadcast, claiming responsibility for the Saturday’s killing of their ex-leader’s brother in-law, Babakura Alhaji Fugu.
Leading some to think that Obasanjo’s visit must have sown a seed of discord among members of the sect, but is this so?
So many questions seem to be in the air, and the questions raising more questions.
Has Obasanjo’s Visit really caused a division in the sect ? are the members of the sect trying to prove that they have a code which Babraku has broken and they can go to any length to tie loose ends? Or do they just feel Babaraku knows too much to be trusted? Is it that those behind the sect are bent on destabilizing the country and wants to eliminate any probable avenue of negotiation that can possibly lead to a peaceful resolution? Obasanjo said in the interview in which he denied going for negotiation that “A group of people cannot just come together and start fighting and bombing. They are not mad people. Something must be responsible for their action; that is what we need to find out,”
Did he find out the true reason behind Boko Haram’s aggression attacks? Political, religion ethnic or a mixture of all three? Can you ever negotiate a favorable win-win outcome with a terrorist group? The president said he knows the sponsors of the sect, then what is he waiting for, are they untouchable? Who are those behind President Jonathan as his god father(s)? Who are those trying to make Nigeria Ungovernable? If the presidency is aware of the people trying to set the nation on fire, why play politics with the lives of the Innocent? Why cant the people of Nigeria rise up and say we have had enough we are starting an Arab style revolution?

She said the woman appealed to them not to beat her, but to open the door and allow her go out of the premises.

I always see stories like this on Tabloids like PM news and always assume it was made up to make quick sale. in this case i was in court life and direct earlier today when the testimonies of witnesses and when the accused confessional statement was read to the hearing of the court.i also saw the picture of the roof through which the woman crashed into the complainants roof through the roofing sheets and asbestos. the questions is how did this happen and to those who never believe this kind of story , what possible explanation could we give this. i will love to hear the atheists's opinion too.

This letter had to be written anonymously because we have been ‘instructed’ not to speak to the press. We are appalled by Olisa Adibua’s actions, and feel his physical assault on Dewunmi was barbaric and completely wrong. What’s even more shocking is that he wasn’t removed from the premises immediately. Olisa was his usual self the day after the incident, and was seen chatting and laughing with the GM Deji Awokoya (who was well aware of the assault). He was still permitted to do his show on Thursday, and went on to host the Beat of Lagos on Friday night.

We have no idea why the management at Beat FM has decided to treat this so leniently – he has actually been suspended for 2 months and not 4 weeks like you previously stated. Nevertheless, the majority of us feel 2 months is nowhere near enough, we are certain that anyone else would have faced an instant dismissal and possible legal charges.

To clarify details of the incident, the ‘object’ used in the assault was a brick. Olisa initially attacked Dewunmi with his bare hands then went downstairs to retrieve a brick then came back for part 2. He deliberately smashed his phones and dragged him outside, forcing Dewunmi to recover in a Keke Maruwa parked outside the office till 7am when more staff arrived. The incident was caught on CCTV, but will of course never be released. The GM Deji Awokoya apologized to Dewunmi on Olisa’s behalf, and was given about N16k for his medical bills. Please note it wasn’t a fight – Olisa attacked Dewunmi, and he refused to hit Olisa back because he considers him an oga. Dewunmi refuses to press charges because he’s afraid he’ll lose his job – furthermore since this incident hit the press, he (Dewunmi) has been receiving death threats saying that he’ll be harmed if this incident escalates further.

Olisa has had several run-ins with members of staff at Megalectrics (owners of Beat FM, Classic FM and Naija FM). On numerous occasions he has verbally abused different people – insulting them, swearing at them and threatening to make their life at Megalectrics ‘a living hell’ if they cross him. Management hasn’t reprimanded Olisa once for this.

This incident is sadly just one of many that involves Olisa Adibua bullying employees at Megalectrics.
To summarize, we hope that the MD of Megalectrics reprimands Olisa ‘appropriately’ to show that this kind of action is unacceptable. Likewise MNet/Glo need to seriously think about the messages they are sending out to the public if they decide to keep Olisa on as a judge for ‘Naija Sings’.
