It is a no brainier really. Every religion established by a person often keeps vestiges of the one from which this founder emanates. Christianity came from Judaism, so the earliest Christian Church, the Catholic church, keeps vestiges of Judaism. That's visible for example in their Priests and bishops dressings compared to the synagogue priests of Judaism, use of Incense in their worship, even in the Bible compiled by them you find common books used by both religion etc. Same way, Islam arose at a time when the Catholic Church was the only Christian church on ground. Vestiges of her practices and faith will naturally be deposed in Islam. As the times get wider and the religion is influenced by other factors such as modernism, breakaway factions-also depending on why they left- may look less and less like the earlier ones.

2. One who confesses, this is just in use of English. In the church, this person is rather called Penitent.
3. This is the one we're interested in. These are people who lived a holy life, most often heroic in defending the faith by their words, writings and actions, they only didn't have the opportunity of matyrdom, yet the Church recognizes in them an immense desire to witness for Christ with their lives. Other apostles of Christ are Matyrs, but John is a Confessor, even though they threw him in a drum of oil, but he didn't die. That's why on John's feast day, that our brother, that one...you know na, will wear white instead of red for matyrs.

Nice one. I hope we don't misunderstand the confessor part (as I made bold above) to mean priests. Confessors in this sense are people who lived and defended the faith but didnt die as matyrs .

I'm just amazed by what has been coming out of Ahiara. It's now so bad that the secular world is now an example to the Church. The present Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe university Awka; in Anambra state, Prof. Ahaneku, is from Mbaise in Imo State. Yet Bishop Okpaleke from Awka cannot be Bishop in the Mbaise diocese of Ahiara. It's just so appalling.

Believe me, I already heard of another diocese holding a meeting of their religious to reject in advance the bishop being rumored to be prepared for them, for same reason as Ahiara. I am glad the Pope stated it clearly that this is not tribalism when he said "I think that, in this case, we are not dealing with tribalism, but with an attempted taking of the vineyard of the Lord."
