LATE PA SAMUEL ADIGUN OLADIMEJI ABIOLA – an economist, political scientist, scholar, philosopher and business entrepreneur. He was a native of Oyo and an erudite scholar during his lifetime. In a bid to immortalize and remember his past works and achievements, SAMUEL ADIGUN AND JOAN ABIMBOLA ABIOLA FOUNDATION was established.
JOAN ABIMBOLA ABIOLA – a Teacher, Bible Scholar and an evangelist. She was a graduate of International Relations from the prestigious university of Ife. Before her death, she was the headmistress of a prestigious nursery and primary school in Osogbo City, Osun State.
THEME OF THE WRITING CONTEST – BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL
• Entries must be written in English and be the original work of the Writer
• Participants are encouraged to be creative in their response
• Entries can be submitted in number of formats, for example: poem, short story, script or essay
• Multiple submissions are not allowed and will lead to disqualification.
• Entry closes March 31, 2015

2. Spelling Bee Contest in Yoruba – All the works of the late sage (D.O. Fagunwa) shall be used to test your student’s ability on pronunciation and word spellings in Yoruba.
3. Reading Contest – Your students shall read from the works of the Late Novelist.

Conditions of entry
• The Award is open to Nigerian Citizens normally resident in Nigeria under the age of 35.
• Entries must be the original and published work of the author.
• Participation is free
• Individual writer must attach a copy of their CV.
• Only one entry per person.
• Entries close on 30th of May, 2015. Late entries will not be accepted.
• Each entry must be submitted as a hard copy. The entrant’s information must be attached on a separate page.
• 5 copies of the submitted book(s) must be included
• Entries will not be returned, so remember to keep a copy.
• An entry will be disqualified if it is handwritten or in manuscript formats (entries must be printed copies).
• Entries are read and judged by a panel selected by judges. If, in the opinion of the judges, no entry meets the standard expected, no award will be made. The judge’s decision is final. The organizers reserve the right to withdraw any unsuitable entry.
• Copyright of submitted work will remain with the author. The names of winning entrants and copies of their winning entries may be published on the Society’s website.
• All finalists will be notified by June. 1st, 2015

IJESHA FAMILY TREES/DIRECTORY
This is an initiative geared towards collating and publishing of names of Prominent and indigenes of Ilesa son and daughters and their family roots. We hope to work with prominent stakeholders in order to achieve this aim and objective. This project will allow Ilesha sons and daughters to know their family histories, how their names got into being and how they got to where they are now.
 
IJESHA BOOK OF THE MONTH
This is an initiative of the Ilesha Book Club and Ilesa Writers and Artists Forum towards promoting good authors and good books in Ilesha and its environs. Interested authors can submit their favourite books or the organizer of this initiate can seek for the book of the month themselves. We accept text books on all subjects, literary books like poetry, prose and drama. A selected book of the month would be given a letter and a certificate of Achievement.
 
Ilesa Library, Information and Resource Centre
This is an initiative of the Ilesha Book Club and Ilesa Writers and Artists Forum geared towards promoting reading culture and sharing of useful information. This is to recognize, award and reward outstanding Ijesha Youths who are making the tribe proud in all their areas of endeavours. It is a yearly event where their skills, talents and intelligent would be appreciated. Some committees would be inaugurated to fine tune criteria’s for each award in different categories.
 
ILESA MONARCH OF THE MONTH
We are fully aware that some kings are more hardworking than others. Some kings are more committed to the growth and development of their communities than others. Our initiative hopes to award, reward and recognize those kings who are hardworking, loyal and committed to the welfare and infrastructural development of their communities and people.

 
ILESA LOCAL GOVERNMENT OF THE MONTH
Grassroots politics plays a major role in the development of democracy in the country. Committed and dedicated council boss in their respective local government areas should be encouraged, rewarded and awarded by their communities in order to expect more from the chairmen of their respective local government areas in their environs. Our team hopes to achieve this idea by awarding and recognizing peoples oriented local government areas in Ilesa and its environs.
 
WHO IS WHO IS IJESALAND
This is a publication displaying the biography of prominent people from Ilesaland. It will cross across all endeavors of life. It will not only feature only Ijesa sons and daughter at home but also in abroad.
 
ILESA HALL OF FAME
This is another way of recognizing those IJESHA sons and daughter who have contributed immensely to the national development of the country.
 
ILESA LITERARY AND TECHNOLOGICAL YOUTH EMPOWERMENT INITIATIVE
This initiative blends both literary arts and science and technology together. We hope to build, develop and hone the literary and technological skills and techniques of Ijesa youth for national development. We shall be organizing thought-provoking workshops and conferences aim at catching them young.
 
ILESA PHOTO GALLERY
This initiative is like a database where photographs of Ijesha professional photographers would be deposited. The idea is to have a customized platform for showcasing the beauty of Ijesa photography.

It is an online newspaper aim at recording the political, economic, technology and artistic news from Ijesaland. It is a monthly edition.

IBADAN BOOK CLUB SET TO LAUNCH “CONSTANTINE’S CONFESSION”

In a press statement recently released by Mr. Giwa Olayiwola the National Coordinator of Ibadan Book Club, disclosed that its proposed book launch will take place on the 22nd of November 2014 at the Alliance Francaise Hall, Seventh Day Adventist, Iyaganku, Ibadan by 12:00 noon.
The Special Guest of honour is Mr. Akin Bello, the two terms Chairman of the Association of Nigerian Authors, Oyo State Chapter and the 2014 Winner of the Wole Soyinka Prize for Literature. The Book, “Constantine’s Confession” Written by Dare Akinola focuses on the situation in most of African Countries. The proposed Book launch will also feature arts exhibition, short performance, lecture and readings by upcoming and established writers.

The Society of Young Nigerian Writers is now calling for submissions from young Nigerian poets residing in Nigeria and outside for its Songs of Unity : An Anthology of Poems to Mark Nigeria @ 54 Independence which will also be dedicated to the Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Alh. Tafawa Balewa and Alh. (Chief) Ahmadu Bello.
SYNW Members and intending members are to compose poems of 40 lines to 60 lines on any topical issues ranging from politics, religion, corruption, terrorism, bad economy, bad governance, stealing, kidnapping, raping etc.
The scope of this project is to sample the opinions of Young Nigerian Poets residing within and outside Nigeria on the level of progress and failures recorded by our leaders after fifty three years of independent.

• Language Medium – English, Hausa and Igbo
• Poetry Type – Any
• Participants should be between the ages of 10 and 35
• Poems should be between the minimum of 10 lines and maximum of 50 lines

The NIGERIAN WOMEN WRITERS FORUM - TEEN AUTHORS COUNCIL is calling for submissions from female teen writers between the ages of 10 and 17 residing in Nigeria and outside for “WE CRY BACK FOR OUR GOOD LAND – Collections of literary works in celebration of Nigeria @ 54 Independence.
This edition will be dedicated to the Chibok Girls and the parkistan’s teenage activist Malala Yousafzai.
Intending entrants and participants are to submit poems, short stories, playlets on any topical issues ranging from politics, religion, corruption, terrorism, bad economy, bad governance, stealing, kidnapping, raping, child trafficking etc.
The scope of this collection is to air the opinions of female teen authors in Nigeria on the level of progress and failures recorded by our leaders after fifty four years of independence.

ELIGIBILITY:
• Language Medium – English

• Participants should be between the ages of 10 and 17

Young female writers form new association
September 16, 2014

A new association called The Nigerian Women Writers’ Forum (NIWOWF) has been formed.
Initiated by the Society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW), the body’s aim is to be “a uniquely ingenious, exploratory and educative platform geared toward inspiring young female writers from all parts of Nigeria in fanning their writing talent, and providing opportunities for exhibiting their works.”
A statement from the National Secretary of NIWOWF, Amarachi Udechukwu further explained that, “This forum is designed to bring young female writers from age 10 to 40 together under a structure of mentoring and support. It is an avenue to encourage an interpersonal educative atmosphere and outstanding creativity in their writing skills and techniques.”
She explained that the association will achieve its aims by organising workshops, symposia, and conferences for both upcoming and aspiring female writers.
NIWOWF, she added, will also institute the Nigerian Women Writers Merit Awards and annual Nigerian Women Writers conventions.
Udechukwu said the group plans to honour Ify Omalicha, Buchi Emecheta, Flora Nwapa, Mabel Segun, Zulu Shofola, Balaraba Ramat, and Professor Biola Odejide for their individual contributions to women development and creative writing in Nigeria.
She also disclosed that a five-person council has been appointed to run the affairs of the association. They are .Shola Phebian Oguntoyinbo (National Coordinator), Amarachi Udechukwu( National Secretary), Rita Okonoboh(National PRO), Hajara Hussaini Ashara(National Financial Secretary) and Ajayi Zenami Temilade (National Treasurer)
There is also the NIWOWF National Teen Writers’ council comprising Adeniyi Adeyinka Florence(Nat. Coordinator), Oyebade Monsurat( Secretary), Raji Rashidat (PRO) and Adedoyin Monsurat (Treasurer).

GIVE US OUR CHIBOK GIRLS
(A Collection of Literary works on the missing girls of Chibok and the views of Nigerian female writers against the demoniac activities of Boko Haram in the country)
Preamble
On the night of 14-15 April 2014, 276 female students were kidnapped from the Government Secondary School in the town of Chibok in Borno State, Nigeria. The kidnappings are claimed by Boko Haram, an Islamic Jihadist and terrorist organization based in Northeast Nigeria.
As of 29 June, more than 200 students were still missing. Boko Haram has said that it wants to sell the girls.
The Nigerian Government has then been heavily criticized for failing to protect the population and end Boko Haram terrorist actions. Aftermath, the student are being forced into Islam and into marriage with members of Boko Haram, with a reputed ‘bride price’ of N2,000 each. Many of the students were taken to the neigbouring countries of Chad and Cameroon with sightings reported of the students crossing borders with the militants and sightings of the students by villagers living in the Sambisa Forest. The forest is considered a refuge for Boko Haram.

PRINCE (PROF.) ALBERT ADEREMI ADEDOYIN (1938 – 2014) Author, Educationist, Politician, Literary Enthusiast, Arts Lover, Photographer, Philosopher, Thinker, Religion Scholar and Business Consultant.
PRINCE (PROF.) ALBERT ADEREMI ADEDOYIN was born on September 13, 1938 into the family of the Late Pa Ogini and Olajutore Adedoyin in Ilesa West Local Government of Osun State, Nigeria. He did his primary and secondary education in Nigeria and partly completed his tertiary education in London. Prof. as fondly called by friends and colleagues was an erudite scholar, philosopher and great thinker. During his life time he helped to finance all the activities of the Society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW) which is now the largest young writers’ body in Nigeria, West Africa and Africa and the Association of Nigerian Christian Authors and Publishers ANCAPS (the first Christian writers’ body in Nigeria). Some of the literary activities he helped financed are: Fagunwa Day Event –From first to third edition (an annual literary event nailed on the Late D.O. Fagunwa which is aim at promoting indigenous literature (in Yoruba) in the Southwestern part of the country. Also the Society’s Ibadan Writers Training Centre (the southwest workshop arm of the Society) which has trained over 1000 writers across the country. Prince Aderemi Adedoyin was also a member of some notable professional bodies within and outside Nigeria. He left this world on the 18th of August, 2014 after a brief illness at the Jubilee Hospital, Samonda, Ibadan. May his gentle soul rest in Perfect Peace. Amen.

PRINCE (PROF.) ALBERT ADEREMI ADEDOYIN (1938 – 2014) Author, Educationist, Politician, Literary Enthusiast, Arts Lover, Photographer, Philosopher, Thinker, Religion Scholar and Business Consultant.
PRINCE (PROF.) ALBERT ADEREMI ADEDOYIN was born on September 13, 1938 into the family of the Late Pa Ogini and Olajutore Adedoyin in Ilesa West Local Government of Osun State, Nigeria. He did his primary and secondary education in Nigeria and partly completed his tertiary education in London. Prof. as fondly called by friends and colleagues was an erudite scholar, philosopher and great thinker. During his life time he helped to finance all the activities of the Society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW) which is now the largest young writers’ body in Nigeria, West Africa and Africa and the Association of Nigerian Christian Authors and Publishers ANCAPS (the first Christian writers’ body in Nigeria). Some of the literary activities he helped financed are: Fagunwa Day Event –From first to third edition (an annual literary event nailed on the Late D.O. Fagunwa which is aim at promoting indigenous literature (in Yoruba) in the Southwestern part of the country. Also the Society’s Ibadan Writers Training Centre (the southwest workshop arm of the Society) which has trained over 1000 writers across the country. Prince Aderemi Adedoyin was also a member of some notable professional bodies within and outside Nigeria. He left this world on the 18th of August, 2014 after a brief illness at the Jubilee Hospital, Samonda, Ibadan. May his gentle soul rest in Perfect Peace. Amen.
CRITERIA FOR SUBMISSIONS
1. The Call is opened for young writers between the ages of 15 and 35.
2. Genre – Poetry – Dirge/Elegy written for any anybody (family, friends, relatives etc.)
3. Minimum of two and maximum of 3 poems

WHY EBOLA?
(A collection of literary works on the current epidemic plaguing Africa and the rest of the world – Dedicated to all Ebola Victims)
Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) or Ebola Hemorrhagic Fever (EHF) is the human disease caused by the Ebola virus. Symptoms start two days to three weeks after contracting the virus, with a fever , sore throat, muscle pain and headaches. Typically nausea, vomiting and diarrhea follow, along with decreased functioning of the liver and kidneys, around this time, some people begin to have bleeding problems. This bleeding may occur within the body or externally. The risk of death among those infected is high.
The major purpose of this anthology is to educate, inform and sensitize people about this deadly disease and its harmful effects. Entries are welcome from Young Nigerian writers between the ages of 10 and 35.
