Being seeing posts about this ban but my parents received their immigrant interview letter few weeks ago and scheduled for interview next month - I am a-bit confused
You're in the student thread.

There's no confusion
Your parents won't be issued their immigrant visa after their interview due to the partial suspension on VISA ISSUANCE.

However they must attend their interview
As soon as the ban is lifted for immigrant visas they will be asked to bring their passports .

They should attempt their interviews as normal.

My parents were married for over 50 years until my dad passed. . But like every other couple, they had their issues. I saw love growing up, and that's how I know this is not it.

I mentioned before that back home I lived separately from him . . we had separate lives then too and I was 100% responsible for the kids. I still am in a way. I've always lived the life of a single woman even though I have been married. Back home he would go MONTHS without contacting me at all, or making any effort to see his kids. I had every opportunity to see other men if that's what I wanted, and he won't even know about it.

Just to be clear, I do not want to rekindle anything. Even if I stayed, it will not be because I'm interested in fixing the marriage, because I am not!

Can't you guys just trust that a woman knows what she wants, and not every woman is willing to mortgage her self respect in the name of marriage?
Live for you,
The reason you kept up this mirage was because you were in Nigeria.
By staying you showed him that it was fine with you.
You were you before, you will be you when you are married.
Unfortunately this pretense is tiring for you.
Separate and ease out the divorce.
You don't have anything to hold on to.
You'll be fine. Chose you, you were and are living separate and it's on obvious you have not had financial fidelity
Your kids know who their Dad is

Hi guys. I'm supposed to travel to Nigeria in June but my passport is expiring August 31st 2026.

So by the time I'll be traveling my passport will have less than 3 months validity. I've tried to renew it but the app for the contactless renewal is not working. The only other option is to travel to Ontario from Alberta which would cost me a whole lot more that than I'm willing to afford right now

I'm using KLM and will be going from Canada to Amsterdam to Nigeria.

Has anyone been in this situation before and do you know if KLM will allow me to board with my passport having about 2 and 1/2 months validity left. I plan to renew it in Nigeria before coming back
No issue with traveling with less than 6months passport validity. You can even travel with expired passport.

So I had my interview today, was unable to reschedule cause my payment was made in 2024 and it has expired.
Literally no one was given a visa, old, young, family, couple...nobody and over 25 people were before me. The only people given while I was there were an Indian couple and I think it's because it's not a Nigerian passport. Their responses for everyone was that we do not qualify and there's a ban on nigerian passports. Even those going for conferences and 1 lady for f1 visa, we were all denied. I also noticed 2 family that were questioned for over 20mins for immigrant visas, they were not given. So my advice is that you wait till the ban is lifted, that was literally what we were all told. Good luck to everyone.
Fortunately for those with immigrant visas because it is the consulate that schedules their interview date, once they are interviewed they won't be interviewed again
So when the ban on immigrant visas is lifted they would just be asked to submit their passports.

The aggression that day at the U.S. embassy was so palpable. They refused or banned everyone there , men, women, adults, and even children. It was ridiculous.

I think a major reason they are banning women who had kids in the U.S. is because a ban on your record means you cannot apply for any type of visa, and you certainly cannot apply for an immigrant visa (a green card or otherwise).

Don’t forget that as the parent of a U.S. citizen, it is only a matter of time …once your child turns 18 and has paid taxes for at least three years (making them 21) , before your child can file for a green card for you.

However, this becomes almost impossible if you have a permanent ban on your record.
Typically a ban shouldn't prevent you getting an immigrant visa. Most bans are timed 3,5,10yrs.
A permanent ban is typically for severe violations like crime, fraud misrepresentation.

Why consulates would give permanent bans to those going for childbirth even if they didn't pay in full is way to aggressive.

Payment plan and evidence of sticking to it should be enough or last last 3 yr nam

Based on this I don't think you filled the form correctly.

The amt it would cost your mum personally for this trip is much more that anything she earns.
You and you husband should be sole sponsors for her trip.
Payslips represent income source so you can scan them to show concurrent history of income.

A cover letter that is concise should explain your circumstances
You mum is coming to visit your baby her grandchild and see you
You earns bia payslips but paid cash
Your ability to cover her costs.. flight, living expenses as you will provide accommodation.

Finally I would say wait awhile before reapply ing.

Thank you Taal, the company has been paying taxes(corporate). On a quarterly basis, 500k is paid into the personal account being for allowances. It's a company in which Iam one of the Directors.
If you get a quarterly allowance of 500k divide that by and add to your month income.
What ever length of statement you include let it show at least one of those quarterly allowance shows.

YES, the 450k includes dependant

If I choose to opt for hotel, I can see hostels on booking.com that less than 1million naira will cover for the entire period

What's your take ?
Thamks
Based on the sole source of income you have shared which is 600k per month then your disposable income is 150k so it would take you 20 months to save 3mill.

You might want to do more than 3 months of statements or indicate other sources of income you can verify.Or other savings you jave

. You can highlight the salary from your business in the statement so it's clear.

Give it a try, at least start filling the form
You can clarify any information in the space

I'm responding to you statement about taxes
Your business is likely to be liable for tax or at at least show you filed returns

If you have employees then you remit PAYE to your state. Unless they are paid less than minimum wage.

Taxes and filing is one way to prove your business is actually real.
It's why it supports your proof of source of income

...and YES the company is registered and active since 2014 and I intend to attach with the application the CAC certificate, Memorandum of Association showing the names of the 3 directors and the Licence from the relevant federal Govt agency (I hope this is enough to tie to Nigeria and my 2 children)
Unfortunately , I do not have history of personal tax payment.
Looking forward to feedbacks.

How long is your trip for?
Calculate what this visit would cost you personally ? Flight, transport, food etc
In your monthly expenses of 450k does this include your dependents

Kemo88:
Good day everyone,

I’m here to share my story. I’m grateful that it ended in praise. Let me start by saying that I’m glad I joined this group almost 10 years ago. Back then, everyone here always advised dealing with immigration honestly, and that really helped in my case.

Secondly, if you have given birth in the U.S. before and you don’t have any urgent business there, try to stay away from the U.S. entirely , embassy or otherwise. Also, if you know you might flout immigration rules or may not be able to properly inform the embassy of your plans, it may be better to consider another country to give birth to your child.

Here’s my story.

Last year, my mum applied for a visa via Dropbox (she has had several U.S. visas before). She was later called for an interview. My mum is very elderly and has started to forget things lately, so I accompanied her to the embassy. I did not apply for a visa; I simply went with her.

When we got there, the consular officer decided to interview me instead. I respectfully declined to be interviewed, but she refused. I considered walking out, but she already had both my passport and my mum’s passport with her. (I had to bring my passport in order to enter the embassy with my mum.) She told me it was too late to decline the interview.

Anyway, I decided to respond to her questions because I didn’t know what she might put on my record if I refused. She asked if I had any of my children in the U.S. I had no reason to lie, so I said yes. She asked when, and I said 2021. She then said that according to the rules, after 2020 you cannot give birth in the U.S. on a visitor (B1/B2) visa.

I explained that I had sent a letter of intent to the embassy at the time and that they informed me it was okay to proceed because I had medical complications. I had previously lost a pregnancy and was on the verge of losing the one I was carrying.

She said I was lying. She then pulled out a white paper (I used to think white paper was a good sign at the U.S. embassy until that day) and issued me a permanent ban from entering the U.S. I was shocked. It felt like a civilian being hit by a military-grade stray bullet. It wasn’t even my interview ,how on earth did I end up with a ban?

I tried to explain that she should allow me to retrieve evidence of the letter of intent I had sent to the embassy, but she refused. So I simply asked, “Is that all?” and walked away. The entire situation felt very strange.

When I got home, I decided to get a lawyer. I explained everything, and we began the process. We gathered all the documents and even swore an affidavit. The lawyer sent the documents to the embassy via mail and email. We CC’d every U.S. embassy email address in Nigeria and even some outside Nigeria.

They didn’t respond for almost two months. We sent a reminder still no response. So I started sending reminders every other week. At that point, the worst had already happened, so I felt I had nothing to lose.

About three months later, we finally received a response saying they couldn’t do anything because the consular officer had added a “no waiver” clause to my ban. I still didn’t give up.

I composed another email explaining everything that happened that day, attached all the documents from my lawyer again, and sent it.

A month later, they responded saying I should apply for a visa, pay the fee, schedule an appointment, and come to the embassy. They said whichever consular officer I met would determine whether I could receive a waiver.

I wasn’t sure I wanted to go through that process, especially given the uncertainty of the outcome in this era we are in. I had already lost hope, so I stopped emailing them.

About five months later, while I was praying, I felt strongly that I should send another email. In that email, I asked them to please investigate the matter again. I explained once more that I had informed the embassy of my intention to give birth in the U.S. because of my medical complications.

I also told them I had a clean immigration record. I had previously held over 10 U.S. visas. I had studied in the U.S., and I even once had a work permit that I never used because I wanted to return to my own country. I also mentioned that I had several UK and Canadian visas, as well as visas from other countries.

I explained how the ban had affected my career because many of my professional trainings require international travel, and I would have to declare the ban when applying for visas. I told them that my goal was not necessarily to obtain a U.S. visa , i simply wanted the ban removed so I could move forward with my life and career.

A few days later, I received an email saying that the ban had been removed from my record. They explained that the reason they reversed the decision was because they found evidence that I had indeed sent a letter of intent to the embassy. However, the embassy had provided me with incorrect information at the time. They said I should have been told that giving birth in the U.S. on a B1/B2 visa was not permitted. Because of this, they decided to remove the ban.

I was completely shocked.

I’m grateful that I listened to the people on this platform years ago who insisted that I send a letter of intent to the embassy. That single step ended up saving my case.

I don’t know how this story might help someone else, but this was my experience.
Wow, such great news
It hurts when you tell the truth and someone insists it's a lie.
This brings back memories for me, took 4yrs.

Good evening great Nairalanders,
I am considering applying for U.K tourist visa come June ,2026. I am a Director)Share holder in a limited liability conpany which has been operating since year 2014. A friend will be sending me the invitation letter , and I will be supporting my application with 3 months statement off accounts with a balance of 6million naira. My monthly earning is about 600k. I'm single but has 2 kids from different women.
Please note I had 2 previous student visa refusals in 2008 and 2009 respectively which means my last application at the UK embassy was 17 years ago.
Am I good to go , from the above explanation of my circumstance?.
Thank you
Do you pay yourself a salary from your business?
Do you have a separate account from your business
Do you have travel history
Closing balance isn't the issue..it's what your monthly expenses are compared to what you will spend on your trip
Invitation letter is neither here or there, is your friend responsible for your accommodation, would he be covering your food expenses
Is your company registered? Do you have history of tax payments
What would tie you to Nigeria?

Labour have just passed through emergency legislation that prioritises UK medical graduates and doctors with "significant" NHS experience for govt funded NHS foundation and specialty training posts (which are necessary to become a fully qualified doctor). The bill aims to reduce competition from international applicants e.g. via Plab 1 and 2, and "secure training places for domestic talent".

The government states that in 2025, 15,723 UK-trained doctors and 25,257 overseas-trained doctors competed for 12,833 round 1 and 2 training posts. For 2026 recruitment this number currently stands at over 47,000 applicants.
