I understand. The point of the whole thing was to debunk the population opinion that things are cheaper in Nigeria than US. Well, that's a big lie With relative to earning powers of citizens of both countries..

You people are so used to living in America that y'all are taking many living privileges for granted. Do you know how much you have to pay to get at least 20hrs of electricity everyday in Nigeria? AKA, band A. We were paying 50k at a time for it and it's not even constant. That's many people's salary or monthly income in Nigeria. How can you use your whole or half salary to pay for light? That money is not even enough for good food...

Bro, trust me I know life is hard everywhere but there's level to hardship and poverty. Hardship by American standard is not the same as Nigerian's
I've not been int he US long o barely 3yrs and I travel home every yr. I say it regularly cost of living is crazy that I don't have words for it.

If you notice I didn't compare both countries it's futile because indices are not the same, earning power different, social welfare differences regional differences.

I wouldn't even compare states in the US because indices are different. Cost of utilities is not the same. We don't pay for water in NYC so no water bill, other states have water bills. I pay Fed State and City taxes. Others don't, Electric bill in NYC summer , southern states dey enjoy

So we agree Hardship is not the same.
To focus it's better to face where you are per time.

In other news biko you and staceyadams when are we going to wash your first salaries sorry paycheck

You are talking bullshit man. I just got here sir and I have other plans. I don't plan on remaining a minimum wage earner for ever, that's if $17/hr is even considered minimum wage.. I took up the job just so I don't stay idle before I move on to other things. And FYI there are many low income earners here that don't rely on government support for anything as long as they can pay their rents and eat well. Not everyone is on the quest for becoming rich in life. They don't work hard as much as we do because they don't have poverty in their family they need to eradicate..

That's not even the point by the way. The point is, the kind of life I can get here even as a low earner as compared to its Nigerian equivalent is a raise in my standard of living.
Congrats on starting work.
As long as your expenses are low and you are saving your minimum wage is no big deal. Plenty 100k earners are gbese prommax champions.
Goal is to gain work culture experience .

To be honest till you are fully responsible for all your bills you won't understand America yet

Its a Capitalist economy as well so losing jobs can literally happen in a blink. Seen it happen so many times.

Food being cheap is relative to your state. Also relative to your health. Many american foods are terrible for your health so when you see ppl buying more expensive food from bougie stores you no go understand why. 1 spend 300-400 on food for 1person and I don't eat out. 1st yr here showed me sege. Food is better in south sha so una dey enjoy.

Just avoid credit, pay off car notes before time sef cos that interest for a necessity that depreciated is not worth it.

Then forget what ppl drive o, na mirage.
The gbese some have ehn is beyond words.

Congrats on getting employed. It gives you your independence.

Good you see the error in installments payment.
Credit in the US is trapdoor unfortunately.
You get used to using CC and paying minimum balance and the cycle of financial poverty starts cos you look rich but you're really poor.

Save if you're still living with ppl and work on putting 6months of savings aside in case of job losses

The downside of capitalism is that it favors the employer not the employee. This also means you can lose your job ..with now warning. Many only get 2 weeks notice and bam.
Thats hard since rent and mortgage s paid monthly.
A friend who moved to Texas with family for work, was there for a 1 yr and bam company restructures he lost his job just after he bought a house. Barely got 1month notice.
He'd been in the US for about 4yrs by then
FamilyRe: My Nigerian Father Admitted He Has A Secret 9-Year-Old Son by Taal17: 4:47pm On Dec 31, 2025
Oyinbogyal:
I’m mixed and living abroad. My mother is European and my father is Nigerian. My parents separated over 10 years ago, but they never officially divorced — they were legally separated.

The separation happened because my father did something very serious to my mother. In Europe, you cannot be removed from the family home simply because of marital problems. A married person is only forced out by the courts if something very severe happens. That is all I can say for privacy reasons, but it’s important context.

About a year after they separated, my father started begging my mother to take him back. This wasn’t occasional — it went on for years. At the same time, he was involved with a Nigerian woman from his own tribe. Behind that Nigerian woman’s back, he was still pressuring my mother to reconcile. My mum refused, but he never stopped trying.

Fast-forward to December 2025. Even this year, my father again went to my mother and asked her to get back together with him.

Then on Christmas Day, he finally admitted — not to me, not to my mother, not to all of us directly — but to my youngest sister, that he has a 9-year-old son he has been hiding from everyone. He then made my sister pass the message on to the rest of us. He could not say it to our faces himself.

What shocked me most is that this child was born about a two years after my parents separated — meaning that all the years my father was begging my mother to reconcile, he already knew he had a child elsewhere. He deliberately never told her… bear in mind this child lives in the same country as us in Europe but he is just been hidden.

When I called him to confront him, he confirmed everything. He also said something that disturbed me deeply: that he feels no real affection for the child and that the boy will never replace his “real family,” meaning us. Hearing a man speak that way about his own biological child was horrifying.

This is a fully Nigerian boy, same tribe as my father. Knowing my father’s own childhood — where he suffered badly under a cruel stepmother — I would have thought he might see himself in that child. But instead, he has completely compartmentalised him.

Meanwhile, the child’s mother still wants to marry my father. From what I can see, he continues to keep her hopeful without fully committing, while still fantasising about getting back with his legal “European wife” who doesn’t want him. He seems to keep multiple realities open at once.

What made everything click for my mother — and for me — is this:
If my mother had agreed to reconcile, my father could have moved back into the house legally as her husband. Because he would not repeat physical violence, she would have had no immediate way to remove him again via legal system/court. Only after securing his place back in the home could he then reveal that he had a child all along — effectively trapping her in a marriage built on deception.

That realisation is terrifying.

I also feel deep cultural dissonance. I told my father plainly: my mother is European. This kind of secrecy is not culturally acceptable where we live. It’s not “family affairs” or something to be normalised. Trust matters differently. Consent matters differently. So he cannot assume my mother will want him after hearing the news, she is not like the Nigerian ex you had a child with - in Nigeria it is normal for a woman to beg or wait for a man to marry you, in Europe it is shameful so he needs to stop thinking my mom will accept this.

This entire situation has destroyed my respect for him. I don’t feel anger as much as disgust and shame. I’m embarrassed to even explain this to my European friends. I feel like I’ve lost faith not just in him, but in my ability to trust what I thought were shared values.

I’m now engaged to marry a loving European man, and if I’m honest, this experience has made me afraid. Afraid of repeating cycles if I marry a Nigerian man. Afraid of normalising things I don’t believe in. I don’t reject my Nigerian heritage — I love the food, the music, the culture — but when it comes to marriage, honesty, and responsibility, I feel completely disconnected from what I’ve seen modeled.

Right now, I don’t even want to be around my father. I feel like something fundamental has collapsed, and I don’t know how to rebuild respect where trust no longer exists.

I’m sharing this here because I genuinely don’t know how to process it alone, and I want perspectives — especially from people who understand Nigerian family dynamics — without judgement.
Your feelings are valid so take them on and process them.
But realize that your Dad's choices were his to make. His marriage and infidelity were to your mum not you.
For your own good separate these issues from who you are and how you choose to live your life. The failure of your parents marriage is not yours to carry.

Let go and forgive him for Yourself so you can freely start a new family of your own on mutual core values for the kind of marriage you want and need

Question
If people do not ask you for help, would you typically be the person to offer help even if ppl do not ask

So you could use the Humanitarian Reinstatement to apply for a waiver. Note is is a discretionary benefit, so you need to prove this well. I'd suggest contacting a good immigration lawyer who has proof of successful waivers that were approved. Especially since you have already informed nvc.

Your brother would still need to meet the I 864 form conditions to be your sponsor.

You also need death certificate.

By the way are you DQ yet and just waiting for interview?
At least with the ban you have time to get this approved whilst your PD is not current

I paid for mine in August and booked a date for biometrics next month.
At the time I went through the process on the NIS website, I wasn't asked for anything from state of origin/LGA. The only two pieces of documentary evidence requested were a copy of my birth certificate and a copy of my previous passport. So something must have changed between then and now if they're now asking for LGA certificates as well.

I didn't do the whole NPC thingy for attestations of birth pre-1992, and just uploaded a copy of the old faded handwritten Lagos State birth certificate. Not sure whether this is acceptable or not, but am going to the HC in January, so we'll see.
State of Origin has been a requirement for a while. I did mine in July this yr.
So unless the requirements changed I'm not sure.

I'd advice you get NPC attestation of birth. It can be processed online too. You'd might need it for the future.especially because your birth registration is faded. I had to do it for us migration so I already had it.

I will provide them in my next application. But my fear is that they may now focus on the funding and sponsorship, cos they just mentioned them without further details.

For the certificate, below is what I provided, I didn't think nursing certificate would be important since NMC UK registration details and PRN was provided. (You can't register with NMC UK without providing your nursing certificate and license)
You should have put the eligibility for for NIMC registration in the space for more information. That way you could have addressed your certification and work experience.
Not every case worker knows your industry.

I didn't see where they mentioned your funding as the reason for the denial.

The only thing I would possibly question is why you are staying for one month because of an exam, does the exam last for weeks?

https://passport.immigration.gov.ng/

Click on applying outside Nigeria when the dialog box opens.

You have to start the application on the website first, then when you get to a point it will ask you if you want to do self biometric, if yes then you can continue on the app to take your biometrics then continue with payment on the site.
Last I knew the app doesn't do the entire process end to end yet.

Good morning all and compliments of the season.

Please, is there anybody who has recently renewed their passport WITHOUT uploading/submitting a local government certificate? This is one of the documents that is required to be uploaded while filling the application form.

Does your state have its own site for LGA certificate? It might also be because it's end of the yr so maybe give till next year and try online again.
If you have some one who can physically go to you LGA office in anambra , they only need your passport photograph and your names as written on your passport plus details of your LGA or village for state of origin.

Or if you have someone in Lagos you can check for you State liaison office in Lagos and send someone as well
You can either

Now that the USembassy has confirmed the travel ban on both the immigrant and non immigrant categories,
What now becomes the fate of those already scheduled interviews in January and February of 2026 under the immigrant visa category?.
Do you suggested they reschedule or still go ahead with the interview?.
If they do go ahead, what are the likely outcome?.
Please i have a family in this situation and they are very worried and confused about the next step to take.
They already scheduled for medical appointment.

Please advise is urgently needed.
Reach out via rhe email used to communicate with you and ask if their interview date will be rescheduled
They can consider moving their medical appointment further.

Unless their interview date is moved to before Jan 1st 2026, they need to wait till after the ban is lifted then the consulate can not issue visas from Jan 1 2026.
If you do ho ahead with interview they will not issue the visa but consider you ineligible which can change to issued once the ban is lifted. That might not be till June 2026 or less.

Pls do I need to state the reasons? If yes,pls which reasons shld I state.

(2)Canada,May 2018.
(3)France tourist visa,Sept 2025.Reason:
(i) The visa officer said the purpose of my visit is not clear.
(ii) He is not sure I'll leave the Schengen area when my visa expires .Shld I write all these?

Pls should I start from the recent to old or old t recent?
Secondly, shld I state the type of visa in all as I did in France?
Since the sch is already aware and interviewed me rigorously B4 issuing CAS,will declaring these refusals to ukvi affect my application?
Pls any better and convincing way to put the reasons

Am out of cash somehow, but shld I borrow and use the priority service(extra €500) as sch resumes 15th of Jan 2026? Won't the Ukvi see it as desperation to travel?
