Greetings everyone

Please I need help right now probably someone might have encountered this before.

I paid my visa fee (MRV )at first bank since last week Thursday and ever since my payment hasn't been validated to enable me book my appointment of which supposed to have automatically been validated. If I try including my amentum number to validate my payment it keeps saying that reference doesn't exist. I sent a ticket to support through my AVITS portal and they said that my details must all match for my payment to be validated. Please has anyone encountered this before?
Maybe check the details you used for payment and what you have in AVITS, see if it matches
You might find an error

This isn't law yet, it's still at proposal stage.

At the time the FB poster made the comment, asylum seekers had a 5 year path to ILR and a lot more flexibility and "perks" than other migrants e.g no sponsorship requirements, no conditions on family reunification, access to benefits etc.

It was also vastly cheaper as no visa or IHS fees, legal fees usually covered by legal aid...so it was viewed by many as a "golden visa".
Thanks for clarifying.the timeline.

Even with the 5yr ILR pathway, there's still the length of time for your case to approved right
Then in the UK asylees can't work till their case is approved right?
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by Taal17:
Trey195:
Please, I need clarity.

A friend of mine applied for a B1/B2 visa, but was denied earlier this year. They scheduled another B1/B2 visa interview appointment, slated for the 2nd quarter of 2026, on an official work purpose.

They are also currently awaiting their admission for a master's program for which they are expecting full or almost full funding for Fall 2026.

Based on that, the timeline for the official assignment in the US and the school resumption in Aug 2026 will be within the 3-month visa validity.

If they do get approved for the B1/B2 visa, how do they go about the F1 visa, as the month difference is just 3 months for the school resumption without raising a red flag?

Can they go through the adjustment of status from B1/B2 to F1 while on that official assignment in the US? Will there be enough time to even do this and still be able to resume school on time?

Thank you as you respond to these questions.
If they are going to school then the business meeting is of not relevance.
Seems they are trying not to lose both opportunities.

To be honest, your friend or you don't have admission nor funding as at today so trying to game next year today is fruitless.

Stop.

When or if you get admission and student funding and you get an date for F1 visa appointment then you have something to discuss.

Adjustment of statement of status on visiting visa is a process, it can take weeks and months.
So you can not come in Aug for business conference then suddenly expect you can adjust for the admission in university in September.

We all know the truth but we always want to be politically correct or justify bad stuff to prove points forgetting that large scale of anyhowness by Nigerians sometimes. Lots of people outsourced school stuff, some did not even come to class etc

I mean, look at the nonsense in the screenshot shared. We can start from unnecessary cho cho cho and its why the ones in Canada were vehemently against that Doc on Twitter some days ago.

grin
There were posts and rants on NL here about ppl who did assignments , thesis for students in UK. One outsourcer was even complaining that his first client wanted a cut from the new recruit she brought for him.

It was obvious, when I saw posts here about students doing more than 40hrs I knew it wasn't possible if they actually did their study themselves.

Please someone should kindly shed light on this. I'm doing WES course by course evaluation for USA admission which is $233. I have already budgeted for it only for me to start the process and they say I will be charged $34 extra for each school they are sending the transcript too.

Please is this how it really is? I thought everything is digital and already included in the $233. Please did anyone experience this too and had to pay extra for each school they applied to?
You might want to start applying for courses and determine which schools you want that require a WES evaluation. That way you decide how you will spend in terms of schools that need WES and are worth your time.

Anyone can pay your Sevis fee, so your sponsor can do that.
Let whoever pays use the payment method Sevis permits

I guess it's not that straightforward. He's afghan likely worked for the US as a mercenary so when Taliban took over he was able to get refuge.

Good day everyone, I am an f3 applicant

I really appreciate everyone on here. Please can I use my petitioner’s American passport as a proof of citizenship? And do I have to show proof of my savings to be able to live comfortably in the USA without my joint sponsor or needing food stamps etc
Question who is asking for this proof of citizenship?
Nvc wouldn't ask for proof of citizenship for petitioner. For your application to get this far it has been proven.

Your second question, your personal savings is not relevant.

I'm sure your joint sponsor already provided tax returns or w2 .it's the petitioner or joint sponsors proof of income that's relevant

Trump is about to permanently pause migration from third world countries. Will this affect Nigeriav? And will it affect ongoing petitions
Nothing to do with Nigeria, likely the same list of countries from a previous act.

The new announcement seems to be backlash from an afghan migrant who shot 2 national guards last week. Unfortunately 1 of them has passed away.

Okay., I checked it as well. Though the stepparent must be married to the biological parent before children turn 18 and file before they are 21

Hopefully the OP and kids are in the US, else the timeline in Nigeria is still possible 1-3yrs even for IR

Hello House,

i would like to hear from anyone that recently got his/her children I130 petition approved. My wife filed for us (i.e myself and my children, i.e her step-children). She is a Citizen, she filed for us all in November, 2024 (Precisely a year ago) i got my Green Card since june but has not had anything about the children petition since then. Input from someone that recently got his or her children GC approved would be appreciated
Are you and the children in Nigeria or in the US?.because your approval timeline is pretty fast. Besides you need petition is approved first before green card is given.
Just to ask are you sure a step mother can file an i130 for stepchildren , I ask because based on your post your children petition is yet to be approved.

If you are in the US then this thread is mainly for those in doing consulate processing outside the US

Best to put in your app and then wait it out.

Processing time is now 19 months on average + extra wait time for embassy dates could put everything at 4 - 5 years, if not more owing to the H1B issues. Means you can get your ILR and all here during that time and port when the pp comes in

Who knows what might happen in the UK between now and then?
Uk embassy dates are that far long? Can't be.
I understand the petition approval timeline is over a year but not interview date for UK embassy.

Even Lagos is about 3yrs from petition to interview, the UK will now be 4-5yrs...no na.

Is there a way to convert from a temporary work visa to a permenant one?
Yes, however what you are asking for is pathway to permanent residency.in the US
That you would have to research yourself or pay for those who would do that for you. You can check my signature.

Besides this you can also look at Evisas, known as Employment based visas which give permanent residency on approval and can be processed whilst you are in Nigeria.
You can check which you are eligible for . There's a thread on nairaland for that. Please read from the beginning and study.
Also check Dr Olu asekun , he has podcasts on employment based visas EB1,EB2 etc

Please can you explain what you meant by this

"Plus getting a job is not equal to getting to stay back."
Getting a job is not equal to residency. They are not the same.

OPT , H1B are all temporary work visas, same with U, R, L visas. Even F1 student visas that permit you to work with restrictions is still temporary, once you are no longer studying you can not work with that status.

Which side of Iyana Oworo

You need to get to a bus that can drop you at 7up Tollgate.
Then you can cross the pedestrian bridge to the Ikeja side of the expressway. From there Daystar is a short walk. Daystar is on Ikosi road right next to gtbank

Good day everybody,
With this policy changes and all, I've been very restless on what happens when one finishing schooling in the US. What happens.
Are there ways one can remain in the country?
I currently work in an engineering firm here in Nigeria but I don't feel fulfilled. I want to go for my masters but the fear of the unknown. What if I quit my job here, finish schooling in the US. What next. Can I get a job to stay back?

Please someone should help me clear my doubts
Nothing is guaranteed, worst case scenario you calculate those risks and determine what you can afford to lose .

Even in Nigeria getting a job is not guaranteed.

I honestly don't think you have really really asked yourself why you're worried.
You want to immigrate through student route...you have lot of steps to pass through before you even start considering getting a job. Plus getting a job is not equal to getting to stay back.
Relax

Just don't burn all your bridges back in Nigeria and set a plan B or C..

Not everyone has the time to do it in person
Then make the time. if online doesnt work no one here works with NPC to troubleshoot why their site does not work even though you input the correct details.

You have the option of going inperson if online doesnt work for you
You will still do the passport process in person

Pls don't scare the OP or anyone that falls ill while travelling with a purported high bill, eventhough the fellow is Just on a visit, no bill will be incurred, that ist the essence of a travel insurrance which is a basic requirement for getting a Visa.

A basic travel insurrance covers all cost of treatment in case of illness.
Many many and many dont pay for travel insurance.

OP,
go to hospital emergency room and say you think you have a tropical disease Malaria, they will sort you out. Fee or no fee your health and your life is most important.

Has anyone had issues with the NC attestation portal? I tried doing it for my sister; her NIN was inputted, and it brought out all her details. The only thing we did was answer the required question. We double-checked details more than twice. It was submitted. Now after approval, we are seeing a difference in the middle name.

How is this even possible? After inputting her NIN, it automatically displayed her name and phone number.

Now here, the middle name and phone number are different from what was submitted. Please, how do I go about this?
You can also do this in person at any physical NPC office. Each state has one

I do follow up every year . Do petition is still active. Just didn’t submit documents and continue processing.
Okay so let me say this.
You have two options that I can see.

1. Continue with NVC and submit documents so her case can be documentarily qualified. You can check the the ne new Interview scheduling tool on DOS site i.e trave state.gov site.
You can indicate the consulate then the visa category.to say where they are are for scheduling interviews that are documented complete aka DQ.
Since your mum is IR you don't need the visa bulletin.

2. Your dad can file for her , time line might be the same as yours above

Bonus tip.
Either you or Dad can do 1 or 2 above but do Adjustment of status in the US.
Get your mum in the US on a visit visa and do the filing in the US.
Just tell mommy she could come and visit that's all.

Processing in the US could be done in about 6months.. Adjustment of status for IR is very plausible when done inside the US.

PS you must be an oldie, yes there was an older thread from immigrant visas reference to it is still on Page 1.
What was your username, I was on NL during that time especially when Visa officers were fully here with their own QnA threads. Those were the days
