Just saw this: The Federal Government has said it is ready to grant approval to indigenous shipping firms to export crude oil and stem the nation’s huge capital flight.
This is coming 17 years after the liquidation of the Nigerian National Shipping Line, which paved the way for only foreign marine tankers to move the nation’s crude oil.
Nigeria is said to have lost over $100bn in five decades by allowing its crude oil to be carried exclusively by foreign owned tankers.
The Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, and the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Maritime Sevices, Mr. Olugbenga Oyewole, spoke about the planned approval for local shipping firms to move crude oil on Friday at the unveiling of two high-capacity oil vessels in Warri, Delta State.
An indigenous firm, Ocean Marine Tankers, which owns the two vessels, has also applied to the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency for a national carrier status, according to the top government officials.
But before the approval, which NIMASA promised to facilitate in a few weeks, the vessels would supply crude oil to the Warri and Kaduna refineries, they said.
Alison-Madueke said the government was committed to the full implementation of the Cabotage Law and the Nigerian Content Law, which provide that 50 per cent of government’s cargoes should be carried by Nigerian vessels.
The minister, who spoke through the Group Executive Director, Refineries and Petrochemicals, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Mr. Anthony Ogbuigwe, also said the menace of oil theft and pipeline vandalism had compelled the government to use ships to transport crude oil.
She urged all oil communities to stand up against the crimes and expose their perpetrators.
Oyewole described the coming of the two vessels as a new dawn in the nation’s maritime industry.
“Critics have said, ‘If Nigerians have what it takes to carry the Nigerian cargo, they should show it.’ They have thought it impossible, but here we are, MT Abiola and MT Igbinosa have landed. They are 45,000-metric tonne vessels to carry the Nigerian cargoes,” he said. http://www.punchng.com/business/business-economy/fg-set-to-revive-national-shipping-carriers/ |

tatosh: This desperate FG, trying to take credit for every little thing. The post clearly says its a private investment by a local company, what does Jonathan have to do with this? The truth is the FG has achieved very little thats why they now want to take credit for hardworking Nigerians' hustle Come on SHUT UP ya mouth tha, my frnd. Something has not happened in 17 yrs, and all of a 'sudden' it does. Even if you have never heard of the Local Content Bill, which was Signed and is been Implemented by this Admin, at least you have Common Sense. Right?? |

Great........ I hear that the local participation is now more than 30% from about 10% in 2010 when the Local Content Act was passed
Nigerians should control the lifting of its Oil, instead of its total Control by Foreigners.

what is Wike's footprint on education?
Has he achieved anything other than destablizing River State? The guy is actually arguably the Most EFFECTIVE Minister of State for Education we have had in a very long time, regardless of his politics. He has directly supervised the construction of about 150 Almajiri Model Boarding/Day Schools, 15 Model Girls Schools, 35 so far Libraries and Laboratories in Federal Unity Schools, Training of Teachers and perhaps more importantly, the effective supervision of the UBEC Fund the main reason why Primary/Secondary Infrastructure in many States are improving significantly, etc. All these in about 2 years, in NIGERIA!! One of the reasons why 'UN-NIGERIA' developments were possible was that the Minister holds monthly meetings with the Contractors, monitoring them. He is doing well. His politics does not concern me |

From the article, Commercial service has not started yet. The train in question is actually carrying heavy material to fully restore the Entire Eastern Line - PH-Enugu-Makurdi-Jos-Maiduguri, an even longer line compared to the already functional Lagos-Kano Rail Line.
But 2 things are Clear:
-- The terribly dilapidated structures- Bridges, Culverts, Washouts, Tracks, etc- which had stopped trains from moving on the Eastern Line for about 15 years, have been FIXED now as shown in the article;
-- The promise by the NRC that the Eastern Line would be restored before end of 2013 (at least for some of its sections) may be kept afterall. |

The management of the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) Eastern District has commenced full rail services within the precincts after a protracted revitalisation programme by the Federal Government to return the rail system of transport in the country to its glorious days.
NRC’s Eastern District Manager, Mr. Felix Njoku said in a press release issued in Enugu that, "in a bid to revitalise the rail sector in Nigeria, Federal Government awarded contracts for the rehabilitation work of the western and eastern railway lines.
“Most of the track materials required for the eastern line rehabilitation have been imported and delivered to Port Harcourt station. To enhance speed of rehabilitation work, the contractor (ESER West Africa) has successfully connected all the missing sections of the lines between Port Harcourt and Enugu."
Njoku said NRC had deployed one locomotive and several open flat wagons from Enugu to Port Harcourt which confirmed that the major challenges faced on the rehabilitation project had been surmounted.
He said the Nyaba Bridge in Enugu, the reconstruction of the heavy washout at Eziama in Aba and the re-construction of Bridge 3 in Port Harcourt were all completed.
The Eastern District Manager further disclosed that movement of the imported track materials by rail from Port Harcourt to various locations along the eastern railway corridor where they are needed for rehabilitation work has commenced adding that items to be lifted in the operations include; 13,5000 pieces of 12 meter long UIC 50 Rails, 165,000 pieces of steel sleepers, associated fish plates, pandrol clips, bolts and knots.
Managing Director, NRC, Engr. Adeseyi Sijuwade disclosed that the, "delivery of 16,795 tons of railway track materials will result in the removal of 560 Trailer trips from the road, thereby reducing the potential of road accidents and damage to the roads." http://www.worldstagegroup.com/worldstagenew/index.php?active=news&newscid=10220&catid=2 |

Two surveillance Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) unveiled by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) in Kaduna have completed their maiden test flight yesterday.
The vehicles are to tackle insecurity through enhanced air surveillance. The test flight took place under the close scrutiny of the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Alex Sabundu Badeh at the Nigerian Air Force Base, Kaduna. Speaking after the flights of the UAVs and another unmanned jet, the Air chief said the UAVs are invented by the air force while 12 officers are undergoing training on how to operate and assemble the vehicles. He said to have train the 12 officers outside the country, it would have cost the air force $2million to $3million, but are training them in-country and try to develop their capabilities. According to him, “Foreign firms are asking for millions of dollars to sell these UAVs. We can’t afford that. We have other UAVs” stressing that the air force will develop lighter UAVs. According to him, by October 2013, the NAF is going to unveil some surprising innovations and by January 2014 when the “NAF will celebrate its centennial, there will be a lot to show Nigerians.” The twelve officers undergoing the UAV training fall within the ranks of Wing Commander and Flying Officer. http://dailytrust.info/index.php/news/3863-insecurity-naf-completes-two-unmanned-test-flights |
Politics › Re: CLO Press Release On The Anti-poor Policies Of Governor Fashola Of Lagos State by taharqa2: 6:48pm On Aug 09, 2013 |
Lanquart: On the issue on the table, CLO notes with utter dismay that the action of Lagos state government in deporting Nigerian citizens from Lagos state to Onitsha and elsewhere in the country where they were allegedly “dumped” like refuse is grossly reprehensible and condemnable. The action is not only a total breach of the 1999 Federal Constitution, the African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights and the United Nations Declaration on Human Rights, among others but a huge infringement on the human rights of the victims. It is criminal and dehumanising. Section 41 (1) of the 1999 Constitution grants Nigerian citizens the right to free movement without molestation in the land. It is also important to note that Lagos, apart from being a state, wears another identity status of a former Federal Capital Territory. And so, every Nigerian has a stake in Lagos state just like Abuja.
However, CLO is not, at all, shocked at what Fashola government did with respect to this deportation matter because his government is a government that has no human face but can be best described as an anti-poor government and a government that is dictatorial, lawless and absolutely inhuman.
When people who stay outside Lagos sing praises for his regime, residents of Lagos state who are the victims and who wear the shoes and know where they pinch them, do know that his government is despotic and lacks conscience. As at today, we cannot remember any segment of the Lagos population that is not lamenting the atrocities of the Fashola regime against its members.
At the last count, the following groups of Lagosians have protested against Fashola’s inhumanities, war against the armless citizens and wickedness. They include but not limited to the workers, medical doctors, students, okada riders, taxi drivers, traders, hawkers, bus drivers, keke riders and human rights activists. How many poor people’s children can study at the Lagos state University today? Can taxi drivers buy new cars from other sources other than government’s and get them registered as cabs in Lagos state? Do medical doctors know the types of drugs that are supplied in public hospitals in the state ? The so-called Fashola buses in Lagos state now park human beings like Julius berger trucks worse than the Oshodi-Osho buses. Like I said those 2 times I briefly commented on this 'Deportation' buhaha: The Lagos State's forced 'deportation' and dumping of some Citizens on d Onitsha Headbridge isn't reali due to Ethnic-propelled Hate towards Igbos per se, but to an almost Genuine DISREGARD (even Disdain) of POOR People by those in d present Lagos State Govt. Her History screams it....and that is what is been reinterated by an organisation like CLO here |

Tolexander: This confluence of current gurl of mine and i was a miracle by mistake and coincidence!
I entered into a toilet in school which the first letter(s) fem/m had been rubbed off leaving the last 3 letters, ale and i saw a pretty young lady trying to draw up her skirt after pissing, on sighting a guy entering, she felt shocked and wanted to hastily zip up the skirt and the zip got detached from the skirt making the skirt to draw down below her kneels . When i unconsciously saw what happened, i couldn't control the laugh impulse from my cerebellum and medula. After leaving the toilet, i saw her going through my route to the hostel and told her i was very sorry for the scene created in the toilet. She asked me why i had to enter into a female toilet, a female toilet! I retorted. Told her i never knew it is for the female that the tag was confusing. We exchanged pleasantries, and phone numbers when we were about to depart. Later we started exchanging calls and messages.
Here we are presenting to you the boyfriend of the lady met in the toilet.
The previous gf of mine was a little younger than me, close to a year. Her mum and mine used to call us husband and wife when we were babies cos we are family friends.
The husband and wife our mums called us then translated into boyfriend and girlfriend cos the foundation of the 'parol' had been laid by them, all we needed was to build a structure on the foundation which we did. dolphinife: I want to rejoice and congratulate my brothers across the Niger for this initiative which will definitely ease the burden of travelling all the way from east to Lagos or Abuja.
Nevertheless, Ethiopian airline intervention in Enugu airport is much more strategic with no politics attached. Nothing concerns GEJ with any airline flying to and fro cos the airlines would be the one to know if the route is profitable to them or not.
By congratulating our brothers across the Niger, this shouldn't be an avenue to start abusing and cursing the southwest. I have seen some of us have started using derogatory words and comments on the southwest. Like I said before, this feat is more economical than political as a lot have started hailing GEJ as if he brought or compel ethiopian to fly direct to Enugu * smh*..... |
