wirinet: Devaluation has not started yet, by the time the new realities hit Nigeria, we would be exchanging $1 for N500. The naira is being kept high by CBN pumping excess dollars into the market, sanusi could do that because of available slush of dollars from high oil receipts with dollars selling above $100. But with the production of shale gas, the US is set to compete with OPEC in oil production. So OPEC would lose control of oul prices and oil prices would come spiraling down. That would affect the availability of dollars to the CBN, leading to supply shortage.


Anybody who do not want to die of hunger better keep his or her PHD, MSC or BSc inside his wardrobe and till the land. Because agriculture and agro-allied business will be the only to survive in the very near future.

The sad aspect is that the government seems oblivious of the unfolding economic realiies and are not investing massively in agriculture.

All Ebonyi needs is a dynamic youthful Governor (with a vision) to build on what Governor Elechi has put in place. I started cutting him some slack when i realised he has managed to place Ebonyi at the top in the IGR stakes in the South East.....even beating the obvious two you would expect to outperform their peers.

Goddex: Ebonyi is ignorantly underrated even here on nairaland. The capital Abakaliki is a lot better than most state capitals I have been to. Their expansive rice mill complex is a wonder to behold. The quality of private buildings dotting the city is another site attraction. They have good dual carriageways criss-crossing the entire city. The last time I drove past there, the Federal Government was completing dualisation of the Spera-in-due heading Ezamgbo and also the Spera-in-due heading Ogoja axis.

Their big setback are the Ezza and Izzi. Apart from their timid lifestyle the people are so engrossed in the traditional farming practices and love war like the way a Calabar man like dog meat.

His post is explaining how inept OBJ's administration was, it did not take Obj 8 years to privatize the ports, it was completed in few months, no longer than 18months. If Obj used same swift action - privatization or govt, this project would have been completed in record time even before Yaradua. The point here is GEJ started the rehabilitation agenda, actualized it and putting it to work.

It about two years for GEJ to rehabilitate our rail system and putting it back to service (though it needs newer rolling stock), if OBJ was serious about it, 8 years is more than ENOUGH to build (not rehabilitate) hundreds of miles of rail. Like someone suggested, the Railway Act is what's holding up Nigeria and needs to be amended or even repealed, as soon as Railway is privatized, foreign and domestic investment will follow suit.

corporation's Capacity Enhancement Programme would be the haulage of bran and wheat flour for Dufil Prima foods (Indomie).

It said that 436 tonnes of the product were expected to be moved weekly from Apapa to Kaduna, adding that the
service would commence before the end of July.

"Furthermore the corporation will in August commence the haulage of container freight from APM terminal in Apapa Port to Inland Container Nigeria Limited, container depots in Kaduna and Kano," the statement said.

Now, seriously, this is a biiiiig landmark judgment. I am so so happy. I hope and pray that more of such court judgements will help devolve the highly illegal and unnecessary concentrated in the centre. In particular ministries of agriculture, education, oil and solid minerals. The centre needs to be leaner and more of internal affairs regulatory and foreign projection oriented.

I read tru d whole tin and for those sectors they 'evaluated', they actuali pointed out and agreed with the improvements (only cos they had to) but immediately 'found' another stu.pid reason to dismiss it. For in stance, after calling d improvements in d Airports 'cosmetic', they went ahead to commend it yet dismissed same with d bizarre reason that Govt had not solved 'capacity issues' ie d No of persons using d Airport! How do you judge a Govt UNDERTAKING serious improvements in a previously DEAD infrastructure (which you just grudgingly acknowleged and commended) and still dismiss those improvements only just cos 'people had not yet started to use the infrastructure with is still in d process of improvement, in full?'. What sort of logic is that? They also did same thing with d Rail sector: acknowledged the improvements there, yet dismissing same cos according to them 'd Govt report did state how many goods and persons were been lifted by d Rehabilitated Railways'!!They used exactly d same 'methology' in Every other Sector they 'evaluated': agree and even highlight d improvements/projects d Govt presented in d report, but dismissing same with a sillly reason...... This was not an Evaluation Report; but a hacket job with PREDETERMINED objectives. Full stop
