PoliticsRe: Nigeria To Devalue Naira As External Reserves Dwindle by taharqa2: 2:24pm On Jul 23, 2013
wirinet: Devaluation has not started yet, by the time the new realities hit Nigeria, we would be exchanging $1 for N500. The naira is being kept high by CBN pumping excess dollars into the market, sanusi could do that because of available slush of dollars from high oil receipts with dollars selling above $100. But with the production of shale gas, the US is set to compete with OPEC in oil production. So OPEC would lose control of oul prices and oil prices would come spiraling down. That would affect the availability of dollars to the CBN, leading to supply shortage.

Anybody who do not want to die of hunger better keep his or her PHD, MSC or BSc inside his wardrobe and till the land. Because agriculture and agro-allied business will be the only to survive in the very near future.

The sad aspect is that the government seems oblivious of the unfolding economic realiies and are not investing massively in agriculture.
I think you should keep your mouth SHUT if you do not know what you are talking about......

IGBO-SON:
Any pics of Abakaliki?......especially works at the new secretariat, and the tall office block i heard is being built.

All Ebonyi needs is a dynamic youthful Governor (with a vision) to build on what Governor Elechi has put in place. I started cutting him some slack when i realised he has managed to place Ebonyi at the top in the IGR stakes in the South East.....even beating the obvious two you would expect to outperform their peers.
Really? Are you sure about this Bros??...
PoliticsRe: The Ebonyi State You May Not Have Known by taharqa2: 9:50pm On Jul 22, 2013
Goddex: Ebonyi is ignorantly underrated even here on nairaland. The capital Abakaliki is a lot better than most state capitals I have been to. Their expansive rice mill complex is a wonder to behold. The quality of private buildings dotting the city is another site attraction. They have good dual carriageways criss-crossing the entire city. The last time I drove past there, the Federal Government was completing dualisation of the Spera-in-due heading Ezamgbo and also the Spera-in-due heading Ogoja axis.

Their big setback are the Ezza and Izzi. Apart from their timid lifestyle the people are so engrossed in the traditional farming practices and love war like the way a Calabar man like dog meat.
Really? Why have I always viewed the State in a not too edifying light then?? Very interesting, in deed...

Am reali IMPRESSED at d way d 3 Armed Services- Army, Navy and Airforce- are NOW looking inwards and providing Solutions to their needs in stead of completely relying on imports like it used to be. From 1st Ship (Navy) to 1st UAV/drone (Airforce) to 1st Armored Carrier (Army), etc. They are repairing their own Barracks with such speed (as well as those of other Sister services like d Police when called upon by d C-in-C), building State of d Art Military Hospitals and Diagnostic centres, Digitizing Military operations, Opening up new Training areas and centres, etc. They can now be said to be PROFESSIONALISM.. I was very proud of what d Army displayed as various Solutions to their needs on their last Army Day Parade in Abuja- from d Sophisticated like Armored Carrier to the rather mordane like a Field Kitchen and Hospital unit. I rememba d President and Commander-in-Chief himself commending them profusely..... Kudos to d Leaders, Officials and Men of d Nigeria Armed Forces

PoliticsRe: Evacuation Of Cargoes By Rail From Seaports Begins Soon by taharqa2: 11:58am On Jul 21, 2013
manny4life: You're saying this same thing he's saying only differently. His post is explaining how inept OBJ's administration was, it did not take Obj 8 years to privatize the ports, it was completed in few months, no longer than 18months. If Obj used same swift action - privatization or govt, this project would have been completed in record time even before Yaradua. The point here is GEJ started the rehabilitation agenda, actualized it and putting it to work.

It about two years for GEJ to rehabilitate our rail system and putting it back to service (though it needs newer rolling stock), if OBJ was serious about it, 8 years is more than ENOUGH to build (not rehabilitate) hundreds of miles of rail. Like someone suggested, the Railway Act is what's holding up Nigeria and needs to be amended or even repealed, as soon as Railway is privatized, foreign and domestic investment will follow suit.
Very well said...

awodman: You failed to provide how long it took to construct what you call "development"...
And if you look closely it actually did cost a whooping $32 billion dollars to achieve that..

Meanwhile it cost $151.7 million to rehabilitate Lagos-kano narrow gauge line...

For the Lagos-Ibadan standard guage line the contract will cost $1.59 billion
Abuja-kaduna standard guage line will cost $875 million

malele: “My
attention has been drawn to a statement in the
media by the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC)
on my views published on a chat forum which was
lifted by PILOT Newspaper and published in its
edition of July 17, 2013.
In the said view written under my name as I have
done several years now, I stated that the corruption
going on in the South West States under ACN is far
greater than what we witnessed under PDP.
“I buttressed my point with the fact that where I
dragged Mr. Alao Akala to EFCC in 2010 for asking
each Local Government in Oyo state to award 5 kms
of road at N250m to a particular contractor, a
company linked to the ACN National Leader is
collecting a kilometer of road at N1b each in the
same region
.
“The newspaper quoted me correctly but mistakenly
referred to me as ‘Buhari Spokesman’ but never said
I spoke for General Buhari.
“Perhaps the paper did not know that I ceased being
Buhari’s media advisor shortly after the Supreme
Court ruled on the 2011 elections which brought us
together for a period of about 8 months.
“I had expected those who want to provide
leadership for the country to read the publication
they are reacting to before rushing to the media to
‘disown’ who they don’t own. I guess the desire to
appease allies overrides this simple process.
“If they had done this due diligence they would have
known that there was nowhere General Buhari was
linked to my views.”

awodman: It disclosed that the next service to be introduced in the
corporation's Capacity Enhancement Programme would be the haulage of bran and wheat flour for Dufil Prima foods (Indomie).

It said that 436 tonnes of the product were expected to be moved weekly from Apapa to Kaduna, adding that the
service would commence before the end of July.

"Furthermore the corporation will in August commence the haulage of container freight from APM terminal in Apapa Port to Inland Container Nigeria Limited, container depots in Kaduna and Kano," the statement said.

The NRC Managing Director, Mr. Seyi Sijuwade, had also
confirmed that the intended public private partnership
initiatives would further enhance the capacity of train
services across the country

PoliticsRe: NRC Commences Third Weekly Lagos-kano Train Service by taharqa2:
Another Good one... Shebi, it was cos of what they called 'initial capacity issues' that made d people who released the 'Report' that @Gbawe posted yterday to simply dismiss all d work going on in d Rails sector? As if Capacity Maximization is immediately attained whilst still in d beginning of revamping a previously DEAD infrastructure?? After GEJ recommissioned d Lagos Intercity train Service in 2011, it started with just 1 train per day; and then move to 6 per day; then 12 and today, 18 train service ferry about 30,000 persons Every Single Day. That is how it usuali happens anywhere. This same Lagos-Kano Train Service started 7 months ago with just a Single train each week; then it became 2, and now 3. Eventuali, it wud become at least 7 train Service each week ferrying both PASSENGERS and CARGOES, just as it was more than 20 years ago b4 previous Govts killed it. That is what is called PROGRESS- bit by bit, as long as one is working and moving in the right direction.... Eventuali, according to d Govt's 25 years Railways Intermodal Strategy, this Older narrow guage wud be used to ferry MOSTLY Cargoes/Goods; whilst the Modern Rail Guages currently unda construction by this Govt (as well as many others whose Feasibility Studies is currently been undataken), wud be used MOSTLY to ferry Passengers. Again, that is how PROGRESS is defined...

This can't be right! It is miscarriage of justice meant to embarrass GEJ and FG. It is handiwork of "Tinubu" and Justice Salami. They want to steal our
oil. We no go gree...we must divide this country

Now, seriously, this is a biiiiig landmark judgment. I am so so happy. I hope and pray that more of such court judgements will help devolve the highly illegal and unnecessary concentrated in the centre. In particular ministries of agriculture, education, oil and solid minerals. The centre needs to be leaner and more of internal affairs regulatory and foreign projection oriented.
What is dis ijiot making NOISE over? This is a good development. I bliv All of us wish that d Centre becomes leaner (though still relatively Strong) while more Resources and Responsibilities go to the Constituent parts; and d fact, that disputes bw Tiers of Govt are resolved in such a constitutional and amicable manner as d above case, is a huge positive reflection of the extent of our deepening Democracy..
