Culture / Anambra Prophet, Odumeje Apologizes To Arondizuogu, Awka People by talk2archy: 5:03pm On May 30, 2020
Prophet Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, an Onitsha based pastor popularly known as Odumeje has apologised to the People of Arondizuogu in Imo State and Awka in Anambra State, over hurtful statements he made in viral videos on their mode of worship.

Odumeje in separate videos that went viral on social media in April had allegedly attacked Arondizuogu people, describing them as fetish, just as he attacked one of their prominent sons, Pericomo too.

For Awka, Odumeje described their masquerade festival, Egwu Imo Awka as being fetish and a means of worshiping monkeys, which is the symbol of the god.

In one of the videos, Odumeje was seen boasting that if he came in contact with the monkeys worshiped by Awka people, he would destroy them.

Though Odumeje’s community, Orsu in Imo State had written to the communities involved, tendering apologies, he has remained indifferent, maintaining his silence, while more videos of him deriding the communities surfaced.

But in a press release signed by the popular pastor and made available to DAILY POST on Saturday morning, he apologized to the two towns, saying that he had watched and found his own videos on them hurtful.

Below is the full text of the release:

”My attention has been drawn to publications on social media over the alleged face-off between me and the good people of Awka and Arondizuogu communities in Anambra and Imo States respectively.

”In the said posts, I was portrayed as declaring war on the people of these communities and their respective traditional festivals and beliefs. It was also alleged that I had vowed to destroy Imo-Awka festival and put a stop to the Ikeji festival of Arondizuogu.

”Consequent upon the above, I wish to acknowledge that the people of Awka and Arondizuogu communities are peace loving and I have over the years come to share fellowship and service in church with a great number of them.

”These two communities and their renowned indigenes have been known and recognized as major contributors to the development of their states, Igbo land and the nation at large.

”Awka and Arondizuogu communities have produced great men and women of integrity and pedigree and have always remained at the top of great sons and daughters of Igbo land.

”Against this backdrop and with every humility as a Servant of the Living God, I sincerely apologise to the great people of these two Communities, to the entire people of Igbo land and to my Elders for my utterances. I will not make any attempts to justify my statement as even I can see that it’s hurtful in all its ramifications.

”I also want to specially apologize to the family of Mazi Pericomo of Arondizuogu who I understand until his passing was a diligent servant ( Evangelist) of God. I apologize and put it on record that this experience has taught me that words that speak any form of divisive conversation amongst our people MUST be checked. This is a time for unity, love and unwavering support for each other.

”Similarly, I lend my voice to the directives of the federal and state government in observing all the COVID-19 protocols, while waiting on the Lord for the end of the pandemic.”

Nsirim recalled that “Protest Hotel was demolished two weeks ago because the owners violated Executive Order 7 which banned the operation of hotels.

Politics / Trump Orders Governors To Allow Places Of Worship To Reopen Immediately by talk2archy: 3:09am On May 23, 2020
US President Donald Trump has announced that he has ordered governors to open up places of worship opining that is wrong for some state governors to designate ‘liquor stores and abortion clinics’ as ‘essential services’ but keep places of worship like churches, mosques and synagogues closed.

Amid the Coronavirus pandemic hat has killed over 95,000 people in the US, Trump on Friday said he is designating all places of worship – including churches, synagogues and mosques – “essential,” saying he wants them to “open right now.”

Reacting to the move by state governors of keeping “liquor stores and abortion centres” open during during the lockdown while keeping places of worship shuttered, Trump said in the White House briefing room.

It’s not right,” Trump said. “I’m calling houses of worship essential.”

“If there’s any question, they’re going to have to call me, but they’re not going to be successful in that call,” Trump said of state leaders.

“The governors need to do the right thing and allow these very important essential places of faith to open right now, for this weekend,”

“If they don’t do it, I will override the governors.”

“It’s not right,” ”This move is aimed at correcting this injustice.”

“If there’s any question, they’re going to have to call me, But they are not going to be successful in that call.”

“In America, we need more prayer,” “Not less.” Mr Trump said before leaving the briefing room.

Earlier on Friday Trump spoke more on the subject.

“We want our churches and our places of faith and worship, we want them to open,” he said. “But they’re going to be opening up very soon. We want our churches open, we want our places of faith, synagogues, we want them open, and that’s going to start happening.”

“I consider them essential, and that’s one of the things we’re saying. We’re going to make that essential,” Mr Trump said. “You know, they have places [deemed] essential that aren’t essential. And they open, and yet the churches aren’t allowed to open, and the synagogues. And again, places of faith, mosques, places of faith.”

A large chunk of Mr Trump’s political base is very religious. In the 2016 election, Trump notably took 75 per cent of the white evangelical vote and has invited pastors and preachers during his tenure to lead prayer sessions at the White House.

Trump appeared in the briefing room to read a short statement announcing he has approved guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to help state and local leaders safely allow worship facilities to open back up.

Politics / Govt. Spends N40,000 To N50,000 Per COVID-19 Test, Lagos Commissioner For Health by talk2archy: 5:44am On May 22, 2020
Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Akin Abayomi, has said that the state government spends about N40,000 to N50,000 per COVID-19 test.

Abayomi said this while updating the public on efforts put in place by the government to stop the spread of Coronavirus in the state.

He said, “Regarding the testing, we so far have performed 16,000 tests in Lagos, which is much higher than anywhere else in Nigeria, and we’re planning to continue to test up to about a thousand tests a day.

“So, in the next month or two, we’re going to be ramping up our capacity to test. How much does it cost to test? Well, for now, the government is providing testing free of charge and the government pays about N40,000 to N50,000 per test.

“But to ramp up our testing, we’re going to try and use some means of subsidising those tests, either through insurance or through some contributions from donors or from developmental partners to help us to subsidise the tests.

“For now, the state government is providing COVID-19 testing free of charge and all citizens who need to be tested for COVID-19 because they are not feeling well, or they’ve had a close contact, can get that test free of charge at any of our COVID-19 testing sites in the four laboratories.”

Health / We Demand An Apology From NCDC For Recording 10 COVID-19 Instead Of 2 – Zamfara by talk2archy: 7:37am On May 20, 2020
Zamfara government says there is an error in the number of new COVID-19 cases announced by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) for the state on Monday.

The NCDC in its release on new cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria, stated that Zamfara had 10 new cases.

However, in an interview with NAN, Alhaji Yahaya Kanoma, the state Commissioner of Health said the state has asked the agency to rectify the error and also tender an apology.

“We were shocked and bewildered by this latest figure from the NCDC which said 10 new cases were confirmed when we know it was only two.

Our records have shown that when results from the center returned, we had a total of 76 cases made up of 45 discharged persons, 26 in isolation and five dead, so we didn’t know where NCDC got the additional eight.

We approached the center which could not give a convincing explanation, and so we demanded a written apology which they promised to send as well as withdraw the media publicity that we had 10 new cases,” the commissioner said

The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola has revealed the mission of the 15 Chinese experts who came into the country in April.

While speaking at the daily press briefing of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 today May 19, Arebesola said the experts are in Nigeria on the bill of China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) to assist in building and equipping isolation centres.

He also refuted claims that they have been snuck out of Nigeria.

“Indeed 15 Chinese nationals came into Nigeria on 8th of April. They are here on the bill of the CCECC, a Chinese company doing some works for us in Nigeria in conjunction with some Nigerian companies they agreed to support us in the effort to respond to the pandemic.

At Idu isolation centre in Abuja, they participated in retrofitting and equipping the isolation centre. They equally worked on the Dome project, that was handled by the NNPC Construction in conjunction with ThisDay.

So, those are the locations in which they came to work. Both in retrofitting the Iju facility and installing critical essential medical equipment” he said

He added that the Chinese experts came into Nigeria on a 30-day visa issued in Beijing and they are still in the country because there is a restriction on travel occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Politics / JUST IN!!! Court Convicts Owner, Manager Of Demolished Hotel In Rivers by talk2archy: 9:38am On May 19, 2020
A magistrates’ court in Port Harcourt has convicted and fined the owner and manager of demolished Prodest Hotel in Eleme, Gogorobari Needam and Bariledum Azoroh N50,000 for contravening the State Executive Order on COVID-19.

Although Needam was not present in court, the court ordered that Azoroh should be quarantined at the isolation centre in Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Elekahia for 14 days to ascertain his coronavirus status.

Senior magistrate, Rita Oguguo, who delivered the judgement yesterday, said the accused violated Governor Nyesom Wike’s executive order on closure of hotels in the state, saying the accused violated paragraph 3 and 4 of the executive order number 7.

Before his sentence, Azoroh had insisted on seeing his counsel, Godwin Awi, who was absence in court due to his inability to get a pass that allowed access the court due to continued lockdown of Port Harcourt and Obio-Akpor council areas.

pass that allowed access the court due to continued lockdown of Port Harcourt and Obio-Akpor council areas.

He lamented that in spite of the plea by his client to get his counsel to defend him, the court went ahead to convict him, adding,

“With what has happened, it is clear that there are other underlying issues that probably we do not know.

“I do not agree with everything that has transpired today in line with the fact that the Constitution is clear as to the issue of right to counsel, adequate time and facility for an accused person standing trial to defend himself.”

Meanwhile, Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Mrs. Ipalibo Harry Banigo has dismissed insinuations that Governor Wike was sidelining her in the fight against COVID-19 and implementation of other state government’s programmes and policies.

Banigo, a public health expert, said the statement from the Centre for Public Trust (CPT) in which it asked Governor Wike to stop sidelining her was done in bad faith.

In a statement issued by her spokesperson, Owupele Benebo, the deputy governor said she would have ignored the group, but that it was important to set the records straight so that Rivers people and the larger society would not be made to believe the falsehood that Wike had relegated her to the background.

Romance / WICKEDNESS! Man Seals His Wife’s Private Part With Super Glue by talk2archy: 8:46am On May 18, 2020
A manhunt has been launched for a man who sexually assaulted his wife after accusing her of infidelity on Saturday, May 16.

The police in Tharaka South Sub-County in Kenya said the suspect first persuaded his wife to move from their Marimanti township home, fearing that he would be arrested after having traveled from Nairobi where there is a lockdown.

On reaching Kathita River, the man who threatened to kill his wife ordered her to UnCloth. It was gathered that when she turned down his request, the man descended on her with blows while threatening to stab her with the knife he was holding.

The police read in part;

“They both went and on reaching River Kathita, he ordered her to remove all her clothes so that she may tell him all the men she had slept with while he was at Nairobi.”

Tharaka South Police Commander, Kiprop Rutto said the suspect then proceeded to adding pepper, salt and onions in his wife’s private parts using a sharp knife, before applying superglue mixed with sand to ‘seal’ it off.

He also applied the same super glue on his wife’s ears and mouth before fleeing from the scene.

The woman managed to walk to Marimanti Police Station where she reported the matter before she was rushed to Marimanti Sub-County Hospital where she is receiving treatment. Mr Rutto added that the suspect is a known criminal in the region who is being sought by the police for various crimes.

Police said they have launched a manhunt to seize and charge him in court.

Wanted Rivers PDP Youth leader replies Wike from hideout

Mr Princewill Osarojiji – whom Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has put a N5 million bounty on – has reacted to the allegations levelled against him by the government.

Osarojiji, who is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Youth leader in Eleme Local Government Area of the State, gave his own side of the story Friday on NigeriaInfo FM, Port Harcourt.

He stated that the person masterminding his downfall is the State Commissioner for Finance, Mr Isaac Kamalu – his relative who doesn’t want him to grow politically – who allegedly misinformed Wike that Osarojiji owned and operated the now-demolished Prodest hotel, during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Osarojiji denies owning the hotel, claiming he last saw the hotel owner, who resides in Lagos, five years ago – and may not even recognise him again.

Stage-managed
On the allegations that he ordered thugs to beat up the lockdown enforcement team – who went to shut down the hotel – leaving some of them in critical conditions, and one reportedly dead, Osarojiji denied any wrongdoing.

He said the acclaimed sick people, who he simply gave their names as Kolowa, Appollous, and Abuchia were among those that distributed the state government palliatives on Sunday evening after the demolition had taken place and wondered how they could suddenly become sick after distributing palliatives.

Osarojiji stated that those bandages were all staged-manged, saying the men hastily rushed to the hospital and pretended to be in pains when the governor was set to appear live on television for interviews on the demolition of the hotels.

He argued that if it’s really true that somebody was killed during the alleged attack, the state government should provide his name and family to enable residents to go for a condolence visit.

“What happened was that some persons were in front of the hotel and when the COVID-19 taskforce members saw them, they went there and demanded N100,000 from the management alleging that they were operating and because of that, the hotel manager called me and when I arrived at the hotel, the gate of the hotel was closed and fortunately I know all the task people making such demands because I gave them the job.

“So, I asked them why they will be denting the image of the state government by demanding money from citizens, then, I ordered them to leave the hotel, but Mr Kamalu went and informed the governor that I was operating the hotel with some hoodlums, that was why the governor got angry and came the following day and demolished the hotel,” he said.

The PDP youth leader expressed willingness to submit himself to the security agencies or to the governor but appealed that he should be granted a fair hearing.

I’m not a cultist
He denied the accusation that he’s a cultist, and also said: “I’m not hiding, all I want is for the governor to invite everyone in Eleme, the chiefs, traditional rulers, the security agencies, then I will come out and we all will sit down and unravel the truth.”

He added: “I appeal to the governor to withdraw his decisions and properly investigate the whole saga, he was only misinformed and he acted in anger.

Mr Princewill Osarojiji says he was framed up

Religion / INDABOSKI Anambra Community Dragged Prophet Odumeje To Court For Insulting Them by talk2archy: 5:16pm On May 16, 2020
Prophet Chukwuemeka Ohanemere a.k.a Odumeje has been dragged to court by Awka community in Anambra State over a statement credited to him.

The controversial prophet was said to have insulted the indigenes, calling them worshippers of monkey.

To this end, the oldest man of Awka town, Ozo Ibe Nwosu, and other custodians of culture of the community have sued the prophet.

They said that the prophet in a comment that had gone viral in social and conventional media respectively called them fools for having monkeys which could not be touched by anyone.

They added that after considering the prophet’s comment, they found that there was no reason for the unwarranted attack by the prophet on them.

In a petition written by their lawyer, Ebelechukwu Nsofo, to the State Commissioner of Police, CP John Abang, they called on the police to look into the matter.

The petition dated 14th May, 2020 was titled, “Threat to the life and conduct likely to cause breach of peace against Prophet Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, a.k.a Odumejeje”.

The petition alleged that:

“The prophet threatened to tear our clients and their monkeys to pieces any day he catches them.

“The comment is capable of causing unimaginable proportion of breach of peace if care is not taken by the relevant authority.”

Petitioners include Ozo Ibe Nwosu (the tallest man in Awka), Ichie Awka and Chief Priest of Imo Awka for themselves and indigenes of Awka.

While reminding the prophet that the Nigerian Constitution guaranteed freedom of worship and that no religion is greater than the other, they enjoined the police to wade into the matter by calling the prophet to order.
