In what seems like a miracle, the chief medical director of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, Prof Jesse Otegbayo, has tested negative for COVID-19, eight days after he announced to the world that he was confirmed positive for the pandemic coronavirus. The Nation gathered through the Head of Public Relations Unit of the hospital Mr Toye Akinrinlola that the last test on his blood sample has come back negative. Akinrinlola said the test result arrived at about 3:45 pm to gladden the heart of family, friends and workers of the institution. Otegbayo had tested positive to the virus seven days ago. He said he may have contracted the virus through Board meetings of the hospital held from Monday to Wednesday last week. The week-long meetings were suspended on Thursday after some members showed symptoms of COVID-19. He was among the eight confirmed cases in Oyo State as at Wednesday April 1. The Provost of the College of Medicine and his deputy have also tested positive for the virus and have since placed themselves in self-isolation. Elizabeth Oyeniyi, the young lady who recently accused the Kogi state Commissioner for Water Resources, Abdulmumuni Danga, of physically assaulting her over a Facebook post she made about his family, has come out to allege that he also raped her. In a video chat with activist Dorothy Njemanze, Elizabeth said ”On the 29th of March, I was in Okene, Kogi state. I made a post about the Honorable Commissioner for Water Resources, Abdulmumin Danga. “I was trying to talk about him helping his little sister and help his family that charity begins at home because he happened to be distributing some things during this COVID period. “I know the sister and I know what she is going through because she has told me several things about her. Immediately after the post, one local comedian made a screenshot of it and sent it to him. “He got pissed off with the post and sent a group of guys with a hilux and Sienna to come and pick me up from my friends house where I was in Okene. They took me to lokoja, beat me up, made a naked video of me. After that, he asked me and the sister to tell his fans that we are sorry. He flogged us himself. He did not release me that day” she said When asked what he did to her over the night, she said He made advances and had sex with me. He raped me”. Elizabeth said she did not consent to the sex and only had sex with him because of the fear and anxiety. Cross River State government has accused men of the Nigeria Police Force of sabotaging its efforts at preventing the spread of the coronavirus disease into Akwa Ibom State. In a statement, an aide to the governor on publicity, Peter Iyali, said Police officers, mounting the State boundaries, were allegedly collecting N500 each from hundreds of individuals wishing to cross into the state. He said the action of the bad eggs in the police force was disgraceful and a betrayal, adding that the sabotage was more rampant at the Calabar-Itu road boundary. Iyali said the state government was not leaving any stone unturned but solicited for the supports and understanding of everyone particularly the police. He said: “We need everybody to, at least, be responsible at this time. Police should do their work, after the pandemic, they can return to their normal ways. “This thing is no joke. If the Police don’t want to help the state, government should withraw them from all the state borders and empower willing youths to help government enforce the lockdown order. “Now that five cases out of the 17 tested in Akwa Ibom came out positive, Cross River will be in serious problem because of the irresponsibility and insatiable appetite of some officers for bribes. “This thing is now in our neighbouring states; Akwa Ibom and Benue. Cross River is now at a high risk.” Reacting on behalf of the commissioner of police in the state, Mr Uche Anozia, the assistant commissioner in charge of operations in the state, Mr Cletus, said the allegation was not true as it is not only the police officers who make up the security task forces. “We doubt much because every security personnel, especially the police personnel are well tutored about how to function during these times. People like to give police a bad name in order to hang them. “Remember that President [Muhammadu Buhari] has exempted petroleum products, animals and certain critical economic goods not to be blocked. So, at these entry ports people misconstrue when our men allow these items to pass through,” he said. |
A doctor treating COVID-19 patients at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Edo State, has contracted the disease, the President of the National Association of Resident Doctors, Dr Aliyu Sokomba, has said. The NARD President said this on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme monitored by our correspondent on Thursday Sokomba said six doctors had died of Lassa fever while one unnamed doctor had been infected with COVID-19. He said, “At the moment, as health workers continue to play their part in containing the spread of the disease, the health workers are not protected. One of our colleagues died just yesterday from Lassa fever. This is the state of our health care institutions and that is the fate of most health care workers in the country. “Dr. Philp Dzuana is the sixth doctor to have died of Lassa fever in the country and very little is being done to getting this kind of situation under control. “Just yesterday again, one of our doctors in ISTH, Iruaa, had tested positive for the COVID-19 disease. What that means is that these doctors that are testing positive to various diseases are being left alone to take care of themselves. “There is no form of life insurance for them. There is no form of compensation. To say the least, what these doctors benefit at the end of every month as hazard allowance is N5, 0000. So, we are worried that if victory against COVID-19, Lassa fever outbreak in the country is to be achieved, the welfare and wellbeing of doctors and other health workers who are on the frontline must be secured.” Source: The Punch |
The Lagos State, through its Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, has said it does not know the whereabouts of Abba Kyari, the Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari. This is contrary to reports that Kyari is at the Mainland Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) isolation centre in Lagos. Prof. Abayomi said he does not know Kyari’s location. Recall that Kyari had on Sunday, informed Nigerians, via a letter, that he tested positive for COVIID-19 last week and would be in Lagos on Monday for further tests based on medical advice. He was later reported to have been flown from Abuja to Lagos in an air ambulance But, while addressing newsmen on Tuesday, Prof. Abayomi said:- “I’m not aware of the Chief of Staff’s itinerary, so I don’t know where he is, we chat on WhatsApp but I cannot tell where he is from our chat. “We’re exchanging information, but I haven’t asked him for his location. “He seems well and happy and we’re exchanging information on strategic issues. “It has been a long time we talked about his health. I presume he has made a full recovery.” It will be recalled that Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, had earlier alleged that Abba Kyari has “scampered” to Cuba for Coronavirus treatment. https://www..ng/news/coronavirus-we-dont-know-abba-kyaris-whereabouts-lagos-govt-says-read-details

All hands must be on deck at a time like this. The Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, has revealed a certain herb he said can be used to cure coronavirus and he has used same, and got results. In a recent social media post, the respected monarch stated that the pandemic had been predicted last year, as he went on to reveal that the treatment for the virus can be found in Africa and he listed the herbs that he claims cures the virus… He also stated that he’s willing to work with “researchers both in Nigeria and the world to make these natural herbs into clinical medicine and extract the vaccines from it.” The Ooni wrote:- “A divine proclamation came out to the world last year June 6th 2019, during the World Ifa Festival – Otura Meji. We foretold about the impending rage of this invisible pandemic war, but few heard us. Please note that Efod/ Urim and Thurim are in the holy Books. “They are the same as our ancient readings that have not failed us till date. On this throne, I work very closely with all the nations of the world most especially the nation of Cuba. “Centuries go by, the nation of Cuba hold dearly the tenets of our ancestors and rely on the blessings of the mystery of nature, and as a result they have the best medical care in the world. They are the ONLY country that have come out boldly to help the world. “The Almighty is above religion and he is moving now, the world will now respect nature WHOLLY. Remember nature does not need you, we all need nature to survive. Truly, the world will NEVER remain the same again! “To solve this ailment is through natural elements put together above all from nature. It has been tested!!! I have used it and also used it for some of the chronic Corona patients with testimonials. “PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THIS FOR GRANTED (The world did with the warning Last Year June). I also challenge researchers both in Nigeria and the world to make these natural herbs into clinical medicine and extract the vaccines from it. “I am ready to work with them and provide huge access to the herbs. It is real and it works. I have a lot gathered together for the use of mankind. “I’m also currently working with Yem Kem International (Alternative Medicine Expert) pharmaceutical company for the packaging and distribution of these globally. It is about time to save the world now. Tomorrow may be too late. Let’s all keep safe.” Sahara Reporters |
A 12-year-old girl confirmed infected with COVID-19 has died in Belgium, health officials said Tuesday. Fatality at such a young age “is a very rare occurrence,” said government spokesman Dr Emmanuel Andre, adding that her death “shook us”. The girl had had a fever for three days before her death, and tested positive for COVID-19, said another spokesman, Steven Van Gucht. No other details were given about her case, including whether she had any other underlying health problems. It was the first death of a child in the coronavirus crisis in Belgium, which has now recorded a total of 705 deaths from the disease it causes, according to the latest official toll. Last week, France reported the death of a 16-year-old girl from coronavirus in the greater Paris region. Although serious COVID-19 infections are uncommon among the young, some exceptional cases have been taken to hospital intensive-care wards, as US health authorities have pointed out. Belgium’s toll on Tuesday represented a jump of nearly 200 fatalities from that given the previous day, which stood at 513. It comprised 98 deaths recorded in the preceding 24-hour period, plus another 94 deaths over previous days but which had not been counted in the national tally, Andre said. The small EU country, with a population of 11.4 million, now has 12,775 cases of persons tested positive for COVID-19, of whom 4,920 have been hospitalised, including 1,021 in intensive care. Hospitals in Brussels and in two provinces, in the north and the west, are now confronted with “a more complicated situation” as beds fill up, Andre said. SR. |
The Spiritual Director, Adoration Ministry Enugu Nigeria, Rev Fr. Ejike Mbaka, has debunked the report in social media that he had ministered that people should check their bible to find a strand of hair which they should put in water to wash their face as the solution to the COVID-19 global pandemic. On Saturday night, rumours went viral in the Coal City State that the controversial Catholic priest had directed that people should search for a strand of hair in their bible from the book of Psalms for a strand of hair which they should in water and use the water to cleanse their family against the coronavirus pandemic But Mbaka in a statement he personally signed on Sunday, described the report from the pit of hell and the handiwork of enemies of Adoration Ministry. The statement read, “I, Rev Fr Ejike Camillus Mbaka, the Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry Enugu Nigeria do hereby bring to you, my people, a message of hope and deliverance of the sick world from COVID-19 pandemic. “I hereby debunk the claim being peddled on public domain and social media that I, Rev Fr Ejike Mbaka, had ministered that people should check their bible to find a strand of hair which they should put in water to wash their face as the solution to the COVID-19 global pandemic. “This claim credited to me is false, mendacious, unfounded. As a priest of the Holy Roman Catholic Church, I am not associated with such occultic and satanic utterances or practices in my ministrations. The claim is a handwork of enemies of Adoration Ministry seeking to dent my good image. “Those spreading such rumours are agents of darkness, witches and wizards from the pit of hell with a demonic assignment of misleading people over such a global life-threatening pandemic. Consequently, I enjoin all true Christians to ignore these agents from the satanic kingdom. The Punch |
