even though I gave kudos to the police on this one, it is an open secret that no successful major robbery operation can take place without the knowledge of the police. I have seen live evidence to indict them even instances where people call the police during robbery operations on a street then the robbers visit that person days later just for reporting them to the police. How did the robbers know that particular person was the one who reported ? Na God dey save us for this country my brother.

LAGOS—LAGOS State Police Command’s manhunt for the robbery gang that, three weeks ago, raided Murtala Mohammed Airport, Lagos, killing two policemen and injuring several others, has led to the arrest of some members of the gang, Vanguard learnt yesterday.

Information available to Vanguard revealed that the suspects were arrested by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, Ikeja, who took over investigations, following a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar.

The operatives, who acted on a tip-off, as gathered, arrested the bandits from their respective hideouts within Lagos.

So far, the suspects were said to have confessed during interrogation on how they planned and carried out the operation.

Vanguard gathered that the suspects first raided the airport in February 2012, where N700 million was carted away.

It would be recalled that a 10-man robbery gang, armed with sophisticated weapons, invaded the airport on March 13, 2013 at 9am and headed for the Bureau De Change, BDC, operators centre near the car park, firing indiscriminately.

During a shoot-out with a team of policemen attached to the airport, two policemen were reportedly gunned down while a member of the gang was also killed.

The fire fight, however, prevented the robbers from reaching their target. Vanguard gathered that the suspects may be paraded today.

PoliticsMy Oga At The Top Shem Replaced By Adesuyi by talktimi(op): 11:56pm On Apr 01, 2013
Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, has finally replaced Mr. Obafaiye Shem, the man who postulated the “my oga at the top” mantra, as commandant of Lagos State Command. He was replaced by Mr. Adesuyi Clement from Oyo State Command.

The Commandant General of NSCDC, Dr. Olu Abolurin, who was in Lagos weekend over the alleged killing of two of his officers by some policemen, introduced the new Commandant to journalists.
However, he did not give reasons for Obafaye’s removal but sources hinted that it may not be unconnected with his recent interview on Channels Television live programme.

Before now, authorities of NSCDC have denied taking any disciplinary action against Mr. Shem over the said interview. Their reaction followed claims that Shem had been sacked on the orders of the Minister of Interior, who supervises the NSCDC.

Shem’s ordeal started when he appeared on Channels Television morning programme ‘Sunrise’ and when asked the NSCDC website he said:

“Hmmm, the website is, excuse me, my Oga at the top knows the website”. He again, cleared his throat and said: “My Oga at the top is working on the website and I don’t have them”.

When the presenters insisted that he give a functioning website address of the para-military outfit, he dropped the bombshell: “ww.nscdc, that’s all”.

Immediately, the interview went viral and has become so popular to the extent that t-shirts with “my oga at the top” insignia has been produced and selling like hot cake across the country, even as some DJs and musicians have done what they called a remix of the phrase.

Seems this "Oga at the top" wahala has just refused to die down. grin

PoliticsRe: Nigeria Hope For Railway Resurrection- Washington Post by talktimi(m): 7:40pm On Apr 01, 2013
Isn't there a way the federal govt can concession out railway routes/line whereby private investors can build their own tracks specifically for the use of high speed trains, they'll provide their own electricity to power the trains & pay royalty to the respective govt agencies. I guess this will only be hampered by constitutional restrictions just like the regional railways proposed by the SW but this is one of the reasons why we elect those dolts in the national assembly. To make things easier for us while they can travel anywhere they like.

taharqa: And you are bn SILLLY, as is USUAL. Okpeee, d Arik man VERY CLEARLY said that Airport facilities were IMPROVING significantly in 2 yrs- d KEY word: improving ie work in progress, as one wud expect since its only just 2yrs afta yrs of neglect (as d Arik man also emphasized). Nobody is unda d presumptn that we hv arrived, but we are CERTAINLY moving in d right direction, and at a much FASTER rate than in decades. The Arik man for instance said that sm Airports like those in Benin, Owerri, Yola, do not hv functional Runway Lightings YET but he didn't also mention Lagos and sm oda main Airports COS THOSE ONES ALREADY HAD THEIR RUNWAY LIGHTINGS INSTALLED RECENTLY BY THIS SAME ADMIN in d 1st phase of an ONGOING PROCESS that wud go round ALL runways in d country. B4 now, NO domestic airport had a functional runway lighting system; today, sm do and odas are in d process of bn installd- that is part of d PROGRESS the Arik man was talking about, one which is VERY EVIDENT to every Sane Airtraveller. HATERS and PROPAGANDISTS (Enermies of Progress) can do anytin bout this no mata how it much it PAINS them, and what's worst, this just a tip of d iceberg ..... By d way, d Aviation Min never said that d Remodelld Benin had a functional Lighting system already installd, but that it along with sm odas, were BEEN installd. That was also repeatd here again at d tail end of dis article
its just so pathetic that nairaland is frequented by dolts who lack reading and comprehension abilities. Their sadness and general apathy to any meaningful progress under this administration will surely choke them except they will lock themselves in caves in order not to utilize Nigeria's obviously improving infrastructure under this administration. Sorry is their name

Omo_Tier1: TO THE CLOWNS IN POWER WHO NEVER FAIL TO DISAPPOINT BY CHEERY PICKING WHAT FAVOURS THEM IN A NEWS ARTICLE AND REFUSE TO SHED LIGHT ON THE REVELATIONS .. let me help you!

By Chinedu Eze In spite of the passenger surge on domestic routes this Easter holiday, Arik Air has said that it was yet to operate to full capacity. Arik operates 120 flights daily and airlifts over 12,000 passengers daily.

The airline lamented that lack of airfield lighting at some of the nation’s airports made it inevitable that no airline can operate into such airports beyond 6:00 pm despite the fact that there were passengers travelling to such destinations. Why are Nigeria Airports still without Airfield lighting in this day and age? I thought they said the airport renovation was total?

For instance, Arik said it increased its flights to Asaba airport from once a day to three times daily but its flights could not fly to Benin airport after 6:00 pm because for now it is a visual flight rule airport, which means that no aircraft can fly there in the night. Is this the same Benin Airport that the minister claim to have revamped yet Airliners cannot land in that airport beyond 6pm?

According to the airline, it is the same with the airports in Yola, Owerri, Kaduna, Enugu and Ilorin. The Acting Deputy Managing Director of Arik Air, Ado Sanusi, told THISDAY that the airline was operating at just 60 per cent of its capacity, noting that the airline was capable of doing about 240 but presently doing 120 daily flights. Sanusi said that the airline's planes are currently being underutilised because they operate average of seven hours daily instead of 11 hours. “The airline has the capacity to cope with demands of domestic air travellers. With adequate infrastructure at the nation's airports, Arik can deploy its full capacity. We have 23 functional aircraft,” Sanusi said.

Sanusi also said the industry had significantly improved in terms of infrastructural renewal at the airports after many years of neglect and expressed the hope that the remodelling programme would be extended to the airport runways, especially in the provision of airfield lighting. The acting deputy managing director noted that within two years under the present administration, many of the airports now wear new look and commended the Federal Government for the upgrade of the General Aviation Terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, which is the main operational facility of the airline. “There are a lot of things to be done in the industry to make it better through a deliberate policy of government where the airlines can have operational environment that will enhance their provision of services because aviation is the catalyst of economic development of every nation, but this administration should be commended for what it has done so far,” Sanusi said. The Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah, had recently assured that from this year till the end of 2014, all the airport runways would have airfield lighting and fully upgraded.

Perhaps you guys really need to understand that Nigerians are not as foolish as you lots think.... The fact that Arik Air can only utilize 60% of her capacity largely due to inadequate facilities at the local airports says alot about the much touted Airport remodeling. There is more to Aviation than using oil paint and tiles undecided
sad child, I guess you skipped this part "Sanusi said. The Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah, had recently assured that from this year till the end of 2014, all the airport runways would have airfield lighting and fully upgraded." Its in this same article you posted if you agree to read things completely.

Omo_Tier1: FYI, I am neither an member of ACN neither am I a Fashola apologist but strictly abhors disgruntled elements whose trade is propaganda of a failed leadership.

Firstly, it is utterly stupid and ridiculous to compare Lagos State financial might with that of a Federal Government, if at all, need I remind you that for nearly 6years, Lagos State was denied Federal funding!

Secondly, it is unwholesomely inaccurate to claim that the Lagos light rail project has been undergoing construction for 14years. Such a cheap lie will not go far in today's Nigeria, sorry to disappoint you. More so, you cannot by any stretch of a mile compare the quality of Lagos project as of today to what FG is doing on the Lagos-Kano project. Maybe I also need to remind you that planning and design, Lagos light rail project is exactly where the planners dreamt the project will be as of today and most Nigerians can see that the project is making advancement and many are waiting earnestly to their lives changed by such a project. Same cannot be said of the FG Lagos-Kano line. I asked you half baked zealots of failed leadership a question: If the Lagos-Kano ail service was anything to rejoice about, why did lots of people prefer to sleep at MMIA over the Easter mad rush when they simply could have used this same Rail service you zealots are shouting high heaven about? That says a lot ..doesn't it?

Like I said in my other post, the way a man greets His neighbour in the morning will tell how far His day will go!
if you can afford the air ticket from Lag to Kano, I suggest you skip the flight and go 39 hrs by rail instead then you will understand why people preffered to sleep at MMIA waitong for Arik flights. You'll also consider that all those sleeping at the MMIA were "going" to Kano for easter celebrations since by your logic everyone stranded at the MMIA this easter hols and didn't use the rail line was automatically supposed to be going to Kano. The FG isn't thr yet but at least they've made an effort to start a project that has been abandoned for donkey years, the least you can do is to stop being sad about it.

PoliticsRe: Nigeria Hope For Railway Resurrection- Washington Post by talktimi(m): 10:33am On Mar 30, 2013
I believe the railway system should be privatised or better still opened up the capable individuals/companies who will bring in their own trains to run the available routes, this will ease the pressure on govt owned trains and they can even diversify between strictly haulage or passenger trains. It will benefit our country in the long run.
I heard the NRC is planning on going into high speed trains within a few years time to complement the locomotive trains and they shall criss cross the length and breadth of this country, trying to verify the news.

The only other credible rivals to this brute are the Mercedes Benz C63 AMG and Audi's R S5.
The 2013 BMW M3 is powered by an exclusive, naturally aspirated 4.0-liter V8 that cranks out ample midrange power topped off by an addictive high-end rush as it winds out to a sky-high 8,400-rpm redline.
The fuel cosumption ratio is up to 14cty/20hwy mpg.
The powerful V8 engines sends 414 horsepower and 295 pound feet of torque to the rear wheels. The ride comes with a standard 6 speed manual transmission and a seven speed dual clutch automated manual transmission comes as optional.
A zero to sixty mph sprint in the 6 speed manual transmission clocks at 4.6 seconds while a convertible with the dual clutch automated transmission clocked at 4.8 seconds.
