fergie001: South Korea's candidate for the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Yoo Myung-Hee has announced she will withdraw from the race, clearing the path for Nigeria's Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala who the General Council announced late last year as the consensus candidate.
The World Trade Organization’s General Council Chair David Walker announced in October last year that Nigeria’s Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala had garnered the most support among WTO members to become the next global trade chief, but was vetoed by the United States.
NOI, as she is fondly called, will be the first female and first African to head the WTO if affirmed by its 164 members.
PS: @YooMyunghee1's withdrawal does not mean @NOIweala immediately becomes the @wto's next Director-General.
That appointment is taken in a formal decision by the WTO's 164 members.
Since the U.S. is the only @wto member blocking @NOIweala's candidacy the key question now is whether the Biden administration will reverse the Trump administration's veto and support @NOIweala
Absent opposition from any WTO members, the chairman of the WTO general council, David Walker, can announce the resumption of the @wto's suspended October general council meeting to consider the appointment of a new Director-General.

sunnybobonwa: Oduduwa Republic: Yorubas abroad open GoFundMe page for Sunday Igboho
The appeal has received nearly £8,000 within five hours of going live on the Internet.
Yorubas in the diaspora have opened A GoFundMe Page for controversial activist Sunday ‘Igboho’ Adeyemo, saying it was to aid a struggle for the Oduduwa Republic.
The campaign is aimed at funding a fleet of vehicles and other equipment for Igboho and his followers, who have been at the forefront of a renewed agitation for the actualisation of Yoruba’s secession from Nigeria.
The campaign could add another layer of complication to the raging national conversation about Nigeria’s unity under President Muhammadu Buhari, whose governing style has been evidently sectional and divisive.
Already, pro-Biafran sentiments have gained widespread popularity amongst the Igbo ethnic stock occupying the country’s southeast.
Igboho has been in the news lately over his campaign to drive Fulani herdsmen from Oke-Ogun and other parts of Yorubaland, alleging that they have been the dominant perpetrators of violent crimes in the region.
In January, Mr. Buhari Asked The Police To Shoot Igboho On Sight after he led an army of his supporters to attack homes of Fulani settlers in Oyo.
Still, Igboho’s campaign to fragment the country has received the attention of some Yorubas in the diaspora.
About £8,000 has been raised out of the £100,000 goal for the purchase of buses that will help address concerns around logistics for Mr. Igboho and his supporters.
It was not immediately clear whether or not the people behind the campaign have ties to Igboho or discussed the matter with him before the launching the fundraiser. A spokesman for the activist did not immediately return a request seeking comments from the Gazette Wednesday night.
.. In Summary: What I am trying to say is that the Nigerian system itself is making the process of Name-Changing very very difficult highly stressful, even for people who are very willing to change their own names due to some crucial important reasons.
Drinokrane: Instagram celebrity Ismaila Mustapha alias Mompha has rejected reports he was named in an amended charge instituted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against an automobile dealer Sarumi Babafemi alias 606, Igbere TV reports.

Mr Babafemi had been arraigned alongside his companies; 606 Autos Limited; 606 Music Limited; and Splash Off Entertainment Limited, on five counts before the Federal High Court in Lagos.
The EFCC accused him of laundering a total of N207.1m between 2013 and 2018.
The anti-graft agency also accused Babafemi and his companies of concealing and disguising the origins of the funds he allegedly laundered for Mompha and others.

ebukajay184: Only Son, Two Others Hacked To Death As Cult Groups Clash In Delta (Photo)
Three persons were hacked to death by suspected cultists at Egbokodo-Itsekiri, Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, IgbereTV reports.
It was gathered that the incident happened on Wednesday night, January 27, after a bloody clash among different cult members.
One of the deceased has been identified as Tuoyo, the only son of a single mother.
Spokesperson of the State Police Command, Onome Onovwakpoyeya, who confirmed the incident, urged the public to provide timely useful information on activities of cultists and hoodlums in their vicinity in order to nip the killings in the board.
"The police are proactive, but the people need to feed us with timely info to arrest the trend." she added.
Meanwhile, the immediate past chairman of Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, Dr Michael Tidi, has condemned the senseless cult killings ongoing in the council area.
Tidi, who made this condemnation in a statement made available to newsmen in Warri on Thursday, in reaction to Wednesday killings, called on all community leadership and stakeholders to as a matter of urgency volunteer information to security agencies about the whereabouts of criminal elements in their communities with a view to apprehending them.
"This cult killings is getting too much. On Monday somebody was killed in Merogun. This evening one person was shot at Ekurede Itsekiri community. I was told he was the Secretary of the youth leadership of that community. Again, about forty minutes ago, three persons were gunned down at Egbokodo axis in Ubeji, in Warri South," he said.
“I want to call on the community leaders and all stakeholders to volunteer information to the security agencies about these criminals in their community. They should rid their communities of these bad eggs because the police and the army are not spirits. They need information to be able to do their work because they do not reside in these communities.
“The communities should not be too quick to condemn Government and law enforcement agents when things like this happen. They should set their priorities straight and help themselves by volunteering information to security agents.
“I also want all well meaning Waferians to come together and condemn these actions. Nobody should use the unavailability of jobs as a reason for committing these heinous crimes. Criminally should be condemned in its strongest terms.
“In fact, the government of today led by Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, has put up so many skills acquisition programmes for our youths. The amnesty programme I still going on which the youths can take advantage of to go to school. How many of these youths are taking advantage of the STEP and YAGEP programmes of the state Government.
“For instance, revenue committees are being set up by local governments every year. I just did mine before stepping aside briefly. How many of these youths came forward to take up these jobs?
“So no economic reasons should be advanced for these killings. Cultism is evil and it should be condemned by all, including our spiritual leaders. The church should not relent in preaching against this menace”
