Does anyone have a brand new blackberry curve 2 with all accessories at a decent prize for sale? Please let me know pronto. |
Just out of curiosity where the heck is the national cake that was to be baked on independence day? You know the one that was supposed to break the Guinness book of record's record for the largest cake in the world. The one that probably cost millions of Naira to make. ![]() |
This road should easily be a three or four lane road on either side. It's probably the road with the highest vehicular traffic in Nigeria. What exactly is the reason why this road is not being rehabilitated? Only God knows how many people have lost their life's on this road due just to the poor condition of the road. How can the people in power justify this wanton and preventable lost of life? Is it that the black man has no concern for anyone or anything apart from himself? This 50 year anniversary should really be a time for sober reflection. |
Hi guys, anyone know how to go about paying for a premium rapid share account here in Nigeria? |
Is it possible to pay for a rapidshare premium account here in Nigeria? |
The structure to privatise the generation and distribution of electricity in Nigeria should be laid on the ground now. Enough is enough. If it means we will be in darkness for a while so be it. Even without the PHCN strike we are constantly without light anyway. It's better we sacrifice now to get a better system later. If PHCN wants to go on strike now so be it. |
"Lagos State police spokesman, Mr. Frank Mba, who confirmed the report said: “What we have in the well is not water. What you see is the height of creativity in the criminal world. This is illegal bunkering in more criminalized manner. The syndicate pretends that it was producing furniture polish when it is siphoning fuel from oil pipeline." Tapping into a petrol pipeline is the "height of creativity in the criminal world" !?. I think a lot has to be done with the level of law enforcement training our police officers go through. |

It's obvious those schools were based in the North for strategic reasons. Unfortunately though military might does not translate to political power nowadays. |
Don't think it's the first cable-stayed bridge design in Nigeria. Think there was one designed for the Bonny river in Port Harcourt. |
Anyone having problems with mtn browsing on black berry today. Can't seem to connect or even send messages. |
texazzpete:Have no problem at all with terminology "ward" or "househelp". The real problem is how the person is being treated by his/her custodians. Many "wards" are still being abused in the homes they stay in. It's a pity that we don't have a system where an abused kid can make a report to a law enforcement officer. Knowing Nigeria such a complaint will probably not be taken seriously. |
I must express my deep gratitude to Becomerich. Nigeria is a difficult place to live in with all the problems - Phcn, Water, Roads. Whenever I feel bothered with all the stress in the country and need a good laugh, I come to Nairaland and search desperately for any new Becomerich topic or post. Becomerich no matter what anyone says carry on with your "articles". The satellites pictures are a nice touch as well. Your posts always brighten my day. |
Well the OP did not state the law was against underage housemaids. If that's the case it's a good idea. The implementation is gonna be an ass though. What happens to the small girl that comes from your village helps out at home and in turn gets sent to an average "city" school. Still better than being stuck in the village. Only problem is if the employer abuses the child. It's not an ideal situation but then again neither is Nigeria! |
Ha ha customs should monitor calibration at oil terminals? Customs must be licking their lips waiting for that to happen. |
Good leadership is of paramount importance. If an enabling environment is created people will act better. We are not all corrupt, decent people just get tired of fighting the system and cave in. I will rather just show my papers to a police man and move on. What do you now do if a police man is pestering you for "something for the weekend" and has wasted 30 mins of your time with spurious paper requests? People just get tired of trying to do the "right" thing. |
Will like to ask a question as well. Imagine a missionary pastor settles in Nigeria with his wife. They have a son that grows up in the Nigerian system - though tutored by his parents at home. He goes thru all the fighting with infectious diseases and stuff. Is it likely that if he takes an IQ test in the future he'll end up with a low score? Just a question. |
@SEFAGO Not quite sure where who said I.Q. tests were only conducted in english. It does not matter the language the test is conducted in however the questions may be written with a cultural and social bias that will make it easier for someone in the western world to deal with. Here's an example of an I.Q. test question: Consider the following two statements: all farmers who are also ranchers cannot come near town; and most of the ranchers who are also farmers cannot surf. Which of the following statements MUST be true? I wonder if you can see the cultural bias in this question. Excellent cognitive abilities may manifest in a person from any part of the world, how it manifests will depend on the culture of the area the person is and what he has been exposed to. Unless you are of course implying that a black man living in Africa must have a low I.Q. In that case you might want to pick up that argument with Wole Soyinka. I'm sure he will have some interesting views for you on the topic. ![]() |
The study is a bit silly. The so called "intelligence" being measured is what i will refer to as acquired intelligence. Most of it is due to exposure to social and environmental factors. Potentially an African is no less intelligent than an European. The European however appears to be more intelligent because he's more exposed than the average African. Perhaps the index should be called knowledge quotient K.Q. The test will then be subject to the part of the world you grew up in. |
Social factors probably play a bigger role in IQ development. Good health is just one of several factors. Will the chronically ill child of an English Lord develop a low IQ? |
Isn't it possible to browse on your laptop through your blackberry USB link. Using mtn BIS. Anybody? |
Hi everyone. Can anyone please tell me how (if it's possible) to tether a blackberry curve 8520 to a windows system. The blackberry is on the mtn BIS. Thanks |
Seems someone's trying her/his script writing skills here. Anyway well done you have encouraged people to discuss contentious issues in Nigeria. At this point it's ok if you (the writer) comes out to identify her/himself. After all some people may wish to congratulate you for a job well done. ![]() |
Young woman you are not a kid anymore. Make your decision and stick with it. How do you feel about the guy? Will you be happy marrying him? Those are key questions you should be asking yourself. If however you want to wait till you get someone your parents approve of then good luck with that. You should also know that those who love you like family members should be ready to gnash their teeth and support you in the decisions you make. That’s what true love is about; it’s not about threatening to disown you for not living according to their own standards. Does the latter attitude sound very mature or caring to you? Lastly don’t make a big issue out of the whole atheism stuff. Most of the time an “atheist” is simply saying he does not believe in any of the man made religious concepts of God. Nobody knows completely how human beings came to exist and he may just be in the group of “I don’t know” people (agnostics). Think about it, both Muslim and Christian persons may be offended if you say you don’t believe in God, do they believe in the same God? As long he is not disturbed by your own personal religious beliefs, why not leave him to his own beliefs? |
You may be using sex for a psychological "high". Why do you always feel the need to have sex? Even non-religious people do not feel the need to have casual sex all the time. Perhaps is time for some sessions with your local psychoanalyst? ![]() |
There anyone here interested in taking lessons in 3d modelling and animation, using 3d capabilities of AutoCad and 3d studio max. Just write under this topic. Will check back from time to time. Have used both software for about fifteen years. |
Ibime:Simple question, what does the constitution say about when the president does not hand in a letter prior to going on holiday or sick leave? Also how does not following the spirit of the law become an impeachable offence. |
Beaf:Sorry I don't think our positions are similar. A scientist may move close to an occultic person because he seeks a scientific explanation for something he may have seen the occultist do. A similar example would be seeking for the active medical substance in "dongoyaro" that cures malaria. The key part here is that the event must have been properly and acceptably observed first by a none biased person i.e. a doctor would have observed a couple of people with malaria chewing the dongoyaro plant and recovering soon after. Hence some "eye-witness" accounts of a cat turning into a human would not pass. What would pass would be the same process being repeated in front of a scientific crew where any chance of cheap visual trickery has been eliminated. Again I would urge you to read the ending part of my last post. I've copied it below for you. "Lastly you gotta remember that we were colonized by the English, Spanish, French etc in Africa. Do you honestly believe they would have witnessed animals turning into human beings, charms to repel bullets, money making charms and so on and simply ignored this "technology" and gone back to the painstaking scientific work they do. Or is that they did not witness any of this happenings in the decades they lived in Africa?" |
Beaf:First off, the fact that a practicing scientist is a member of some occultic group does not mean his findings are supernatural. Several professors in Nigerian Universities still believe in the supernatural and probably even acquire charms of some type or the other. That's the belief system they are used to and their acquired western education does not change their beliefs easily. This does not however mean their scientific findings are based on occultic principles. A common mistake made is to confuse the unknown with the supernatural. I may not be able to explain something now, that does not mean that happening cannot be explained, it simply means i don't have the knowledge to explain that happening now. If you are predisposed to supernatural interpretation of stuff you would easily see things with that perceptive. If a villager has never seen a plane before he would probably have some fantastic supernatural explanation on his first sighting of a plane. He might say the gods sent a metal bird shrieking through the skies, he would have "seen" this happening and would be totally convinced that he's right. He is however not right is he? This discourse is not about Western/African principles. It's about not just accepting mythology as truth without question. Vampires or Goblins are western myths that i would treat with the same attitude as cats turning into human beings. Lastly you gotta remember that we were colonized by the English, Spanish, French etc in Africa. Do you honestly believe they would have witnessed animals turning into human beings, charms to repel bullets, money making charms and so on and simply ignored this "technology" and gone back to the painstaking scientific work they do. Or is that they did not witness any of this happenings in the decades they lived in Africa? |
Afam:Mr Afam, i'll try to be as simple and straightforward as possible. The possibility of a cat or any other animal turning into a human being is nil, zero. You believe in such tales because you were probably brought up in an environment where such tales were popular. People may claim to have seen such things happen, that's highly subjective. A person predisposed to belief in supernatural stuff will always see such things even in the most mundane happenings. Of course you can claim I'm only saying this because I have never seen it happen. That's wrong because I've never seen a space shuttle launched but I still believe it's a vessel that can break the earth's gravitational pull. I believe i've seen enough proof in paper articles and tv documentaries to justify my belief. On the other hand I have never seen or read anything that could make me believe that a cat could turn human. And please someone simply saying he saw something happen does not mean it actually did. |
