Some chap has a playbook 32 gb with external 4g for about 100k. Is that a good deal? |
Hey techies gimme some advice please. ![]() |
Hi everyone, thinking of picking up a tablet and I'm not sure what will be a good buy in Nigeria. The ipad2 of course looks good but there is all the proprietary nonsense as well as the high cost. Also thinking of the blackberry playbook since I have a bb already that I can bridge with it. Problem with that not having 3g though, apparently must use wifi to download stuff. Lastly there is the samsung galaxy tab with the android os? Like the openness and versatility of that os. Of course there is the issue of available apps. Please experts tell me what you think before I go ahead. |
With the recent happenings in the banking industry does anyone know what the state of Intercontinental bank is? There are rumours of a take over by Access bank. What exactly is the banks condition? |
Does anyone have explicit instructions on how to set an ipad 2 - 3g to browse in the mtn network. I know you need an mtn microsim but there is hardly any information from them on how to configure the ipad 2 and choose a specific data plan. Does any one have experience in setting the ipad 2 up for browsing. Thanks. |
Anyone know if the starcomms izap is having problems in Ibadan. Haven't been able to browse all day. |
lucabraski:How very very sad. The replies I have read in this topic only testify again to the fact that we have a long way to go in Nigeria. Why has this country not moved forward? Well simply because people who are capable of going on the internet and posting messages still believe in witches and fairies, still believe some children are natural "witches", still believe the western world is more developed because they use their "witchcraft" for more positive stuff. Someone once referred to this state as being one of functional illiteracy. The person can read and write, appears to be well read, is capable of studying for scientific exams and passing in flying colours and still paradoxically believes that people with the right "jazz" can magically disappear from accident sites, or miraculously stop bullets from entering their bodies when shot at. Nigeria will move forward someday but it will take quite a while. Why? Well because the hardest thing to change is the way a man thinks, his cultural belief system. It will take several generations of quality education and exposure to get the average Nigerian to the stage where he stops assigning magical explanations to everything he is incapable of understanding. |
Sad situation. There are two sides to a coin though. Firstly the guy must be pretty messed up to be sleeping with a girl he has no long term plans for with no protection. How self destructive is that! Secondly how could the girl be okay with that situation even if she believed he loved her. That's like "okay I think guy loves me so I think I'm gonna have a baby for him, even though he hasn't discussed any plans of marriage with me and we haven't even talked about bringing up a child together". How self delusional is that! They need to both grow up and face reality. It seems they both were acting based on their own personal interests and immediate self gratification. However now another persons life has been brought into their selfish soap opera. If she can still abort the child she should think of it and not bring into the world a child that will know no love and fatherly care. |
Joseph Jon:First and foremost if you read the OP you'll see he is not saying women should not get married, he is saying women should not be desperate to get married. Next you need to realise how your comments above are based so much on your subjective reasoning. Due to your own background and upbringing and probably religion you believe a woman has somehow "failed" if she does not get married. Fine, that's your own view. Truth is there are many people throughout the world that don't think like that. There are many people in the world that choose to remain single, some marry and divorce over and over again, some live with partners and don't officially get married to them, some get married and choose not to have children (would love to hear your views on that!) and finally some believe its fine to be married to more than one woman. Bottom line to every man his own, you can never assume that your own views are the absolute truth and everyone must live according to this rules. Finally does your view about women looking for well to do men apply in developed countries as well (just trying to get you to broaden your views a bit cheers) |
J12:Matters very little how I would feel, but quite a lot how would they feel. If they choose to remain single and are happy with it good for them. If they preferred to be married but had not found the right person I would encourage them to get on with their lifes and not be too bothered. At the end of the day you can only control your own actions and feelings. You definitely can't get someone to love or marry you by force! |
Interesting post OP. Agree with you on some points, no one should marry out of desperation. On the other hand issues like this are tied in to happiness and what a person perceives will make him happy. In many societies in Africa there is the belief that you must be married by a certain age to be happy. There is no right or wrong as far as this is concerned. One man's meat is another's poison. In many well developed countries where its quite easy for both men and women to live happy fulfilled lifes while remaining single marriage is not considered a big deal and many couples live together without actually getting married. I personally don't think you have to be married to be fulfilled, though I wouldn't fault anyone for feeling that way. As far as women being wired in their DNA for certain things, I would think this apply more to the instinct for sex and procreation than marriage. Afterall it's possible to get this same things without being officially married. And please the fact that a woman has kids and is in a loving relationship with a man without being married to him does make her in anyway a slut. Just my views, cheers. |
It's very sad that things have to be this way in this country. It's obvious that the way to go is with pre-paid meters. Everyone knows that. The estimated billing system leaves room for all types of fraud. It's either that bills are inflated hugely to take advantage of perceived "wealthy" persons or some people are allowed to use electricity for years with no charges. There is an wide path that seems right to man i.e. plenty of "easy" money by doing wrong. The present government must be courageous enough to take the bull by the horns and fight this sad situation. Knowing what is right to do is one thing, having the moral fortitude to carry it out is another. |
@enyojo It will help your argument if you make a distinction between what is bad for you and what is sinful. Alcohol intake is potentially bad because for certain people its impossible for them to control their intake. But like I said before there are many others that can drink moderately for years. Religion probably frowns on alcohol intake primarily because it realizes that some people will inevitably end up abusing it. Now back to the point on what is bad for you and what is sinful. I wonder if you exercise regularly. If you don't you are probably like a large percentage of Nigerian women. Not exercising regularly is very bad for your health. Question I would like to ask you is that "is it also sinful not to exercise regularly?". I'm hope you get my point? Give it some thought. |
If you want to know how bad alcoholism is in Nigeria consider the fact that even two bottles of beer will put you over the legal limit for drinking and driving. Yet probably every drinker you know will have more than this in Nigeria - on a regular basis. Alcoholism is a massive problem in Nigeria and it goes largely untreated. @enyojo drinking does not necessarily progress in that order. If that was the case everyone that has ever had a drink will end up becoming an alcoholic. There are people that only drink socially all there lifes and others that drink moderately - one or two bottles - all the time. Unfortunately there are also people whose drinking capacity escalates alarmingly. |
Perhaps my favorite guy in the house of rep. It's a pity he was just a waste of public resources and money. Would be nice if we could convince him to take to the comedic stage like Ali Baba and co. I'm sure he'll make a good stand up comedian. |
babasoty:There is a manner of argument that just involves going round and round in circles till everyone gets bored with the topic and forgets it. So lets get down to the chase. Don't you think it's the government's responsibility to let us the citizens know where this money "set aside" for the SWF is for now. Especially since we don't have any time frame for when the laws backing the Fund will come into play. Which account is this money in and where will all interests accruing to it go for now? Forget the embezzlement issue lets just address this questions. Secondly seeing as the ECA has been severely depleted in the last few years from several billions of dollars would it be wrong to ask the government what exactly has been done with the money withdrawn from the account. The exact amounts that went to whatever parastatal or government body and for what. Please don't go back to the above "he said she said" arguments above and kindly say what your views are on the above questions. |
How much of the money misappropriated has been returned to the government's coffers. Many Nigerians I know would be glad to do a 10 year stint in jail to come out to that sort of money. As long as it looks like there is no punishment for fraud in high places in Nigeria the corruption will continue. |
"Nobody should rig for me" but it's ok to rig for others? The statement coming from the top should be that rigging by any parties will not be tolerated at all in the coming elections. That's sounds a lot more responsible. |
Yeh and snoop dogg has an Ifa shrine in his Jacuzzi! Just wasted five valuable minutes reading this. |
4llerbuntu:Not too sure what the central point of this post is. First question is this, have we ever had any President of the Court of Appeal that has been "promoted" to the supreme court? Why is he being intentionally moved from this position. Secondly you seem to be suggesting that the man may be abusing his position as in "what he has just achieved is bastardisation of the integrity and name of the court of appeal. Note that this is the same man parties in appeals at the guber stage in the last polls are accusing of heavy issues. i read some of them in the guardian this week and am afraid, sour grapes or not they did have a point. there has been an uproar even amongst the bar about inconsistencies in the decisions of the election tribunals." Now we need to be clear what we are talking about, if the man has in any abused his position the government has the right to take action on this. I'm sure the government knows the steps to take if the President of the Court of Appeal is abusing his position. The way to go about it is definitely not by "promoting" him out of his position. Lastly this comment "the man ought to face disciplinary panel for bringing the bench into disrepute. this offends all known decorum and only serves as ammunition for people to stand up tomorrow and question the integrity of the courts without basis.". I believe the man has every right to question what is being done to him. If you are in a position you would expect to retire in (as has been the case for all others) and are suddenly being booted out you have every reason to be offended. If we intend to be honest the government should come out and tell us if the man has "erred" in any way. If he has the government should go through the proper channels to deal with the situation. |
bisiaet:Have you actually read the posts above? Has it ever happened that a President of the Appeal court has been "promoted" to the supreme court. All signs point to the fact that the move was for political reasons i.e. because the man actually allowed the Appeal court to work properly. For some strange reason you ignore all this signs completely and speak as if this is just a case of some unimportant civil servant. Na wa o. |
“I don’t know the kind of luck that has befallen PDP in the Southwest. The first casualty was Oyo State where Ladoja was impeached, followed by Ekiti where Fayose, who was a very hardworking governor, was removed. We are yet to be told what Fayose stole that others have not stolen ten times. People who stole the nation dry are today walking free on the streets. Statements like the above show why we have a long way to go in this country. When a governor thinks its ok to say the above we have just started our journey in this country. |
Ha ha amusing retort "are you one?" You read everything I wrote and that's what you get out of it. I also don't support the death penalty for robbers, that must make me a gun totting criminal! Lets all try to learn by listening to contrary views to ours. |
Part of being an adult is knowing you can't control everything around you. It's perfectly fine to dislike the idea of gay sex but whether you like it or not gays will continue having sex. Even if they ain't having sex it doesn't stop gay relationships because some people will always be attracted to their own sex. My take is as long they are both consenting adults who cares? What harm do gays cause to the world? Are they the cause of wars, inflation or famine? I beg free them jare! |
"However it would be extremely naive and foolish for any faggott activist who goes around the society preaching abominable anti family doctrine not to expect extremely violent retribution from conservatively minded elements in that same society." That is the statement you made above. Read it again and see what it says. To summarize again if Mr. A. does not like Mr. B's lifestyle or utterances Mr. B should expect to get his head smashed in by Mr. A. (i.e. extremely violent retribution) p.s. Very similar argument is "Since she was wearing a micromini skirt to the club, she deserved to get raped." |
^^^^?? Summary of above statement "When you are unhappy with a person's way of life or utterances, it's ok to get sticks and stones and beat them to death!" Jeez |
Thanks @na2day. Looks like with this instructions i should be able to dual boot into either the winmo or the Android. Since i'm just installing the android on the sd card. The Android on this phone still has quite a few issues like no camera, etc though. |
The phone is the HTC touch HD T8282 running windows mobile 6.1 thanks. Also is it possible to upgrade to newer versions of the winmo rom? |
Have a HTC touch phone running windows mobile 6.1. Just wanna find out if anyone here has successfully ported one of the newer Android roms on this os. Also where would be a good site to download apps for windows mobile 6.1. Thanks. |
